This event is being curated and hosted entirely by the young people on our NewGen programme. We’ve asked them who they want to hear from, what they want to know and which conversations they think the industry should be having. Now they’re bringing those ideas to the Elevate community.

NewGen will be taking over the mic, inviting the people they want on stage and asking the questions they want answered. It’s an opportunity for the next generation entering our industry to hear from those already navigating it.

Expect a fresh perspective on the events industry. It’s going to be honest, curious and probably a little unpredictable.

We’d love you to get behind these young people. Come along, experience the evening they’ve created and help us celebrate our summer cohort as they graduate. Please register to join us.

There’s plenty to catch up on following our September Inspiration Session.

Zoe Tuffs and Nic Neal led a thought-provoking session on resilience, joined by Ally Owen and Peter Clamp. It was a valuable reminder that resilience can mean stopping, asking for help or changing direction, as well as learning from difficult experiences.

Peter’s advice on finding job opportunities gave us one of our favourite quotes of the evening: “If the door won’t open, climb through a window.” You can now watch or listen to the full session and download the notes and takeaways.

We’re also sharing Megan Brocklehurst’s inspiring open mic talk about how she managed to break into the events industry by making her own opportunities. Megan is part of our NewGen programme, she’s GREAT!

You’ll also find details of our final Inspiration Session of the year which will be programmed and hosted by the young people on our NewGen programme.

Building resilience for whatever comes next

As we’re all very aware, working in events means dealing with pressure, uncertainty and plenty of surprises. At last month’s Inspiration Session, we explored resilience beyond simply keeping going.

Our People and Culture Partners, Zoe Tuffs from Times Ten Coaching and People and Culture Strategy Consultant Nic Neal, were joined by Ally Owen, Founder of Brixton Finishing School and Event Producer Peter Clamp.

Through personal stories and practical advice, they looked at managing pressure, understanding ourselves better and dealing with rejection. They also discussed becoming anti-fragile: learning and growing through difficult experiences.

Sometimes resilience means stopping, asking for help or changing direction. It’s about recognising when perseverance has become stubbornness and giving yourself permission to do something different.

This talk was introduced by Dhruvi Hirani who is part of our NewGen programme.

We turn these talks into a podcast so those who are unable to join in person don’t miss out. You can find links to the podcast, Spotify, Apple and YouTube with captions, together with notes and takeaways from the session on our website HERE.

Create your own opportunity: a five minute talk by Megan Brocklehurst from Elevate NewGen

This recording is part of our open mic series of five-minute talks that take place at the end of our inspiration sessions. Our speaker is Megan Brocklehurst, Project Coordinator at the global production agency BRYANT and is part of our NewGen programme here at Elevate.

Megan gave an inspiring talk about creating your own opportunities, sharing her journey into the events industry and how putting herself out there ultimately led to no fewer than four job offers! She spoke about the importance of persistence, curiosity and making yourself memorable, and how she learned to turn rejection into momentum.

As Megan puts it: “Don’t wait for permission. Sometimes the opportunity you’re waiting for is the one you have to create for yourself.”

Introducing Megan is fellow NewGenner Joshua Engele.

You can find links to this talk on Spotify, Apple and YouTube with captions, together with notes and takeaways from the session on our website HERE.

The Elevate ‘Just One Thing… podcast’ with Ally Owen from Brixton Finishing School

Ally Owen was one of our guests on the Elevate Just One Thing... podcast. In this podcast we invite industry leaders to write a letter to their younger self and consider what wise advice they would give themselves now if they only could. Our discussion is based on this letter.

Ally is an inclusion activist, digital leader and founder of the award winning Social Enterprise Brixton Finishing School, an accelerator that finds, trains and places ‘under-represented’ talent into roles within the Media, Creative and Digital Industries.

Ally is on a mission to disrupt the elite media and advertising industry so it includes all voices and gives them the opportunity to thrive. She says talent is distributed equally but opportunities are not. She’s a force of nature and force for change and we loved talking to her.

The full line up for Tuesday’s Inspiration Session ‘Supercharge your creative thinking’

Last Tuesday night, we hosted our July Inspiration Session at White Rabbit Studios - Shoreditch, our home for 2026, with a jam-packed session all about how to supercharge your creativity, led by the brilliant Emma Gardner, Executive Design Director at Identity and our training partner Matt Bolton-Alarcón of Special Sauce Training.

Helping unpack this session’s theme were our expert panel: PJ Bailey, Senior Events Manager, Events & Experiences, EMEA at Google, Kate O’Connor, Strategic Creative Director at Identity and Trini-Maria Katakwe, Spatial Designer and Cultural Strategist.

We were given practical tools, fresh thinking and plenty of creative energy!

This session reminded us that we’re ALL creative. Creativity isn’t something you either have or you don’t, but a skill we can all build by being curious, asking better questions, challenging assumptions and looking at problems differently.

We turn these talks into a podcast so those who are unable to join in person don’t miss out. You can find links to the podcast, Spotify, Apple and YouTube with captions, together with notes and takeaways from the session on our website HERE.

My time at Cannes Lions with Amplify H.E.R: a talk by Shamsa Kiwanuka from Elevate NewGen

This recording is part of our open mic series of five-minute talks that take place at the end of our inspiration sessions. Our speaker is Shamsa Kiwanuka who is a creative producer working across music, theatre and live events and is part of our NewGen programme here at Elevate.

In this talk, Shamza shares her experience of attending Cannes Lions this year and what happened when she said yes to an opportunity.

Shamza says possibility is her greatest asset. Her strength is seeing what could be, rather than simply what already exists.

Introducing Shamsa is fellow NewGenner Tee Balogun.

She ended with a series of affirmations that brought the whole room to life:
I am saying yes to opportunity.
I am representing and inspiring.
I am overwhelmed and excited.
I am creative because I am.
I am meant to be here.
I am unlimited.

Own your growth: The career levers that move you forward

Last month we hosted our first Inspiration Session of the year. Specially curated by the Elevate team, these sessions are a real highlight of the Elevate experience, giving our community valuable tools, resources, inspiration and connection.

Career growth is hard. It’s consistently one of the biggest challenges raised by the Elevate community. Not because people lack ambition, talent or drive. Quite the opposite. People are already working ridiculously hard. The challenge is that growth rarely follows a neat, predictable path.

In this talk Zoe Tuffs from Times Ten Coaching and people and culture consultant Nic Neal explored how, even when growth feels outside of our control, there is still plenty we can own to move closer to our goals, like climbing through the window if the door won’t open!

The session was brought to life by the advice and industry stories shared by Jen Bonassera, Senior Events Director at Condé Nast, Sarah Godden, Head of Events at Wonderland Agency and Mwathi Muriu-Gakonga, Founder, Freelancer, Student and member of the Elevate NewGen leadership team.

We turn these talks into a podcast so those who are unable to join in person don’t miss out. You can find links to the podcast, Spotify, Apple and YouTube with captions, together with notes and takeaways from the session on our website HERE.

Say yes before you feel ready: a talk by Kelly Taws

As part of our Open Mic series of five-minute talks, recorded live at the end of our Inspiration Sessions, Kelly Taws, founder of Athena Event Solutions, gave a fantastic talk entitled ‘Saying Yes Before You Feel Ready’.

She explained that when an opportunity comes your way, you should not always wait until you feel ready, because you might never be.

Say YES if it is exciting but scary.
Say YES if you would rather say no and it makes you feel sick.
Say YES if you think it will help you grow.
Say YES if you think it will help someone else grow as well.

As Kelly puts it: “Sometimes the best thing you can do is say YES, show up and trust that your confidence will catch up with you.”

How learning to ride a Vespa taught Jen Bonassera, Senior Events Director at Condé Nast to take up more space

When Jen Bonassera joined us on stage as part of our panel of speakers at last month’s Inspiration Session, she told us a story about learning to ride her Vespa and how she learnt to take up more space. Her husband would challenge her: “Drive in the middle of the road and honk the damn horn!” She explained this is a metaphor for life. You need to take up more space. You’re here. Own it!

Jen appeared on our ‘Elevate - Just One Thing’ podcast when she was Global Events Director at Charlotte Tilbury and this was the piece of advice she considered a game changer for getting where you want to go.

You can read Jen’s letter to her younger self, as well as find links to her interview, HERE. There are 20 episodes in the series to dig into.

A new podcast about feeling the fear and doing it anyway

British-American journalist, broadcaster and author Katty Kay has just launched a new podcast from Gary Lineker’s Goalhanger called Doing It Anyway. Across six weekly episodes, Katty will explore how confidence shapes the way we live, work and make choices, with a particular focus on women’s experiences.

Combining data, psychology and real-life stories, the series will look at how we can build confidence and change the way we approach opportunity, ambition and risk. Guests include organisational psychologist and author Adam Grant, Mika Brzezinski, founder of the Know Your Value movement and financier and former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci.

The entry deadline for the M&IT Elevate Award has been extended until Friday. We want this new award to set a new benchmark for people-first leadership in events and inspire others to follow suit. If your organisation is building that kind of culture, we want to hear your story.

We’re also sharing more details about our community of mums in events. This unique support network is growing fast.

And finally, we have details of our first Inspiration Session of the year. These events were a highlight of last year’s programme. We’ve secured White Rabbit Studios from 5.00pm specifically so mentors and mentees can meet before the event starts, with plenty of space to sit and talk. Lots of you did this last year, so please use this opportunity to get a mentoring session under your belt. The evening will begin properly at 6.30pm with drinks, followed by an inspirational talk from Zoe Tuffs and Nic Neal.

Inspired, informed and empowered in Sydney

Last week our Elevate ANZ community kicked-off their 2026 mentoring programme with a wonderful event in Sydney. 30 event professionals from across the city came together for an evening evening of connection and genuine excitement for our growing Elevate ANZ community. Our project lead, Chloe Woodhouse from Curious Nation, was joined by Mike Linford from Asembl who will be setting up our Melbourne Hub.

To find out more about Elevate ANZ or to join our growing community down under, please connect with Chloe (Elevate Sydney and ANZ region) and Mike (Elevate Melbourne).

Get ready for our first Inspiration Session of 2026 with Zoe Tuffs and Nic Neal

Our People and Culture Partners, Zoe Tuffs and Nic Neal, will be hosting our first live Inspiration Session of 2026 on Tuesday 9th June at White Rabbit Studios. We’re putting the finishing touches to the details of their talk and will let you know in our next Substack.

In the meantime get your tickets HERE.

To give you taste of Zoe and Nic in action you can listen to the talk they gave last year titled Unlock Your Confidence Code: Decode and own the confidence that fuels your career, the session offered powerful techniques. Elevate Motherhood Edition: a community for mums in events

The Elevate Motherhood Edition is a support group for mothers, mums-to-be and anyone in the events industry thinking about parenthood in the future.

Launched in 2025 by Elevate mentors, mums and event professionals Faye Alexander and Holly Quinn-Kumar, it was created to help people stay connected during pregnancy, maternity leave and the return to work.

Since launching, the initiative has grown into a community of more than 80 mums, offering support, advice and connection across the events industry through dedicated WhatsApp groups, in-person meet-ups and regular virtual meet-ups.

This time last week we were welcoming our 2026 mentors and mentees to our London kick-off at the stunning White Rabbit Studios in Shoreditch.

The event marked the start of our 11th year and WHAT a night it was! Despite the tube strike, you REALLY showed up, over 300 of you in fact and the atmosphere was absolutely electric!

We were excited to welcome a fantastic mix of new faces and returning mentors. With 954 Elevaters joining us this year, the energy in the room was something very special.

Our kick-off was designed to give our 2026 mentors and mentees an early taste of what Elevate is all about: helping people feel informed, inspired, empowered and connected from the very start. And that’s exactly what happened on the night. Here’s just some of the feedback we’ve had…

“A powerful reminder of what our industry can be at its best and why we need more of this.”

“Demonstrating inclusion in action, nobody in that room could feel lonely.”

“A group full of energy and optimism, exactly what’s needed to help lead the industry forwards while supporting new talent and each other.”

“A real sense of community that's hard to articulate but impossible to miss.”

“I left feeling genuinely connected. What an incredibly, inspiring evening.”

“So much energy in the room and amazing conversations taking place!”

A HUGE thank you to everyone who joined us last week and to all those who continue to help make Elevate such a powerful and impactful programme.

Max, Mel and Pete

P.S. Please give our latest LinkedIn post some Elevate love.
