Welcome to the Spooky Season Finale here at Feats N’ Faults. We took a horrifying journey through the black-and-white world of the universal monster, but today you all made your voices heard and chose to analyze a modern monster. Today we are covering Michael Myers from the Halloween franchise along with Lorie Strode and the rest of Myers’ prey.

The Halloween franchise, like many slasher movies, has been rebooted many times, with different timelines and characters in each. For this article, we’ll follow the Halloween 2018 timeline, which includes the original plus the following trilogy: Halloween Ends and Halloween Kills. With four films in total, I can not wait to see how the creator of the Slasher genre scores with our point system.

Let’s Get Started!

10th Place, Tommy: -3 FN’F Score (1978-2021) 2 Movies

Tommy Tommy Tommy. This is the original kid from the 1978 film that Laurie babysat. He did nothing in the original because he was a child, but when he showed back up in Halloween Kills, I assumed they had something cool planned for him. Instead, he is a menace to his community and achieves nothing. His contribution to this film is the worst part of the series.

He is introduced as one of the survivors of Myers and plans to hunt him down. He does eventually find Myers, but before that he instigated a riot in a hospital and caused a poor, mentally ill man to jump to his death. He just starts chasing and yelling at a man that he does not even see and causes an uproar where people got hurt. Oh, but when he finds Myers, he kicked some butt, right? Wrong; he got stabbed immediately and died. What a bum. I didn’t think I would find a character to compete for the worst of the worst, but here we are.

9th Place, Frank: -1 FN’F Score (2018-2022) 3 Movies

Guess what, Tommy wasn’t the only character in the negatives. Frank was introduced as a deputy who was present during the original film. However, instead of making him a survivor, they made him a complete failure who shot his partner and stopped Loomis from killing Myers. They made him out to be the bad guy, and that was devastating for his score. He knocked Myers out with his car, but he couldn’t finish the job. Another disappointing character.

8th Place, Cameron: 0 FN’F Score (2018-2021) 2 Movies

I cannot believe we are three characters in and still not in positive territory! Here comes Douchey McDoucherson, the man with a thousand excuses. This guy was actively cheating on Allyson and then told her she was seeing things, and then threw her phone into pudding. What a villain! He did save Frank from bleeding out, but nothing else. The only positive was his death scene. What a fun kill! Way to go, Myers. Feats N’ Faults approved.

7th Place, Karen Strode: 1 FN’F Score (2018-2021) 2 Movies

Karen is Laurie’s daughter who grew up dealing with the trauma that her mother experienced. Even though Laurie had the best intentions, this lifestyle led CYS to take her. It was never clear what age Karen was or who she lived with after, but it is clear she sought help and went through a lot of therapy to come to terms with this trauma. Unfortunately, this is the Halloween universe, and Laurie was right. While Michael Myers was not hunting this family down, fate kept putting them in his path.

Karen stopped Myers on two separate occasions but died in the most idiotic way I have ever seen. Ok, from her point of view, she lured Myers into a trap and watched people beat him up. But listen, he survived multiple car crashes, being shot three times, and a burning building. Why would you assume a couple of stabs would put him down? That said, she walked back into Myers’ childhood home, which we have established is always his true destination. Then she walked into a dark room with no lights to stand in the exact spot that Myers is searching for and has killed at before. Oh no, you mean this was a bad idea? Walk into an active crime scene alone, to a spot where a Myers encounter is almost guaranteed? Who would have guessed!?

6th Place, Dr. Sartain: 1 FN’F Score (2021) 1 Movie

Pshh, this Doc’s got nothing on Loomis. Dr. Sartain is the anti-Loomis and just wants to see Michael kill. He stabs a cop and frees Michael Myers. Then he gets killed. Not much to say.

5th Place, Allyson Nelson: 1 FN’F Score (2018-2022) 3 Movies

Allyson is another big disappointment in terms of her FN’F score. She was in three movies, but I am starting to learn that slashers focus purely on the villain. This is the first one I have ever scored with our system, and the Final Girls just survive and don’t do much on screen. Three movies with only one score is pitiful. But hey, at least she saved her grandmother from being strangled by Michael.

4th Place, Dr. Loomis: 1 FN’F Score (1978) 1 Movie

Wow, we are seven characters in, and we still haven’t breached single-point territory! Dr. Loomis was Michael Myers’ doctor and tried to warn everyone. If the police had listened to him, the town wouldn’t have gone through what it did. Unfortunately, he was not equipped or able to stop Michael and prevent the Babysitter Murders.

3rd Place, Laurie Strode: 4 FN’F Score (1978-2022) 4 Movies

Laurie is much lower than I expected, but after reflecting on the movies, it makes sense. She doesn’t actually achieve much in this movie. She is our perspective in this world and Michael Myers’s prey. Unfortunately, that means she doesn’t get many chances to score points. In the first film, she was in the negatives and had to crawl herself back into the positives. She may have become a badass in the sequel trilogy, but she doesn’t reach her goal until the third film and does very little in between. While I wish she’d scored higher, FN’F is unbiased, and the points land where they land.

2nd Place, Corey Cunningham: 8 FN’F Score (2022) 1 Movie

Jesus, this prick is in second place! Corey had only one movie and was set up as Michael Myers’ protégé before Michael got what he needed and still ended up killing him. Oops, spoilers. This scarecrow did kill a good number of people. His most iconic scene was when he killed his bullies in the junkyard. That blowtorch scene is brutal, and his obsession with Allyson is creepy, but his reign of terror was short-lived. The town turned him into a monster, but the real monster put him down.

1st Place, Michael Myers: 45 FN’F Score (1978-2022) 4 Movies

We have finally reached the modern-day monster, Michael Myers. We spent so much time in the depths of classic creatures that you all wanted a taste of the modern, and you voted to see Halloween covered for our community finale! I finally see why you all voted for him; his score is the first impressive one in the series. Michael scored a respectable 45 FN’F Score with zero faults to his name! To put that into perspective, he tied with an intergalactic warrior in Sendak from Voltron. He also scored 1 point higher than Loki (Prime) from the MCU sacred timeline (written before Doomsday) and Arya Stark from Game of Thrones. Pretty good company to keep; I wonder how this Evil would compare The Evil from Evil Dead? Guess we have an option for next year’s Halloween special!

Michael Myers is a pure killing machine. He has no motivation, no care, and never slows down. He is not fast, but he is relentless and precise. This is what makes him so scary. This pure bloodlust is uncorrupted and pure. He does not care who or why; he just wants to kill. As he got older, he became more artistic in his craft, posing his victims to express himself. No words needed. Myers never speaks in this timeline, and that’s how we handle him.

While there are many Halloween movies, we decided to cover the 2018 timeline. This timeline has two of my favorite movies from the franchise and my least favorite. We will get into that in the review, but man, is Halloween Kills a stinker. However, I think the original and Halloween 2018 are the best appearances of Myers. In these films, Myers turns anything into a weapon, with knives being his favorite. He lurks around the city and kills whomever he has the chance to. Through this killing spree, Michael earned his most feats. He really is something to fear, and I am interested to see if he ends up in the Faction of Faults at the end of the year.

Halloween: 2018 Timeline ?/10

Thank you so much for joining us for our 3rd Spooky Season Halloween Special! This is my favorite time of year, and I appreciate all of your engagement, voting, and comments! It was super fun exploring the golden age of monsters and ending it with our own modern creation. While the Universal Monster disappointed me a bit with their scores, Myers made up for it in the end. What a wonderful way to finish.

I will see you all next week for our normal Feats N’ Faults schedule. Tune in Thursday and don’t forget to subscribe to stay up to date on all your favorite characters and properties. I hope you have a candy-filled week!

I can’t believe we are at the end of our Universal journey for this year’s Spooky Season. It was a blast covering The Wolf Man, Frankenstein, and The Creature, but now it is time to cover the Prince of Darkness himself, Count Dracula. Going in, I assumed Dracula would be the highest-scoring “Monster” even without seeing any of his films. When I think of Dracula, I imagine a creature draining people of blood every night and keeping the town under his freezing thumb. These movies were slower than I expected, but I enjoyed the quiet ambiance and the threatening aura Dracula exudes.

We won't just be covering Dracula today. We will also be following his familiars, bride, daughter, and even Von Helsing. Let’s get into it and figure out once and for all who the highest-achieving Universal Monster is.

Let’s Get Started!

Share

5th Place, Kay Caldwell: 3 FN’F Score (1943) 1 Movie

Kay is the primary antagonist/protagonist of the most confusingly titled Dracula movie, “Son of Dracula.” There is no “Son” in this movie, no mention of wanting kids, not even a scheme or rumor. I have no idea why it is called this. Anyway, Kay decided to seduce Dracula, in a twist on the formula, to gain eternal life and then kill the Count. She did this to share that immortality with her fiancée without his knowledge. Does he end up wanting this curse? Absolutely not! Unfortunately, he has no choice, as this woman now has all the power and will turn him into a vampire whether he wants to or not. Unfortunately for her, this backfires as the husband breaks the curse and turns Dracula into a pile of bones. She would have gotten away with it too, if not for that meddling fiancée.

4th Place, Prof. Von Helsing: 3 FN’F Score (1931-1936) 2 Movies

I’m not sure why, but I was shocked to see Von Helsing. I know he is an iconic vampire hunter, but I never pictured him as a professor. Instead of a vampire hunter, he is more of a consultant in these films. He is the most knowledgeable on the subject and can resist Dracula’s hypnotism, but he does not fight. He beats Dracula because, at dawn, Dracula went back to sleep in his coffin. While he is lying there defenseless, Helsing impales him in the heart and traps him in that coffin.

Unfortunately, in the second movie, he mostly tries to convince the town that he is not a murderer and that vampires are real. He should have finished the job or really fought to keep Dracula where he was. He is a lot more compliant than I imagined. A bit of a lackluster beginning for this iconic archetype.

3rd Place, Renfield: 4 FN’F Score (1931) 1 Movie

I love the transformation of Renfield. He starts as a kind of dorky man with huge ambitions to be a sales agent, then becomes an insane familiar. The acting is fantastic; with just one look, you can tell he's changed. I love the scene when they open the ship, and he is just standing there waiting for them with a maniacal grin. I wonder if this influenced Mark Hamill’s Joker. I notice very similar aspects in both. The laugh itself is pretty similar. The maniacal, low-toned, wheezing chuckle is very reminiscent of how the Joker starts his laugh.

As for feats, this man became an expert at escaping. He somehow escaped his cell four different times, no matter how much they tried to stop him. I’d love to see how.

2nd Place, Countess Zaleska: 4 FN’F Score (1936) 1 Movie

Second, we have the heir to the throne, Countess Zaleska, aka the daughter of Dracula. I think Dracula’s daughter is my favorite from the original trilogy. It is an obvious take on LGBTQ+ issues through a 1930s lens. Because of this early view, they portray her attraction to women as a curse that needs to be lifted so she can be normal. This is masked by her urges as a vampire, but in reality it is her sexual desires that bother her the most.

She is the most sympathetic vampire in the series, and I just wanted to hug her and give her a pep talk the entire film. Unfortunately, in her quest to be “normal,” she tries to force a man to live with her for eternity but ends up getting shot by her familiar, who is jealous that he is not being turned into a vampire. The poor thing.

1st Place, Count Dracula: 27 FN’F Score (1931-1948) 6 Movies

Dracula is the monster whose grubby fangs have seeped into every aspect of our culture. Much like Frankenstein, you can see his depiction in all forms of media for all ages. From cartoons to a Robert Eggers movie, this leech has been around our entire lives and will outlive us all.

In 1931, the Universal Monsters Universe began with Frankenstein and Dracula. These two carried the franchise and helped to create this genre of tortured creature films. Going in, I was expecting a lot from Dracula, but in the end I was disappointed. His films didn’t hit me as much as The Creature, Frankenstein, or even The Wolf Man. In his trilogy, the one I enjoyed the most, he wasn’t in. The original was engaging, and the soundtrack's eerie quiet created a unique, suspenseful experience, but the horror was lackluster. When someone is stopped by the symbol of a cross that everyone at the time carried, it destroys the suspense. This single weakness, along with his limited appearances in his own trilogy, didn’t help his FN’F Score.

Dracula’s main feats surround what he needs to do to survive. He hypnotizes and drains those unfortunate souls who cross his path. His most impressive and eerie feat was draining the entire crew of his ship, creating a floating coffin as he came to London. In the crossover movies, he also revived The Monster on multiple occasions. I would say these creatures stick together, but the last time we canonically see Dracula, the Wolf Man tackles him, launches him into the ocean, and he’s never seen again.

It’s time to add a shock to the system and follow the original monster and father of science fiction, Frankenstein, and The Monster. Watching these, I was surprised to learn there were multiple Dr. Frankensteins and that they all originated from the same bloodline. The Monster is more of a curse to this family than to the world. Plus, with multiple doctors, we have multiple assistants and some surprising scores. I can not wait to see how all these scores shake out. Who is the king of the classic monster movies, and why are they all so dang cozy?!

Let’s Get Started!

Share

8th Place, Fritz: -3 FN’F Score (1931) 1 Movie

Fritz was Dr. Frankenstein’s original assistant, but he was by far the worst in the series. He was straight-up dumb and made the worst decisions possible. This man achieved nothing in his life, and as an assistant, he was the worst at following instructions. His first offense was his task of stealing a magnificent brain from a college. Yet the dude got scared and dropped the brain. Does he come back empty-handed? Nope, he grabs the murderer’s brain that was told to us to be defective. Oh, but he told Frankenstein all about this defective brain tho right? Nope! Hence, the origin of the Monster is because of a dense assistant. Can you imagine if he got the right brain? The Monster might have been able to talk and reason. We see this happen later in the series. This one act destroyed the name of Frankenstein and created a monster that would know only confusion and suffering.

His other two faults came from not listening. It was so frustrating! He was told to get the fire away from the Monster, but he kept swinging it at him even when the Monster was running away! No wonder he went berserk and needed to be chained up. Once he was in a cell, Fritz just left him alone, right? NO! What do I mean, no? I mean he went in and started whipping him. No reason, just torture. The Doctor then told him to stop and leave, but he didn’t, and then he got strangled to death. Serves the dude right!

7th Place, The Bride: 0 FN’F Score (1935) 1 Movie

The Bride was my biggest disappointment. She is so iconic, but she has maybe five minutes of screen time. She screams and dies. That is it! What a bummer for an iconic design. Guess we found the lowest-scoring Universal Monster.

6th Place, Ludwig Frankenstein: 1 FN’F Score (1942) 1 Movie

Ludwig is Dr. Frankenstein’s youngest son and the third Doctor of that name we are introduced to. He is an esteemed brain surgeon and was the first to transplant a brain between living human hosts. Because of this success, Igor sought him out to help fix his friend, “The Monster.” Was Ludwig a good doctor? Yes, I believe he was, because he was the only Frankenstein who wasn’t corrupted by lust for power or a desire to become a god, and he wanted to fix The Monster to make him happy. Too bad his colleague had other plans and switched the brains, so Igor controlled the Monster.

His one fault was his awful directions to his daughter. He saw The Monster behind her and told her to run back. Which direction is back? It is towards the Monster. Oh, well, there must have been something between him and his daughter that would have stopped her from running away? Nope. Actually, the Doctor was standing in the doorway of a lab that could be locked. So instead of saving his daughter, he sent her into the arms of the Monster, then locked himself safely in his lab. What a maroon.

5th Place, Wolf Frankenstein: 3 FN’F Score (1939) 1 Movie

Wolf Von Frankenstein is the 1st son we are introduced to. He inherits the house and decides to move in and make the most of it. But like his father, he finds the Monster and gets corrupted by his scientific pursuit to revive him. Every villager and the police chief warn him, but he cannot help himself. In the end, the Monster decides to kill Wolf’s son to show him what pain is, but the Doctor swings in like Indiana Jones and kicks the Monster into boiling sulfur. Afterward, he hightailed it out of there, gave the estate back to the town, and was never seen again.

4th Place, Dr. Pretorius: 6 FN’F Score (1939) 1 Movie

Dr. Pretorius was obsessed with creating human life. In fact, he did! He achieved something I find even more impressive: he created human bodies, personalities, and identities. However, they stopped growing at about 4 inches tall. That is still fascinating! Yet he wanted to grow a full-sized human and sought Frankenstein’s help to achieve this goal. He was responsible for the Bride but was killed by the Monster when the Monster demolished a castle on top of him.

3rd Place, Dr. Frankenstein: 6 FN’F Score (1931) 1 Movie

We have the original Dr. Frankenstein in 3rd place. I guess the Monster was able to surpass the creator. Frankenstein’s feats are all you’d expect. He created a body and life twice and caught the Monster. I could have almost guessed all these feats before I watched them. I wish I had more to say, but this character has been parodied, spoofed, and referenced a million times, and everyone knows him. He is disturbed, obsessed with his work, and carries a darkness he released upon the world. Man cannot be god, no matter how hard he may try.

2nd Place, Igor: 10 FN’F Score (1939-1942) 2 Movies

I waited for Igor throughout this entire series. I thought he would show up in the first film because he’s so iconic. Igor has seeped into our zeitgeist, but he didn’t appear until the third and fourth films. Watching them made me realize these films are what others have parodied, especially in films like Young Frankenstein.

Bela Lugosi is iconic in this role and just can not die! First off, he was found guilty and hanged by the town, but even with his neck visibly snapped and disconnected from his skull, he survived. Then Wolf Von Frankenstein shoots him point-blank with seven shots, and while he got knocked out, Igor got up and ran away as good as new. What a fascinating biology or healing factor this man must have. He is a Universal Monster in his own right! Igor has zero faults and held his own against other iconic creatures of the night. A lot of his feats come from his survivability and his revenge against the six men who condemned him to death. His most impressive act was tricking the doctor into putting his brain into The Monster! This effectively killed The Monster unceremoniously and gave Igor a stronger, indestructible body! Unfortunately, the blood type did not mix well with his brain, and he died without being able to rule the world as he planned to do. Just think of how much he could have accomplished if his blood type did match.

1st Place, The Monster: 29 FN’F Score (1931-1948) 8 Movies

I would venture to say that The Monster is one of, if not the most iconic monsters in American cinematic history. Sure, we have newer monsters like the Xenomorph, Pennywise, or King Kong, but The Monster is a creature that everyone knows, no matter the age. We see versions of him in horror movies from Guillermo del Toro, Animated films like Hotel Transylvania, and even cereal boxes with Franken-Berry. You can't escape Mary Shelley’s legacy.

Mary Shelley deserves all the credit here. It really urked me that the original 1931 film credited her as “Mrs. Percy B. Shelley.” What the hell, dude! Man, times were, and still are, rough for women. She is her own independent author, and she doesn’t need to be credited with no man’s name!

The Monster surprised me with his Feats. I am not going to lie, I thought he would have at least scored in the forties going into this. He was in 8 films, but I should have accounted for the slower pace and shorter runtimes. He still scored a 29 FN’F Score and beat out other characters like The Trickster from Doctor Who and Doctor Octopus from Marvel. The Monster’s favorite method of earning points was strangling people. Man, did this guy like to crush the spine at the back of your neck or crush your head like a watermelon. He really just wanted a friend, but the village he was in was not willing to give him a single second. He was born into violence, and every friend he ever made either died or tried to use him. What a lonely existence for the titular and iconic Monster.

Yay!!! I love spooky season, and what better way to celebrate it than sitting down with your candy pail and watching some black-and-white monster flicks. Today we are covering The Wolf Man movies and the crossover events that happened in the late forties. I’ve never watched these movies, so I was not sure what I was getting myself into. I’ve always wanted to analyze these iconic monsters, and I’m so excited to share my findings with all of you!

Today we'll cover not one but two werewolves. There was another Universal werewolf movie, Werewolf of London, that premiered in 1935, six years before Lon Chaney graced us with his now-iconic portrayal of the tortured creature. We will be covering both of these creatures, as well as the Mad Doctor’s and their assistant, who tried to cure the beast before becoming consumed by their lust for power.

Let’s Get Started!

Share Feats N' Faults

5th Place, Dr. Edelman: 2 FN’F Score (1945) 1 Movie

Our first Mad Doctor is Dr. Edelman. Dracula sought him out to try to cure the most powerful vampire. In the end, I believe it was a plot to drain and turn his assistant, but the Doctor thought he could do it. Later, Mr. Talbot (the Wolf Man) showed up to try to be cured again. This time he saw some success! It is the first and only time anything stopped the Wolf Man from transforming under a full moon. It was short-lived, but it did help for at least one moon cycle. Besides this feat, he also revived Frankenstein’s Monster. Yeah, listen, all of these guys show up in the last couple of movies. It was truly the first shared universe, so Marvel owes it to these guys.

In the end, Dr. Edelman had his blood contaminated with Dracula’s and turned into this weird, corrupted soul. He was not quite a vampire and not quite a werewolf. It was more of a Jekyll and Hyde type of transformation. He also earned one fault, which was crazy. A groundskeeper saw him. So he jumped into his wagon. Instead of killing this man before he made it to town, he taunted him and told him what he was going to do. Then he waited for him to reach town, when he knew that was what the man was trying to do, and then killed him in the city center. Everyone saw immediately, and he gave himself up with irrefutable proof. Not very slick if you ask me.

4th Place, Dr. Niemann: 5 FN’F Score (1944) 1 Movie

Boris Karloff plays Dr. Niemann, who also played the original Frankenstein’s Monster. I guess he didn’t feel like donning the iconic makeup for this film, even though the Monster does show up. Instead, Karloff put on a lab coat and played the Mad Doctor. The film starts with him and his partner in jail when lightning strikes, allowing them to escape. How lightning can cut through multiple floors of solid stone, I will never know, but nonetheless, that’s how they escape. From there, he took over a traveling curiosity show which happened to have Dracula’s coffin and body. From there, the Doctor began to revive every iconic creature from this universe before he tried to cure the Wolf Man. Unfortunately, the Wolf Man got tired of waiting, his assistant got a little jealous, and all hell broke loose. The Doctor didn’t necessarily deserve the blame, but he really should have started with the Wolf Man, and everything might have worked out.

3rd Place, Daniel / Hunchback: 7 FN’F Score (1944) 1 Movie

The Hunchback is where I first noticed a theme across the Universal Monsters. They didn’t make them horrifying; instead, they portrayed them as victims and sympathetic. The Creature from the Black Lagoon wanted to go home; the Wolf Man wanted to be cured; the Monster wanted friends and to be understood; and poor Daniel just wanted to feel loved. His hump is not even that bad. What is really sad is that his master didn’t even try to surgically remove the hump, even though he could somehow expand the Wolf Man’s skull. He is more than capable but never wanted to lose his muscle. And boy, did this muscle muscle. He killed multiple men, saved a woman from being beaten to death, and revived the Wolf Man from his icy prison. In the end, when the Brawl between all the monsters breaks out, the Monster picks Daniel up and throws him out a window to his death. Not a very ceremonial end to the heart of the film.

2nd Place, Werewolf of London: 11 FN’F Score (1935) 1 Movie

Here is the earliest form of werewolf we cover in the Universal Universe. In London, a botanist sets out on an expedition through Tibet to find a rare flower that blooms only in moonlight. On his travels, he runs into a rival Werewolf who turns him into a werewolf himself. Little does he know, but this flower that he found and transplanted to his lab is the only cure to stop the transformation. Here is the kicker, though: it only stops the transformation for one night. It is not permanent, so these two men are fighting over limited resources to stop themselves from turning.

When he transforms, he goes on a killing spree. He mostly mangles women but has also taken out a man here and there. His most impressive feat was killing his rival werewolf. Luckily, he was killed before he could kill his wife, ending the curse.

1st Place, The Wolf Man: 12 FN’F Score (1941-1948) 5 Movies

We’ve reached our titular character, Larry Talbot, better known as The Wolf Man. Mr. Talbot started as your normal, kinda stalker-ish man from the 40s who wanted to take a pretty lady he met in town on a date. He had recently moved back to his hometown and was heir to his father’s fortune. However, on the date, they ran into a wolf, and Larry got bitten while fending it off. After the ordeal, the wolf turned into a man, and Larry’s unfortunate set of circumstances began. He is now on the hook for a murder and is cursed to commit more murders every time the moon goes full!

“Even a man who is pure in heart

And says his prayers by night

May become a wolf

When the wolfbane blooms

And the full moon is bright.”

The rest of the series follows The Wolf Man as he seeks a cure for his curse. He is put into a coffin, frozen with Frankenstein’s monster after drowning, and shot with a silver bullet. Unfortunately, nothing could keep him down. He came back every time. Even his last appearance was not definitive. He grabbed Dracula and jumped off a cliff into the ocean. We have already seen him survive a fall like this, so he may still be traveling the woods to this day. So if the moon is ever bright, I’d run as fast as you can.

When it comes to score, I was surprised he scored so low with all of the appearances under his belt. Most of the time, Talbot looks like the saddest man you have ever seen. He does an amazing job of portraying despair since he has a resting depressed face. It’s heartbreaking. Unfortunately, in the first film, a fortune teller gives him a charm that would protect him from transforming, but he gives it away immediately. Come on, guy! Then he let Castello from the comedy duo beat him up in the woods when he got stuck in “some weeds,” maybe?

To put this score into perspective, The Wolf Man tied with other fellow Halloween classics like Wirt from Over the Garden Wall and Scooby-Doo from the James Gunn live-action movies.

Happy Spooky Season, everyone! We’ve finally reached the best time of the year. All you Christmas lovers need to check yourself, because Halloween takes the cake. We have better decorations, better movies, plus costumes and candy! How can you beat all that?

Speaking of Halloween, we have always celebrated spooky season here at Feats N’ Faults by selecting the best fall or scary movies. This year we are going old school. We will be covering four of the most iconic monsters of our culture, the Universal Monster movies. That’s right, I needed an excuse to buy the complete collection on Blu-ray, so let’s get into it! The first iconic creature is none other than the Gill-Man himself, The Creature of the Black Lagoon. How do the women of these films score, and how will The Creature compare to the rest of the Universal Monsters? Let’s strap in and find out.

Let’s Get Started!

4th Place, Helen Dobson: -1 FN’F Score (1955) 1 Movie

I was not sure what to expect going into this trilogy. I knew The Creature was going to do okay, but how would the female protagonist do? In Helen Dobson’s case, not very well. Starting off our list with a horrendous score of -1 is not a great start. This character was nothing more than arm candy, even though they tried to give her an independent woman backstory of going to college and being a Scientist. Yet the subplot was her choosing between being a stay-at-home mom with a dumb man and pursuing her education. Women had it rough back then, and this movie took all agency away from the character. They even used her to show how dangerous The Creature was. She was warned not to go near him but did anyway and got attacked and almost killed!

3rd Place, Ms. Barton: 0 FN’F Score (1956) 1 Movie

Ms. Barton started off much better. She is the wife of a jealous husband, but she remains loyal even though he doesn’t trust her. However, she doesn’t let him define her; she takes action on her own and goes against his wishes on multiple occasions. That might not seem like much, but this is the 50s people! Times they were a different back then. Going against your husband’s wishes was basically starting your own and getting a law degree.

When the film started, they tried to give her a badass attitude and had her hunt and kill two sharks on the voyage. Crazy way to introduce a character. But then she immediately did the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in a film. The crew went on a dive to search for the Creature and warned her that they would be diving more than 150 feet and that it would be dangerous. She said she could handle it and dove with them. The second they hit around 150 feet, she panicked. Does she go back to the ship, you ask? Nope, she starts to take off all her scuba apparatus so that she can drown. What a crazy panic defense mechanism. Just nope and yeet yourself out of existence. Crazy! Even the Creature was confused. business

2nd Place, Kay Lawrence: 1 FN’F Score (1954) 1 Movie

Nothing ever beats the original, and that is true for Kay as well. Her score might be only 1, but she is by far the best protagonist in the series. She may not have killed a shark, but she did save one of her fellow crewmates by setting The Creature ablaze! It was an awesome scene where they engulfed this fantastic practical suit and stuntman in flames as he jumped into the lagoon. A great moment that made me genuinely worry for the stunt performer.

1st Place, The Creature: 20 FN’F Score (1954-1956) 3 Movies

I enjoyed The Creature from the Black Lagoon a lot more than I thought I would. The sequels definitely don’t hold up as well as the first, but the Creature is much more sympathetic throughout the films than I expected. This guy just wants to live his life in peace in his little lagoon, and some dumb humans show up and hunt him. I wanted this Gill-Man to kill all of them, and even though he didn’t get them all, his kill count was larger than I was expecting for these old films. Almost all of his feats involve killing, except for when he kidnaps the lady protagonist of the films. I think his most impressive feat is killing a mountain lion with his bare fins and then smashing through an electrified cage. He even did this while his body was completely burned and had no scales for protection.

My big question is: how will this compare to the other Universal Monsters? We will be covering 3 others this month, and they all have twice as many movies as The Creature. Let me know in the comments whether you think The Creature can avoid last place, even with his lack of movies to compete. To put this score into perspective, this “Gill-Man” scored one point better than fellow sea monster Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean and tied with fellow green monster She-Hulk from the MCU.

Happy First Day of Fall! October snuck up on me this year, but I have been preparing for this Spooky Season for a long time. We have some fun Halloween specials coming up this month, and like always, I will be asking you to vote on what holiday special you'd like to see for our big finale. I see hundreds of you reading Feats N' Faults every week, but very few have participated yet. Don't be shy! I want to hear your opinions! Last year, IT won, and I had a blast scoring Pennywise and the rest of the Losers Club.

My favorite thing about spooky season is getting all cozy amongst the changing leaves out my window and settling in to watch a creepy movie. I am so excited to see what you all have in store for me this year, and I sincerely encourage all of you to vote for your favorite option! I tried to pick a diverse list of different genres, and we have everything from an animated series that will hit you right in the nostalgia to one of my favorite slashers!

Universal Halloween Spectacular

We have always celebrated spooky season here at Feats N’ Faults by selecting the best fall or scary movies. This year we are going old school. We will be covering four of the most iconic monsters of our culture, the Universal Monster movies. That’s right, I needed an excuse to buy the complete collection on Blu-ray, so let’s get into it! How do these iconic creatures and monsters compare, and can Abbot and Castello really beat any of them? I can’t wait to share my findings with all of you.

Thanks for tuning in to another Feats N' Faults. I appreciate all the support, and it helps to keep these feeds out promptly. I can't wait to spend spooky season with all of you again and look forward to seeing your votes! Oh, did I mention I'd really like you all to vote? Hehe, I had to get one more in before the end. I hope you all have a magnificent week, and I will see you Thursday for your typically scheduled Feats N' Faults.

Welcome to Feats N’ Faults, where we analyze the achievements and effects your favorite characters have on their respective universes. Today, we are covering a gem of a film that’s been on my watchlist for a long time, La Femme Nikita. This French film came out in 1990 and inspired the long-running TV series of the same name, as well as the American adaptation, “Point of No Return.” I was lucky enough to find a Blu-ray at a thrift store, immediately threw it into my Blu-ray player, and wasn’t disappointed. For this feed, we will be covering only one character as a spotlight on Nikita herself. First, let’s shake things up and get into the review.

Let’s Get Started!

Feats N’ Faults Reviews

La Femme Nikita: 8/10

This movie starts off with a bang. The lighting, colors, and compositions of the first 10 minutes will hook you from the start. I’m not going to get into too much spoiler talk because this is a rare film where I had no idea where it was going. It meanders, moving from one plot point to the next, yet it never reveals an endgame. It is reminiscent of how Nikita must feel, as she has no control over her future either. One minute you’re on a honeymoon or grocery shopping, and then you’re invading an embassy or assassinating your next target. You can feel how trapped Nikita is, and the film’s pacing does an excellent job of conveying her anxiety and surprise. Some scenes stick with you and create spectacular visuals and situations. The end may feel abrupt, but once you digest the experience, you understand the themes of freedom. This was the best possible outcome for our badass protagonist.

Nikita: 12 FN’F Score (1990) 1 Movie

In the grand scheme of the multiverse, Nikita doesn’t accomplish much. She is a fine assassin, but not as honed as John Wick or as effective; reaching double digits in a single outing is average. She killed a target in her underwear while talking with her fiancé through the bathroom door, and used a garbage chute to escape a grenade launcher. She is a badass in her own right, even if she is a tad crazy, but that wild punk side adds to her charm. You can dress up the girl, but you can never take the punk out of her. To put her score in perspective, Nikita tied with fellow freelancer North Dakota from RVB and was one point behind another schemer, Petyr Baelish from GOT. A fantastic movie doesn’t always mean a high score, and I can’t recommend this film enough.

Thanks for tuning into this streamlined version of Feats N’ Faults. Let me know if you’ve seen La Femme Nikita and tell me how you would rate it. Any other hidden gems you would recommend? My watch list is a mile long, but it could always be longer!

I hope you all have a week as fun as Nikita had while grocery shopping, and I will see you Next Thursday for more Feats N’ Faults

We are back crawling our way through the Spider-Verse and tackling the crazed mutated detective known as The Spider. Growing up loving the Spider-Noir character, I never thought that there was even a sliver of a chance of seeing a show, let alone a live-action one! Yet now, anything is mined for ideas in our creative drought of pop culture.

Today, we'll analyze the feats and faults of the villains and heroes of Spider Noir. How do you think The Spider will compare to the rest of the Spider-Verse?

8th Place, Janet: 2 FN’F Score (2026) 8 ep.

Janet is the plucky, no-nonsense assistant and the only one holding the business together. I have no idea why she stuck around, especially since she was rarely paid, but for Ben’s sake, it’s a good thing she did. Throughout the show, she successfully interrogated Tombstone and got information out of him, and she saved Ben from being shot by a thug at the beginning of the series. I’d never take her off the books, as she is the most vital employee of the entire series.

7th Place, Cat Hardy: 4 FN’F Score (2026) 8 ep.

Cat Hardy is a fun take on the Black Cat. In this universe, she is a lounge singer who is trapped by Silvermane. It is an interesting dynamic: you never know where her loyalties truly lie, but you always know she is looking out for herself. It is a bit far-fetched to see her attracted to or interested in Ben Reiley, but hey, this is a story about a mutated man, so I guess I can suspend some disbelief.

In this series, most characters did not earn a fault. Their shortcomings and failures were expertly written, and they never resulted from a stupid decision or lack of foresight. They simply failed, and trying and failing in and of itself is not a fault. Cat may have killed Silvermane, uncovered The Spider’s secret identity, and cured Sandman, but it wasn’t enough to make it to the top of the list. It’s a damn shame.

6th Place, Robbie Robertson: 4 FN’F Score (2026) 8 ep.

Tied to her is the series' reporter, Robbie Robertson. He is a fun angel on Ben’s shoulder and pulled off more feats than I expected. The big one was when he stabbed Toimstone in the eye with a syringe! Gah! I hate eye stuff. He went full crazy and jammed that needle into his eye, but thankfully it cured him and was the only way it could have been done. Go ahead and put that in your paper.

5th Place, Megawatt: 6 FN’F Score (2026) 8 ep.

Megawatt and Tombstone tied for 5th and 4th. Megawatt is by far the breakout star of the series, while Tombstone was a little bland for me. Tombstone was sympathetic and productive, but Megawatt reveled in his power and his evil. I miss that in stories. I was a non-sympathetic villain who just wanted to be evil! The campy fun had me glued to the screen every time I saw him.

4th Place, Tombstone: 6 FN’F Score (2026) 8 ep.

3rd Place, Sandman: 7 FN’F Score (2026) 8 ep.

Sandman outscored the others because he was active longer. When we heard and read that he committed multiple crimes, history allowed him to pull ahead by one point. The crux of the subplot follows Sandman and his relationship with Cat. They were the true romance of the series, and both were trapped under the thumb of Silvermane.

2nd Place, Silvermane: 9 FN’F Score (2026) 8 ep.

Silvermane is the main antagonist of the series, but in most cases I not only sympathized with him but agreed with him. It’s unusual for me to lean more towards the villain and see his plan as the correct one. Now do I agree with him using his power differntial to control Cat? Absolutely not! But he did have a point about controlling the crime, not doing anything really that bad but running a shady club, and seemed very reasonable when discussing with The Spider. In the end they were never able to come to terms and he was killed by the one person who deserved to pull the trigger.

1st Place, The Spider: 10 FN’F Score (2026) 8 ep.

The Spider is a different character than the other Spider-Noir we saw in the animated Spiderverse films. At first I wasn’t sure, but the lack of Nazis gives it away. This version of Spider-Man, known as The Spider, is a deeply flawed version of the webslinger. He is the only character in this series who has faults. He beat up a group of men at the bar who were innocent and even walked into another guy’s house and demolished his bathroom. But these moments are what make the character so likable. That, and Nicholas Cage’s performance.

Unfortunately, these faults cut his feats short and make The Spider the lowest-scoring Spider-Man we have analyzed so far. Even without the faults, he would be pretty low because of the lack of episodes and lower stakes in his series. Unfortunately, with Spider-Noir being canceled, the most interesting version of the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man may be the lowest on the Spider-Verse tier list. Which version do you think will end up being the best?

Welcome back to Feats N’ Faults, where we analyze and calculate the growth and effectiveness of your favorite pop culture characters. Today we are diving back into the world of Voltron: The Legendary Defender. We already covered the Paladins, so now it is time to look at the Galra themselves. Emperor Zarkon, Sendak, Haggar, and Prince Lotor are the big baddies of the series, and there are some surprising scores to get into.

Let’s Get Started!

Share Feats N' Faults

4th Place, Sendak: 45 FN’F Score (2016-2018) 15 ep.

Sendak has a rough road throughout the series. He is the general who is not afraid to get his hands dirty and join the fray. He desperately wants to be head of the Galra but never gets the chance to actually lead. However, his military prowess should not be underestimated. He led the attack on Earth and conquered it with ease. He was even able to capture the Paladins. Even though luck was never on his side, he was a competent leader with zero faults to his name.

Get 20% off for 1 year

3rd Place, Prince Lotor: 60 FN’F Score (2017-2018) 39 ep.

I was shocked to see Prince Lotor this low on our list. It goes to show how strong the iron grip of his parents was. The prince joined the show later in its run, but he quickly started to make a name for himself. He built an elite squad of half-Galra children and started to dominate the battlefield. Later on, he even created his own version of the Voltron suit and gave the Paladins a run for their money.

There was also a will-they-won’t-they with him and Allura, and in some moments you thought that either Lotor or Allura would switch sides for each other. In the end, Lotor was too deranged that even his trusted generals left his side. This is because he killed one of their ranks without explaining why. From that moment, Lotor began to crumble. However, during his tenure, he saved multiple solar systems, defeated Voltron, and became leader of the Galra Empire.

2nd Place, Emperor Zarkon: 151 FN’F Score (2016-2018)

28 ep.

Emperor Zarkon is on the short list of villains who actually achieved their goals. Before we are introduced to the Paladins, Zarkon had taken control of the entire Universe and caused the previous Paladins of Voltron to disband. As a military leader and tactician, he is second to none. Besides controlling most of the Universe, he was once the Paladin of the Black Lion and leader of the previous Voltron. Unfortunately for the Universe, this Galra warrior got too much of a taste for Quintessence, and it gave him a lust for power and a lack of empathy. It’s hard to be a ruthless Emperor without those qualities.

With his grand fleet and seemingly limitless resources, Emperor Zarkon destroyed the planet Altea, erased a solar system, and conquered an entire galaxy. If it were not for Voltron, he had the potential to conquer multiple realities, but his reign was cut short when his own son, an heir, Lotor, cut him down. Remember when we talked about lust for power and lack of empathy. Well, guess the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.

1st Place, Witch Haggar: 553 FN’F Score (2016-2018) 34 ep.

The true powerhouse was not Emperor Zarkon or their son Lotor, but the mother Witch Haggar. For most of the series, she stayed in the background as a secondary antagonist. However, in the final season, once Zarkon and Lotor were defeated, she came into her own and became a true threat to not only this Universe but the Multiverse! Since we view the Multiverse as containing all IPs and series, Haggar could have wiped out Star Wars or Doctor Who’s Universe if Voltron was not able to stop her. Luckily, she was stopped, but not before she harvested Quintessence from multiple realities and caused them to collapse.

In the end, she only had one fault, and it was this simple act that might have caused her plan to unravel. She had the chance to kill Lance, the Paladin of the Red Lion, but just let him go. If she did, it might have caused the Voltron team to collapse or be inexperienced enough to stop the Galra. You miss all the shots you never take, and you lose every battle if you don’t take it.

With this amazing score of 553 FN’F Score, we have a new member of our Top Tier list. In fact, she is now third on our list, only beaten by the two intergalactic and multiverse-saving heroes, The Doctor and Ben Tennyson. She will be making her mark on the FN’F tier list for a long time. Can anyone dethrone her? Let me know in the comments who you think can outscore the Dark Altean Witch herself.

Thank you for tuning in to another Feats N Faults. I hope you have a fantastic week, and I’ll see you all next Thursday for more Feats N’ Faults.

Welcome back to Feats N’ Faults as we take a look at all those other Bens in the Ben 10 series. There is a surprising number of Bens that show up throughout the series. I will not be looking at other versions of Ben connected to the prime timeline, such as the real Ben 10,000 or the younger version from Omniverse. Instead, we will be looking at all those Bens and Gwens that have made an appearance in some way. We will be looking at Mad Ben, Benzarro, Gwen 10, Ben 10,000 (alternate timeline), Ben 23, Nega Ben, Bad Ben, Deefus Veeblepister, and No Watch Ben.

Let’s Get Started!

Share

9th Place, Deefus Veeblepister: -1 FN’F Score (2014) 2 ep.

Deefus is basically the radio/movie star of the Ben 10 Universe. Ben’s exploits are exaggerated, and the aliens he uses are made up and sold to a mass market in other galaxies. Deefus is a mudpuppy that can shapeshift into any form and uses that to portray this alternate version of Ben. While he has the potential to be a force of good, he is a coward and a wimp. This unfortunate combination is why he is in the negatives and the worst Ben in the multiverse.

8th Place, Bad Ben: 0 FN’F Score (2014) 2 ep.

8th-6th Place is a tie since they never had a chance to achieve anything in the episodes they were in. They wrestled to create a spectacle rather than flesh out their characters. These set dressings, Ben’s, and Gwen were fun but never came close to their counterparts.

7th Place, Nega Ben: 0 FN’F Score (2014) 2 ep.

6th Place, Gwen 10: 0 FN’F Score (2014) 2 ep.

5th Place, Benzarro: 2 FN’F Score (2014) 2 ep.

Benzarro broke into the leaderboard and earned himself a couple of feats. He beat an alternate Ben and blew up a car. While that is not too impressive considering the Omitrix in his possession, at least he did better than the previous three.

4th Place, Ben 23: 5 FN’F Score (2013-2014) 5 ep.

Ben 23 is a version of Ben who never had his Grandpa Max’s guidance. This causes Ben to become very materialistic and uses his powers for good, but mostly to make money and be popular. He never learned those valuable lessons that turned him into the universe’s greatest hero. Speaking of, he earned two faults by eating Azmuth and accidentally finding the Ket of time for Maltruent. But at least he was able to help Ben Prime in the Mad Max version of his reality. This Ben has potential.

3rd Place, Ben 10,000 (AT): 7 FN’F Score (2006-2007) 2 ep.

This is an alternate version of Ben 10,000 from the original run of the show. Ben’s future was changed after Ben experienced it, and he and our Ben 10,000 even have a conversation about it. That means Ben 10,000 (AT) had only two episodes to prove himself, yet still outscored the other Bens.

2nd Place, Mad Ben: 8 FN’F Score (2014) 4 ep.

Mad Ben was the most successful of the evil Ben's. He was able to take over his entire town and even enslaved the population. This post-apocalyptic, Australian Ben would have scored much higher if only we had more time with him.

1st Place, No Watch Ben: 389 FN’F Score (2014) 2 ep.

Woah, look at that point jump! In 2 episodes, this version of Ben, without an Omnitrix, was able to score higher than most characters we have covered! This is exactly what I mean by there are two ways to play this game: either have a long show or achieve the incredible. This Ben achieved the heights that Feats N’ Faults can track. In these episodes, he saved the Multiverse, restarted the main timeline, saved a universe, and took out the big bad Vilgax in the first outing with the Omnitrix. This Ben started with no watch, but he was the hero that the Multiverse needed. Goes to show that Ben Tennyson is a force to be reckoned with even without his Omnitrix.

With a score like that, this No Watch Ben has entered the top 25 and even outscored characters like The Master from Doctor Who and Darth Vader from Star Wars. What a hero!

Thanks for tuning into another Feats N’ Faults. I will see you all next Thursday and hope you all have a heroic week.

Until Next Time!

Content Warning:

(-The film discussed in this review contains racist portrayals and stereotypes that are offensive and distressing. While these elements are examined in their historical context, readers should be aware that they are a significant part of the film.-)

We are back in the DC Universe to take a look at one of the first live-action properties they ever produced. The Batman 1943 Serial is an interesting piece of cinema and comic history. While the obvious racism can’t be ignored, the rest of the series is pretty fun. It shows a less competant batman than we are used to, but it is a fascinating ride nonetheless. Today we will follow the dynamic duo themselves, Batman & Robin, their trusty comic-relief butler, Alfred, and the mastermind behind it all, Prince Daka.

Let’s Get Started!

Share

4th Place, Alfred: -3 FN’F Score (1943) 15 ep.

This version of Alfred is the least competent version I have ever seen. This is accurate to all the characters, but especially Alfred. Alfred has been canonically in the Secret Service, fought in wars, and even become the Joker; however, this Alfred has trouble completing simple tasks. His lack of Feats is evident. Alfred was in all 15 episodes and only caused more trouble than he was worth. The man literally pulled out a gun, closed his eyes, and began to shoot in a room where Robin and Batman were fighting. He almost killed Robin! Not a very trusty butler.

3rd Place, Robin (Dick Grayson): 8 FN’F Score (1943) 15 ep.

While Robin lost most of the fights he’s been in, at least he did not almost kill Batman. Instead, he saved him on multiple occasions. Batman almost died a lot in this series. He was almost crushed by an elevator, run over by a train, eaten by crocodiles, and crushed between spike walls. Robin was able to keep him from most of these deadly fates. While Batman was lucky, Prince Daka was not. While he may have been a villain, Robin broke Batman’s golden rule and straight-up killed Daka. Not only did he kill him, but he also dropped him into a pit of gators. That’s brutal, dude!

Also, how does this kid breathe through his nose? That has to be one of the worst-looking masks of all time. But that does explain why Robin lost almost every fight he was in; they heard him trying to catch his breath in the shadows.

2nd Place, Prince Daka: 15 FN’F Score (1943) 15 ep.

Oh boy, cue the horrible racism of 1940s America. We will get into this more in the review, but yes, Daka is an Irishman with bad makeup and taped-up eyes. Is it incredibly insensitive? Yes, but for us, this is a character in this universe, and we will save the racist aspects for the review.

Prince Daka is a spy who has infiltrated the US and is carrying plans to overthrow the country. His biggest weapons are his disintegrator gun and his mind-control abilities. With these incredible achievements, he slowly begins to take over key members of the town and begins to hunt down and steal radium. In particular, he captured and took control of Batman’s fiancée.

His biggest fault was failing to kill Batman when he had the chance. But there is an aspect of Daka that I found interesting. Daka beat Batman in almost every episode of this serial. His men said they blew him up or watched him die countless times. Because of this, Daka assumed there must be many Batmen and that they were all part of another secret organization. I’ve never seen a villain take this perspective, and I thought it was a very plausible theory if I were in his position. Unfortunately, in the end he was fed to his own gators by a child in spandex panties. What a way to go.

1st Place, The Batman: 21 FN’F Score (1943) 15 ep.

In first place is the first live-action portrayal of Batman, played by Lewis Wilson. When I said Robin was incompetent, that does not even begin to describe this Batman. he does eventually win in the end, but every episode had Batman encounter the same group of thugs, and in every episode he lost to them and almost died. In this era, a cliffhanger ended every episode to draw you back to the theater the next week. This did Batman no favors, as it caused him to lose every fight. He is not particularly smart, stealthy, or a good fighter. An example of this is his fault. He fell for and got knocked out by a trap he knew was coming and even bragged about not falling for it. This Batman has tenacity, and that’s about it.

Another interesting aspect is that this Batman worked for the government as a secret agent. He received orders from them and acted in their interest. This alone makes this variant stand out from the pack, as Batmen are usually loners or anti-establishment.

When it comes to feats, his greatest was disarming a bomb to save a train full of passengers. Besides that, it is your standard affair. Takes out some goons, saves his fiancée, and saves Robin. Not a standout showing for the Caped Crusader’s first outing.

-FN’F Reviews-

Batman 1943 Serial: 4/10

Ok, we need to talk about the racism. Yes, this is 1943 America, and yes, this takes place right after Pearl Harbor. However, we know better, as they should have known back then. The racism and prejudice are so thick in this film that it is almost humorous with how wrong it is. Here is a link to how the first episode opens up; be warned, the propaganda is thick in this one.

It does show us a good snapshot of this time in the country. Fear was high as we were being pulled into a world war. The government used this fear, and we treated our asian population horribly. Unfortunately, I can see that we never learned our lesson.

Once we get around the racism, we can look at the episodes themselves. I am no stranger to serials; I actually really enjoy them and even covered some like The Black Whip on Feats N’ Faults already. I find the sped-up fighting funny and impactful, the low budgets charming, and the cliffhangers a joy. However, the soundtrack really betrays this serial. They either play nothing or the same part of a classical song for every scene. No whimsy or emotion, just straight panic and action for everything. The fight choreography is not the best either. For a superhero brawler, I was expecting more, but I’ve seen much better fight scenes in just about every Western. There is a fun scene with a car that changes color to get away from Batman and a scene where Batman uses a grappling hook, but that is all the comic book stuff in the serial. Even back then, they had a hard time leaning into the goofy aspects.

On a more interesting note, the atmosphere they created, vehicles, and architecture scream Batman: The Animated Series. I wonder how much influence this had on its art direction. Unfortunately, the prejudice, poor choreography, bad score, and lack of utilization of the Batman brand cause this serial to be an interesting piece of history but not a piece that I will ever return to.

We are starting our journey into the world of the Power Rangers with one of the most underwhelming entries in the series, but hey, you gotta start somewhere. I believe that some Rangers have a high potential to morph into the top of our leaderboard, but not so much these ones. Today, we are covering the 2017 Power Rangers Lionsgate movie. Saying I was pumped for this film is an understatement, but we will get into those aspects in the review. First, we will be analyzing the Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, and Pink Rangers from PR2017, as well as Rita Repulsa and Zordon.

Let’s Get Started!

Share Feats N' Faults

8th Place, Zordon: 1 FN’F Score (2017) 1 Movie

Zordon is very different in this film than in the original series. Instead of just a floating head of words of wisdom and insight, this Zordon was also a war veteran and a former Red Ranger. Now, his entire squad has died, including himself, but that just gives him a more interesting backstory.

Now, does that mean I like this Zordon? Actually, I do. I think Brian Cranston does a good job of playing this darker, conflicted version of the character. The backstory helps to connect Zordon to the Rangers and raise the stakes. The weird wall blocks are a fun way to visualize the character. However, I wish the film were not embarrassed by its campy roots and instead embraced them.

7th Place, Pink Ranger (Movie): 9 FN’F Score (2017)

1 Movie

The Pink Ranger is in last place, but in Kimberly’s defense, it is not by much. Like the others, Kimberly learned how to morph and defeated a couple of Puttys, but she made some bad decisions at the beginning of the film. betraying her friends’ trust and sending some crude photos was what put her at the bottom of the tier list. She might be tied overall with her other teammates, but this fault breaks the tiebreaker and lands her in last place.

6th Place, Black Ranger (Movie): 9 FN’F Score (2017)

1 Movie

The Yellow and Black Rangers performed the exact same feats at different times. Their personalities may be a bit different, but on paper, they are identical. Even thinking back, these rangers just blend in with the story but never come out to showcase what they can offer to the squad overall. While I feel for these Rangers because they only got one film and their tenure was cut short, that does not excuse the fact that they did not even reach double digits. The other Black and Yellow Rangers will leave these two in the dust.

5th Place, Yellow Ranger (Movie): 9 FN’F Score (2017)

1 Movie

4th Place, Red Ranger (Movie): 12 FN’F Score (2017)

1 Movie

In an uncharacteristic fourth place, we have our leader, The Red Ranger. Even with the disgusting take of the suits, I like this version of the character. Dacre Montgomery does a good job of playing the protector and heart of the team. I specifically enjoy him standing up for Billy before they even became a team. He was also able to save his father once he learned how to morph and form the Megazord. He’s a good leader, and I really wish we could have seen where this team could have gone.

3rd Place, Blue Ranger (Movie): 13 FN’F Score (2017)

1 Movie

Billy is by far the most interesting character in this film. I know that this was supposed to lead to a four-movie deal, and this first seems to be Billy’s, which would explain why he was able to outscore his fellow Rangers. This Ranger actually dies! He is fully killed and brought back to life. Thank goodness Zordon was there, or Mr. Blue Sky might have been the shortest-lived Ranger in history.

This version of Billy is the outcast. He recently lost his father and is dealing with a lot of big emotions while trying to connect with peers at school. The growth we experience with Billy feels real as we see him step outside his comfort zone and push the boundaries. In the end, he becomes the rounded individual he wishes to be and one of the world’s protectors.

2nd Place, Rita Repulsa (Movie): 15 FN’F Score (2017)

1 Movie

Rita beat every single Ranger in this film. In a rare upset, not only did she beat two teams of Rangers, but also killed two of them. Now, some of those feats were overturned when she let the Rangers live or, for no reason, freed them, but nonetheless, it is rare for a villain to actually kill their counterparts. There is also a scene where we see her rip golden teeth out of a dudes mouth, and as a person who’s recently been to the dentist, that is the most villainous thing I’ve seen in a while!

1st Place, Megazord (Movie): 17 FN’F Score (2017)

1 Movie

In the first place, we have the Megazord. This design looks naked and half-finished. I am used to bug-chunky, boxy Megazords, and that’s what I wanted! Stop trying to make everything edgy and cool. Make them campy and fun! That’s my position for every remake or reboot from now on.

This Megazord beat the others because, while the Rangers were combined, they saved the planet! It is rare to see a character come in first with only two feats but hey, saving the planet is just worth so much. Two ways to play this game, either score a lot or go for broke and try to earn one of the higher point feats.

Today, we are covering my favorite buddy cop movie, Rush Hour, and the rest of the franchise. There are rumblings of a fourth movie, but until I see a trailer, I can’t believe it, haha.

Jackie Chan is the best action hero of all time, and there is not a single movie he is in that I hate. I even find enjoyment out of Rush Hour 3! His action is so well choreographed, and its prop focus lends itself to comedy. That mix between solid physical comedy and Chris Tucker’s wisecracks gives everyone something to laugh at. There is never any dead space; you’re either laughing or on the edge of your seat, and that’s a thing of beauty.

Before we get into the plots, let’s dive into how the characters scored on our Feats N’ Faults System. We will be covering Inspector Lee and Officer Carter as well as the villains across the series, Kenji, Hu Li, Thomas Griffin, Sang, and Ricky Tan.

Let’s Get Started!

7th Place, Kenji: 1 FN’F Score (2007) 1 Movie

Remember, we are full spoilers on this substack, so if you have not seen these movies, now is your last chance. Kenji is the leader of the Triads and turned out to be Lee’s brother. He serves as a mirror to what Lee could have been without the proper guidance and a strong moral compass. Even though this reflection is obvious, Kenji is nothing compared to Lee. That’s why he is last on our rankings. The dude only earned a single point because of his faults that dragged his score down. He had the chance to kill Lee and let it pass. He also let himself get defeated and dropped to his death from the Eiffel Tower. He took the easy way out, and his score plummeted as fast as his body did. Womp Womp.

6th Place, Hu Li: 3 FN’F Score (2001) 1 Movie

Behind every man is a strong woman. Hu Li is Ricky Tan’s muscle. She is the operative who carries out his wishes and has the fighting prowess to back them up. She set off a bomb in the US Embassy, Beat Carter and Lee on multiple occasions, and even tied Lee up and shoved a live grenade directly into his gob!

While all those are well in good, she made some pretty heinous mistakes for a villain. Firstly, she let a secret agent go and did not kill them when she had the chance. The second is the worst yet. She decided that her best course of action was to blow herself up. Seems practical if it means destroying something important or even killing the good guys. However, she not only did not kill anyone, but no one was even seriously injured! What a waste.

5th Place, Thomas Griffin: 4 FN’F Score (1998) 1 Movie

Griffin, or should I say Juntao, is caught smuggling and dealing in Chinese artifacts. He was able to stay hidden, use his alias to divert suspicion, and remain in plain sight as an FBI Agent. Too bad he never learned to keep his money safe; he threw it over the edge while trying to fight off Carter. He didn’t even have to do it; he just nonchalantly hit the man with an unlocked briefcase and let millions just rain over the convention center. Why are all these guys so stupid!

Get 20% off for 1 year

4th Place, Sang: 4 FN’F Score (1998) 1 Movie

Sang may have scored fewer feats than the previous characters, but what sets him apart is his lack of faults. Having zero faults is a huge feat in and of itself and lets Sang cling to the points he managed to scrape up. He was able to kill a group of people with a bomb, kill two other people, and he was even able to escape Inspector Lee! It takes a lot to get away from Jackie Chan. The dude was a massive threat, but Lee got the better of him in the end.

3rd Place, Ricky Tan: 6 FN’F Score (2001) 1 Movie

Ricky Tan was Lee’s father’s former partner, turned Triad. Much like Sang, he was able to avoid a single Fault but had more connections and opportunities to score feats than Sang did. His largest Feat was making millions from counterfeiting, and his most impressive to me was capturing Lee and Carter and stripping them naked before dropping them on the highway, haha. Love that scene. Even with all his connections and money, he was unable to avoid Lee and Carter and was eventually brought down by the buddy-cop duo.

2nd Place, Carter: 20 FN’F Score (1998-2007) 3 Movies

Carter is the fast-talking wiseguy of the duo. He always has something to say and is not afraid to preach it from every rooftop. It is this mouth that got him paired with Lee. Carter was supposed to unwittingly waste Lee’s time, but instead, it created the best buddy-cop duo in comedy history.

I am disappointed with how his score turned out. He had three movies to prove himself, but was always second fiddle to Lee when it came to actually getting things done. His faults also played a role. Almost hitting double digits will severely damage your score.

1st Place, Inspector Lee: 37 FN’F Score (1998-2007)

3 Movies

Here comes Inspector Lee! Jackie Chan has to be the greatest action star of all time. His charisma, stunt prowess, and ability to turn any mundane item or location into an intense yet humorous action set piece are unparalleled. I can’t believe we haven’t done more Jackie Chan on this feed, but you have to start somewhere.

Lee is the straight man in the films. He is dedicated to getting the job done and has a strong moral compass. While Tucker may use his wit for comedy, Jackie uses his physicality. This dynamic is what makes the duo so lovable.

While I wish Lee could score more, breaking into the 30s is on par with having three films to your name. To put this into context, his score of 37 puts him on par with Nick Fury from the MCU and Thrawn from Star Wars. Not too shabby, but I can almost guarantee this isn’t the highest score Jackie will get. My bet is his character from Police Story will score admirably.

Welcome back to Feat N’ Faults! Today is the day. A couple of months ago, we had our first poll to select the next IP covered on Feat N’ Faults. You made your voices heard, and Indiana Jones was the most requested series. Now I thought this was going to be easy. Five movies, I can watch that in a weekend and get this out right away. Little did I know that Lucas put out a series of 22 feature-length episodes. So instead of five, I had to watch 27 movies! It took a lot longer than expected, but the journey was fantastic.

Today we will be covering Indy’s family and friends, as well as Indiana Jones himself. Who do you think will come out on top, and can Indy break that coveted 100 barrier? Let’s find out!

Let’s Get Started!

Share

12th Place, Anna Jones: 2 FN’F Score (1992-1993) 7 ep.

Anna Jones is Indiana’s mother, and while she never appears in the movie, she does have a significant presence in the show. There is not much to say about her. She exists and acts as a good mother for Indy. I almost did not track her contributions until the crazy fact that she cheated and almost left her family for Puccini! It was a genuinely tense episode with a very pushy man. In the end, she comes to her senses, but I honestly did not know what would happen.

11th Place, Marcus Brody: 2 FN’F Score (1981-1989) 2 Movies

Marcus does not do much in these movies. He is a recognized and appreciated character, but he mostly gives Indy his missions and a few tidbits of information. In The Last Crusade, he got some field action, but we see how inept he was at it. He was able to knock out a Nazi, and what more can be asked from an Indiana Jones character?

10th Place, Willie Scott: 3 FN’F Score (1984) 1 Movie

I love Willie. She is my favorite Indiana Jones love interest because she feels the most real in the face of the most ridiculous aspect of these adventures. Yes, she screams and is hesitant to follow, but who wouldn’t be! She is a singer who just wanted to go home and maybe get laid by Harrison Ford. I can’t blame the lady for trying either, but she did not sign up for this and has no expertise in this matter. I would be scared too if I found a secret cannibal death cult with mines of child slaves. She was even thrown out of a plane with no parachute and rode down a mountain in a dinghy. I mean, we should really show pity for the girl.

However, despite her trepidation, she conquered her fears and saved Indy and Short Round from being crushed to death. Willie also helped during the mine cart race and took out another cart. Finally, her biggest accomplishment was freeing dozens of child slaves from the mines. Not too bad for a lost singer.

9th Place, Teddy: 5 FN’F Score (2023) 1 Movie

Teddy is one of Indy's most recent companions. It would be more accurate to say that he was Helena’s companion and never saw eye to eye with Indy. He wants to steal artifacts and sell them to the highest bidder, which is very anti-Indy. The kid also has an interest in flying planes, which comes in handy when he steals a plane to follow Indy and the gang back in time. Surprisingly, he was also able to take out the big bruiser of the movie. Teddy drowned him underwater and escaped capture. Not too bad for a kid; Short Round would be proud.

Since Teddy is more of a petty pickpocket, he did not earn a single fault. Instead, this thief was scored more like a villain or anti-hero and earned credit for pickpocketing and hustling to survive. Sometimes it pays off to be bad.

8th Place, Mutt Williams: 6 FN’F Score (2008) 1 Movie

Mutt is one of the best aspects of The Crystal Skull. Shia Lebouf might not be for everyone, but I have always enjoyed his acting and characters. It is a shame that we were never able to see him take up the mantle of his old man, but his potential is evident. In one movie, he earned zero faults even though he is the young kid on the scene. Instead, he is an expert at driving, fighting, and even vine swinging for some reason. He is Indy’s son. I wish there was more to say, but Mutt disappeared and then enlisted only to die in the Vietnam War. Not a very ceremonious end for the heir to the hat and whip.

7th Place, Marion: 8 FN’F Score (1981-2023) 3 Movies

Unfortunately, Marion is indeed this low on our tier list. The problem is that none of Indy’s partners were able to score very high, since he is a glutton for action and for scoring his own feats. This left very little for the sidekicks to do. Even though she appears in three movies, it was his first where she was able to have the most impact. The scene with the plane allowed her to mow down Nazi’s and deliver my favorite death in the entire series, where she eviscerated a man with the propellers. Oof, what a fantastically choreographed scene.

When it comes to her role in the plot, there is no wonder why she was able to marry Indy. She is just the right amount of nonsense to put Indy in his place and deal with his mouth.

6th Place, Henry Jones Sr: 9 FN’F Score (1989-1993) 8 ep. 1 Movie

Professor Jones, the original, I might add, has an interesting history in Indiana Jones lore. The first time we are introduced to the character is in the 1989 film The Last Crusade. Here we find an ideological man who is obsessed with his discoveries and knowledge and not as concerned about his son. This puts a wrench in things as we go back to the past and explore the adventure of Young Indiana Jones. Since they had already established the endpoint and resolution for his character, we had to be stuck with this grumpy, scholarly man, who only on occasion showed signs of joy or acceptance of his son. On one of these occasions, he was forced to take his son on a trip to a monastery in the mountains, and they got stuck in a pulley dangling halfway up the mountain all night. During this episode, we did get some bonding and a beautiful dynamic between the two. Still, this encouraging scene was short-lived, as Indy soon left to join the Belgian Army during WWI without talking to his father. The scars were too deep to fix this relationship until the end, when Indy helped him find his passion, the Holy Grail.

When it comes to feats, Jones Sr. does two of the most impressive things I have ever witnessed. Yes, yes, the first has to be finding the actual Holy Grail. That’s fine and dandy, but this dude used a flock of seagulls to destroy a plane! Then he just popped open his umbrella, and a fighter pilot blew up above them. If you do not find that impressive, then you can go ahead and stop reading.

5th Place, Helena Shaw: 10 FN’F Score (2023) 1 Movie

I have a complex relationship with Helena Shaw. As most of you can tell, I love strong women characters in media. I have always gravitated toward characters like Ripley, Buffy, and Android 18. Unfortunately, I think Helena is a very flawed character to the extent that she does not vibe with me. Her actions are always selfish to the point that she uses her godfather to gain the dial of Archimedes and then locks him in a room with a group of murderous agents. She has no sympathy for Indy. She also just wants to sell these artifacts for money. They never revisit that aspect or show how she has changed and realizes they belong with the people of that culture or in a museum.

All that being said, she is still talented. She is a clever archeologist/treasure hunter and is useful in a fight. She beat some Nazis, stole some artifacts, and graduated from college. Sounds like the beginning of Indiana’s story too. Now she just needs to find a moral compass, and we might have a half-decent character to headline a series.

4th Place, Short Round: 10 FN’F Score (1984) 1 Movie

Yay, it’s Short Round! Short Round is my favorite out of all of Indy’s companions. Remmy is a close second, but Shorty is the perfect balance for the darkness of the Temple of Doom. Temple of Doom has its problems, but it is my favorite out of the movies. Shorty is a big reason for this. I have no idea where he came from, but I like the idea that Indy has made friends so many places that he just runs into them. My headcanon is that Shorty was just trying to make a buck driving a cab when Indy fell into his car after escaping from the club. I cannot think of a logical explanation for how Short Round would have known Indy would be jumping out of that window, on that floor, in that club, and have a car ready. Instead, Indy got lucky and just happened to know the driver, and they went off to have an adventure. It is just more charming and fun to think of it that way.

When it comes to feats, Short Round was really close to being the best partner Indy has had. He only got one movie to shine but did not let it go to waste. He saved Willie and Indy on multiple occasions. If it were not for him, Indy would still have been brainwashed in that temple, ripping hearts out of people. It still guts me when Indy hits Short Round, but it is when he apologizes that it really hits me in the feels.

3rd Place, Sallah: 10 FN’F Score (1981-2023) 3 Movies

Oh, my darling Sallah. Sallah tied with Short Round for the second- and third-best partner Indy had. Sallah is a trusted ally and partner to Indy. He is a recognizable figure, but many would be surprised at how little he is actually on screen. In the end, he earned his namesake by running a digging company and helping Jones find the Ark of the Covenant. His one fault was that instead of saving Marcus, he went and put him in the back of the enemy’s truck and watched them drive away. Eh, what are you going to do? Marcus was helpless in the field.

2nd Place, Remy Baudouin: 13 FN’F Score (1992-1993) 9 ep.

Second place is going to shock a lot of people. I’m not sure how familiar Indiana Jones fans are with the TV series, but Remy played a huge role in Indy’s past. We first find Remy as a Belgian who joined Pancho Villa’s revolution. When WWI broke out, he took Indy with him to enlist in the Belgian Army, and they served together for many years. They fought side by side in the trenches, traveled through the Congo, and were then enlisted by the French Secret Service together. They lived and survived off each other in those early years, and once you know that foundation, it is no wonder why he is Indy’s best companion. This Belgian went through a lot, and the last time we see him, he is obsessed with the crystal that Indy was trying to procure at the beginning of Temple of Doom. We never hear what happens to Remy, but I hope he finally went home to his wife and not on some crazy adventure for a change.

1st Place, Indiana Jones: 153 FN’F Score (1981-2023) 22 ep. 5 Movies

It was never a surprise who would come in first place. Indiana Jones is a legend that has never left public consciousness. Since the first series, there has always been some sort of Indy project. Having the same portrayal of a character be prominent for five decades is a feat in itself. A lot of the credit has to be given to Harrison Ford’s charisma. He embodies this character like no one else could, and it always bugs me when they want to recast the character. He is perfect, and this property has lasted long enough. There is no shame in trying something new, and let this juggernaut of a property with five movies and 22 feature-length episodes rest.

You aren’t here to listen to me ramble on about how to handle a property. Instead, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of Indy’s feats. His childhood was insane. Every episode had you trying to guess where and who would show up next. It gives you whiplash sometimes. One episode started with Indy going to prom and ended with him somehow getting wrapped up in the Mexican Revolution and joining Pancho Villa. There is just too much to talk about, so I am going to summarize everyone he met. He hunted with Theodore Roosevelt in the African Savannah, acted with Wyatt Earp, ran away with Leo Tolstoy, and discussed psychology with Freud and Jung over dinner. Every episode had this kid or teen engaging with an important historical figure or participating in historic events. The series really is a masterpiece of history and television. It can be hard to find, as I had to pay a pretty penny to get all three collections on DVD, so don’t say I never do anything for the fans haha.

When it comes to the movies, Indy found the Holy Grail, the Ark of the Covenant, Aliens, a forgotten cannibalistic death cult, and traveled through time! He also defeated and expelled the immortal Vlad the Impaler during the TV series. These mystical aspects combined with the nitty-gritty of our world are what make Indy so special for me. It reminds me of a world that still has mysteries and magic, much like ancient Greece or Mayan cultures viewed the world around them. It is fun to put that lens on a more modern world and see what it would be like to add that pinch of magic that we so desperately lack now.

Now it is time for my favorite part. Let’s see how Indy compares to other pop culture figures we have covered so far. First, when we covered Pirates of the Caribbean, I asked whether Jack Sparrow would be able to outscore Indiana Jones. We can see now it is no contest, and Indy almost doubled Jack’s score! Indy has also scored higher than Sabine Wren from Star Wars and Jo Grant from Doctor Who! Those are some heavy-hitting sci-fi properties he was able to beat. Better not mess with a man with a whip.

Thank you for tuning in to another feed of Feats N’ Faults. This property really got out of hand for me, so I will be doing a review separately. With so many movies and a TV series, it is hard to put it into this already bloated weekly episode. We will also be covering some of the villains in a future feed, so be sure to subscribe to stay up to date. Let me know in the comments who you would like to see next, and I hope you have an adventurous week. Go visit your local museums, and I will see you next Thursday for more Feats N’ Faults.

Welcome to the final episode of The Force of July! With the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu, we have been able to do a deep dive into the galaxy far, far away. We are ending our celebration with a bang and analyzing one of the best planned and lore-building shows of the series. That is right, we are covering the animated classic Star Wars Rebels. So much lore has erupted from this series that we are still seeing these characters to this day. Every one of the animated characters we are covering today has a live-action counterpart, except for one. And some might argue he does as well, since he was an easter egg in a picture of the dash of the Ghost. But that is enough conjecture; we are covering the crew of the Ghost: Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, Sabine Wren, Zeb Orrelios, Hera Syndulla, and everyone’s favorite murderous droid, C1-10P, AKA Chopper.

We could not have a Star Wars celebration without , so get that Ewok music playing and buckle in as we discuss Star Wars Rebels. Don’t forget to follow along with the scores as this podcast works almost like a companion piece or commentary track to today’s feed. Enjoy and may the Force be with you.

6th Place, Chopper: 80 FN’F Score (2014-2023) 79 ep. 1 Movie

I was expecting Chopper to break the 100 barrier, but it is hard to live up to the standard that R2-D2 set during his tenure. Still, this murderous little droid was the heart and maniacal laughter of the group. Plus, out of all the droids in the series, he has, without a doubt, taken out the most storm troopers. I mean, seriously, look at his top feat: this droid beat an Inquisitor! How embarrassing.

Unfortunately, that wild-card energy carries over and becomes the focus of his own team, which causes Chopper to earn five faults by attacking or distracting his own crew. Still, an 80-point start to our tier list has to be the highest last-place score we have ever done. To put him into perspective, Chopper here has scored higher than Black Widow from the MCU and his fellow Star Wars character Han Solo! This lil droid beat an OG, and we are just starting this list! How disrespectful!

5th Place, Hera Syndulla: 94 FN’F Score (2014-2023) 81 ep.

Hera is the matriarch of the group. While they all contribute, if I had to pick one to be the leader, it would be Hera. She is the pilot of the Ghost and is not afraid to showcase her skills. She has out-piloted and gunned down many TIE fighters and fleets of combatants. She was even able to escape Darth Vader, who is known as one of the best pilots in the entire galaxy. While her live-action counterpart did not see a lot of action, she shines in the animated series.

I don’t know what it is, but I love seeing a Twi’lek in action. I think it is because of the stigma that surrounds the race from the original series. Being seen as a commodity to be used and traded really gets under my skin, which is why I love characters like Hera and Devon, as they take that stereotype and smash it over their knee. You’re never going to slow Hera down, especially since she has a son to care for now. Momma’s gonna get ya.

4th Place, Zeb Orrelios: 97 FN’F Score (2014-2026) 64 ep. 1 Movie

Zeb is one of my favorite characters in all of Star Wars. I need to sit down and do a tier list on that sometime. If you want and I to sit down and rank our top ten characters, let us know in the comments!

Zeb is one of the last of his species, known as the Lasat. The Lasat is my favorite species in the universe. I’m sorry to all you Poobian fans out there, but Lasats kick but. They are strong, agile, and have a kick-ass silhouette. Even the color of their fur and facial hair is peak design. This design and voice acting are what draw me to Zeb, but it is his characterization and heart of gold that make me love the character even more.

To showcase just how influential Zeb is, he was once stranded on an ice planet. With him was an Imperial officer who gave the order to wipe out most of the Lasat race! Zeb is not a fan of this man, but they work together to survive, and he saves his life. After this ordeal, the Imperial turned and became the new foe that betrayed Thrawn! This one Lasat put aside the genocide that he faced and redeemed the perpetrator. While he may be the strongest brawler on the team with decent flying skills, it is this feat that stands out to me the most.

3rd Place, Kanan Jarrus: 118 FN’F Score (2014-2022) 66 ep.

Surprise, surprise, the three force-sensitive characters make up the top 3. Their placement might surprise you, but Kanan is in third place for the team. Kanan is the Jedi who survived Order 66, which we were able to see at the beginning of The Bad Batch. Here, Master sacrificed herself so that he could flee, and then we find him grown up with a brand new name and married to a rebel pilot.

What I love about Kanan is that he is not the generic Master in the series. He is not faultless and does not have all the answers. Instead, he learns and grows along with Ezra as they navigate the world they are in and develop their own identity with the Force. Kanan also receives one of the only permanent battle wounds that I can remember in Star Wars. Sure, people get their hands cut off, but then they get robot ones, and it does not matter. I guess there are no robot eyes in this universe because Kanan was blinded by Darth Maul and carried those scars until the moment he died. Oops, did I forget to mention that? Well, I did warn you about spoilers. Yes, Kanan sacrificed himself to stop an explosion and save his pregnant wife and rebel family. No end could be more honorable. Kanan learned from his Master, the Bendu, Yoda, and his own experiences and turned into one of the best Jedi in all of Star Wars. Will we ever see him again? I doubt it, and in reality I don’t want to. His story is tragic but should be left alone. It would spoil his memory to dig up that grave.

2nd Place, Ezra Bridger: 125 FN’F Score (2014-2023) 73 ep.

Ezra Bridger, the main character of the series, comes in second place. You do not see that happen very often, but he had a little less screen time than the first-place character and scored the highest number of faults out of the crew. He was a little thief before joining, but most of his faults come from his lack of forethought. The man shot Rex; I’m surprised he’s even alive after doing that. However, Ezra is not a failure by any means. He broke the one hundred barrier with ease and had some of the most growth out of any Jedi. I would put him in the same category as Kanan, Darth Maul, and Kenobi. All of these characters have had different versions of themselves and grew throughout the series. Ezra is the exact same. He started off as a little boy, grew up, and then changed his philosophy. One aspect I wish he didn’t change was the first lightsaber he built. He was the first Jedi smart enough to add a blaster to the hilt! What a great idea that is extremely versatile. Unfortunately, he got a second saber that removed this device, and now he does not use a saber at all. So while his character has been evolving, his lightsaber has completely devolved. Hey, to each his own, I guess.

1st Place, Sabine Wren: 137 FN’F Score (2014-2023) 76 ep.

In first place we have the artistic Mandalorian herself, Sabine Wren. Sabine has had somewhat of a renaissance lately. When Rebels ended, I did not imagine her character getting the focus she has, to the point that she has become Ahsoka’s apprentice. It even surprises me that Ahsoka began training her after her past with the Force and the Jedi in general. It was this time in Ahsoka that put Sabine ahead of Ezra. She had more focus and more things to do, which allowed her to outscore her fellow crew member.

This young girl, who started her rebellion by tagging Imperial vehicles and buildings, grew up to have a pivotal role in the rebellion and liberation of Lothal, earned the Dark Saber, became ruler of Mandalor, and is one of the few who have traveled outside the galaxy. When you look at everything she has done and accomplished, you begin to respect her score and why she has managed to claw her way up to first place. To put her score into perspective, as of now, only five other Star Wars characters have been able to outscore her. She has also scored higher than the Paladin of the Black Lion Keith from Voltron Legendary Defender and the Hulk from the MCU.

:Feats N’ Faults Reviews:

Star Wars Rebels: ?/10

Thank you for tuning into the finale of Force of July! I hope you enjoyed our jaunt through the galaxy far, far away and can not wait to cover more of this series with you in the future. Welcome to another Star Wars Feats and Faults. We are getting to the end of Force of July and have some iconic characters to add to our tier lists. Let me know if any of these characters’ placements surprise you. Today we will be analyzing Yoda, Mace Windu, Aayla Secura, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Plo Koon, Kit Fisto, Eeko-Dio Daki, and Quinlan Vos. Who do you think will end up on top, and who is your favorite Jedi?

Let’s Get Started!

Share

8th Place, Quinlan Vos: 3 FN’F Score (2010-2025) 5 ep.

Quinlan is a cool concept and great design for a Jedi, but he never gets his time to shine. Yes, he has some fun action in the Clone Wars, and he showed back up briefly in Tales of the Underworld, but he never accomplishes anything. He is always there, but that is it. We are told that he saves Younglings in the Obi-Wan live-action show, but that is it. He did not even revive Ventris. He brought her back, yes, but it was the mysticism of her sisterhood and mother that did that. Maybe one day we will get to see him in action.

7th Place, Ki-Adi-Mundi: 7 FN’F Score (2010-2025) 3 Movies 30 ep.

One thing these Jedi all have in common is spending their prime in the Clone Wars. Ki-Ad-Mundi is in the same boat. Most of his feats come from destroying battle droids, as we did not get to see what role he would play in The Acolyte. I had no idea this species had this long of a lifespan and was genuinely interested in where a second season would go. I highly doubt we will ever get to see it, though.

6th Place, Plo Koon: 14 FN’F Score (1999-2022) 4 Movies 50 ep.

Just like Ki-Adi-Mundi, Plo Koon was pivotal during the Clone Wars. One of the best pilots in the Republic, Plo shot down many droids. He was also a mentor to Ahsoka and joined the impressive line of teachers that helped forge who she is. Even though Plo was in a lot of episodes, he does not necessarily participate in every one. The Jedi Council appears as holograms in many Clone Wars adventures, but it is usually a Clone, Anakin, Kenobi, or Ahsoka that actually does the work. That is why most of these Jedi have high episode counts but low FN’F Scores. He did capture Boba Fett! That’s pretty cool. Was he a kid at the time? Well, yeah, but still.

5th Place, Eeko-Dio Daki: 15 FN’F Score (2026) 10 ep.

The Mosyk Jedi master known as Eeko-Dio Daki is another Jedi of a growing list that survived Order 66. As of now, 28 Jedi or padawans have survived the purge and either gone on the run or become inquisitors. I believe George Lucas was quoted as saying there were 10,000 force users in the order and that 1% survived. In that case, we have been introduced to a remarkable few of the survivors. Looks like there is a lot of wiggle room for writers to keep making up Jedi whenever they want.

That being said, Daki represents what the order was before the Clone Wars. I mentioned this on the podcast, but he would be content to find a safe space and meditate for the rest of his life. Living a peaceful existence is enough for him. Unfortunately, he has been dragged down, besmirched, and forced into a fugitive status, where he will not be on the run. This constant running has kept his senses sharp, as he is the only Jedi in recent memory to get a hit on Vader. It was not enough, though. Womp Womp. Another Jedi falls to Vader, who could have seen that coming?

4th Place, Aayla Secura: 15 FN’F Score (2002-2020) 2 Movies 12 ep.

I was surprised to see Aayla Secura this high on the list. I think this placement will surprise a lot of people. The only thing I remember her for is getting blasted in the Felucia forest and being awesome in Star Wars Battlefront 2 on the PS2. The Clone Wars show gave her more opportunities, and she did everything she could to increase FN’F score. None of them are that fancy: destroy a droid here, restore power there, but she did not earn a single fault, and that allowed her to maintain her lead. I like seeing an empowered Twi’lek, which is why I’m so excited about Devon in the Maul show!

Get 20% off for 1 year

3rd Place, Kit Fisto: 21 FN’F Score (2002-2014) 3 Movies 30 ep.

My man! Kit Fisto was my favorite Jedi to come out of the Clone Wars. I had a little action figure of him and everything! I thought he was so cool, and that cheeky little smile he gives in episode 2 sold it. His episodes in The Clone Wars are some of my favorites. Instead of a large-scale, never-ending war, we get to focus on one planet, Mon Cala. We get to see a civil war between the Mon Calamari and Quarren. The true prince who shall become king is also captured by the separatists, and we get to not only see Kit Fisto in his natural habitat, but also Jar Jar! I know, I know, and I talk about Mr. Binks way too much, but hear me out. Jar Jar saves Padme by hawking up a loogie and providing her air! What a legend.

Speaking of legends, Fisto can dominate underwater. He kills a giant sea creature while destroying Grievous’ lair. Then he is even able to save the King on Mon Cala. He does his duty as a Jedi in war to the utmost degree. He may have been cut down unceremoniously by Sidious, but Kit deserves our third-place position.

2nd Place, Yoda: 38 FN’F Score (1980-2025) 9 Movies 78 ep.

Can you believe Yoda is this low on our Tier List? I was not expecting the symbol of wisdom to be in our Top 10, but a 38 FN’F score is disappointing for the amount of screen time and recognition this muppet possesses. If you think about it, it is not impossible to comprehend. When we see Yoda, he is normally providing advice or denying Anakin a position on the council. It is the animated shows where Yoda is given the agency to participate in the Universe besides training Luke.

All that being said, if we look at his feats, we do see that he accomplishes more than most Jedi. Yoda is the only Jedi that I know who was able to achieve enlightenment, which solidifies his Buddha status for the Jedi Order. For a Jedi, I do not believe there is a higher goal to achieve. He reached the pinnacle of his order and participated in one of the longest and most brutal wars of his lifespan.

His faults are what trip his little green legs up. First, in his canonical first appearance in the timeline, he sends a group of Younglings off-world and unsupervised on a mission. Remember, these kids are not even padawans yet. They are like what, five or six years old? I don’t even know how one was able to fly, but that’s another point. He let them go with a pilot who was also only six! What the hell, Yoda? Also, we know that he sensed Anakin’s love for Padme as well as the resentment and hate growing inside him. Yet what does Yoda do? He assigns Anakin to Padme for protection! I mean, come on, you do not sense a Dark Lord of the Sith is literally running your government in the room across the hall, but this is something that you actually noticed and encouraged. Shame on Yoda! Maybe he is not as wise as we give him credit for? You know what, I’m actually mad now, he does deserve that score!

1st Place, Mace Windu: 48 FN’F Score (1999-2022) 5 Movies 60 ep.

In first place, we have the Mother Fuckin’ Jedi himself, Mace Windu. This dude does not get the credit he deserves. He is a monster during the Clone Wars. He kills over 100,000 Battle droids and is the reason many missions were a success. He cuts Jango Fett’s head clean off and does not even leave a scratch on his armor. Then, in the movie, when he discovers that Palpatine is a Sith Lord, he immediately rounds up the best Jedi in the temple and forms a kill party. While the rest of his posse dies, Windu actually beats Sidious. He had him beaten, captured, and dead to rights. Windu even knew he could not leave this conniving little bastard alive either. If it wasn’t for Anakin, this story would have been over a long time ago. That feat impresses me the most. Not even Yoda could beat Sidious. Only three people ever beat Sidious. Anakin, Ray, and Windu.

To put this Jedi Master’s score into perspective, he tied with Ego the living planet from the MCU and the first companion Ian Chesterton from Doctor Who. He even outscored the coldest killer in all of westerns, The Man With No Name from the Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Western Trilogy. Not too shabby.

Thank you for tuning into another force-filled Feats N’ Faults. I hope you have a wonderful week, and may the Force be with you.

Until Next Time!

Welcome to our continuing celebration of the Galaxy Far Far Away. The Force of July is still in effect, and today we are following some newcomers into the series. Wim, Neel, KB, SM-33, Fern, Gunter, Jod, and Brutus have entered the fray in the Star Wars version of the Goonies. Which one do you think will end up on top, and how well did these kids do while they were lost in space?

Share Feats N' Faults

8th Place, Wim: 1 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 8 ep.

In last place is Wim. Wim is the definition of a dreamer and is the reason all the kids got lost in space in the first place. That brings us to our first fault for Wim. He was specifically told not to touch anything, and yet he did, leaving kids stranded in space with no way home. If it were not for SM-33, they would have starved and died up there. Wim did save KB’s life in the end. He created a core on the beach with her instructions and successfully prevented her from malfunctioning. It was a genuinely tense moment.

I was worried that the boy who dreamed of being a Jedi would show an aptitude for the force. I was certain that he would find a lightsaber or pick up something with the force, but the show refrained. I appreciate that, as the group just being kids in space was enough to engage me without throwing more lore at me.

7th Place, Neel: 1 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 8 ep.

Neel was my favorite among the kids, but in terms of actions and impact on the story, he did not accomplish much. There are some wonderful character-growth moments, and that adorable animatronic head is to die for, but he achieved only one feat: saving Wim. At least he didn’t do anything wrong, or he’d be in the negatives. I wish there were more to say about Neel other than he is cute and I want a pair of those overalls, but unfortunately, there isn’t.

6th Place, Gunter: 2 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 7 ep.

“Did I do that?” I had to get a Urkel reference in somewhere! Gunter is just a space pirate. Yeah, should he have been tracked? Probably not, but the actor did play Urkle, so I couldn’t resist. Maybe he could score more in the future, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for Gunter to get a series anytime soon. But hey, he did score more than two of the main characters, so that’s something, right?

5th Place, Fern: 5 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 8 ep.

Fern is a bit hard to handle at times, but she embodies how a kid would act in the circumstances. They establish her character in the beginning, and we eventually see a softer side to her. She didn’t have to pull Neel up that ladder by a rope, but she did! I can’t think of another child who could physically climb and pull a blue elephant up behind them. Talk about core strength! She also saved the group on multiple occasions. One from a giant stop motion crab, and another by removing the Hull of the Cinder and freeing them from the incinerator. She was the captain they needed and deserved!

4th Place, SM-33: 6 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 8 ep.

I don’t know why, but I am always drawn to the droids of this universe. SM-33 is a unique take, and I would love to know if there is just a store out there where you can buy anydroid for your needs. Star Wars never shows where these droids come from. I laugh thinking about seeing different options for your droid and a group of people picking the pirate dialogue option! I mean, come on, the jokes would be countless. I want a droid sitcom this instant!

With my delusional ramblings out of the way, SM-33 is a very useful companion for the team. He is a pretty good fighter and even saves the kids. I never thought about it much, but he does look like a smaller version of the K2-SO droid from Andor. I wonder if this was a prototype or a cheaper model?

3rd Place, KB: 7 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 8 ep.

You might have come into this feed thinking that Fern or Wim would be the best kid on the team, but KB blew them all out of the water. Her technological know-how put her miles ahead in terms of competence. She was the most useful, using her skills not only to save people but also to capture a wanted pirate, Brutus! Not bad for a kid; she could work on her landing skills, but hey, she survived, so it was a good landing, right?

2nd Place, Brutus: 7 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 6 ep.

Brutus is an awesome character design. I wish there were a pirate show where Brutus, Hondo, and all the other fun pirates got together to race towards a treasure or something. Now that would be a fun show! Disney, are you listening? My line is always open. Call me.

When it comes to scoring, this is the rare occasion where the two villains of the series scored way higher than the heroes. I actually can not think of another example of this happening. Brutus is a straight-up pirate and earned his score by stealing and taking what he thought was his. Not much more to say. Cool design and does what it says on the tin.

1st Place, Jod Na Nawood: 52 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 8 ep.

Woooah! Look at that score. I know I was not expecting that, so there is no way you predicted this! If you did, let me know in the comments because I have no idea how you could. The main takeaway from Jod’s feats is that they consider Attin a planet. It is not a city, it is a planet. So when they refer to At Attin and taking control of At Attin, and everyone confirms that he has disabled or shut down At Attin, they are talking about a planet! So, in two moves, Jod shut down power to an entire planet and, in another scene, captured and controlled it. That is 16 points each, which ballooned his entire score by 32!

Yeah, I did math for you, but come on. The dude turned out to be a monster at the game of Feats N’ Faults. This force-wielder-turned-pirate has some impressive feats, but his entire plan failed because he didn’t have the heart to kill a couple of kids. If he had chopped them and their parents down as soon as they got to the vault, he would have won easily. Instead, he lost and then just smiled. Do I know if he will be back? I dunno he is a high-profile actor with a small part in this seemingly standalone story. I do not expect it anytime soon, but that score is still impressive. I can’t get over it.

Feats N’ Faults Review:

Skeleton Crew: 6/10

The more separation I have from this show, the more forgettable it gets. I enjoyed it as it aired, and I appreciate that it seems to be a standalone story, but it has not infected my imagination as other Star Wars projects have. It looks fantastic, the production design is on point, and the plot was engaging. I’m not sure why it doesn’t have the wow factor I was expecting when it was first announced. I enjoy it, it is a good show, but it is not one of the best. A fun jaunt through the underbelly of the universe. I would recommend it to a Star Wars fan, but I don’t think I will be rewatching it anytime soon.

Thanks for celebrating the Force of July with me, and I hope you have a force-filled week. I will see you all next Thursday for more Feats N’ Faults

Until Next Time!

Welcome back to Week 2 of Force of July! Today, we are covering Maul and his new show, Maul the Shadow Lord. IS Feats N’ Faults usually this current? Absolutely not, and the frequency of this will be reflected in the discussion and the scores for these characters. Many of them will receive updated scores when season two comes out, so nothing in this feed is final, and some characters may be missing and will receive official scores once season 2 arrives. If we can overlook the growing pains, we have a very fun feed for everyone this week. is here again as I guest on his podcast to spread the word of Nubs across the land. Don’t forget to go over to Death Star Human Resource Department for all the Star Wars info you could ever want, and to support a wonderful Substack.

Let’s Get Started!

7th Place, 2B0T: 10 FN’F Score (2026) 10 ep.

2 Boots is a wonderful addition to the Star Wars droids. While he is still subordinate to Lawson, it is more of a partner dynamic than an ownership role. I find this aspect unique as droids in this universe either seem to exist to perform labor for organics or are death machines. Instead, we have a droid with a moral code who is performing police duties. One of my favorite aspects of this character is his need to fit in and be a part of everything. He’s just holding a coffee cup, so he can “Chill with the bros.” It creates a very endearing quality. It also leads to his turning point when the Imperial Officer turns down this innocent gesture.

Don’t let this bot fool you either, he was not built just for paperwork. 2 Boots kicks, but he is a lot more agile than I was expecting. He wins multiple gunfights in the show, and I would take his help over a Stormtrooper any day!

6th Place, 2B0T: 11 FN’F Score (2026) 9 ep.

Spybot! noooooo, my precious little baby boy was gunned down way too soon. I love this meniacle little gremlin so much. He’s a dastardly droid who disables comms and kills troopers for fun. I have no idea how he found Maul, but these two are a perfect pair. His death will never be forgotten. I want an entire series around this lil guy just wreaking havoc. What a sight to behold.

5th Place, Devon Izara: 13 FN’F Score (2026) 10 ep.

Devon is an interesting character. From the moment she was introduced, I knew she would be seduced by the dark side. I was not expecting the way Maul did this, though. Usually, you see death and pain, yes, but you do not see the ideals and goals reflected in the decision. Maul not only offered her power but, more importantly, a different way of living. Instead of hiding, Devon could be fighting for what she believes. She was trained in the Clone Wars, and the glory was stripped from her. Of course, this impacted her character and made her question her place in the galaxy.

I also love the visual of a Twi'lek Sith Lord. This character in the comics was the first to come to mind when Devon was introduced, and I think that if she adopted Maul’s face tattoos, this would be the final evolution at the end of season two. Either that, or the more boring ending where she turns back to the light side. Please keep her a villain!

4th Place, Captain Lawson: 13 FN’F Score (2026) 10 ep.

Lawson is a straight-up detective thrown into the Star Wars Universe. He does his best to hold down his planet without involving the Empire, but Maul wields too much influence. Part of me believes that it would have been better for Lawson to accept Maul’s deal, but Lawson’s morals were too strong. He is a pretty good shot with a gun, too, but most of his feats are just taking out troopers. I’m curious to see how his relationship with his wife will unfold in season two, because we all know this guy isn’t dead.

Get 20% off for 1 year

3rd Place, Eeko-Dio Daki: 15 FN’F Score (2026) 10 ep.

When it comes to his score, at least he got screen time. A lot of other Jedi from the Clone Wars era would kill for that episode count.

2nd Place, Savage Opress: 41 FN’F Score (2011-2026) 11 ep.

Savage Opress has a crazy backstory that all starts with Dooku and Sidious. See, Palpatine was getting a little concerned that Ventress was getting too strong, so he made Dooku get rid of her and find a new apprentice. However, Ventress will not go that quietly and turned around and created a double agent in Savage. Savage was granted powers by the sisterhood and transformed like Steve Rogers in the Avengers. Now that Savage was physically a beast, he began his journey to learn the force. Yet before he could even be trained, Dooku sent him on a mission, and Savage killed two Jedi without the Force and without a lightsaber. With his massive strength, Ventriss and Dooku turned on him, and all three began fighting, leading him to Maul.

These two began ruling the underworld after they got the better of Anakin and Obi-Wan. Unfortunately, he grew so powerful that Sidious sensed their presence and snuffed out Savage before he could reach his true potential. It sucks that you were so strong that they sent the final boss after you before you could even be properly trained. It is no wonder he scored as high as he did; this man was a monster.

1st Place, Maul: 89 FN’F Score (1996-2026) 2 Movies, 33 ep.

We go into great depths about Darth Maul in the podcast, so please check out our deep dive there! Condensing all that discussion, I have to say Maul is the most thoroughly explored character in the Star Wars Universe. He has so many highs and lows that it is mind-boggling that he is still around.

He was Palpatine’s right-hand man. Then cut in half. Then he went crazy and had mechanical cyber legs. He was brought back, had his mind restored by the Dothraki, gained a new apprentice, and created an empire that rivaled Sidious’s. He became the leader of an entire planet and creed, and the only thing that could stop him was the big bad of the entire series paying him a visit! After that, he had nothing again and is now clawing his way out of the dirt once more with a new padawan. Maul is tenacity incarnate, and I hope he is never defeated because I love it when he rears his nasty little head. He deserves every point he got, and I hope he can break the 100 barrier.

Score Update: +2 FN’F Score

We also have a quick check-in with Vader this season, and he bags himself an additional 2 Feats. His score is already impressive, but I know Vader would want all the credit he can get. I don’t wanna get force choked over here!

FN’F Reviews:

Maul Shadow Lord Season 1: 8/10

Maul is a beautiful show with fun action and a fantastic addition to Star Wars lore, leaving you wanting more. I can not wait for the final season and to hear my and thoughts on the show. Please listen to the DSHRD Podcast and subscribe to both for more Star Wars news and discussions.

Happy Force of July!

Welcome, young padawans, to the first of our five special-edition Star Wars posts! This week, we will dive into the world of Mandalor and analyze its prodigal sons, Din Djarin and Grogu. We will also be taking a look at the colorful characters that have crossed their paths. It is hard to believe that it has already been seven years since The Mandalorian was released, and since then, we have been introduced to an entirely new creed and cast of characters. Rotta the Hutt, The Armorer, Cobb Vanth, Greef Karga, Colonel Wars, Carson Teva, Kuiil, Paz Vizsla, and IG-11. Who do you think will make it into the top 5? Let me know in the comments, and no peeking!

I was also honored to be a guest on the Death Star Human Resource Department podcast, where we discussed the Mandalorian and, of course, Darth Jar Jar. If you are not familiar with ’s work, please go check out his page and share some love.

P.S. I forgot to add Greef Karga, which is a huge blunder on my part, and why it is not discussed in the podcast. I sincerely apologize to Carl Weathers. What a fantastic actor. Rest in Peace.

“This is the Substack you are looking for!”

Let’s Get Started!

Share

12th Place, Carson Teva: 1 FN’F Score (2020-2026) 1 Movie, 8 ep.

Carson Teva showed promise in the beginning. He was showing up in all of Filoni’s live-action projects and was the glue that connected all of them. However, he never does much. He shows up, says a line, and then flies away. Wish I could say he does more, but even in The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, he can’t even shoot down one of the droid fighters. What a disappointment.

11th Place, Colonel Ward: 2 FN’F Score (2026) 1 Movie

Can you believe that Sigourney Weaver was in a Star Wars movie, and I barely heard any press about it, and barely saw any marketing material around her! If we went back 10-20 years, every nerd would have been losing their mind about this casting.

Unfortunately, they do not give Colonel Ward anything to do! What a missed opportunity. Her delivery is flat and stale, and her part in the plot is lackluster, consisting of exposition. A huge waste of potential and a lackluster score to back it up. Now I have to analyze the Alien V Predator franchise to do Sigourney justice!

10th Place, Kuiil: 7 FN’F Score (2019) 4 ep.

This is the way. The slogan that carried the show’s first season. The marketing loved it, and so did the merch team. Kuiil is the character that makes this happen! Nick Nolte did a fantastic job playing this little Ugnaught. We see this species in the background and in some episodes of The Clone Wars, but this is the first time we get to spend time with them and their culture. This is one of my favorite aspects of Star Wars. Seeing the vastness of the universe, which is unfortunately barely explored. If you ain’t a Skywalker, then your story is usually left untold. Anyway, this little Blurrgh farmer did pretty well for his episode count and left a lasting impression on the franchise.

9th Place, Rotta The Hutt: 8 FN’F Score (2026) 2 Movies

Stinky! That’s right, everyone’s favorite Huttlet has made his grand reentrance into the Star Wars canon. A character that I have not thought about since I was in my teens is back and buffer than ever! Jeez, dude, I had no idea that Hutts could even form muscle. Does his six-pack go the entire way down his tail? How many abs does he even have? I have so many questions, and I hope I see him in a uniform because I have to know what that looks like.

Besides his intimidating physique, Rotta is one of my new favorite characters. I really enjoy watching him move and how unique his fighting style is. However, they should have added more reverb to his voice or had him speak Huttease, because his surfer-bro voice isn’t working. First off, a Hutt speaking Common is shocking as is, but without that guttural growl in the back of the voice, it just feels wrong. I get that they did not want to hide Jeremy Allen White’s voice, but in all honesty, he brought nothing to the part, and I would have much rather heard a voice like Joey Diaz, Ron Perlman, or Chris Sabat give that guttural voice some life.

All that aside, Rotta performed admirably in his second appearance. He proved himself in the fighting pits and deserves his place on our list.

8th Place, Paz Vizsla: 11 FN’F Score (2019-2023) 7 ep.

One of the more memorable Mandalorians from the series is Paz. He is a heavy trooper with a big ol’ gun that should not be messed with. He killed many men, went to save his son, and even challenged Mando for the Dark Saber. In the end, he fell a little short, and so did his score when compared to the other Mandalorians of the series. Still, that armor is really cool.

7th Place, Cobb Vanth: 11 FN’F Score (2020-2022) 4 ep.

Cobb Vanth tied with Paz but one with the tiebreaker. He ended up with Boba Fett’s armor and put it to good use. He protected his town and even helped Mando fight the Krayt Dragon. He was a valuable ally and a good Marshal.

6th Place, Armorer: 16 FN’F Score (2019-2023) 9 ep.

We may have never seen the face of The Armorer, but she was the head of the clan that the Mandalorian is a part of. She is a no-nonsense, stick to rhetoric rules kinda gal, and if you get in her way, you’ll get your head caved in with her smithing hammer. A score of 16 is pretty impressive for only 9 episodes, especially since she was rarely the focus in any of them.

5th Place, Greef Karga: 19 FN’F Score (2019-2023) 10 ep.

I love me some Carl Weathers. I recently stumbled upon Street Justice, the complete series, at a thrift store, and can’t wait to give it a watch. A young Carl Weathers stars in it with the writers of the A-Team. Sounds like a forgotten classic to me. What was I talking about again? Oh, right, Star Wars!

Greef Karga was basically Mando’s bookie and handled all of the bounties. He found himself as High Magistrate and brought his run-down town up from the ashes! From Bounty Broker to a High Magistrate. What an underdog story!

4th Place, IG-11: 22 FN’F Score (2019) 3 ep.

As a child, I was obsessed with IG-88. I thought the idea of a bounty-hunting droid was the coolest thing. I know I grew up with the prequels, but I always watched the originals. Seeing 3PO and R2 but imagining them as killing machines is unthinkable. Yes, yes, I know there are weird Sith versions in the comics, but I’m not super familiar with them. Maybe could enlighten us on these guys?

All I had was IG-88, the most bad-ass droid in the galaxy. While this is not 88, it is still an IG droid, and I feel like there is not much difference between their programming. IG-11 kicks butt; however, his corpse is in the show more than when he is alive, so how good is he actually? IG-88 could take him!

3rd Place, Grogu: 25 FN’F Score (2019-2026) 1 Movie 23 ep.

Grogu is the cutest and most marketable aspect of the current era of Star Wars. They hit a gold mine with this character, and I am shocked that it was not leaked before his reveal in episode one of The Mandalorian. Back in those days, there was no merch or advertising around this little guy. It seemed like Disney was caught off guard by the success, but I have to give credit to Filoni and Favreau. It created a fantastic moment and created a momentum that is still pushing forward today.

As a character, Grogu is a mystery. No one knows what species Grogu, Yoda, or Yaddle are, and that is ok. I am fine with there being a little mystery in Star Wars, and I hope it stays that way. Grogu has also developed a lot over the years. Not his character per se, but in his fighting ability. He survived Order 66, was trained by Ahsoka and Luke, and then taught the ways of the Mandalorians by Din. That is an insane line of masters, and Grogu has started flexing his muscles. He has used the force to stop flames and heal the sick. It is a perfect mix of what the force is capable of in the hands of one who is strong in the force but not a master of it. I wonder what Grogu will be like in the future, and whether they will ever age him up to the point where he can speak. I also worry that his talking may ruin the character. Especially if they have him use backward speech like Yoda. I don’t know how I would take that.

Grogu’s score is nothing to write home about. A 25 is pretty low for the amount of screen time he has had, but he did lose a lot of points for literally eating babies from a sentient species! Bad Baby!

2nd Place, Cara Dune: 38 FN’F Score (2019-2020) 7 ep.

Cara Dune is the surprise of the feed! I took off guard with this placement, but when you look at the scores, she deserved it. She did a lot of killing and sniping during her tenure. Seven episodes and hitting the thirties is fantastic! What a run. I may love Gina Carano; she is on my hall pass list, but I swear I was not biased. If I ever do get biased, then what is the point of this system anyway?! She became the marshal and saved her town. She’s a badass, and I hope to see her in the Star Wars universe soon.

1st Place, Din Djarin: 155 FN’F Score (2019-2026) 1 Movie 27 ep.

Din Djarin, the Mandalorian himself, is the star of the show. He was able to not only break the hundreds barrier but slammed half way through it! The guy killed a Krayt Dragon! I view Mando as a mix between John Wick and The Man With No Name. He is quiet, serious, compassionate, but try to see what is under that helm, and he turns deadly. I’d like to see him and Han have a shoot-out to decide who has the fastest draw in the galaxy. Han Shot First! You can “Maclunkey” all you want, but you’ll never be able to convince me otherwise.

Mando has a soft side to himself as well. Din was a foundingling himself when his bounty hunting led him to Grogu; he turned into putty in those little green hands. Grogu was adopted and became a Mandalorian shortly after, though he never hides his face, so I’m not sure how he’s following the creed. Anyway, Mando kicked butt, redeemed himself, and became a true Mandalorian.

FN’F Review:

The Mandalorian: 7/10

The Mandalorian is a fantastic series that starts out strong but loses its footing as it goes along. It is no Andor, but that first season is some of the best Star Wars content out there. I appreciated the original format where each episode was a standalone adventure with very little tying it together. It is a type of show I feel is missing from culture now, as everything has to be some grand adventure that spans multiple episodes. The original Western feel tied together perfectly with the universe and format. Unfortunately, perfection can’t last, and the show got bogged down in set-ups for future shows, callbacks to the animated shows, and main plot developments were hidden during the back half of another show! What were they thinking? Not only did this create a confusing timeline for Mando, but it also betrayed Boba Fett fans and took away what might have been his one shot at a project of his own. Season One is a 9/10, but the following seasons bring it down a tad.

The Mandalorian and Grogu: 5/10

I appreciate the number of creatures and puppets in these movies. Practical effects are the bread and butter of Star Wars, and there were so many techniques utilized in this gorgeous film. Stop-motion was even used to film those two giant droids that protected the twins' lair. What a wonderful sequence. The soundtrack also does a lot of heavy listening, but unfortunately, that is the only saving grace of this movie. The plot really feels like two two-part episodes, and it does the film no favors. Halfway through, I had to ask my wife if it was over. The plot was so thin. Everything was predictable, and there were no twists, surprises, or stakes to the movie. Mando and Grogu never grow, and they end where they began. There are some heartfelt moments in the jungle and some fun action, but nothing memorable or revolutionary. It really is a shame. This was not the Star Wars movie experience that Disney was expecting. I hate to say it, but it may not be my least favorite Star Wars film, but it’s way down there.

Thanks for tuning into our first of five Star Wars specials to celebrate the Force of July! I hope to see you all next Thursday as we continue our journey through the galaxy far, far away.

Until Next Time!

The Dirty Pair .... Ahem.... I mean, Lovely Angels is a gun-for-hire group known as Trouble Consultants that travels the universe, completing jobs for the WWWA. Their crew of four members includes: Kei, the rough-around-the-edges beauty who is not afraid to throw the first punch; Yuri, the elegant and cunning tactician; Mughi, the team’s mascot and backup; and Nanmo, the droid technician. How will this intergalactic A-Team score, and will they be on Vader’s shortlist of multiversal hired guns?

Let’s Get Started!

4th Place, Nanmo: -3 FN’F Score (1985-1988) 1 Movie, 7 ep.

Nanmo is the cutest little droid. I love watching those giant red shoes plomb their way across the hull of a spaceship. While the little guy is prevalent in the early days of the series, he inexplicably disappears as the series goes on. It is never clear what happens to the lil fella, but he does reappear for the movies.

His score is pretty disappointing. He does the generic things you would expect a robot to do, but it is his one fault that drags him down to the negatives. Sure, he saves the crew on multiple occasions and even saves Mughi from being sacrificed by super smart mice, but the lil guy blew up an entire populated planet by accident! The core was made of an extremely explosive material, and laser weapons were prohibited. Then, as they completed the mission and were flying away, Kei gave him a pat on the back, and Poor Nanmo got so surprised that he shot a laser blast at the planet. This started a chain reaction that blew up the planet and killed millions: Oof, not a great resume builder.

3rd Place, Mughi: 14 FN’F Score (1985-1989) 3 Movies, 34 ep.

Mughi is an adorable giant feline alien that acts like the Chewbacca of the group. Mughi may not be able to speak, but he can understand the spoken language and is smart enough to fly the Lovely Angel or repair Nanmo when needed. While Mughi is adorable, he is terrifying to anyone he is trying to capture. I mean, if I saw a cat twice my size, I would be terrified, too. Who am I kidding? I would die while trying to cuddle the giant furball.

Mughi did ok for himself when it comes to his FN’F Score. He did some light maintenance on the ship and Nanmo, but his greatest feat was destroying a group of tanks and saving Kei and Yuri when they were pinned down. He saved their lives that day!

2nd Place, Yuri: 101 FN’F Score (1985-1989) 3 Movies, 36 ep.

Yuri is the other half of the duo known as the Dirty Pair, but if you ever call them that, you’ll be sorry. Kei and Yuri go by the moniker Lovely Angels. Yuri is the elegant and girly member of the team. She is more obsessed with her figure, make-up, and general appearance than the other members. Yuri is always on a date, but don’t let that fragile demeanor fool you. As soon as the action begins or you get on her bad side, the martial arts master comes out. She can beat anyone up without a weapon, but put a gun or her whip in her hands, and she can take down entire starships on her own. While agility is an important tool in her kit, it is her strategic mind that really makes her a threat.

Speaking of threats, Yuri broke the coveted 100 barrier. This is a threshold that has defeated many other prominent characters, like Daenerys Targaryen from GOT and James Braddock from MIA. These two badasses stumbled at the finish line, but Yuri was able to somersault past.

If we look at her top Feats, we see no planetary or universal achievements. This means that, much like John Wick, Yuri fought her way past 100 through individual and group feats. Her greatest feat was saving an entire city by crashing a space cruiser before it could hit the populated area. Did she cause some collateral damage? Of course, she did; she is a member of the Lovely Angels, but those faults, while considerable, were still unable to take her out of the hundreds. She caused an entire planet to be covered in deadly storms, destroyed skyscrapers, and even caused the odd political crisis here and there. But hey, when you are trying to get the job done, you can’t let these trivial matters stand in your way.

1st Place, Kei: 102 FN’F Score (1985-1989) 3 Movies, 36 ep.

Kei is my favorite of the two. She is brash and quick to act, letting the thinking fall to her partner. She’s the muscle backing up the notoriety the duo has earned over the years. While she is not as concerned with her looks as Yuri, she is not afraid to use her feminine wiles to get one over on the clueless men of the series.

The animators had to have a fun time animating Kei because they gave her all the cool feats. I mean, she killed a man by punching his open mouth with electrified brass knuckles. Can you imagine getting volts directly to the back of your throat? What a way to go. She also solved 800 murders, killed over a thousand people, and stopped an entire dangerous species from being reborn.

When we look at the scores of the top two, we see that Kei and Yuri are only separated by one point. It is stats like these that make me fall in love with my system all over again. I have zero bias when it comes to calculating and recording the strengths and weaknesses of characters. Yet, situations like these keep popping up. The writers did not have my system in mind when writing these characters, yet they still scored practically the same! Even in Feats N’ Faults, this duo is inseparable.

Feats N’ Faults Reviews:

Dirty Pair: 9/10

I was not familiar with this series until I had the opportunity to buy the entire collection on DVD. I am obsessed with collecting physical media and could not let this go. I am so happy that I did because I fell in love with the series from the beginning.

One thing that sticks out to me is how progressive this series was, especially for the 80’s. I am by no means an expert on Japanese culture, but it seemed so forward-thinking for the time. While it is obvious that the animation was designed and intended for the male gaze, the plots and dialogue are anything but. It pushes feminist ideals, unions, and even tackles issues like trans representation and persecution.

While it is by no means a referendum on societal issues, it does seem to go beyond what was considered acceptable at the time. This touch is something I appreciate, as I hope we can get past these petty discussions and move toward a more united and kind society.

The original series, Project Eden, and Flight 005 Conspiracy are peak viewing experiences. If you want to sense these characters, I would recommend Flight 005, as it is a truly engaging mystery, while Project Eden is a fantastic, campy journey with real alien-horror elements. The OVA series is still good, but it is not as consistent as the original series. The worst of the bunch is the movie Affair of Nolandia. That movie turned out to be boring fan service with a bit of psychological horror. The pair never does much and mostly plays in a jungle. I’d recommend skipping that one, but everything else is fantastic and a must-watch for anime fans.

Recommendations:

• Project Eden / Flight 005 Conspiracy (Really must watch movies, the villain has a theme song, guys! I repeat a theme song!)

• Love is Everything. Risk Your Life to Elope!! S1:ep7

• Hire Us! Beautiful Bodyguards are a Better Deal S1:ep9
