It has been a mixed week across Fulham FC. The men’s team exited the Carabao Cup before earning a point at Aston Villa. Fulham Women won on penalties against Portsmouth, while the Under-18s played out a six-goal thriller against Southampton.

Fulham made a slow start as Aston Villa controlled much of the opening period. The hosts looked dangerous from set-pieces, with Leon Goretzka threatening from corners as Villa searched for an early breakthrough.

Their biggest opportunity came when Sander Berge was penalised for handball following a VAR review. John McGinn stepped up to take the resulting penalty, but his powerful effort struck the crossbar, giving Fulham a reprieve.

Fulham looked capable of causing problems on the counter-attack. Oscar Bobb came close to opening the scoring after a quick break, only for Suzuki to produce an excellent one-handed save.

However, Villa eventually took the lead in the 39th minute. Johan Manzambi played Nicolas Jackson through on goal, and the striker worked his way past the Fulham defence before finishing beyond Bernd Leno.

It was a disappointing goal to concede. Fulham struggled to contain Jackson once he received the ball, and Villa went into half-time with the advantage.

The second half was a different story. Fulham played with greater aggression and purpose, putting Villa under sustained pressure and creating several opportunities to equalise.

Antonee Robinson delivered a dangerous ball across the six-yard box shortly after the restart, with Gonzalo García unable to turn it into the net. Shea Charles also came close as Fulham began to find more space around the Villa penalty area.

The visitors continued to push forward, and Alex Iwobi forced Suzuki into a save with a header from close range. García then saw his follow-up effort deflected behind.

Fulham were creating enough chances to suggest an equaliser was coming. They were moving the ball more quickly, winning second balls and making life considerably more difficult for Unai Emery’s side.

Their persistence paid off in the 65th minute. Iwobi delivered a corner into the six-yard box, and Suzuki failed to hold the ball as it slipped through his hands and crossed the goal line.

It was a major error from the Villa goalkeeper, but Fulham had earned the opportunity through their improved second-half performance.

The equaliser gave Fulham renewed confidence, and the game opened up as both teams searched for a winner.

Fulham continued to threaten, with Iwobi seeing another effort deflected behind. They looked much more comfortable going forward than they had during the first half, although Villa remained dangerous whenever they found space.

As the game approached its conclusion, the hosts increased the pressure. Pau Torres headed wide late on, while Fulham had to remain organised to prevent Villa from finding a decisive second goal.

Neither side could find a winner, and the points were shared.

Fulham travel to Villa Park today looking to make it three consecutive Premier League victories. Álvaro Arbeloa’s side have given themselves a much-needed boost with narrow wins over Hull City and Coventry City, but Aston Villa will provide a tougher test.

Both teams will be looking to put their Carabao Cup exits behind them. Fulham lost 1-0 at home to Crystal Palace on Wednesday, while Villa suffered a 3-0 defeat away to Bournemouth. With both sides now turning their attention back to the league, there is plenty at stake.

Fulham’s start to the season was far from ideal. After going six Premier League games without a win, pressure was beginning to build on Arbeloa. However, consecutive 1-0 victories against Hull and Coventry have given the team some momentum.

The win at Coventry was particularly important. Oscar Bobb scored the winner ten minutes from time, securing three valuable points away from home.

There are still areas that need improvement, though. The defeat against Crystal Palace showed that Fulham must become more clinical in front of goal. Despite creating several good chances, they failed to score and were eliminated from the cup.

Villa Park will be a difficult place to put that right. Fulham have struggled away from home in 2026, and they have not won at Villa Park since April 2014. However, their recent league performances give them a reason to believe they can make this a competitive contest.

Aston Villa have also experienced a change in fortunes. Unai Emery’s side endured a difficult opening to the campaign but have recently picked up important victories against Newcastle United and Manchester City.

Their 2-1 victory over Manchester City was particularly impressive. Nicolas Jackson scored twice as Villa became the first team to beat the league leaders this season. Those results have helped Villa climb the table, and they will be looking to make it three league wins in a row on Saturday.

Villa’s midweek defeat to Bournemouth should not be ignored, but Emery made significant changes to his starting eleven. A much stronger side is expected to return for the Fulham match.

Emery also has an excellent record against Fulham, having won eight of his nine Premier League meetings with the club. That is a worrying statistic for the travelling supporters, particularly given Villa’s strong home record in this fixture.

Team News

Fulham will be without Ryan Sessegnon, who is serving the final match of his three-game suspension. Antonee Robinson is therefore expected to continue at left-back.

David Affengruber and Emile Smith Rowe missed the Crystal Palace match, but reports ahead of Saturday suggest both could be available. Their availability would give Arbeloa additional options as Fulham prepare for a difficult away fixture.

For Aston Villa, Amadou Onana remains a long-term absentee, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Matteo Ruggeri are also expected to miss out through injury.

Villa are likely to bring several regular starters back into the side following their midweek rotation. Jackson, who has scored four goals in his last four Premier League appearances, will be one of Fulham’s main threats.

This is a significant test of Fulham’s recent progress. Beating Hull and Coventry was important, but facing a Villa side that has just beaten Manchester City is a different challenge.

Fulham have enough quality to cause problems, especially if Bobb and King can find space in attack. However, Villa’s home record, recent league form and Jackson’s scoring run make them difficult opponents.

I expect Fulham to compete, but they will need to be clinical to take anything from Birmingham.

Prediction: Aston Villa 1-1 Fulham.

Fulham’s Carabao Cup campaign has come to an end after a frustrating 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage.

Fulham controlled much of the game, created several good opportunities and had enough chances to win the tie. However, poor finishing and another costly defensive lapse meant we were left with nothing.

There is no need to pretend Fulham were completely outplayed. They weren’t. But there is also no escaping the fact that we failed to do enough in the areas that mattered most.

Fulham started the brighter side and should have taken the lead during a promising spell in the first half. Kenny Tete headed wide from an Alex Iwobi corner before Antonee Robinson forced a good save from Dean Henderson, who returned to the Palace side after injury. Joachim Andersen also had an opportunity from a set-piece but headed over.

These were the kind of chances Fulham needed to take against a Palace side prepared to defend deep and frustrate the hosts. We had the territory, the possession and the opportunities, but none of that counted for much without a goal.

The warning signs were there. Fulham were doing enough to create openings but not enough to punish their opponents.

Then came the moment that decided the game.

In the 37th minute, Oscar Mingueza found space down the right and delivered an excellent cross into the penalty area. Eddie Nketiah made his run towards the near post and flicked the ball beyond Benjamin Lecomte to give Palace the lead.

It was a well-taken goal, and credit must go to the Palace players for executing the move. However, from Fulham’s perspective, it was another reminder of how quickly a game can turn when you fail to manage the defensive side of your performance.

Palace had offered relatively little going forward before the goal, yet they went into half-time ahead. Fulham had spent much of the first half on the front foot and were suddenly chasing the game.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Fulham had more of the ball and continued searching for an equaliser, but Palace defended their penalty area well and made life difficult for the hosts.

Rodrigo Muniz tested Henderson with a shot from distance, while Tom Cairney saw an effort blocked after coming off the bench. Iwobi then came close from a corner, only for Henderson to produce an excellent close-range save.

The statistics show just how frustrating the result was. Fulham enjoyed 74% possession, registered 14 shots and won nine corners. Palace managed only four shots and had no corners. Yet the visitors scored the only goal of the night.

Those numbers demonstrate Fulham’s control of the ball, but they also highlight the problem. Possession is only useful when you do something meaningful with it. Palace were comfortable defending their space, and Fulham struggled to find the quicker combinations, runs in behind and quality in the final pass needed to break them down.

Arbeloa acknowledged that problem after the game, explaining that Fulham needed to move the ball quicker, make more runs and create more chances in wide areas. His assessment was fair. Against a team sitting deep, moving the ball from side to side without creating enough danger makes the defending side’s job easier.

I personally had a few questions about the line up with our hero and defensive mastermind David Affengruber not even in the squad. I wouldn't call our line up weak it had potential but it wasn't the strongest 11 like Arbeloa said he would play

Anyway the is cup over and it’s on to playing Aston Villa on Saturday.

Fulham return to Craven Cottage tonight for a London derby against Crystal Palace in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. With a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs.

I think it is fair to say that the last few weeks have tested Fulham supporters. Our difficult start to the season left plenty of questions about where we were heading, and there were moments when it was hard to see how things would improve.

However, football can change quickly. Back-to-back 1-0 Premier League victories over Hull City and Coventry City have given us something to build on, while our 3-2 win away to West Ham United in the previous round showed that we can produce results in this competition too.

Now, we have another chance to make progress.

Crystal Palace arrive in West London under pressure. Pierre Sage’s side have struggled for consistency, losing five of their last eight Premier League matches. Their recent defeats include a 5-0 loss to Brighton and a 2-0 home defeat against Newcastle United. Naturally, that gives us some reason to be optimistic, but I would be careful about reading too much into their recent form.

Palace have already beaten us at Craven Cottage this season, winning 3-2 in the Premier League on 5 September. They have also won four of the last five meetings between the sides.

Arbeloa has indicated that he intends to take the competition seriously and select a strong side, despite the busy schedule.

We have Aston Villa to think about on Saturday, so there is a balance to strike between progressing in the cup and keeping players fresh. Still, I would rather see us give this tie a proper go than look back and wonder what might have happened if we had taken it more seriously.

Ryan Sessegnon is suspended, while Arbeloa has confirmed that Rodrigo Muniz will start.

The visitors have their own selection concerns. Chadi Riad, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Quinten Timber have been reported as unavailable through injury, while Jørgen Strand Larsen, Ismaïla Sarr and goalkeeper Dean Henderson face fitness assessments.

I know cup football can be unpredictable but there is no reason why we cannot win this game. We have shown some improvement recently, and now we need to carry that into a match that could give our season another positive moment.

My prediction: Fulham 3-1 Crystal Palace.

Fulham made it two Premier League wins in a row after Oscar Bobb’s late winner secured a 1-0 victory away.

After beating Hull City last weekend, Álvaro Arbeloa’s side travelled away looking to build on their first league win of the season. They did exactly that, although they had to wait until the 80th minute to find the breakthrough.

Fulham started positively and nearly took the lead when Josh King struck the post with a fierce effort from inside the box.

Coventry struggled to seriously test Bernd Leno, but the game remained close. Fulham also had a penalty appeal reviewed by VAR before half-time after Calvin Bassey went down during a corner. No penalty was awarded.

With the game heading towards a draw, Bobb produced the moment of quality Fulham needed. The Norwegian winger drove into the box, worked space for himself and curled a brilliant finish into the far corner. King provided the assist as Fulham finally turned their control into a goal.

Coventry tried to respond, but Fulham held firm to secure another clean sheet and three valuable points.

The result moves Fulham up to 12th in the Premier League, giving Arbeloa some breathing room after a difficult start to the campaign. Two consecutive wins have changed the mood around the club, with the team now showing signs of finding their feet.

Oscar Bobb made the difference when it mattered. Fulham now have momentum to build on.

Fulham travel to Coventry City this afternoon looking to build on their first Premier League win of the season. After beating Hull City 1-0, Álvaro Arbeloa’s side have a chance to put together some much-needed momentum.

Coventry will be no easy opponent, though. Frank Lampard’s side beat Nottingham Forest and Newcastle before losing 3-1 to Tottenham last time out. They sit just one point above Fulham, making this a big game for both clubs.

Fulham dominated against Hull, controlling possession and limiting their opponents to very little. The challenge now is turning that control into goals more consistently, especially away from home, where results have been a problem.

Ryan Sessegnon is suspended following his red card against Hull, but Hugo Larsson and Emile Smith Rowe are in contention after recovering from knocks. Coventry remain without Josh Eccles, Luke Woolfenden, Haji Wright and Aurèle Amenda.

For me, this is a game Fulham need to approach with confidence. We have shown signs of good football despite our position in the table, but we need to start turning performances into points. Another win would give Arbeloa’s side something to build on.

My prediction: Coventry 1-2 Fulham.

It has been a week of mixed emotions for Fulham supporters, but Yesterdays 1-0 victory over Hull City provided a much-needed positive ending.

Fulham have finally got their first Premier League win of the season after beating Hull City 1-0 at the Cottage. Alex Iwobi scored the only goal of the game, ending a difficult run for Álvaro Arbeloa and lifting Fulham out of the relegation zone.

Fulham started brightly and looked the more dangerous side throughout the opening half. They created several opportunities and eventually found the breakthrough in the 33rd minute. Sander Berge helped set up the attack before Iwobi’s effort slipped through Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis and into the net.

Fulham continued to threaten after the break. Josh King was denied by Tzolakis, while Iwobi came close to adding a second. The visitors struggled to create much going forward, allowing Fulham to remain in control for long periods.

The hosts had a golden opportunity to put the game beyond doubt in the 74th minute. Iwobi delivered an excellent cross for Gonzalo García, whose header struck the crossbar. It was a frustrating miss because Fulham should have been able to make the final stages far more comfortable.

Instead, the closing minutes became nervy. Ryan Sessegnon was sent off in stoppage time following a late challenge on Hull substitute Robinio Vaz, leaving Fulham to finish the match with ten men.

Hull tried to take advantage, but Mohamed Belloumi sent a late free-kick over the bar. Fulham held on to secure three points that felt significant after such a difficult opening to the season.

The result gives Arbeloa some breathing space, but there is still plenty to improve. Fulham showed greater attacking intent and created enough chances to win by a bigger margin. Their inability to score a second goal nearly made the finish much harder than necessary.

Iwobi was the decisive figure, while Berge played an important role in the opening goal. There were encouraging signs from the attack, but Fulham need to become more clinical if they want to move further up the table.

Sessegnon’s red card was an unnecessary negative on an otherwise positive afternoon. Fulham will also need to make sure this performance becomes a starting point rather than an isolated result.

For now, the most important thing is the three points. Arbeloa has his first league win, Fulham have moved out of the relegation zone, and the squad has something positive to build on.

Full-time: Fulham 1-0 Hull City

Goal: Alex Iwobi 33’

Red card: Ryan Sessegnon 90+4’

Fulham needed a win, and they got one. The challenge now is to follow it up.

Fulham are in desperate need of three points. After six league games, two points leave Álvaro Arbeloa’s side bottom of the table. The late defeat to Ipswich last weekend was more than frustrating, leaving many fans questioning if Arbeloa is the right man for the job.

Hull will not make it easy. They have collected nine points from their opening six matches and sit eighth in the table.

For me, it’s simple. Fulham need to be more clinical, defend leads and show the urgency expected of a team fighting for the three points.

Hugo Larsson is in doubt due to a groin injury, but other than that, Arbeloa has a full and fit squad to pick from.

Arbeloa has said he wants everybody to keep believing and stay true to their ideas.

He also said: “The players are looking for their reward and for the game where they can get a win for our supporters. They deserve it because of their support. The only thing we are thinking about is to get the victory for them.”

My prediction: Fulham 2-1 Hull City.

What is your prediction? Let me know in the comments.

Fulham might only have 2 points from their opening 5 matches, but do the underlying numbers tell a different story?

In this video, we break down Fulham’s surprising Premier League stats so far this season—including their impressive 158 touches in the opposition box, Josh King leading the league with 30 touches, and covering an incredible 118.9 km per game.

Fulham have somehow found another way to lose points late in a match. After taking the lead against Ipswich through Ryan Sessegnon, we looked on course for their first Premier League win under Álvaro Arbeloa. Instead, two goals in the closing stages turned a promising afternoon into another damaging defeat, leaving Fulham still searching for a league victory after six matches.

The first half was fairly quiet, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances. Fulham enjoyed spells of possession but lacked the cutting edge needed to turn their control into goals. Gonzalo García had a promising opportunity before the break, but his effort went wide, leaving the teams level at half-time.

The match finally came to life i the 55tnh minute. Sessegnon collected the ball and fired a superb effort from around 25 yards into the net, giving Fulham the lead. It was an excellent finish and the sort of moment which looked capable of changing the mood around the club.

Fulham had opportunities to make the game safe. Oscar Bobb and García both missed big chances, and those misses came back to haunt us as Ipswich remained within touching distance, and the longer the game went on, the more important it became for Fulham to find a second goal or manage their advantage properly.

Then came the collapse. In the 88th minute, Abdoul Ouattara produced a stunning long-range strike to bring Ipswich level. Fulham had been just minutes away from three points, but suddenly they were under pressure to protect even a draw.

They failed to do so. In the first minute of stoppage time, Ipswich captain Dara O’Shea rose to meet Jack Clarke’s free-kick and headed home the winner. Portman Road erupted, while Fulham were left to deal with another late setback.

There were positives in Fulham’s performance. They had 52.3% possession, registered 13 shots and finished with a higher expected goals figure than Ipswich, 1.81 to 1.15. Those numbers suggest the visitors created enough opportunities to get something from the game, but their finishing and late defending let them down.

Sessegnon deserves credit for his goal, and Fulham showed spells of promising attacking play. Yet it is difficult to ignore the bigger picture. This was a match they had in their hands, and they left with nothing.

Arbeloa now faces serious questions about how his team manages the closing stages of games. Fulham have taken points from Liverpool and Manchester United in recent weeks, but performances need to produce victories if the season is going to move in the right direction.

There is no point pretending this defeat was anything other than a major disappointment. Fulham were minutes away from a win and ended up losing. The response in the next match matters, but the same mistakes cannot keep happening.

Fulham return to Premier League action today with a trip to Ipswich Town, knowing the importance of turning their recent performances into something more valuable. Two points from their opening five league games is a disappointing return, especially when there have been signs of improvement under Álvaro Arbeloa. The challenge now is to start winning games, rather than leaving the pitch wondering what might have been.

The international break has given Arbeloa additional time to work with the players who remained at the club, while those away with their countries will have had different demands on their fitness. Fulham’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United before the break offered encouragement, but another dropped opportunity would leave them under increasing pressure. This is the sort of fixture where Fulham need to show they are capable of controlling a game and getting the result their performances deserve.

Ipswich Will Not Make It Easy

Ipswich have made a better start to the campaign, collecting six points from their opening five matches. Their victories over Sunderland and Crystal Palace have helped them establish themselves in mid-table, despite defeats against Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal. Gary O’Neil’s side have faced some difficult opponents, and their results suggest they should not be underestimated simply because Fulham have a stronger recent Premier League record between the clubs.

O’Neil has also tried to maintain a positive atmosphere around the squad, even after difficult results. That attitude matters for a team trying to establish itself in the division, particularly when confidence might otherwise be affected by defeats against stronger opposition. Fulham should expect a competitive afternoon at Portman Road, where Ipswich will be looking to make their home advantage count.

There is an opportunity here for Fulham, though. Ipswich have shown they are capable of taking points from teams around them, but they have also lost three of their opening five matches. If Fulham move the ball quickly, create chances between the lines and avoid giving away possession in dangerous areas, they have enough attacking quality to trouble the hosts.

What Fulham Need to Get Right

The first priority is to start well. Fulham have little reason to approach this match with fear, but they need to balance attacking intent with defensive discipline. Conceding early would give Ipswich something to protect and potentially allow the hosts to play with greater confidence. A controlled opening, with Fulham moving the ball confidently and putting pressure on the Ipswich defence, would give Arbeloa’s side a better platform.

Midfield control will also be important. Fulham need to move possession quickly enough to stretch Ipswich, while remaining alert to counter-attacks when attacks break down. The balance between Sander Berge, Shea Charles and the attacking midfielders will help determine whether Fulham dominate the match or allow Ipswich to turn it into a more open contest.

Team news also deserves attention. Tom Cairney is a doubt alongside Jedi. Ipswich are without the suspended Abdul Fatawu, with Jack Taylor also carrying a knee concern. These absences might influence the starting line-ups, but the bigger issue for Fulham is how effectively the available players execute Arbeloa’s plans.

A Chance to Change the Mood

There is a difference between playing well in spells and putting together a performance that wins a football match. Fulham have shown enough in their opening five fixtures to suggest improvement is possible, but two points leave little room for satisfaction. Arbeloa needs his players to turn that promise into something tangible, and an away trip to Ipswich presents a meaningful test.

A win would provide a much-needed lift and give the team something to build on after the international break. It would also reward supporters who have seen signs of progress without receiving the points to match. Another draw or defeat would leave Fulham searching for answers, particularly if the same problems in front of goal return.

Ipswich will believe they have a chance, and their results so far give them reason to do so. Fulham should still travel with the belief that three points are within reach, provided they play with purpose and take their chances. This is an opportunity to make a statement about the direction of the season, rather than another afternoon of frustration.

My Prediction

I expect a competitive game, with Ipswich looking to use their home advantage and Fulham trying to impose their attacking style.

My prediction is Ipswich Town 1-2 Fulham. Fulham have the attacking quality to win this match, but they need to be more clinical and more consistent across the full 90 minutes. Three points would be an important step forward for Arbeloa and his side.

⚪COME ON, FULHAM!⚫

The international break is finally over, and Fulham have a huge opportunity to turn their season around. With a difficult start behind them and a run of games against the promoted sides coming up, what should we expect from Álvaro Arbeloa and his team?

I asked football fans for their thoughts, from the players they want to see step up to the changes they hope Arbeloa makes. Here’s what they had to say.

The international break has not just been about Fulham’s Premier League problems. There have also been some really positive moments for Fulham players away with their countries, and Shea Charles is probably the biggest example.

Charles has had a really interesting start to life at Fulham. He was brought in from Southampton during the summer and has already shown that he can play in a number of different positions, something that could become really useful for Arbeloa.

He is primarily a midfielder, but he has also been used at centre-back and right-back during his career. That sort of versatility could be especially important for Fulham because Arbeloa is still working out exactly how he wants his team to look.

During the international break, Charles produced one of the biggest moments of his young international career by scoring a dramatic winner for Northern Ireland. He then captained Northern Ireland as they moved to the top of their group.

That is a pretty good couple of weeks for the Fulham midfielder.

It is also another reminder that Charles is still developing as a player. He is not someone who has arrived at Craven Cottage as the finished product, but Fulham clearly see something in him and have given him a long-term contract.

I think that long-term view is important. With a new manager coming in and a different style of football being introduced, it is going to take time for some players to fully settle into their roles.

Charles could be one of those players who becomes increasingly important as the season goes on.

He brings athleticism to the midfield and can cover a lot of ground, while his ability to play in different positions gives Arbeloa another option when injuries or suspensions become a problem.

We have already seen how useful squad depth can be during the opening weeks of the season. Fulham have had players unavailable and Arbeloa has had to make changes, so having someone like Charles who can adapt is a big advantage.

The next step is seeing what role he has when everyone is available. That is something I am genuinely interested to see because there are quite a few possibilities.

Could he become one of the main midfielders? Could Arbeloa use him in a defensive role? Could his ability to move between positions become part of the system?

We don’t know yet, and I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. This is still a new Fulham team under a new manager, and players are still finding their places.

What we do know is that Charles has already had some very good moments since joining the club.

His international performances will give him confidence, and hopefully he can bring that back to Fulham when the Premier League returns.

Fulham need more players to step up during this difficult start to the season. Shea Charles has just given us another reason to believe that there are positive things happening underneath the results.

Now let’s see what he can do for Fulham.
