Back from our accidental hiatus, we are fully in Election 2026 mode.
Too much is at stake not to.

So we're chatting with two DFW Organizers to remind you that there is something we ALL can do. No one can do it all, but we all can do something.

In Texas, Something Seismic Is Happening—and It’s All Trump’s Fault

James Talarico may or may not win the Senate race in Texas. But here’s something we can say right now: Given how close Talarico is coming in this red state after running such an overtly pro-immigrant campaign—which Talarico has done on and off from the outset—it should shape how Democrats handle the immigra…

Why Americans Stopped Throwing Dinner Parties

What We’re Watching

Somehow I missed this controversy (and honestly this book) — but now I’m locked in and want to know EVERYTHING!

Hey, why DID the whole country see this ad for Ken Paxton?!

Also, no one has asked her for her opinion. And if you wanna talk about the elephant in the room….why are you, a woman who is trying to get away from this dude, the same man who has embarrassed you all summer (really for years) with his galavants all over the world with his married mistress, doing THIS?!

Just…fascinating.

In This Episode…

We show each other knickknack and the stories behind them. We then discuss patterns that might inform the future, how good Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner was and then we politely crash out by not crashing out about AI slop in political ads and how there’s no such thing as Trump Derangement Syndrome.

He’s the f*cking President, for crying out loud. We gonna talk about him.

But that doesn’t explain why all of them keep blaming Obama and Biden.

(Clap for us).

GPL Presents: Organizers Corner w/ Joey Cade

In This Episode…

sits down with Elaine Campbell who is an Organizer with Planned Parenthood Federation of America AND League of Women Voters Dallas. Both are organizations we care a lot about.

They discuss why organizing and community action is so necessary in our society and in our government, what you can do when you hit roadblocks when voting, and a reminder why truthful participation — regardless if all your needs are met with the nominee — is important.

I mean, if you can’t look around and see that protest voting along with racist voting is what got us here, I don’t know what to tell you.

We keep saying listen to Black Women. Now would be a good time to start implementing that.

I was not able to join them in this discussion because I have to be on set for work. We do this stuff for free, so I gotta work to feed myself!

Enter in your weekly Call To Actions (CTA!) from our Resident Precinct Chair, Joey Cade!

CTA: Be Like Dolly

I’m sure your feed is as Dolly saturated as mine but please indulge me.

Dolly Parton had a real influence on America. Her music, her humor, her work ethic, her unapologetic feminism, her business brain, her generosity, and most of all, her ability to make kindness and generosity feel powerful.

So this week’s political advice is very simple:

Be like Dolly.
Love your neighbor. All of them.

Dolly was a good woman who actually paid attention to what Jesus said about loving your neighbor.

This week:
Do something to welcome and protect immigrants in your community. In Dallas, consider volunteering with Vecinos Unidos. Or donate to HRC and join the next Stonewall Democrats meetup near you. Dallas’s chapter of Stonewall Dems is the largest and oldest LGBTQ Democratic club in Texas. (And they have some of the best merch in the state, too!!)

Lift Up Women

Dolly spent her career opening doors, collaborating with other women, and celebrating their success. She knew that another woman’s success didn’t diminish hers. We all sparkle brighter when we shine together.

As she put it:

This week:
Volunteer and donate to help elect some extraordinary Texas women. Gina Hinojosa for Governor, Vikki Goodwin for Lieutenant Governor, Sarah Eckhardt for Comptroller, or Maggie Ellis for Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court will all be on every ballot in Texas - statewide. It’s up to all of us to make their wins reality.

And while you’re at it, send another woman a little encouragement. Just a text to a friend who works hard and spreads sunshine. We could all use extra Dolly energy right now.

Some of my personal favorite Dolly moments with other women:

Her collaboration with Jane Fonda and Lili Tomlin on 9to5 is one of my all time favorite films. And the story of the 3 women making the film is almost as good as the movie. But nowhere near as good as the pro-worker, pro-woman anthem that is the 9to5 single. I still listen to it all the time.

It was so cool to witness history at the Grammys when Whitney Houston won for singing Dolly’s song “I Will Always Love You”, and Dolly presented the award to her.

I loved her collaborations with Beyonce in recent years.

And only Dolly could’ve produced a g-rated version of Please, Please, Please with Sabrina Carpenter.

Give What You Can

Dolly didn’t just talk about caring for people. She built efforts that helped hundreds of millions of people. Her Imagination Library has given over 300 million free books to children, inspired by her father’s inability to read. She also funded medical research (like the covid vax that saved the world), disaster relief, education, and countless other causes.

Read: How Dolly Parton helped fund Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine at the height of the pandemic

Her philosophy was beautifully simple:

This week:
Give something.

Volunteer at a local nonprofit.
Join a mutual-aid effort.
Help at your local food pantry.
Show up at a community meeting.

Give a few hours to the Dallas County Democratic Party. The weekly Dallas Solidarity Cal is a great place to find ways to impact our community.

Just give/do what you can.

Because that’s the thing about Dolly.

She didn’t wait for somebody else to fix the world.

She used what she had.
Her voice.
Her money.
Her talent.
Her platform.
Her enormous heart.
And she left the world better than she found it.

Read: Dolly Parton’s legacy of giving: Inside her decades of philanthrop

We Can Do That, Too.

So this week, when you’re wondering what to do:

Love your neighbor.
Lift somebody up.
Give what you can.

And when in doubt, remind yourself to be like Dolly.

I think we can all agree she was one of the best Americans.
May she continue to inspire us.

And may the grim reaper take the RIGHT 80yo white person next time…. 1

Hugs, rhinestones, and solidarity, y’all,

Joey ✌🏻

We discuss flock cameras and how we can’t opt out. Then we talk about the now classic and must see film, Minority Report.

Jalon canNOT get over The Great Wigdini escaping in a caterer’s cart, and left his team to die. Or in his words, “If I die, you die.” What a guy.

We talk about the USS Abraham and then we crashed out at how stupid this all is.

And babygirl, it is all stupid.

Citing Our Sources

No Context

This week’s question is:

Think of a random person from your past. What would that person specifically be surprised about your life.

Both Jalon and Joey said that the fact they were in the film industry would be shocking to both of their people.

How Reagan Destroyed the American Middle Class

In 1983, the first year the agency collected comparable numbers, the rate was 20.1 percent. In the private sector, the rate now stands at 5.9 percent.
