Acts 20-21 describes Paul’s last missionary trip before returning to Jerusalem where he was saved by Roman soldiers from rioting Jews who spotted him in the temple. His deliverance would ultimately result in an appeal to Caesar and subsequent journey to Rome. These two chapters include the story of Eutychus, an incident of surprising importance for (again) establishing Paul’s apostolic and prophetic credentials. Lastly, Acts 20-21 provide insight into Paul’s understanding of how his life was a living fulfillment of the reclaiming of the nations set aside by Yahweh at Babel (Deut. 32:8-9).

Michael Heiser bluntly calls the claim that Muhammad is prophesied in the Song of Songs nonsense, arguing that the Hebrew word for “beloved” does not mean “Muhammad,” that classical Arabic developed long after the Old Testament, and that the proposed linguistic connection fails both historically and semantically. He likewise rejects identifying Muhammad as “the Prophet” in John 1:21, explaining that the question alludes to Deuteronomy 18’s promise of a prophet like Moses—an Israelite prophet—making Muhammad an impossible fulfillment because he lived centuries later and was not from Israel. Heiser also says God can still give personal direction through dreams, visions, or encounters, but such experiences cannot contradict Scripture or constitute binding revelation for the whole church; apostolic authority ended with the original apostles, so modern claims to new, church-wide prophetic authority should be rejected

A text being outside the canon does not automatically render it a malicious forgery, just as a New Testament quote from a text does not inherently make that text inspired Scripture.

Dr. Michael Heiser says that the ancient-aliens theory is less a serious historical explanation than a modern religious substitute for God. He begins by attacking its evidentiary foundation: claims about the Anunnaki, Nibiru, and extraterrestrial builders of ancient monuments collapse when checked against primary sources, especially the Sumerian texts, which he says contain no connection between the Anunnaki and Nibiru or alien spacecraft; Zecharia Sitchin’s popular claims, Heiser contends, are fabrications that survive because most people never examine the original tablets. He then explains the deeper appeal of ancient-aliens belief: it offers mystery, purpose, intelligence behind human origins, and a destiny of becoming “like the gods” without requiring moral accountability to the biblical God. From there, Heiser connects UFO spirituality to nineteenth-century occultism, Theosophy, spiritualism, and even strands within Mormonism, arguing that these movements recycle ideas about lost races, hidden knowledge, supernatural visitors, and humanity’s ascent toward divinity. He is skeptical of recent Pentagon-UFO disclosure narratives and suggests that “alien” threats could be used politically to justify militarizing space, while also distinguishing that possibility from the theological question of whether real extraterrestrial life could exist. Heiser says Scripture neither requires nor excludes such life, but he argues that Christianity’s redemption is specifically for humanity through Christ’s incarnation. The conversation then turns to ghosts, Sheol, the afterlife, and the nature of heaven: Heiser distinguishes the human dead from evil spirits, treats 1 Samuel 28 as a genuine but exceptional appearance of Samuel, warns against seeking contact with the dead, and argues that biblical descriptions of heaven use bodily and spatial language because humans need those categories to grasp a non-spatial spiritual reality. He closes by contrasting Christianity with both performance-based religion and systems that deny sin altogether: only Christianity, in his view, says humans are morally helpless and that God personally solves the problem at cost to himself.

From Stonehenge to modern suburbia, this account exposes the occult as a real, enduring, and dangerous spiritual force that has survived and flourished in every age through false religions, strange philosophies, divination, witchcraft, demon possession, and satanic influence. It presents humanity’s search for God and meaning as a search that has too often led people away from the Creator and toward counterfeit spiritual powers: ancient peoples built monuments and practiced sun and moon worship, while Babylon, Baalbek, Egypt, and other civilizations turned to idols, human sacrifice, and rituals intended to reach or control the divine. The Bible’s warnings against stargazers, spell-casters, mediums, fortune-tellers, and those who speak with demons are presented not as outdated prohibitions but as a consistent revelation of a continuing spiritual conflict—one that reappeared in Greece and Rome’s planetary worship, in Israel’s rampant demon activity, and again in today’s growing interest in astrology, tarot, Ouija boards, Eastern mysticism, witchcraft, and Satanism. The message insists that these practices are not harmless curiosities or mere commercial fads: they can begin with curiosity or a desire for power, then create fear, superstition, bondage, and increasingly deeper involvement, ultimately opening people to demonic influence. Yet the answer has never been education, materialism, or human ingenuity, but spiritual deliverance through Jesus Christ, who confronted evil spirits, forgave sin, and demonstrated authority over darkness; Paul’s command for a demon to leave a young witch and prophetess illustrates that same authority. The testimony of a young woman involved in an alleged satanic human sacrifice underscores how deeply evil can distort a life, but her later deliverance through Christ shows that no past is beyond His forgiveness and restoring power. The central truth is that the occult offers destruction disguised as enlightenment, while Jesus Christ offers a greater power—one that builds rather than destroys, brings hope where there is despair, and gives lasting freedom, purpose, and peace.

The book we know as 1 Enoch was well known to early Christians. Its importance produced an understandable question among some influential early Christian writers and, one may presume, Christians in general: Should 1 Enoch be considered inspired and thus “Scripture” in the manner of other books in the Old Testament? Ultimately, Christianity at large answered this question negatively, save for the Church in Ethiopia. But the discussion is nonetheless of interest today. This episode presents an abbreviated survey of how select Second Temple Jews and early Christian books and writers assessed the scriptural status of 1 Enoch.

He distinguishes between two types of impurity—ritual and moral—where ritual impurity arises from natural, unavoidable conditions like childbirth or contact with death, and is temporary, while moral impurity stems from abominable acts such as idolatry or bloodshed, requiring exile or capital punishment rather than sacrifice. The sacrificial system primarily addresses ritual impurity, not moral sin, serving to maintain the sanctity of sacred space by symbolically decontaminating it rather than cleansing the individual. Sacrifices function as visual object lessons, with the priest acting as a "God proxy" whose controlled actions—such as selecting a flawless animal, exercising dominion over life and death, and dismembering the creature—mirror God’s sovereignty. Notably, blood is applied to altars and sacred objects, not people, underscoring that the system protects divine space from human defilement rather than purifying the worshipper. The Day of Atonement acts as a "reset button," symbolically removing national sin via the scapegoat sent into the wilderness, reflecting cosmic geography where holiness is confined to the camp and chaos lies beyond.
