My first update this week is that the 9th Annual Bay Area Queer Zine Fest is mere DAYS (3 of them) away! I can’t believe it’s finally here after 6 months of planning! See you Sunday in Oakland? 👉👈

My other update is that I’ll be at Hallow-Zine Fest 4 in Sacramento next month! Come to Oak Park Brewery on October 17th if you are so inclined 👻

That’s all for now!

xoxo,

Maira

There’s a new episode of Long Arm Stapler up today, featuring Sully of Kaiju Cabal! We talk about all sorts of things, including the fact that I’ve literally never eaten crab rangoon (despite getting sent crab rangoon memes on a regular basis). It’s a longer ep, but worth a listen! You can find it on your podcast platform of choice 🥸

In other podcast news, I’m going to take a tiny break from posting new episodes! I’ve got a lot of iron plates spinning in the fire right now, between the upcoming Bay Area Queer Zine Fest, Life, and other things. I realize this may be disappointing to some! I’m kinda disappointed too tbh! But there are larger factors at play and truth be told, I’m a little burned out again.

That being said, now is the perrrrrrrrfect time to hit me up to talk about your zines on the show! You can fill out this form and I’ll get back to you soon.

Upcoming zine fest stuff that I’m tabling at:

• Bay Area Queer Zine Fest (9th annual!!!!!) is happening in Oakland on Sunday, September 27th at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center. 11-5, free to attend, masks required.

• Hallow-Zine Fest IV is happening Saturday, October 17th at Oak Park Brewery in Sacramento. 12-5, free to attend, wear a costume. I’ve never done this one before and I love Halloween, so I’m excited!

• Philly Zine Fest is happening Saturday, December 12th at Temple University in Philadelphia. 11-5, free to attend. I’ve never done this one before either, so I’m very excited!

You can still join my monthly mail club for just $4/month! Get a fresh new mini zine in your mailbox every month before it’s available for greater consumption at a fest or online!

Speaking of my ko-fi, Karaoke Zine 4 is now for sale! It’s full color and features 13 contributors and can be yours for the low price of $5 plus shipping.

I think that’s all for now! Hoping to visit my buds at Wasted Ink Zine Distro this week (random) and will report back next week 🫡

xoxo,

Maira

It’s been a minute. Life has been feeling very 🤪 between zine fest prep (both BAQZF and last weekend’s SF Zine Fest), Life Stuff, work, etc. Here are some updates from the past few weeks:

Firstly, a new episode of Long Arm Stapler came out last week! I recorded with UK-based Iris of Textile Tales. You can find the episode here or on your podcast platform of choice. Content warning for mentions of sexual assault.

In other podcast news, I was on someone else’s podcast! I joined Keidra Chaney and Liz Mason (both former Long Arm Stapler guests!) for an episode of their podcast, Rough Draft with Keidra and Liz. You can listen here or on your podcast platform of choice. I had so much fun!

I finished Karaoke Zine volume 4! You can pick up a copy on my ko-fi here. It was really fun to put together and I’m really happy with everyone’s submissions!

My monthly mail club on ko-fi is still going strong, and I’m queuing up this month’s zine this weekend. If you’d like to get a fresh-off-the-printer mini zine straight to your mailbox once a month, you can sign up here.

If you can believe it, the 9th annual Bay Area Queer Zine Fest is mere WEEKS away! I’ve been organizing this fest for the last 9 years (I started it in 2017) and dare I say this might be the best yet? I will not be tabling at the in-person fest this year, due to needing to be running around taking care of shit. I will, however, be tabling virtually!

We have a brand new website with custom virtual tables. Everything is medieval/fantasy/ren faire-themed. It’s gonna be super cute, masked, free, and in-person on September 27th at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center! This year’s flyer was designed/painted by superstar co-organizer Caspian!

Please come check it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s all for now. New episode of Long Arm Stapler on Tuesday 🤭

xoxo,

Maira

I’m back with another episode of Long Arm Stapler this week, featuring Billy McCall of ilovezines.com and a host of other projects. We talk about what he’s been working on lately, how he got into zines, cats, and more! Here’s a direct link to the episode, or you can find it on your podcast platform of choice. Liking, sharing, and subscribing all really help!

If you are interested in chatting with me on the Long Arm Stapler podcast, fill out this form: http://tinyurl.com/letschatLAS

I am still soliciting submissions for Karaoke Zine 4! I’m hoping to have it done by SF Zine Fest (where I’ll be exhibiting in the basement!!!) on September 6th.

You can submit here: http://tinyurl.com/karaokezine4

Here are some upcoming events for me and BAQZF:

That’s all for now!

A new episode of Long Arm Stapler went up yesterday, but I was traveling from 6:30 AM - 8:30 PM and uhhhhhhhh airport WiFi is NOT great, so here we are!

I interviewed of Uncommon Practice Studio! We talk about their zine making process, organizing a zine fest (Biggest Little Zine Fair), making lists, and more. You can find the episode on your podcast platform of choice, or here’s a direct link.

I’m in not one but TWO art shows that open this weekend! CHaRMS riso show in Sacramento at Prism Art Space, and Stripped at Scuttlebutt Studio in Oakland. I’m out of town and unfortunately can’t make it to either opening, but if you can, you should!

I’ve honestly been in kind of a zine-making rut lately. I started a new zine at a zine social that I co-hosted with recently, but I haven’t worked on it since then. I think I was really trying to force writing about the passing of my nana, without really giving myself time or space to think about what I really wanted to say, or what I thought needed to be said in a zine.

I haven’t been writing much in general lately, either. I plan on reading a lot of poetry this week (Don’t Let it Kill You by theo legro and Pitiful by Brandi Bird, both friends <3) while I’m out of town. I don’t consider myself a poet by any means, but I think reading emotional work by people I really admire will help me process some of my grief and help me get ready to write about it.

I am still accepting submissions for Karaoke Zine 4, though! You can submit a piece here.

I think that’s all I have this week. If you have any tips for getting out of a creative rut, I’d love to hear them! Also, please check out both of those poetry books if you feel so inclined!

xoxo,

Maira

I didn’t write one of these last week, despite having a new episode out. Sorry about that, but I had a really good reason. My maternal grandmother (nana) passed away last Tuesday and I took most of the day off, and then didn’t really feel up to writing anything for the rest of the week. I’m not going to eulogize her here, but I’ve been dealing with (and also suppressing) a lot of complicated emotions over the last week!

Anyway, “new” episode featuring Colin Burrowes came out last Tuesday. We talk a lot about one of my favorite bands, Fugazi! You can listen here or on your preferred podcast platform.

I’m in not one, but TWO art shows that both open next Saturday! One is in Oakland and the other is in Sacramento. I am excited for both and hope I can check them out before the end of August 🫣:

Still collecting submissions for Karaoke Zine volume 4! Submission window closes 8/23. You can find volumes 1-3 on my ko-fi.

That’s all I’ve got this week. Will hopefully have more exciting news next week, maybe?

xoxo,

Maira

Happy International Zine Month/Bastille Day/International Non-Binary People’s Day to you and yours. Here are my updates for the week:

The #makeazinebaqzf challenge is still going strong! I haven’t made anything for this week’s prompt yet, but I love a fanzine, so I will try to work on one this week. It’s been really cool to see what people are making and tagging BAQZF in. I’ve been putting everything people have been sharing into a highlight on our Instagram profile.

In other BAQZF news, we had a zine reading over the weekend and it was really cute. I read from my zine about walking that I made for Mojave Zine Fest in May.

We also have a pop up in a few weeks in Redwood City featuring a stacked lineup of seven zinesters (myself included):

I finished my painting for that show in Niles that’s coming up this weekend. It came out really, really cute imo. His name is Handsome Randy III:

All the pieces in the show are 4”x4” or smaller and they’ll be at dog eye level in conjunction with an annual dog show in the neighborhood!

Back by popular demand, I’m putting together a fourth volume of my karaoke fanzine, Karaoke Zine! You can submit until August 23rd here: http://tinyurl.com/karaokezine4

You can find Karaoke Zine 1-3 on my ko-fi <3 Hit me up with any questions!

Tamper Room Zine Nite is next Wednesday!

That’s all for now! New episode featuring Colin Burrowes next week 😎

xoxo,

Maira

I realize I missed last week, but I didn’t have anything going on, anyway! So here are your Long Arm Stapler updates for this week:

On June 25th, Bay Area Queer Zine Fest tabled at Cal Academy’s NightLife event and we set up a zine making station. It was fun!

The next day, I brought my progress pride quilt to Trans March and got to use it as a blanket AND a cape!

In other BAQZF news, we’re doing a fun series of zine prompts for International Zine Month this month! If you tag @baqzf and use #makeazinebaqzf on Instagram, we’ll repost your work to our story. I’ve made two zines for it so far, one about dachshunds, and one about what I generally keep in my bags.

In podcast news, there’s a new episode today! I don’t know why I didn’t lead with that, but it’s too late(?) to redo my entire post now, sooooooooo here’s some info: I interviewed Norman from Enjoy Zine Festival, taking place in San Francisco this weekend (7/11)! You can listen here or find it on your podcast platform of choice.

If you’ve been enjoying the podcast, please consider becoming a supporter on my ko-fi! It helps subsidize the costs of hosting and production, and it means a lot. And it’s only 60 cents a month after fees.

I’ve got two pieces for two art shows in the works right now. Well, one has been recently finished, and one is in the works. I made a quilt over the weekend for an August show, and today I started a painting for a show in a few weeks that’s in conjunction with an annual dog show here.

I’m having fun!!!!

I feel like I’ve got more stuff going on, but I can’t think of anything in this immediate moment. So anything else will have to wait until next week! Happy international zine month to you and yours!

xoxo,

Maira

Writing this from my phone because substack thinks my work profile is a bot, so this’ll be somewhat brief.

Season 9 of Long Arm Stapler starts today! I was joined by the organizers of Midwest Perzine Fest and we talked about a lot of things, including the joys and challenges of zine fest organization, why perzines rule, and their upcoming event on July 11th in Chicago!

You can listen wherever you get your other podcasts, or here’s a direct link: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2532068/episodes/19385580

In other news, I made a new quilt! It’s the Progress Pride Quilt by geekybobbin, and I’m super stoked on it. I’ve already used it at a Pride event and will be taking it to the show & tell portion of next month’s meeting at my quilt guild.

My most recent zine nite @ Tamper Room in Fremont was cute! Some day I’m gonna remember to take photos or something to document. A few people showed up and some had never made a zine before, which is always really exciting for me.

My copier is fixed and I’m so happy that I can send out mail at my leisure again! Stoked to be able to print more zines, and hopefully start printing for other people again soon (👀👀👀👀👀👀).

I think that’s everything!

xoxo,

Maira

Not much to report on this week. We’re in-between episodes of Long Arm Stapler, with season 9 just around the corner. I’m still working on solidifying a roster but I have reached out to a lot of people and have a lot of exciting interviews lined up!

These stickers aren’t new but they are fun. You can grab one in bisexual lighting ombre or regular turquoise in my shop! I actually added a lot of OOAK sewn stuff to the shop last week(?) that you can also look at while you’re there.

In other news, I’m back on Instagram. I missed sharing art updates in a really casual way. I did, however, make a new account. I was feeling a lot of internalized pressure to make content and post regularly on my old account, and I needed to feel like I could also post quilty stuff, too. So I’m now @maiiira.png!

I haven’t posted a ton of stuff, but will be putting podcast flyers, quilt stuff, zine stuff, random other crafts, etc., on there (as well as sharing here still).

I’m working on a new quilt! It’s the Progress Pride Quilt by GeekyBobbin. I’m hoping to have it done by Trans March (June 26th) so I can bring it with me. I did almost all of the cutting last Friday, so it’s coming along pretty quickly now that that is all done.

I also just finished a baby rag quilt for some friends who are expecting, and I’m working on finishing some bibs for them, too. I love sewing baby stuff! It’s so tiny and cute! I’ll post those next week probably once the recipients have gotten them.

Zine Nite at Tamper Room is back next week 😎 and so is my “fun fabric to scan” collection 😎

Okay I think that’s all I’ve got this week!

xoxo,

Maira

It’s new episode daaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy. AND it’s the final episode of the season! This week’s features Tiana Traffas, a Wisconsin-based zinester and artist. It was a really great and fun conversation (even my editor texted me “fun pod”), and you can find it here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2532068/episodes/19271728 (or wherever you get your other podcasts)

In other podcast news, I’m working on finalizing my roster for season 9! I’ve had one interview for it so far, and have two lined up this week. I’m really excited to be switching some things up and continuing to provide really interesting conversations about zines!

If you’re interested in chatting with me, or if you know someone who might be, click here to fill out the interest form: http://tinyurl.com/letschatLAS

I ordered a new fuser unit for my Ricoh! Fortunately, I’m getting it installed for free! (Thanks, Dad!) Unfortunately, it was expensive! I’m trying to sell more stuff on my ko-fi to try and offset the costs, in hopes that once my copier is fixed, I’ll be able to go back to printing inexpensive sliding-scale zines and flyers for my community. I added a bunch of sewn stuff to the shop, and am always taking beaded mini quilt commissions.

Quilt news: I dropped my quilt off at the county fairgrounds last week. It feels good that it’s finally out of my hands! I’m so excited to see it hanging at the fair! The Alameda County Fair runs from June 19 - July 12 in Pleasanton.

That’s all I can think of for this week - I’m likely forgetting something, but it’ll just have to wait ;-)

xoxo,

Maira

Let’s start with the really important stuff: my quilt for the county fair is DONE! I finished it on Sunday during the final Crisis Club shift ;-( I’ve gotta drop it off on Friday, and then I’m so excited to see it hanging at the fair and will post lots of photos AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! This took somewhere between 50-75 hours to make! It features Gohan, Piccolo Jr., and Super Saiyan Goku (Dragon Ball Z), Rei Ayanami (Neon Genesis Evangelion), and Yusuke and Koenma (Yu Yu Hakusho).

I know I promised lots of Crisis Club feelings this week, but the truth is I haven’t fully processed anything, so expect them to just trickle out week-by-week for the foreseeable future. I’m really, really going to miss the space and the community we built within it.

We had a pay what you want yard sale Saturday from 1-6, and a closing party/reception for the gallery itself and Best in Show IV from 6-9ish after that. Both were great! Lots and lots of people, including dear homies, came through to pay their final respects to the gallery and check out the art one last time. All three of my show pieces sold, all to buds!

Here’s me with one of the many yard sale items, a paper mache hot glue gun (made for BAQZF 2024? 2023?) to match my shitty hot glue gun stick n poke:

I made a cake for the occasion (Banana Cream Funfetti with strawberry buttercream), and it was a huge hit:

That’s really all the updates I have right now. Just a lot of Crisis Club feelings, what this means for my creativity and free time, thinking about zines, maybe starting a new quilt soon, etc. Everything’s kinda jumbled right now.

Next week is the final episode of Season 8 of Long Arm Stapler! I’m joined by Tiana Traffas and we had a really good conversation. Tomorrow night, I’m recording the first episode of Season 9!

xoxo,

Maira

Firstly, there is a new episode of Long Arm Stapler out today, featuring Milo Miller, one of the co-founders of the Queer Zine Archive Project (QZAP). You can listen here or find it on your preferred podcast platform! I think it was a really great conversation about queer zines and archiving, and it was perfect timing to get ready for my panel on queer zines at last weekend’s Mojave Zine Fest ;-)

Speaking of Mojave Zine Fest - it was a blast! I got to hang out with and grab some of her newer zines, sling zines next to my friend Angie at her first solo zine fest, speak on a panel about queer zines, and sell the remainder of the mix CDs I made for my solo show at Crisis Club Gallery last year (the curse is lifted)! Here are some photos - I didn’t take many because I was busy HAVING FUN and also SWEATING and GETTING ATTACKED BY BATS IN A SWIMMING POOL (lol):

I made a bunch of mini zine-holding mini tote bags and sold almost all of them! I carved 3 stamps and stamped each of them to say I <3 MINI ZINES. They were a hit. I finally sold my Goku tote bag. I made a brand new zine for the fest about how much I love walking and sold some of that, too. Overall, it was a really fun weekend, minus the 1,000,000 hours we spent driving around.

I have nothing lined up for a while, which feels kinda nice! But also, I’m sure I’ll find something to keep myself busy with hehe!!!!!

On that note, I’m working on my county fair quilt (still, almost done), planning the 9th annual Bay Area Queer Zine Fest (September 27th in Oakland; apps open June 1st), starting up zine nites again at Tamper Room in Fremont, and this weekend I am saying goodbye to my beloved Crisis Club! ;-(

My next newsletter will have a lot of Crisis Club Feelings, so prepare yourself for those, I guess.

If you’re in Oakland or the surrounding area, come to the Best in Show IV/gallery closing party this Saturday, May 23rd, from 6-9 PM! It’ll be fun, I promise. I’m baking a cake for the occasion.

That’s all I’ve got for this week!

xoxo,

Maira

We’re in between episodes this week, but I have lots of exciting things to share 😎

First up, my SPRING ZINE TOUR concludes this Saturday in the desert at Mojave Zine Fest! I’ll be on a panel about queer zines, which should be really fun and interesting.

If you’re in the area, stop by and say hi! I’ll be tabling with my bud Angie/Delta Rat, and will be there, too 🤩

Small beaded quilt commissions are open on my ko-fi, and all funds go towards getting my copier fixed. You can also buy zines, stickers, join the mini zine monthly mail club, or support the podcast for $1/month! You can also just tip me lol!

I’m almost done with my quilt for the Alameda County Fair!!!! Which is great because the deadline to finish my entry form is coming up very soon, as is the period in which I can drop it off 🫣 I worked on it a lot over the weekend, here’s my progress so far:

I’m going to add at least two more faces (Super Saiyan Goku and either Shinji from Neon Genesis Evangelion or maybe Koenma from Yu Yu Hakusho? Koenma might be more fun…)

Bay Area Queer Zine Fest has an exciting June planned! We’ll be guests at at least two Pride events, and applications open June 1st (but you didn’t hear it from me 😉).

We’ll be at Sonora Pride on June 7th in Sonora, CA and Fremont Pride Fair on June 13th in Fremont, CA.

Finally, my beloved freak haven Crisis Club Gallery is unfortunately closing at the end of the month. If you’re in the area, come see the Best in Show IV closing reception and say goodbye to the gallery!

that’s all for now!

xoxo,

Maira

There’s a new episode of Long Arm Stapler out today, featuring Bay Area-based Lella of T-Nest Press. You can listen here or on Spotify or wherever else you get your podcasts. If you’ve been enjoying the podcast, or have found a new-to-you zinester or distro you’ve been rocking with, please consider supporting the podcast for as little as $1/month on Ko-Fi. After fees, that’s ~60 cents per month, which is 2 cents per day!

On a zine-related note, I tabled Santa Rosa Zine Fest over the weekend and had a lot of fun! I even picked up a Sonoma County Library card after the fest! I really enjoy SRZF, it’s got very chill vibes and I love a library fest.

My next fest is Mojave Zine Fest next weekend!!!! Excited to be back in the desert (maybe? lol it’s gonna be so hot) and I love a first year fest. I’ll be on a panel about queer zines. The organizers are encouraging folks to RSVP on Eventbrite so that they can get a sense of how many attendees they’ll have.

Speaking of zines……. I’m trying to get my Ricoh copier fixed so that I can get back to printing zines for other people (and myself)! Please consider buying something from my shop to help my fundraising efforts. You can also just buy me a coffee! I need to buy a new fuser unit and (hopefully) get my dad to install it. Please consider sharing with your community (especially if you’re in the Bay Area and need something printed eventually) 🙏

Here are some local upcoming events for your perusal <3

‘til next time…………..

xoxo,

Maira

There’s a new episode of Long Arm Stapler out today; I had a great conversation with Ari from Brown Recluse Zine Distro recently. If you’re interested in learning more about zine distros and why they’re important, give it a listen! Available on Spotify or wherever you get your other podcasts~

Bay Area Queer Zine Fest had our first organizing meeting over the weekend! I’m so excited to start planning this year’s fest. We have a sidewalk sale this weekend in Oakland:

My 🌸SPRING ZINE TOUR🌸 continues next weekend in Santa Rosa at Santa Rosa Zine Fest, and then in a month, Mojave Zine Fest. I’ll be on a panel about queer zines at Mojave and I’m excited!

Quilt-wise, I’ve got my hands very full with my county fair entry. I put in about 7-8 hours of quilting over the weekend. I’ve done a little more since then, but here’s an update from Saturday evening:

I also went to a quilt show with my boyfriend, my first time going to one. HOLY SHIT! So many amazing quilts by talented artists. I left feeling so inspired! I had said I wasn’t going to buy any fabric for my quilt buuuuuuut I saw some half yards that would go really well with it that I wanted to use for my binding, so I bought those 🫣

I’m getting to the end of the main quilting for this piece, and then it’ll be on to the faces. I started two faces earlier on my lunch break, but I’m going to wait to sew them down until I’m done with all the quilting!

That’s all for now!

xoxo,

Maira

Short(-ish) update this week, mostly because I forgot it was Tuesday, but also because I just figured out I can do this from my phone and hate typing on my phone! And also this app is kinda hard to use! 👴🏻

Zine-wise, Santa Rosa Zine Fest is coming up in ~2 weeks, and Mojave Zine Fest two weeks after that!! I’m so excited. These are my only currently lined up fests for right now. Might try to table somewhere this summer, might take it easy. I truly never know!

Quilt-wise, I’m making progress on my quilt for the county fair! I’ve decided to hand-quilt it for some reason even though (or because???) I’ve never done it before. I love learning new skills but oooooooooh man I hate sucking at them when I first start lol!!! Anyway, here’s where I’m at so far, featuring Cyclops Gohan (this is obviously a wip):

I’ve been scouring quilting Reddit and watching lots of YouTube tutorials… stay tuned! I might also ask some ladies in my quilt guild for guidance, I feel like that’s what they’re there for?

If you’re local to me, Bay Area Queer Zine Fest is having another pop up outside of Crisis Club to raise funds for this year’s fest on Sunday, April 26th! I will not be there because I will be out of town, but you should go 👀 and check out Best in Show IV while you’re at it!

Bonus photo of a tree sprouting next to my house. Why? Idk man, I love spring.

New episode next week!

xoxo,

Maira

Firstly, we have a new Long Arm Stapler episode today! This one features my friend Toni of Chicken Milkshake and Rock Paper Scissors Collective. We chat about lots of different things, and it was a fun conversation. Give it a listen! It’s also available on all podcasting platforms ;-)

Over the weekend, my annual dog-themed art show, Best in Show IV, opened at Crisis Club Gallery in Oakland! There were 19 artists total. I exhibited 3 quilts! My boyfriend brought me flowers!

The opening was a lot of fun and I love putting on this show. If you’re local, you can catch it weekends this month (or, come to fiber night on the 15th!!!!). If you are not local and are interested in purchasing one of these bad boys to have shipped to you, please hit me up.

In other quilt news, I finished the quilt top (minus applique) for my county fair quilt. Today, I picked up hand quilting supplies - I’ve never hand quilted before, but why not give it a shot?

The backing will be some RealTree fleece from Joann (rip) and the center of each star will feature a felt applique anime face!

Random assortment of zine news: Bay Area Queer Zine Fest was awarded a $750 grant from the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence over the weekend, meaning we can pay for our venue for the 9th annual fest later this year!

I’m working on troubleshooting by troublesome Ricoh machine so that I can start printing for other people again. It’s a slow process because I have no idea what I’m doing lol.

Spring Zine Tour continues in a few weeks with Santa Rosa Zine Fest, and then the first ever Mojave Zine Fest two weeks after that! I’ll be on a panel about queer zines at Mojave!

That’s all for this week!

xoxo,

Maira

I am the world’s sleepiest guy and almost forgot to write this today. I spent the weekend in Arizona, checking out the amazing Wasted Ink Zine Distro and tabling Tucson Zine Fest, and got back Sunday afternoon.

Seeing Wasted Ink in its new location irl was incredible! I’ve known Charissa for a long time, and finally got to chat with them about a year ago, right around when WIZD opened in its current location. Last Friday, they let me explore the space (including Paper Jam + Print), make a collage, and staple my own zines that they printed on the spot.

(bonus Paper Jam + Print bathroom selfie because why not?)

Tucson Zine Fest was pretty fun. The first fest of the year for me is always a little shaky, and on top of that, it was also an out-of-state fest! But I got to see friends and after the fest, I got tacos with a bunch of Wasted Ink-adjacent folks and it was really nice.

I always struggle with my table setup when I can’t bring my big, sturdy zine rack. There were a few zines that I couldn’t fit on the table, and I ended up binder clipping some tote bags to the front of my table after I took this photo. Someone looked at my “Krillin loves zines” button and asked if it was a self-portrait? Stay weird, Tucson!

My next two fests of the season are:

Santa Rosa Zine Fest (Saturday, May 2nd in Santa Rosa, CA)

Mojave Zine Fest (Saturday, May 16th in Twentynine Palms, CA)

I’m driving to both, so I’ll be able to have my normal table setup!!!!!!!!!! Yay!

On Sunday, Bay Area Queer Zine Fest had a sidewalk sale at Crisis Club. We raised about $250 for the fest, which feels amazing! We also had a lot of foot traffic and people came in to check out the gallery itself. Someone even bought this quilt I made last year - I’m sooooooo glad it’s going to a good home and is not just going to sit in my office until the end of time:

Just a reminder that Best in Show IV opens THIS SATURDAY!!!! Come through, bring your dog, wear a mask, say hi to me! I installed most of the show yesterday. It looks great. There are 20 artists featured in the show, including an ~international participant!

I’ll have some special dog-related stickers and “fake riso” prints of the dog-themed collage I made over the weekend on sale, along with the three quilts that I made.

If you can’t make it on Saturday, it’s on view weekends in April and during special gallery hours (like zine night and fiber arts night).

That’s all for now!

xoxo,

Maira

It’s new episode day, and this time, I’m joined by ! You can find a direct download here or find Long Arm Stapler on your preferred podcast platform. I had a lot of fun with this conversation, and I hope you enjoy it, too.

I’ve got a new sticker in the shop! Perfect for the anime-loving zine fan in your life. It’s water- and weatherproof, 2.5”, and available for $3 plus shipping. Click the image to find it in my shop <3

A reminder if you’re in the Bay Area to come check out Best in Show IV!!!!!!! It opens next Saturday (April 4th) at Crisis Club Gallery in Oakland and is shaping up to be incredible. There are actually 21 artists in the show, it’s gonna be huge! Stop by!

I think the only other thing I have to report this week is that my Spring Zine Tour starts thiiiiiiiis weekend in Tucson, AZ!

Stop by and say hi, and maybe pick up some of my new zines and/or stickers! I’ll be upstairs!

xoxo,

Maira
