And you do not even know what it is.

I did not fully understand it at the time. But I have been unpacking it ever since, because it may be the most important thing anyone has ever said to me.

Here is the question I ask everyone I work with now. It sounds simple. It is not.

Why are you getting out of bed in the morning?

Not what do you do for work. Not what are your responsibilities. Why are you here? What were you given this life for? What is the thing that, when you are doing it, does not feel like work because it is what you actually are?

Most people cannot answer that question. They stall. They give me their job title or their family obligations or their five-year plan. Those are not answers. Those are what happens when no one has ever asked the question before.

Modern psychology spends enormous energy on what is wrong with people. It spends very little time on this question. And this question matters more than almost any other because if you do not know why you are here, you will spend your life reaching outside yourself for everything — happiness, meaning, validation, purpose. You will look to other people, to substances, to achievement, to status, to fill something that can only be filled from the inside.

The swim is already in the fish. The purpose is not out there somewhere waiting to be found. It is already inside you, built into your nature, the way swimming is built into a fish. The fish does not have to study swimming or earn the right to swim. It just has to stop fighting the water.

We are tribal beings. That is not a philosophy. That is biology.

For the vast majority of human history, people lived in tribes. Small, interdependent communities where everyone had a role. The hunter. The healer. The teacher. The builder. The storyteller. The elder. The roles were not arbitrary — they emerged from the particular gifts and nature of each person. The tribe survived because each person was doing what they were actually built for, and the community was stronger for it.

We have largely lost this. Modern society is organized around the individual. Individual rights, individual achievement, individual success. And there is real value in that. But it has also created a particular kind of suffering that I do not think is accidental.

When you remove a person from the context of a tribe and tell them their purpose is entirely self-defined, entirely self-generated, entirely their own responsibility to discover in isolation — you get people who are lost. People who have jobs but no calling. People who have accomplished things but cannot tell you why any of it matters.

We are not designed for that. We are designed for contribution. For having a role that the community needs. For knowing that when we show up and do what we are here to do, it matters to something larger than ourselves.

When that connection is missing, the reaching begins. For the substance, for the approval, for the next achievement, for anything that creates even a temporary sense of meaning.

There is a scientific experiment from the 1960s that I think about often when I talk about purpose.

A researcher named John Calhoun built what he called a utopia for mice. Universe 25. A perfect environment — unlimited food, unlimited water, ideal temperature, no predators, no disease, no scarcity of any kind. Everything a mouse could possibly need to thrive.

The population exploded at first. The mice did what mice do when conditions are favorable.

Then things started to break down.

As the population grew and the environment became crowded, social structures collapsed. Violence increased. Mothers abandoned their young. The hierarchies that naturally organize mouse communities stopped functioning. Roles disappeared. And then came the most disturbing part of the experiment.

Calhoun called them the beautiful ones.

They were physically perfect mice. Healthy, well-fed, no injuries. But they had completely withdrawn from social life. They did not fight. They did not reproduce. They did not engage with the community at all. They just groomed themselves obsessively and existed in their physical abundance, doing nothing.

The colony died. The beautiful ones were the last to go. Not from starvation. Not from disease. From the complete absence of meaningful role and purpose.

They had everything they needed to survive. They had nothing they needed to live.

That experiment has stayed with me because I have seen its human equivalent everywhere. The person who retires and is dead within two years. The executive who sells the company and loses the will to get up in the morning. The person who finally gets the house, the car, the relationship, the money — and feels nothing. The successful person sitting in their beautiful life wondering why it all feels empty.

Physical abundance does not substitute for purpose. The most well-fed, comfortable, safe human being on earth will deteriorate without a meaningful role to play.

The question is not what do you have. The question is what does your tribe need from you.

And if you do not know the answer, the reaching begins — for anything that temporarily fills the space where purpose should be.

Now here is where it gets personal.

For years I was told — by doctors, by treatment centers, by programs — that I was an alcoholic. I went to AA. I identified as an alcoholic. I introduced myself as an alcoholic. My core story, the one running in my nervous system, became: I am an alcoholic.

And what does an alcoholic do?

An alcoholic drinks.

As long as my core identity was alcoholic, I was in a battle. Every day was a war against the thing I had told my nervous system I was. The nervous system does not fight the identity. It serves it.

Think about a hunter in the tribe. His nervous system has been trained to filter out millions of pieces of incoming information so that the relevant signals — movement in the brush, a shift in the wind — come through with clarity. The body has organized itself around the role. The nervous system is eliminating everything that does not serve the hunt. This is not discipline. This is the system doing what the identity tells it to do.

Now apply that to an overweight person who loses weight with medication or willpower. The weight comes off. Then it comes back. Because underneath the weight loss effort, the nervous system is still running the identity of the overweight person — a story often written in childhood around something that had nothing to do with food. The system gains the weight back because it is just doing what the story is telling it to do.

You cannot change the behavior by fighting the behavior.

You have to change the story.

This realization did not come quickly. It came after about five years of sobriety, through ceremony and practice and honest examination.

What I finally understood was this: I was not addicted to alcohol. I was fulfilling my identity.

The story my nervous system was running was doing exactly what stories do — organizing the body around it, creating the behavior that confirmed it. To change for real I had to change the role. Not in the conscious mind, which can say whatever it wants. In the nervous system, the subconscious, the body.

That is what the Kundalini work was doing. That is what the medicine was doing. That is what five years of daily practice was doing. Not just removing the alcohol. Rewriting the identity underneath it.

What emerged on the other side was something I had not expected.

In ceremony, over time, through the silence after the work — something became clear. Not as a decision I made. As a recognition of something that had always been true.

I am a teacher.

Looking back I can see it running through everything — the way I worked with crews on set, the way I naturally moved toward the real story in every interview, the way I stopped the woman at the Christmas party and said sit back down and tell me what is actually true. The way I have always been drawn to the moment when someone drops the surface version of themselves and says something real.

I was always the teacher. I just did not have the word for it. And without the word — without the identity — I was running something else instead.

Marcus Aurelius said it simply: get up and do what you are here to do.

That is it. No struggle, no negotiation, no reaching outside yourself for motivation. Just get up and do what you are here to do.

Now there is no such thing as work for me. I work with people who are lost in their stories. I ask them the question. I sit with them while they find the real answer. I point toward what is true. That is not a job. That is the swim.

The Buddha said once you find your purpose you become the stick floating down the stream. Not fighting the current. Not swimming against it. Moving with what is already moving, carried by something larger than your own effort.

That is what it feels like now. Not without challenge. But not a war.

The battle with alcohol is gone. Not because I white-knuckle it every morning. Because an alcoholic is no longer who I am. I changed the story. The body followed.

So back to the question.

Why are you getting out of bed in the morning?

If you do not know the answer, that is not a failure. It is an invitation. The answer is already inside you — it has been running underneath everything, expressed in the moments when you forgot to perform and just did what came naturally, when you lost track of time because you were doing the thing you are actually built for.

The swim is already in you.

The question is whether you are going to keep fighting the water or start moving with it.

Find the story that is actually yours. Not the one handed to you by a diagnosis or a program or a parent or a culture. The one that is yours.

Change that story and everything else changes with it.

The fish does not have to earn the right to swim.

It just has to stop fighting the water.

Lesson learned. Wisdom gained.

Thanks for reading Mark's Substack! Somewhere around 3500-4000 shoot days. Union sets. Union crews. Long nights, longer days, the kind of pressure where everyone in the room is watching you make the call.

I had the house on the ocean, the rental properties, the production companies. From the outside I had “made it” on the inside I was being consumed by a monster I had unconsciously created. And this monster was hungry. And it began to consume me.

As I built my “success” I accumulated lots of “things” to have fun, to look cool, for investment-to fill a void. At some point these “things” required 70K a month to feed. One day I realized that I had to work 150 days a year (on the road mostly) to pay for a house I was rarely in-for a boat I was never on. The Buddhist teaching hit me “you don’t own things-things own you”. I had 5 -30 year mortgages. I had become a slave to a master I created. It was a trap and I didnt know how to get out.

So I drank. A lot. Not at first-but as they say, “It’s fun, then fun with problems, then just problems.”

Exactly.

The Short Version

Five rehabs in ten years. Each one genuine. Each one a war I kept losing by morning.

At fifty, I hit the real bottom - a three-hundred-square-foot studio in Venice Beach, my body shutting down, hallucinating, feeling my own consciousness drain out of me and not fighting it. I’d thrown everything I had at this - money, willpower, humiliation - and I was simply out. Then a whisper, quiet as anything: Try just one more time. That was enough to reach for the phone. No rehab would take me - I was too far gone even for that - so I went to the hospital instead and spent my birthday there alone, strapped to a hospital bed crapping in bedpan. How did I get here?!

I got out, went back to rehab, then walked back into that same apartment - exactly as I’d left it - with nothing but a sobriety date and a phone number. I was absolutely terrified. That number belonged to my new sponsor, a former-military Englishman, sober thirty years, who told me flatly: “If you don’t do exactly what I say, you know you’re going to die.”

He was right. I said yes.

I did the work. Amends, mostly. The one that undid me was to my grandmother - the woman I’d once fallen down drunk in front of. I flew to Chicago to face her. For context, my grandfather was an alcoholic and he got sober and became successful. I had played the victim card that I inherited this “disease” from him.

Here I am this “big time Director” and I was trembling. I made the amends. Afterward I said, half-joking, “I guess I got the alcoholic gene from Grandpa.” She looked at me and said:

“Yeah. But you also got the sober one.”

That sentence changed something permanent in me. I stopped being a victim of my family history and became someone with power. Same inheritance. Same equipment as a man who’d gotten sober decades before me and never looked back.

Years of unglamorous daily work followed, mostly in silence -battling the demons and thoughts in my mind. Kundalini yoga, four a.m. mornings, cold showers, and then ayahuasca ceremony. The medicine shattered all illusions, myself and society had created. That story is not for this substack-stay tuned for that one.

Sober Didn’t Mean Free

I thought getting sober was the hard part. It wasn’t. The hard part was learning to exist without the thing I’d used to disappear.

I would go out to escape my small cave and people would drink, I wouldn’t, and they’d ask why. They would say “I noticed you’re not drinking. Is there something wrong? do you have a problem?” So somethings wrong with me. Shame showed up again-it’s so fucked up. Instead of the truth, I’d make something up. The shame that had made me hide the drinking now made me hide the not-drinking. A whole new battle showed up that I wasn’t prepared for. I wasn’t ashamed of alcohol anymore. I was ashamed of being someone who’d had a problem with it. Damn. Shame is what takes people out-I know. It almost took me out. Later, I realized it wasn’t even mine.

Your Shadow Is Your Superpower

I didn’t know Carl Jung’s * name when I was lying on that apartment floor in Venice. I found him later, in the years of recovery and ceremony work that followed, and when I did, it felt like someone had been standing behind me the whole time, taking notes.

Jung called it the Shadow: everything about ourselves we can’t accept, so we push it down and pretend it isn’t there. Not just the obviously “bad” stuff, either. Ambition. Anger. Sexuality. Grief. Sometimes genius. Anything that didn’t fit the person we were told to be gets exiled to the basement. And the basement doesn’t stay quiet. Jung’s whole point was that what we refuse to look at inside ourselves doesn’t disappear - it runs us from underneath, and we call the result “fate” or “bad luck” or “just who I am,” never realizing we’re watching our own unconscious steer the car.

I lived that for fifty years. I built an entire life engineered around nobody seeing my Shadow - hit every call time, delivered every shot, kept the set running, and drank in the dark where nobody close to me could look. I thought I was protecting my career. I was actually protecting my Shadow, feeding it my silence so it could keep running things.

Here’s the part almost nobody tells you: after I got sober, I kept doing the exact same move. New friends would notice I wasn’t drinking and ask why, and instead of the truth, I’d hand them a story. Same instinct. Different disguise. The Shadow doesn’t care whether you’re using or sober - it just wants to stay hidden. That’s the part of Jung’s work that actually cracked something open for me. It was never really about the alcohol. It was about the hiding itself.

Jung had a line for this that I think about constantly: you don’t become enlightened by picturing yourself full of light. You become enlightened by making the darkness conscious. Not fixing it. Not fighting it. Making it conscious - looking directly at the thing you’ve spent your whole life looking away from.

That’s what the scene with my grandmother actually was, underneath everything. I flew to Chicago to make it conscious. I said out loud the sentence I’d spent years making sure nobody heard. And what came back wasn’t judgment. It was permission - you also got the sober one - to stop treating the worst thing about me as the whole truth about me.

There’s an old teaching I love about a dark room you’re afraid to enter because you can’t see what’s in it. Your mind fills the dark with monsters - whole catastrophes built out of nothing, the same way I once built an entire catastrophe in my head out of a single cup of coffee with a woman I owed an amend to. You don’t fight the dark. You light a candle. The candle doesn’t defeat the room. It reveals what was always there, and it turns out the monsters were furniture.

Jung also understood something I’ve watched play out in ceremony work more times than I can count: the thing you can’t stand in yourself is usually the exact thing you start seeing everywhere in other people. He called it projection. You disown a piece of yourself, and then spend your life reacting to that same piece wearing someone else’s face. I once wrote off a man as fake within minutes of meeting him - it took three days sitting with him in the jungle doing ayahuasca to realize the “fake” I saw in him was a piece of my own performance I hadn’t owned yet.

Here’s the reframe that matters more than any of it: the Shadow isn’t only the dangerous part of you. It’s also where the power is stored. The same unconscious material that runs you from below, if you never look at it, is the same material that becomes fuel once you do. Nothing changes about the content. What changes is whether you spend your life managing it in secret or using it in the open.

I think about two brothers, identical twins, raised in the same hard circumstances — same poverty, same absent father, a mother struggling with her own addiction. One ends up in prison. The other becomes a CEO. Ask either one how he got where he is, and you get almost the same sentence back: “What else was I going to do? Look where I came from.” Same origin. Same words. Opposite meaning. One used the wound as a life sentence. The other used it as fuel. That’s the entire difference between a Shadow that owns you and a Shadow you’ve learned to use.

We live in a world built out of exactly that kind of pairing. Day needs night. A wave needs a trough the same size as its crest, or it isn’t a wave. An electric motor needs equal push from a positive charge and a negative one, or it won’t turn at all. You don’t get to keep the parts of yourself you like, throw out the rest, and still call it a whole person. The Shadow gives the light its shape. Take away the contrast and there’s nothing left to see.

None of this is permission to romanticize the damage, or to pretend the years I lost were secretly a gift. They weren’t. People got hurt, including me. But the wreckage, once you’ve actually gone back and cleaned it up - not just talked about it, cleaned it up - stops being dead weight. It becomes information. Compassion. The reason I can sit across from another person in the worst chapter of their life and not flinch. The thing I spent thirty years hiding is the same thing that built this new medicine and healing ecosystem called Frequency.

People want to talk to the guy who flew the plane through the war and brought everyone home safe. Not the guy who wrote the flight instruction manual. And thats my superpower.

Your Shadow works the same way, whatever it’s made of. It doesn’t have to be alcohol. It can be the divorce you never talk about, the failure you’ve rewritten into a more flattering story, the anger you learned to swallow so young you forgot you were ever angry. Wherever your hiding is happening, that’s where your fuel is stored.

Find your shadow. It’s a paper tiger. Its not scary- that’s a story you made up. Light a candle and go into that dark room inside your mind. When you do, embrace and work with it. Redirect it. It is where the answers lie. Trust me, I flew the plane.

Use your Shadow. It’s not weakness waiting to be found out.

It’s your power, waiting to be claimed.

Lesson learned. The Ducati is older “man’s motorcycle “ no fancy bells and whistles no traction control, no gyros to keep you balanced -barely has turn signals -just you. The machine. The pavement

The mountain roads unspool ahead of me - hairpins, switchbacks, blind crests where I have no idea if there’s a stalled minivan on the other side- and I take them at the edge of what I previously could hold-and then I push it up a notch from there. On purpose. because it’s necessary. From the outside this looks like recklessness. It's the opposite. Inside my head, my mind is laser focused, and highly attenuated. A rare state. Flow state.

On the bike there's no texting. There's no half listening to something while my hands find the wheel on their own.as in a car, I've driven my own car and arrived in my own driveway with no memory of the drive -no GPS, no idea how I got there. That's not a lapse. That's how a car is built to be driven. In a car you’re sitting in a comfortable chair in a controlled atmosphere, listening to music, talking on the phone/-obvious -feeling the air conditioning, barely hearing the outside environment literally in a world of your own and there’s hundreds of thousands of these “worlds of their ones” everywhere unconscious to the outside environments - just several feet apart, traveling at high speeds and opposing directionsi unconscious to the outside danger. I look around at other drivers and pretty much 100% of them are texting or on Instagram.

The only reason people can drive while doing these foolish things is they’re completely unaware, But it’s actually the subconscious mind driving-The conscious mind goes somewhere else — the phone call, tomorrow's problem, the argument from this morning. commenting on a like you got on Instagram. A car doesn't require you to be present . A motorcycle does. It’s a matter of life and death.

On the bike, awareness collapses to many single laser focal points simultaneously-the white line, the road surface, the exact screaming frequency of the engine is holding inches under my body - which is leaning down low for maximum aerodynamics. Everything else falls away -because I've reached some elevated state, “flow state” as some call it- because a mind under real consequence does exactly what it evolved to do. It narrows. It sharpens. Fear isn't the enemy of clarity. On a motorcycle, fear is the source of it. It’s a rush most people never feel. But I require it.

I didn't always ride like this.

I moved to Topanga from Florida, where I'd only ever ridden flat, straight hot scorching roads. I didn't know mountains., The power and the vastness and elevation of the mountains. Exciting and completely intimidating.

The first time I took my bike up Topanga Canyon Boulevard - hairpin stacked on hairpin the whole way up - I was completely terrified. I crawled through every corner. Flat ground was the only thing I actually knew how to ride, and this wasn't that. White knuckling it the whole way -miles behind the friends I went with. And I thought I was a good rider-boy was that humbling and in that humility was the opening for growing.

Coincidentally I was working on a TV show with a director who was friends with Keanu Reeves and had done work with his motorcycle company, Arch. She asked me one day if I actually rode. I said of course. She said Keanu had closed Laguna Seca motorcycle track (One of the best in the world ) for three days -a private track weekend for Arch's clients and friends, and was bringing them to the track to help his clients learn how to really ride. So of course he brought world champion riders to elevate his customers to riding skills and confidence. All at no cost. Keanu was picking up the bill . (by the way he’s an amazing individual. ) I jumped at this opportunity. I called my manager who had been helping me elevate my writing and he said “dude you have get me to go with you”of course I did we both threw our bikes in the back of his pick up and we headed to Monterey California

That's where I actually learned to ride. Not on the canyon -on a closed circuit in Monterey, going faster than I thought I could survive, taught by people who'd built their whole lives around exactly this. Everything in this chapter -the lean, the eyes ahead of the bike, the throttle instead of the brake - I learned there first. The canyon is where I practice it. Laguna Seca is where I found out it was true. I realize you do not ride motorcycles, you dance with them. You hug them tight with your legs, gripping the fuel tank your toes on the balls of your feet so they can swivel lightly with the turns, your hands do not grip the handlebars you hold lightly -fearless-gripping tight, holding on too tight Is fear. And we know what happens when you hold onto things too tight in your life -they escape you. When you grab sand in your hands and grip it too tight, it escapes. Hold lightly and it stays. Grip life, people too hard they leave you. It’s like grasping smoke with your hand. So don’t hold on so tight. Take a deep breath and just “be” The more you try to control the machine the more it is separate from you. It’s similar in horseback riding the more you try to “Control” the horse the more it’s going to try to buck you Off. Relax, become one with the horse become one with the motorcycle, the iron horse. Just be

Rule1-

When you enter a fast corner and it starts to feel like too much - like you're carrying more speed than the turn can hold -every instinct in your body tells you to stand the bike up and bail. Don't. That's the move that kills you. The physics run the other way: upright, you're riding on about an inch of rubber. Lean the bike over, and the tire's contact patch actually widens. You get more traction-not less. The bike is safest exactly at the angle that feels most dangerous. So when the fear spikes and your body screams to pull out, the only way through is to lean harder. Commit further into the turn you're afraid of. Bail, and you go down. Lean in and you hold the road.

We do the same thing with our lives, and we get it backwards in the same place. A relationship gets hard, a business gets shaky, a fear gets loud -and the instinct is to stand up out of it. Pull back. Protect ourselves by disengaging. That's the moment we lose our traction with reality, not gain it. The people who hold the line are the ones who lean further in when it gets tightest - more honesty, not less; more presence, not less; more commitment to the thing that's scaring them, not an exit from it. The turn doesn't get safer when we pull away from it. It gets safer when we lean into it.

There's a technique underneath that first law that governs how far ahead you're allowed to look, and it changes with speed.

Take a sharp corner fast enough and you cannot look at what's directly in front of you. If you do, it's already too late - your eyes are showing you the present, and by the time the mind processes it and the body responds, the present is gone and you're in it. There's a lag between seeing something and doing something about it, and the faster the bike goes, the more ground that lag costs. So you look further out -you look into the “future” of the road farther than feels natural. On a tight, fast switchback this means turning your head almost fully over your shoulder, finding the exit of the turn long before you're anywhere near it. From the outside it looks unhinged - a rider mid-corner with his head cranked around like he's checking for someone behind him. It isn't nerves. It's the only way the physics work at that speed.

We do this backwards in life constantly. When something is moving fast and the stakes are high, the instinct is to stare hard at the immediate danger, the thing directly in front of us. That's exactly the wrong target - on a bike, in a car, in a crisis, you go where you look. Fixate on the obstacle and you steer straight into it. The faster a situation is unfolding, the further out ahead of it we need to be looking -past the current problem, to where we actually intend to come out the other side. The bigger the lag between what's happening and what we're able to do about it, the more lead time we have to build in by looking past the moment we're standing in. Staring at what's wrong right now doesn't protect us from it. It aims us at it. Look ahead.

Thread the Needle

The second law shows up in traffic, and it's just as counterintuitive.

On a motorcycle, hard braking in traffic is often the most dangerous thing you can do. Grab the brake and you can lock up, skid, and go under the car in front of you. What's gotten me out of tight spots isn't braking. It's accelerating -and fast -finding the gap between two cars and threading it at speed, powering through the situation instead of shrinking from it, compressing the time spent in the danger zone. The faster you go through the eye of the needle, the safer you actually are.

In a car, your instinct is to brake. On a bike, sometimes survival means the opposite: you speed up to get out.

Life runs on the same law more often than we admit. When something serious lands on us -a crisis, a loss, a decision we can't avoid - the instinct is to slow everything down, freeze, brake hard and hope it stops in time. But most of the danger in a crisis isn't the crisis itself. It's the hesitation inside it. The moment we decelerate is often the moment we lose control of the outcome. Moving through a hard situation with speed and decisiveness -finding the gap and committing to it -gets us out more often than caution does.

The third law isn't a technique. It's a state.

To ride like this, the mind has to be completely calm. You don't operate the motorcycle -you become it. You're listening to the transmission, feeling the RPMs through your hand, reading the road twenty feet further out than where you are, and your body is answering all of it before you've consciously decided anything. It's a dance, not an operation. You feel the wind. You feel the temperature change dropping into a canyon shadow and coming back out into the sun. You are part of the environment instead of moving through it insulated from it.

This is worth being precise about, because it's easy to mistake for something mystical, and it isn't. It's not a special state you achieve. It's the state you're already built for, that ordinary life buries under noise. The phone, the errands, the fifty tabs open in the mind at once -none of that is who you are. It's accumulation. Riding hard through the canyon doesn't make me into someone new. It burns off everything that isn't me until what's left is just attention, breath, and the road. That's not becoming something. That's remembering something.

The last law is the one that took me longest to trust: on a track, your speed is a direct function of your fear. The more fearless you ride, the faster you go. Not because fear disappears, but because you stop letting it drive the bike. This doesn't mean chasing danger for its own sake. It means the ceiling on how fully we can move through anything -a corner, a crisis, a life -is set by how much fear we're still letting hold the handlebars.

None of this is really about motorcycles. It's about what happens to a person who has one hour, one road, and one line to hold -no phone, no cat, no meeting, nothing subconscious doing the work for them. Everything I need to know about fear, I've learned leaned over at speed on a canyon road: lean in when it gets tight. Accelerate when it gets dangerous. Get quiet enough to become one thing with what you're doing. And stop letting fear hold the wheel.

Lean into it. That's the whole practice.

❖

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" indispensable.

If I carried enough. If I sacrificed enough. If I worked harder than everyone else. If I stayed awake after everyone else went to sleep. Then maybe nothing would fall apart.

That belief built companies. It also built exhaustion.

For years I thought leadership meant becoming the strongest person in the room. Looking back, I don’t think that’s leadership at all. I think that’s survival.

My life has been shaped by collapse.

Alcohol stripped away the illusion that achievement could protect me. Five rehab programs stripped away the illusion that information alone changes people. Betrayal stripped away the illusion that talent guarantees trust. Losing the mushroom business stripped away the illusion that good intentions are enough to protect something sacred.

Each collapse removed another identity I had mistaken for security.

At the time it felt cruel. Today I understand it differently. God wasn’t punishing me. He was dismantling every structure that couldn’t carry the mission He had prepared me for.

That mission eventually became Frequency.

People often ask whether Frequency is a recovery center. A mushroom company. A wellness brand. A business. I usually smile, because none of those answers are quite true.

Frequency is an ecosystem — and an ecosystem is very different from an organization.

Organizations depend on individuals. Ecosystems depend on relationships. Remove one tree from a healthy forest and the forest continues to live, because life was never organized around one tree. It was organized around coherence.

Nature has always understood something we continue to forget: life survives through relationship. Not domination. Not hierarchy. Relationship.

The heart needs the lungs. The lungs need the blood. The blood needs the bone marrow. Every part strengthens every other part. That is how living systems endure.

If you like this, let me send you more.

One evening I looked around Frequency House and something became obvious: none of us had found this place the same way.

A physician from Saudi Arabia arrived carrying a completely different language for healing that fits ours perfectly. A former settler from the West Bank appeared with an extraordinary gift for understanding systems, truth, and stewardship. A creative sound artist with Armenian and Lebanese origins walked through the doors carrying beauty none of us knew how to create. A man from the Viking lands quietly began strengthening the physical foundation with the steady hands of a builder. Others arrived carrying hospitality. Operations. Communication. Music. Medicine. Construction. Technology. And more.

No recruiting agency could have assembled that team. No business plan could have predicted it. No strategic meeting could have manufactured it. They simply arrived, each carrying something the ecosystem was missing.

Looking back, it didn’t feel like hiring. It felt like remembering — almost as though the field itself had been calling each steward home.

That was the evening something inside me finally relaxed. Not because we had solved our financial challenges — we hadn’t. Not because uncertainty disappeared — it didn’t. Not because everyone suddenly became perfect — far from it.

I finally felt safe because I realized the mission no longer depended on one nervous system. It had become distributed throughout a coherent body.

That realization changed everything.

For years I had unconsciously believed that if I let go, everything would collapse. Instead, as I loosened my grip, other hands reached for the work — not because they were told to, but because they genuinely loved what we were protecting together.

That’s when I understood something about ministry I had never fully seen before. Church was never meant to revolve around one personality. It was never meant to depend on one gifted individual. A healthy church behaves like a healthy body: every person strengthens the whole, and the whole protects every person. That is coherence.

Coherence isn’t everyone becoming the same. It is everyone becoming fully themselves while remaining deeply devoted to something larger than themselves.

Diversity creates strength. Shared purpose creates unity. Integrity creates trust. Together they create safety.

Today I understand leadership very differently than I once did. Leadership isn’t carrying the mission. Leadership is building a structure safe enough for the mission to live beyond you — a structure where truth matters more than personality, where stewardship matters more than ownership, where responsibility is shared instead of centralized, where every person knows both what they are protecting and who is protecting them.

That is the Frequency Ecosystem. Not because we declared ourselves one, but because over time I watched something sacred emerge: a coherent body, a living organism, a place where people from opposite sides of the world could arrive without knowing one another and immediately recognize the same calling.

You cannot manufacture that. You can only steward it.

For years I asked the Universe to protect the mission. I realize I was asking the wrong question. The Universe didn’t need to protect the mission. It was teaching us how to build a body capable of protecting one another and the mission comes alive through that. And perhaps that has always been His design — not isolated heroes carrying impossible burdens, but a living body. Many parts. One Spirit. One purpose. One home.

That was the day I finally felt safe.

Not because I became stronger. Because I finally understood I was never meant to carry sacred work alone.
<div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" Just silence.

It surprised me how unfamiliar peace felt.

When you spend years surviving through intensity, peace does not immediately feel safe. It feels suspicious. The body waits for the next hit, the next consequence, the next shame, the next old pattern wearing a new face.

But that morning, nothing came.

The mountain stayed still. The house behind me stayed quiet. And for once, I did not need to outrun my own life.

I took my microdosing™ Portal ritual (www.frequencycaps.com), as part of my morning contemplative practice, and the world sharpened. The edges became clearer. The ordinary became more alive .

Then I saw my black motorcycle waiting.

the motorcycle can become a mirror. It asked me one question.

Can you feel speed without separating from your aliveness it into numbness?

So I rode.

The air pressed against my body. The engine moved beneath me. The canyon opened curve after curve. The world came fast, but inside me something slowed down.

That was new.

For most of my life, speed had been where I hid. I numbed from pain, escaped shame, and the boy in me who learned too early that he had to become someone else to survive.

I built identities the way some men build walls. Strong enough to impress people. High enough to keep the truth out.

But the body always knows.

Mine knew in the exhaustion after performance. It knew in the loneliness after applause. It knew in the old hunger no success, substance, or relationship could finally feed.

For years, I thought recovery meant stopping the obvious destruction.

Stop the substance. Stop the behavior. Stop the collapse. Stop the bleeding.

Now I know this is called: “Stabilization” , the first pillar in my protocol.

Sometimes stopping is the first miracle, but eventually recovery asks for something harder.

Can you stop hiding and face the truth ?

A man can stop using and still be addicted to his own identity. Addicted to being wounded. Addicted to being exceptional. Addicted to being needed. Addicted to the performance of being transformed.

The substance may leave, but the narrative can stay.

And sometimes the narrative is the deeper drug.

Because a scar is not an identity.

It is only a badge of honor!

It acts as a map only when you stop worshiping the wound.

That morning on the motorcycle, I understood something I could not have learned in a book or a meeting.

Recovery is not only the absence of destruction. It is the reconstruction of identity.

It is the moment your body no longer has to protect a lie.

That is why I built Frequency™ House.

A place where the nervous system can stop bracing. A place where nature does not ask for your résumé before offering silence.

Frequency™ was born from relapse and repair, illusion and consequence, the rooms where I lost myself, and the rooms where I began to come back.

I do not believe healing is about becoming pure. Purity can become another mask.

I believe healing is about becoming honest enough for life to trust you again to steward your purpose.

That is the essence of behind Biohack Your Mind™.

It is not another optimization retreat. It is not another weekend of concepts. It is not a spiritual getaway.

It is a four-day immersion for the part of you that knows your old identity has expired, but your body is still loyal to it.
<div The same thing happens with relationships.

The same thing happens with ourselves.

You stop meeting the person in front of you and begin meeting the memory you have of them.

You stop seeing the relationship as it is and begin seeing the accumulated interpretation of everything that has happened inside it.

You stop encountering yourself in the present and begin repeating the description you inherited from the past.

I am the difficult one, the anxious one, the addict or the person who always ruins good things.

Once the mind recognizes a familiar story, it becomes efficient !!

It looks for evidence that confirms it and it overlooks evidence that contradicts it.

It edits the present until the present resembles the past.

Then we say:

See?

I knew this would happen.

We rarely notice that we helped build the proof.

You Do Not See With Your Eyes

You see with your brain’s memory.

You see with your filters such as wounds, expectations, and the identity you are trying to protect. An honest person may assume honesty in others. A person who has been betrayed may detect betrayal before it exists. Someone who expects rejection can turn silence into abandonment. Someone who believes they are unsafe can experience uncertainty as danger.

The event arrives, then the mind assigns a fimiliar meaning from a programmed story, and the body reacts to the meaning as truth.

This is how perception becomes a loop, because we are unaware of the machinery.

The hidden power in this machine !?

Do you ever feel like you want to change people? but obvously we have been told, that we cant !

It is out of our control to do so. However, I am going to propose something that will make you question this ?

I think you carry more power than what you are fully claiming.

Now, imagine with me.

Someone you have known for many years.

A former partner, a parent or a child.

You hold an entire internal film or memories against them.

Waves of disappointments, unfulfilled promises, and the times you needed them to become for you.

Then they walk into the room.

Before they say anything, the film begins playing.

You are no longer responding only to the person, but to the story you have constructed about them.

And what happens here is interesting !

They often start acting in your presence to fullfil the story you have about them.

This is why people feel that they become a different versions of themselves in different rooms.

A grown man becomes a frightened child around his father. A capable woman becomes a defensive victim around her mother. A calm person becomes reactive around someone who expects them to be unstable.

We call this personality.

However, often we are wittnessing a memory that got activated inside the entangled relationship.

So, the true essence of Biohacking our biology, starts in the mind.

Announcement👇

Beyond Biohacking: The Coherence Reset

July 30 – August 2

Frequency House, Topanga Canyon

Labs & testing can reveal what your body is doing.

It cannot tell you who is running your life.

Beyond Biohacking: The Coherence Reset is a private immersion for founders, executives, practitioners, creatives, and high performers who have optimized everything except the signal within.

This is where sacred meets science.

Medicine meets wisdom.

The body becomes the gateway to restore nature’s intellegence & infinate within.

We begin with the body because the body does not lie. It carries the chemistry, the memory, the adaptation, and the wisdom that thought alone cannot reach.

Over three days, we move through stabilization, revelation, recoding, and integration.

Not to chase another metric.

To meet the identity behind the metrics.

Not to perform healing.

To become available to what is true.

Apply for a free call to learn more.

Beyond Biohacking: The Coherence Reset
July 30 – August 2
Frequency House | Topanga Canyon

Sign up for a free call to know more.

book your call

Thanks for reading mark's Substack! Now the world finally has tools advanced enough to see the treasures you have been carrying.”

I did not know what to do with that.

So I just stood there.

Quiet.

A little stunned, grateful, and embarrassed by how much it touched the part of me that had not fully been recognized yet.

That is the first place I want to begin before I say anything about the book.

Because Disciple of Experience was never written to prove I could write.

It was written because I had survived enough to finally hear what was true and share it as my mission in the world !

The Room I Am No Longer In

I am no longer in the room where I almost died.

That sentence still does something to my body.

I am no longer in the three-hundred-square-foot apartment in Venice Beach where my body was shutting down from alcoholism. I am no longer lying there trying to negotiate with a life that had already stopped believing my promises. I am no longer measuring the distance between one drink and the next, one collapse and the next, one version of myself and the next.

I am sitting in a place now that was built for transformation and rehabilitation.

A real place.

Made to be informed by nature’s intelligence !

Medicine

Wood.

Canyon.

Breath.

Preparation.

Ceremony.

Integration.

A place where people do not have to disappear privately before they are allowed to become honest.

That matters to me because I know what it is to disappear inside a life that still looks successful from the outside.

I had learned the language of addiction so well that I could describe my own destruction with disturbing clarity.

I could explain the behavior, the cage, what alcoholism does to the body, the mind, the family, and the future.

What I had not seen yet was the IDENTITY that built the cage.

There is a difference between knowing what is happening to you and knowing what is fueling its roots unconsciously .

The Sentence That Cut Through Everything

During Kundalini yoga training, my teacher said something that landed harder than all the explanations I had collected.

“You are addicted to your story, and you do not even know what your story is.”

Something in me knew it was true. That sentence moved the question from behavior into identity.

Most recovery work, at least the way I had experienced it, was organized around managing the alcoholic. Naming him. Watching him. Controlling him. Preventing him from taking the wheel.

There is value in that.

But something underneath the behavior still had oxygen.

The words had become instructions.

Alcoholic, Addict, Broken.

At first, they sounded like descriptions. Eventually, my nervous system began organizing itself around them.

I became fluent in the language of my own limitation.

But, alcohol was not the original wound.

That took me a long time to admit.

In the beginning, alcohol entered my life as medicine for something I did not know how to hold.

It softened the edges of being human. It gave me a costume before I knew I was wearing one.

Then the medicine became the weapon.

The thing that once helped me cross the threshold began destroying the house.

The Illusion Machine

I spent more than thirty years in film and advertising.

That means I spent most of my adult life learning how perception works.

That was the job.

Create an image strong enough for people to feel something.

Create an illusion that felt true.

I was good at it. I was the man who knew how to make things happen.

However, inside, I was disappearing.

Addiction is only one doorway.

The book is a biography of my path, across the stations of the HERO JOURNEY…

from false identity. Perception. Illusion. Recovery. Responsibility to truth and stewardship !

When most people start thinking about retirement in their fifties, I started my second fifty-year marathon.

Not because I was trying to reinvent myself.

Because life had finally stripped away enough illusion for me to recognize the work I was actually here to do.

I had found a mission that did not require performance.

A purpose that asked for alignment.

And a life that could only be built one way.

With integrity.

What Grew From Recovery

Five rehabs treated my drinking.

They gave me tools, time, language, and another chance at life.

But the addiction to my story required a different surrender.

I had to release the belief that my suffering was the most important truth about me.

I had to stop reinforcing the identity built around the wound.

I had to become more devoted to reality than to the story that helped me survive it.

Recovery began when I became willing to stop becoming the man who needed to drink.

That realization became the beginning of Frequency.

A living ecosystem built around one question

What does a human being need in order to move from a false survival identity into coherence and integrity ?

The answer always boiled down to one thing: A PROCESS OF SUBSTRACTION

Frequency House grew from that.

It grew from the understanding that transformation is taking out what is blocking you from becoming you!

Frequency is built to hold the pillars of transformation people often rush past.

The private intake and preperation.

The readiness mapping.

The stabilization, digital detox and nervous-system regulation.

The functional , ancient and lifestyle support.

The medicine ceremony to gain clarity.

The integration back into life after the extraordinary moment.

My scars became beautiful when it stopped asking to be healed and began protecting the path for others.

That is the sentence I keep coming back to.

The hero journey is dangerous when it stays private.

A man can go through hell and come back with charisma, but charisma is not enough. A scar can become a service and purpose. A doorway someone else can walk through safely.

At Frequency, we begin before the moment everyone thinks is the main event.

We look at the person in front of us, not the fantasy of who they want to become.

We look at sleep, food, rhythm, emotional capacity, medical history, family history, spiritual readiness, and the truth of what their life can actually hold right now.

The deeper ceremonial work is approached with screening, preparation, respect, professional boundaries, and integration.

Plant medicine and mushrooms may be part of that path for some people.

The real medicine is the container, preparation is medicine, truth is medicine, nature, body, ceremony, integration community, and stewardship .

A person may come to Frequency wanting an experience.

The work is to help them become someone who can live differently after the experience has passed.

That is where identity begins to change.

Through lived behavioral change.

The Doorway

Disciple of Experience is the first doorway into that story.

If you are reading this before the book is released, I want to invite you into the beginning.

Join the pre-release list for Disciple of Experience.

Follow my Substack for excerpts, reflections, and early release notes as the book comes forward.

And if you are at a threshold in your own life, if something in you knows another round of explanation is not enough, you can apply for a private Frequency House consultation or ceramony.

We will begin where real work begins.

The old story is not gone in some dramatic way. It is quiet enough now that I can hear the house. I can hear the wind moving through the canyon. I can hear a life that no longer needs to prove it survived.

The scar is no longer bleeding.

It is holding a door open.

I am writing this from Frequency House in Topanga Canyon.

A bright sun on my skin while witnessing the vast mountains by my eye gaze, reminding me of how blessed I am to be alive.

The mountains are quiet this morning. Yet, I have learned in many ways, that the deepest truths are often found in the silence. So I cherish this kind of quiet. It does not ask anything from me but my presence.

I turn and I notice, that the birds on the trees are already awake, they celebrate, every morning signing a frequency of love back to life.

There is coffee somewhere. I will be making mine soon, I whispered to myself.

but before that, I will share a deep moment of gratitude that I had last night.

It was 11 pm, I did a last minute check in on my inbox. I saw the email, I couldnt wait till the morning. It was the editorial team at the publishing house, they sent me feedback. I could hear my heart pounding, thinking about all my years in school being told I have challanges in my ability to write. I was afraid I had missed up again, the little child in me had not yet had the opprotunity to fully heal. However, he had percevered for a greater meaning he kept walking and building a thick skin. So, I opened the email, only to find this.

wow

is this real? are they telling the truth

A beautiful friend standing next to me said, I told u you are a great teacher and a fascinating author, you write by dictating, you dont need to type to be considered an author. you were born in the wrong time, now people advanced enough to be able to see the treasures u hold! bless The room was small. My world had become smaller. Alcohol had taken over my body in a way that no amount of intelligence could outthink. I had been through rehabs. I had done therapy. I had gone to meetings. I had taken medication. I had learned the language of addiction so well that I could speak about my own destruction with disturbing clarity.

I could explain the behavior.

I could describe the cage.

I could tell you what alcoholism does to the body, the mind, the family, the future.

What I had not seen yet was the story that built the cage.

There is a difference between knowing what is happening to you and knowing what is running you.

I knew I drank.

I knew I could not stop.

I knew the consequences were real.

What I did not know was that I had become loyal to an identity I never consciously chose.

During Kundalini yoga training, my teacher said something that cut through years of explanation.

“You are addicted to your story, and you do not even know what your story is.”

I did not like hearing that.

Something in me knew it was true.

That sentence did what many programs had not been able to do. It moved the question from behavior into identity.

Most recovery work, at least the way I had experienced it, was organized around managing the alcoholic. Controlling him. Naming him. Watching him. Preventing him from taking the wheel.

There is value in that. It can save a life.

But there was something underneath the behavior that still had oxygen.

The words had become instructions.

Alcoholic.

Addict.

Broken.

Hopeless.

Failure.

At first, they sounded like descriptions. Eventually, my nervous system began organizing itself around them. I became fluent in the language of my own limitation. I could stand in a room and say the truth about what I had done, while still not knowing who I was beneath the name I kept repeating.

Alcohol was not the original wound.

That took me a long time to admit.

In the beginning, alcohol entered my life as medicine for something I did not know how to hold. It quieted the trembling. It helped me step into rooms. It gave me access to a version of myself I believed the world would accept. It softened the edges of being human. It gave me a costume before I knew I was wearing one.

Then the medicine became the weapon.

The thing that once helped me cross the threshold began destroying the house.

I spent more than thirty years in film and advertising. I knew how to shape perception. Image. Light. Music. Movement. Timing. Story. I knew how to make a hamburger feel like desire, a car feel like freedom, a house feel like arrival.

That was my work.

We created illusions that felt true.

I was good at it.

Eventually, I had to face the fact that the same machinery had worked on me.

The outside of my life had images that made sense. Success. Creativity. Industry. Movement. A man who knew how to make things happen.

Inside, I was disappearing.

The deepest illusion was not success.

It was pain.

The pain was real. The collapse was real. The consequences were real. People were hurt. My body was hurt. My life was hurt.

The illusion began when pain became the person I believed I was.

That is a dangerous thing.

Pain can become a religion if you keep bowing to it.

Recovery began to change when I stopped asking only, “How do I control the alcoholic?”

I began asking different questions.

Who am I without him?

What was he protecting?

What did drinking make possible before it began destroying me?

What remains when I stop feeding the identity?

Those questions did not give me a clean answer. They gave me work.

One thought at a time.

People say one day at a time. I understand that. I lived that. But a day is built from thousands of thoughts. Some carry truth. Some carry fear. Some belong to an old identity trying to survive. Some arrive like small knives. Some arrive like old friends. Some are not yours at all. They are inherited, rehearsed, branded into the body through repetition.

I had to learn which thoughts were building a life and which ones were rebuilding the cage.

This is part of what Decibel of Experience is about.

People may think it is a book about addiction. It is. But addiction is only one doorway.

The book is about identity.

Perception.

Illusion.

The body.

The stories we become loyal to because they once helped us survive.

It is about the strange human capacity to build a prison from language, then call it truth. It is about what happens when a man survives the movie and finally learns how to see the projector.

Frequency House was born from that seeing.

I did not set out to build a brand. I had no interest in decorating my scar and calling it wisdom.

Life had already stripped me of that.

Frequency came from the understanding that transformation without a container can become another kind of chaos. I know what happens when people chase intensity without readiness. I know what happens when someone touches the truth too fast and then returns to ordinary life with no integration, no structure, no community, no way to make the revelation livable.

Frequency is built to hold the parts of transformation that people often rush past.

Readiness.

The body.

The nervous system.

The story.

The environment.

The ceremony.

The return.

The life after the opening.

The wound became beautiful when it stopped asking to be healed and began protecting the path for others.

That is the sentence I keep coming back to.

Because the hero journey is dangerous when it stays private. A man can go through hell and come back with charisma, but charisma is not enough. A scar can become a performance. A story can become a stage. Pain can become another costume.

The work begins to mature when the scar becomes a doorway someone else can walk through safely.

At Frequency, that means we begin before the moment everyone thinks is the main event.

We begin with private intake and readiness mapping. We look at the person in front of us, not the fantasy of who they want to become. We look at stabilization. We look at detoxification where appropriate. We look at sleep, food, rhythm, nervous-system safety, emotional capacity, lifestyle, medical history, family history, and the truth of what their life can actually hold right now.

The deeper ceremonial work is approached with screening, preparation, respect, professional boundaries, and integration. Plant medicine and mushrooms may be part of that path for some people, but they are never treated as the whole medicine. I do not glamorize medicine. I have seen what happens when people do.

The real medicine is the container.

Preparation is medicine.

Readiness is medicine.

Truth is medicine.

Nature is medicine.

The body is medicine.

Ceremony is medicine.

Integration is medicine.

Community is medicine.

Responsibility is medicine.

Stewardship is medicine.

A person may come to Frequency wanting an experience. The work is to help them become someone who can live differently after the experience has passed.

That is where identity begins to change.

Not through a slogan.

Through lived evidence.

A man who believed he could not speak the truth tells the truth and survives.

A woman who believed she had to perform to be loved allows her body to be held in safety without performing.

Someone who has built an entire life around control lets the mountain, the breath, the fire, the group, and the silence show them another way to exist.

The nervous system learns through proof.

The identity changes when the body has enough evidence to stop defending the old story.

That is why integration is not an afterthought here. It is the path. We help people return to ordinary life with the work still alive in their hands. Relationships. Food. Sleep. Work. Desire. Money. Boundaries. Service. Tribe. Continuity.

Eventually the question becomes stewardship.

What will you do with the life that is returning to you?

That question matters more to me now than the story of how far I fell.

By the time I met Dr. Maryam Iris, Frequency had already been built from what life carved into me. I had already become a medicine facilitator. I already knew my scar had become medicine.

What I had not fully seen was its beauty.

Maryam arrived from a country on the other side of the world with a medical eye, a language of wholeness, and a deep relationship with gentleness, beauty, and stewardship. She saw something in the work that I had lived so closely I could not name it clearly.

Beautiful Medicine.

She did not make the scar medicinal. Life had already done that. Our meeting helped me understand why the medicine was beautiful.

That collaboration is not romantic. It is sacred in the way real work can be sacred when two people recognize a larger assignment and choose to serve it with clean hands.

Beautiful Medicine gave language to what Frequency had been practicing in the dirt, in the house, in the ceremony room, in the conversations after the ceremony, in the quiet mornings when someone realizes the world did not change overnight, but their relationship to it did.

There is a kind of beauty that does not decorate pain.

It organizes it into service.

That is where I am writing from now.

Decibel of Experience is the first doorway into that story.

It is not a manual. It is not a polished recovery speech. It is not an attempt to make suffering look noble.

It is a record of what I heard by living close to the edge for too long.

A decibel is a measure of intensity.

Experience has a sound.

Addiction had a sound.

Shame had a sound.

The film world had a sound.

The rooms I almost did not leave had a sound.

Recovery has a quieter sound.

So does truth.

So does the moment an old identity stops screaming because it realizes no one is feeding it anymore.

If you are reading this before the book is released, I want to invite you into the beginning. Join the pre-release list for Decibel of Experience. Follow the Frequency House Substack for excerpts, reflections, and early release notes as the book comes forward.

And if you are at a threshold in your own life, if something in you knows that another round of explanation is not enough, you can apply for a private Frequency House consultation. We will begin where real work begins.

With readiness.

With truth.

With the body.

With what your life can actually hold.

The mountains are still quiet as I finish this.

My body is breathing.

The old story is not gone in some dramatic way. It is quiet enough now that I can hear the house. I can hear the wind moving through the canyon. I can hear a life that no longer needs to prove it survived.

The scar is no longer bleeding.

It is holding a door open.

Thanks for reading mark's Substack! It reflects blue.

A table is not solid the way your hand thinks it is. It is movement. Atoms. A dance so fast the mind calls it still.

And still we walk around so certain.

Certain of constructed illusions covering about who we are.
Certain of stories about what happened.
Certain about why we cannot change, covering humanity’s deep need to be seen and belong.
Certain about the things they believe that keeps proving itself every time they wake up only to obey it again.

Now, you are going to walk on my map, hold my sword and listen to what I say

I left that meeting, without agenda or commission or even love by mysid holding my hand

I had to show up, and stand while walking , breathing my pain into alchemy of my rebirth to my purpose

My meeting with truth, is who I am now becoming and sharing and serving, so we all can be rescued from the pain of being a film maker into the purpose of walking the paradoxical path of truth

Deep inside, I know that the life I lived is my preperation

I spent thirty years in the business of illusion.

Camera. Light. Lens. Music. Movement.

I knew how to make something feel more true than it was. That was the job. Make the burger look like desire. Make the car look like freedom. Make the house look like arrival. Make the life look like something worth chasing.

I was good at it. I was a master in creating illusions that felt so real. So innocent honesty can keep dragging humanity down the abyss of suffering.

Then one day I had to admit the machine had worked on me too. I was not only building illusion.I was living inside one that ended me on that apartment at Venice beach.

And looking back now, the most convincing illusion was not success, It was pain.

That one is harder to talk about because people get protective around pain. They think if you question the role pain has taken in your life, you are saying the pain was not real.

The pain was real.

That is how it happens sometimes. A man builds something to feel free, then one day he realizes he is waking up every morning to feed it. The overhead. The calls. The flights. The shoots. The performance of being the man who can handle it.

I could handle almost everything except the silence.

The silence had one question.

What is this actually for?

I did not have an answer.

So I drank.

That is the honest beginning of this path, that ended me, to begin again when I was granted the grace of meeting the truth.

Now back to what truth is teaching me… I will be sharing more about it with you so we can join forces and steward its frequency for a life worth living and to raise to the integrity to gift a world that is not filled with the traps of endless voids of suffering for our children

when you walk this road, You begin to wonder what else is only a reflection.

The life.

The identity.

The diagnosis.

The success.

The wound.

The name people keep giving you until your nervous system starts obeying it.

Alcoholic.

Addict.

Broken.

Problem.

Failure.

I heard those names enough times that they became more than descriptions. They became instructions.

And the more power you gave them, the more my life organized around them. Because you are too a film maker and everything is an obedient cast and crew.

That is one of the things the old treatment rehab world still struggles to understand. A person can hate the habit and still remain loyal to the identity that created it. He can want sobriety and still protect the life that keeps reaching for the next drink. He can sit in a room and say all the right things while the deeper program keeps running untouched.

Following the honesty map, I walked into a world of failed attempts to heal…

I went through tons of rehabs.

Years of therapy.

Programs. Meetings. Medication. Every version of help that was supposed to point me toward freedom.

Some of it helped. Some of it kept me alive long enough to find the real work.

But most of it stayed on the surface of the behavior.

The drinking.

The relapse.

The symptom.

The diagnosis.

The problem.

The world kept circling the thing I wanted to stop doing. I got so angry at myself and hated the illusion and confused by the misery despite efforts

But my honest desire and actions to quite drinking was not the whole truth, so it didnt work.

The drinking belonged to a story.

And I was living inside that story like it was reality.

That is the trap.

We are all living inside a private film of our making.

Some films are dramatic. Some are beautiful. Some are inherited. Some were written so early we do not remember agreeing to the role.

The wounded one.

The strong one.

The misunderstood one.

The one who always gives.

The one who cannot change.

The one who is dangerous.

The one who is too far gone.

The one who keeps proving life is unsafe because safety would require a new script.

And if we play the painful role long enough, the world knows how to gather around us.

There are rooms for suffering.

There are names for it.

Protocols.

Sympathy.

Attention.

Care.

Sometimes money.

Sometimes belonging.

Sometimes connection that only exists as long as we stay on our knees.

This is difficult to say without being misunderstood.

The pain is real.

The wound is real.

The collapse is real.

The consequences are real.

But the identity that grows around pain can begin collecting rewards.

Misery has an economy. So it is so hard to shatter

except through facing the sword of truth, on your knees knowing that you have nothing to lose more than losing your truth

then this devotion to truth will rise you high, restore you back and introduce you to the paradox of eden waiting for you to unlock it when you standing in integrity

You will find your path in the truth of these gardens, but hold onto your fuel to keep standing.

that fuel is trust.

I found my purpose path, and that path is called Frequency.

It is not built around managing symptoms. It is built around shattering the illusions, rewriting the story beneath the suffering, then living in a way that reveals the new story true.

The story lives in the body. It lives in the nervous system. It lives in the habits.

It lives in the rooms we keep entering, the people we keep choosing, the thoughts we keep rehearsing, the environments that keep confirming the old self.

You cannot think your way into a new life while living inside the same field that keeps feeding the old one.

A new story needs a new body practice.

A new rhythm.

A new standard.

A new relationship with attention.

A new relationship with discomfort.

A new relationship with truth.

Pain is not automatically wisdom.

I have seen people suffer for years and learn nothing except how to suffer with better language.

Pain becomes instruction only when it is met without worship.

Only when a person stops dragging it behind him for sympathy and begins asking what it came to sharpen.

What it came to remove.

What it came to prepare.

Some pain should never have happened.

I will not romanticize that.

But when pain has already arrived, and you are still here, there is a question left in the ashes.

Will this become the prison, or will this become the forge?

The forge thickens the skin, it does not harden the heart.

As for hardness is just another form of fear.

The skin I mean is different.

It is the kind that can steward a dream without needing constant understanding or validation from others.

The kind that can meet jealousy without shrinking.

The kind that can be misunderstood without needing to overexplain.

The kind that can hold tenderness without collapsing into the old need to be rescued.

A real dream is not decoration for a collapsing home.

It is responsibility.

It asks for discipline after inspiration has left the room.

It asks for the next right step when nobody is watching.

That is what the road prepared me for.

Not to look healed.

To become useful.

and that is the place frequency stands, in the intersection between sacred healing using plant medicine carrying the frequency of that sword of truth meeting the quantum biohacking and habit change collectively facilitating a rehabilitation journey that does not treat a problem but shatter the illusion that created it so you can see who you are? why you are here? and what is your next right step? with my support and guidance so the path becomes safe and your healing becomes your rebirth into your gardens of truth and path of integrity & health and purpose.

To walk inside frequency, and experience the healing, tons of clients reported that their life has been completely transformed .

we ensure daily that the house maintains truth frequency so it delivers a service where people can step out of the noise long enough to hear what is actually running them and controls their lives.

The frequency house is a place where nature remembers what modern life keeps interrupting. it is a place where a person is not treated as a diagnosis, a customer, or a broken thing waiting to be fixed.

Instead, our goal is to work with our clients as brothers and sisters to restore their original signal and help their bodies rise in health and integrity so they begin to come through again walking their purpose and belonging as a community in the paradox of beauty and wonder.

That is Frequency House, it delivers a holistic and scientific deep work and pioneering quantum technologies for potent medicinal mushrooms within the retreats, the protocols, the habit change, and the transformational experiences that are effective treatments to many of our modern day ailments .

At our core, we do not believe people are broken. We believe many people are living inside programs they did not consciously choose. And we know the map to biohack those programs and shatter the illusion of suffering.

As liberation, is the true gift we deliver through the frequency of truth.

and remember that does not erase the past. But it shows you that the past no longer gets to write the future because it is does not exist outside of your brain.

So, cut the noise and let it be.

And now the work begins. Welcome to the ride of mastery!

Thanks for reading mark's Substack!
