The market took it badly anyway. The Bitcoin Index sits at $78,272, the AI Index dropped 8% on the week and Fear and Greed reads 37. I read this as a security reset, and I think the fear is running ahead of the damage. The weakest link was a person, and that is fixable.

Here’s what’s inside this week:

• ETH and the AI Index on the 3D: ETH lost $2,350 and the AI Index gave back the whole move on its way to $45.

• The $6.3B Binance hack under the spotlight: the cryptography held, and that is exactly why the HACK ETF is on my radar.

• Hyperliquid in the article of the week: product first, token second, and why that is how real value gets built in crypto.

• Don’t miss: the FBI pinning the Binance hack on North Korea, plus Bank of America’s maths on a Tesla and SpaceX merger.

ETH lost the main $2,350 support on this shakeout and keeps struggling with the local downtrend. Price sits at $2,240, with $2,150 as the next line and the $1,800 and $1,520 bands below that. Until ETH reclaims $2,350, I am not interested. Back above it, $2,800 and $3,400 are the resistances that matter:

The AI Index retraced the whole move and is heading back to the main $45 support, still unable to break the 2 month downtrend from the late September high near $70. The $45.5 band is the line for me. Lose it and $42 then $38 open up, while a break of the downtrend puts $55.5 and $66.5 back on the table:

Binance got hit for $6.3B. How I'm reading it

Binance just confirmed the biggest hack in crypto history. Roughly $6.3B left its hot wallets, and Binance says it will cover every dollar. About $3B is already frozen on chain, with Tether, Circle and Ripple freezing funds as they moved.

Nobody cracked Bitcoin. Binance says the likely entry point was a compromised engineer’s laptop. The cryptography held. The people and the software around it broke.

Why AI changes the math

Look at point 5 on the HACK chart below. Oct 19 kicked off what the security world now calls Black October. AI models found critical flaws in PHP, the language behind roughly 70% of websites, bugs that had been sitting there for decades. Exploit attempts showed up before the patch even shipped.

That’s my real worry. AI makes finding holes cheap and fast, and attackers get the same tools defenders do. Exchanges run on the same web stack as everyone else, so their attack surface just got a lot bigger.

Bitcoin is the canary

The quantum chart below is the longer clock. A big enough quantum computer would break the same signature math that protects Bitcoin, websites, bank payments, digital IDs, app updates and your saved chats. About 6.26M BTC already sit in wallets with exposed public keys. NIST wants that math phased out by 2030 and banned by 2035.

I’m not losing sleep over it. If quantum breaks Bitcoin, it breaks your bank the same week. Bitcoin’s edge is that the upgrade debate happens in public, with a deadline everyone can see. Banks will patch quietly and hope nobody asks.

What crypto should do (and what you should do)

1. Keep long term holdings off exchanges. Trade there, store elsewhere.

2. Use a hardware wallet and don’t reuse addresses. A fresh address keeps your public key hidden until you spend.

3. Exchanges need to treat every staff laptop like a vault door: air gapped signing, multisig approvals, delays on big hot wallet moves and real time anomaly alerts.

4. Bitcoin needs a post quantum upgrade path agreed well before 2030, because coordinating miners, wallets and exchanges takes years.

5. Expect phishing for weeks. Binance will never DM you a “refund” link.

Why the HACK ETF is on my radar

HACK is the Amplify Cybersecurity ETF, a basket of companies that sell security. It went from $80.37 at the start of 2026 to $129.57, up 61.2% YTD, after a lowest monthly close of $73.16 in late February.

Now go back to the dots on the HACK chart. The Stryker wiper attack in March and the $387.5M Bitget hack in September barely moved the price. The run started after the AI security headlines: Claude Code Security in February, Project Glasswing in April, then June ripped. Price follows defense budgets, and those budgets grow when boards get scared.

Be patient, stay safe and don’t bend to doomers.

Hyperliquid: product first, token second

Most crypto projects start with a token and go looking for a use case afterwards. Hyperliquid built the product first, and I think that is the whole lesson. It went after a real problem, found users, and only then gave them a token.

Learning from FTX

The story starts in 2022, in one of the worst bear markets crypto has ever had. FTX had just collapsed and exposed the industry’s biggest contradiction: an ecosystem built around decentralization still depended on centralized intermediaries to trade.

That is the moment Jeff Yan, a former quant trader, and his team picked to start. The plan was to pair the speed and liquidity of a centralized exchange with the transparency and self-custody of DeFi. They skipped the usual route of launching one more exchange on someone else’s blockchain and built their own infrastructure, designed for trading from day one.

Product before token

The business philosophy is the part I find most interesting.

Plenty of crypto projects fund development by selling tokens to VCs. Hyperliquid built the product and attracted users who generated real economic activity. Only then did it launch HYPE, distributing about 31% of total supply to the people who had actually used the platform.

The revenue is real too. Users pay trading fees, and a big chunk of that revenue goes into buying back HYPE, which ties the platform’s activity directly to the token.

A new financial infrastructure

The ambition goes well past competing with Binance or Bybit. With its own blockchain and HyperEVM, Hyperliquid wants to become a layer that other financial apps and markets build on.

It still has real work to do on decentralization and regulation, and the competition is not standing still. Growth on the platform also does not make HYPE a good buy at any price. A great product and a good entry are two separate questions.

Final thoughts

Whatever happens to the token, Hyperliquid shows how value actually gets created in this industry. In a market where selling a narrative often pays better than shipping a product, it did the opposite. Next time a project pitches you a token before it shows you users, ask where the fees come from.

FBI Blames North Korea for Binance Hack

The FBI took two days to name the thief, and the name tells you where this money goes next.

• The FBI says North Korea was behind the theft of about $6.3 billion from Binance on Thursday, under the activity it calls “TraderTraitor”

• The hackers are converting the stolen assets mostly into Ether, and the FBI expects more laundering through DeFi and instant swap services

• The agency asked the private sector to block the laundering addresses, naming THORNode operators, RPC node operators, instant exchanges, DeFi services and blockchain analytics firms. The full address list is in the FBI release

• North Korea-linked hackers took about 60% of the value lost to crypto hacks in 2025, according to CertiK: more than $2 billion of an estimated $3.4 billion, across 79 of 656 incidents

• Between 2016 and early 2026, North Korea-linked actors stole an estimated $6.75 billion across 263 documented incidents, per CertiK citing onchain researcher Taylor Monahan

CertiK says North Korea has industrialized crypto theft into a core state revenue mechanism, and I agree. One hack just matched nearly a decade of their previous haul, so expect swap services and DeFi rails to face far more pressure to police flows.

Tesla and SpaceX merger math just shifted in Tesla’s favor

A few weeks ago I said to read the exchange ratio before the headlines. The market just moved it for you.

• Bank of America sees an all-stock deal with SpaceX buying Tesla as the logical structure, with Tesla holders getting new SpaceX shares. At Oct 20 prices and no premium, Tesla holders would own 42.4%

• Analyst Alexander Perry expects Tesla’s special committee to push for a premium. At 20% that means about $449 a share and 46.9% of the combined company, at 30% about $486 and 48.9%, and Musk would still keep 51.6% of the vote

• The market already handed Tesla holders part of that premium. Tesla closed at $399.81 on Oct 30 while SpaceX fell 6.4% to $134.72, which TheStreet works out to 2.97 SpaceX shares per Tesla share and about 46% ownership with no premium

• The strategic case rests on shared costs, led by Terafab, the joint chip project Musk expects to cost more than $100bn long term. SpaceX has already bought $626 million of Tesla Megapacks this year

• The vote and China could still stop it. Approval needs a majority of all outstanding Tesla shares, and the Shanghai plant builds roughly half of Tesla’s global output. Bloomberg reported a push to announce a deal by the first half of 2027

Perry forecasts Tesla burning $4.6 billion of free cash flow this year and $11.3 billion in 2027. A cash-hungry Tesla hands SpaceX the upper hand at the table, so I would wait for an actual ratio on paper before paying up for TSLA on merger hopes.

That is a new one for a prospectus, IMO. Meanwhile Fidelity drew Bitcoin’s power law floor at $56,488, and the French 10-year touched its highest yield since 2002. I think the market is pricing fear in the wrong places. I am buying the floor.

Here’s what’s inside this week:

• XRP and SOL on the 3D: XRP is clinging to $1.3 and SOL to $98, and neither has printed the reversal yet.

• Fidelity’s Bitcoin power law chart under the spotlight: the support line sits at $56,488, and I think the bottom is in.

• Peter Lynch on cutting the flowers and watering the weeds: why your entry price is the worst reason to hold a loser.

• Don’t miss: Anthropic’s 90 pages of risk factors ahead of its Nasdaq debut, plus France dodging a Moody’s downgrade with yields near 5%.

XRP is fighting to defend the $1.3 support but cannot trigger the reversal for now. Price sits around $1.31 on the $1.28 to $1.30 band, still capped by the local downtrend from the $1.65 October high. Hold the band and break that trendline, and $1.85 then $2.65 come back into play. Lose it and $1.05 is the next real support:

Similar setup on SOL, fighting to defend the key $98 range after the rejection at $125. Price is hugging $100 under a short-term downtrend from the October high. This band has to hold. Reclaim $125 and the road opens to $180 and $245. Lose it and $80, then $72, are next:

Fidelity just published the Bitcoin power law chart

Forget the anon accounts on X. This chart comes from Fidelity Investments, with data from FMRCo, Bloomberg and Haver Analytics. When their research desk puts a power law support line on Bitcoin, the biggest allocators on the planet are using the same model we have been trading for years.

Quick read of the chart:

Every single cycle bottom since 2010 has landed right on the orange support line. Not once has Bitcoin closed a week below it in 16 years

That support line is at $56,488 today and it climbs every week

Both bottom indicators on the chart are flashing the same readings they showed at the 2018 and 2022 lows. Every time they looked like this, BTC went on to make a new all time high

Fidelity labeled this zone with two words: accumulation zone. The last two times that label appeared, we were 18 months from a 5x

Why altcoins are ready to catch up

Alt total market cap, excluding BTC, is sitting near $1.06T. That is the same level as the April 2025 bottom. Alts have been in their own bear market for over a year.

Here is the setup I am watching:

BTC dominance has been stuck in a 58% to 61% range since August 2025. It has rejected above 60% four times. A weekly close under 59.6% opens the rotation

The Altcoin Season Index spiked from 14 in December to 61 in early October. A jump like that only happened at the start of the 2021 and 2024 rotations

Leverage got flushed. Open interest on alts is at multi year lows, which means thin books and violent upside once bids return

I think the first 2 to 3 months after BTC confirms the bottom will be the best window for alts in this entire cycle. We are building the list in premium right now.

Key drivers for a bullish 2027

Pre halving year. The next halving lands in April 2028. 2027 is the equivalent of 2019 and 2023, both years where BTC did 2x to 3x off the bottom before the halving

Spot ETF flows. Fidelity, BlackRock and friends have turned Bitcoin into a standard line item in model portfolios. The same desks are now publishing accumulation charts. Flows follow research with a lag

AI x crypto. The GPU and compute demand from AI is pushing capital into DePIN, decentralized compute and tokenized infrastructure. That narrative barely existed in 2021

Bottom line

$56,488 is the floor, and it rises every week. I am accumulating above it, and a weekly close under 59.6% BTC dominance is my trigger to start rotating into alts.

Peter Lynch: cutting the flowers and watering the weeds

Peter Lynch put it better than anyone: “Selling your winners and holding your losers is like cutting the flowers and watering the weeds.” I think it describes the most common mistake in investing, the one where we take profits too fast and sit on losers for too long, hoping they come back.

It sounds like a gardening tip. The real lesson has much less to do with market analysis and much more to do with our own psychology.

The problem with selling what works

Say you buy two stocks for $1,000 each. A few months later one is up 40% and the other is down 30%. What do you do?

Most investors feel the urge to sell the first and lock in that $400 profit, while holding the second until it gets back to their entry price. That decision runs on the entry price instead of what each stock is likely to do next.

The winner could be building a long-term uptrend, with improving fundamentals and plenty of room to run. The loser could be pricing in a structural deterioration in its business. Yet we sell the first because we are making money and keep the second because we do not want to admit a loss.

That is exactly what Lynch described. Cut the flowers. Keep watering the weeds.

Your entry price does not decide the future

The bias behind all this is loss aversion. In general, losing money hurts more than making the same amount feels good.

So we hold the losing position instead of realizing the loss. Selling means admitting the original call did not work out, while holding keeps the hope of getting back to even alive. Your entry price is part of your history as an investor. It has zero say in where the market goes next.

Lynch understood that exceptional returns come from letting good investments develop over time. His famous tenbaggers, stocks that went up tenfold, would be nearly impossible to catch if you sold every position after a 20% or 30% gain.

Patience and stubbornness are different things

None of this means holding every winner forever. That would be a different philosophy from Lynch’s.

The rule is simpler and harder: keep checking whether the reasons you bought are still valid. Never sell a stock just because it went up, and never dump one automatically because it went down. This is where something we hammer on in every analysis comes in. Have a plan. Setting targets, identifying invalidation levels and managing risk keeps emotions from driving every decision.

Being right on every investment was never the goal. The goal is to make the most of it when you are right and keep the damage small when you are wrong. Open your book tonight. If you are holding something only because of what you paid for it, that is a weed.

Anthropic warns of ‘catastrophic risk’ to humankind ahead of its IPO

Anthropic spent 90 pages telling investors what could go wrong, then asked them for a valuation bigger than SpaceX’s.

• The filing says advanced AI could pose catastrophic or existential risks to humanity “if not developed, deployed, and operated with appropriate safeguards, oversight, and security measures”, across about 90 pages of risk factors

• Anthropic will list on the Nasdaq under the symbol ANT, the first fully AI-focused company to go public. Its valuation is expected to exceed SpaceX’s, which listed in the summer at $1.8 trillion

• The Claude developer reported $16.3bn of revenue in the first half of the year, with losses of more than $80.7bn. No share count, price range or date has been disclosed yet

• It flagged its reliance on a cluster of cloud providers, Taiwanese chipmakers already facing huge demand and US-concentrated data centres. On the same day, the owners of Elvis Presley’s music rights sued it for training Claude on hundreds of his songs

• OpenAI followed with its own listing plans and is now expected to go public early next year

The company says it aims to be “bold but sane”. The gap between $16.3bn of revenue and $80.7bn of losses in six months is what the IPO price has to justify. How ANT trades on day one will tell us how much appetite is left for funding AI at any cost.

France spared a Moody’s downgrade as the bond selloff eases

Moody’s blinked, and the bond market took the gift.

• Moody’s kept France at Aa3 late on Friday. The rating assumes a deficit-reducing budget in 2027 and that financing costs and social tensions ease over the next few months

• The French 10-year yield fell to 4.976%, after hitting 5.1415% on Thursday, the highest since June 2002

• The spread over Germany tightened to 161 bps, after its widest level since 2011 last week

• German 10-year Bunds yield 3.357%. They were a main beneficiary of last week’s flight to safety, as global investors started to question the sustainability of AI data centre capex

• The ECB decides on Thursday and is expected to hold, with markets watching how closely Lagarde is tracking the selloff in French and other indebted euro zone debt

A rating that assumes a fragmented parliament will pass a deficit cut right before a presidential election is a hope with a letter grade on it. One avoided downgrade does nothing about a core euro zone sovereign paying close to 5% for 10-year money. Watch Thursday. If Lagarde sounds relaxed about long-end yields, I would expect this relief to fade fast.
