Make sure the water is running HOT at your kitchen sink before running your dishwasher. Most dishwashers in the U.S. and Canada are connected to the hot water line under your kitchen sink, so if the water is hot at your sink, it’s the right temperature for your dishwasher.

2. SCRAPE food off of your dishes into the compost or trash before loading them into your dishwasher, but DON’T RINSE completely! Leaving drips and crumbs on your dishes can actually help improve your dishwasher’s cleaning performance.

3. Keep your dishwasher CLEAN. Run a citric acid-based dishwasher cleaning product (like Affresh, Lemi Shine, Glisten, etc.) through your dishwasher once a month and clean your dishwasher’s filter once a month (or as needed) according to the directions in your dishwasher’s manual.

4. LOAD your dishwasher correctly. The correct way to load your dishwasher will vary based on the design, and most dishwasher manufacturers include diagrams showing how to load your specific model of dishwasher correctly. The basic idea is to make sure the dirty part of the dishes faces the water spray, and to avoid blocking the spray arms from moving or the detergent dispenser from opening.

5. Use a GOOD QUALITY dishwasher detergent. The cheap stuff costs less money, but that comes at the expense of cleaning performance. The best cleaning performance comes from detergents that include BOTH bleaching agents AND enzymes, so make sure you check the ingredients!

#dishwasher #cleaning #dishes #kitchen #ApplianceRepair

How I Built My Discord Server in 1 Week

The origin story of my Discord server!

Renae (“renduh”)

The origin story of my Discord server! Unless your dishwasher is over 20 years old or is a very basic, “budget” model, it probably has a turbidity sensor. A turbidity sensor measures how much debris is in the water and adjusts the cycle accordingly. Rinsing your dishes can “confuse” your turbidity sensor. For example, if you have a dishwasher full of rinsed-off dishes but add one casserole dish that has a bunch of baked-on food that needs longer to be cleaned, the turbidity sensor reading may not be accurate and the dishwasher won’t run for long enough to clean off all of that baked-on food.

2. Because dishwasher detergent ingredients are designed to break down food particles, they will work as designed whether or not there’s food for them to work on. This means if there’s too much detergent and not enough food, the detergent can begin eating away at other things, like glassware. If you frequently run loads of only pre-rinsed dishes through your dishwasher, glassware can become permanently “etched” over time.

#dishwasher #cleaning #ApplianceRepair #kitchen #dishes

5 Things You Can Do to Make Your Appliances Work Better & Last Longer

The article version of the video by the same name!

Renae (“renduh”)

1. Clean them.

Lots of people don’t realize they need to clean the cleaning appliances so that they’ll clean better, but it’s the truth. If you struggle to get your dishes to come out clean from your dishwasher or your laundry to come out clean from your washing machine and you’ve never cleaned it before, that’s probably why.

2. Use them the way they’re designed to be used.

Most appliance manuals can be found online for free by entering in the model number listed on a sticker applied directly to the appliance itself. If you’ve never read–or even skimmed–the manual for your appliances, there’s a really good chance you’re doing something that could be shortening the life of it. Taking a few minutes to flip through your appliance’s manual to make sure you’re using it the way it’s designed to be used can save you a lot of time, money, and sanity.

3. Check to make sure your appliances are installed correctly.

It doesn’t matter how correctly you’re using your appliance–if it’s installed incorrectly, it’s not being used as designed, which can lead to a malfunction in the appliance. For example, if the drain hose in a washing machine is installed too far down into the plumbing, it can cause the washing machine to siphon dirty water back into the machine. This installation error can cause bad smells in the washing machine that won’t go away, no matter how much and how often you clean it, because you’re treating the symptom of the issue and not the cause. Until the incorrect installation is resolved, the problem will persist.

And don’t blindly trust appliance installers–they’re human and make mistakes just like everyone else!

4. Have them repaired when they need to be repaired.

The longer you continue using an appliance when it has an issue, the more expensive the repair can be. For example, if your dryer is squeaking, it’s likely caused by one of several different parts, most of which involve bearings. The longer you let that issue continue, it can begin to affect the other parts as well, because these parts are all connected. If one part isn’t performing correctly, allowing it to continue running with a faulty part puts more stress on the other parts and wears them out sooner.

5. Pay attention to your appliances!

People often take for granted the machines that we rely on every day. In a world where some washing machines have wi-fi and some refrigerators have cameras and microphones inside of them, we often forget that these machines that do so much for us also rely on us to continue reliably functioning. If you pay attention to how your appliances are working and how to use and care for them correctly, you’ll be much happier with the way they perform!

Thanks for reading! Appliance use and care isn’t formally taught in most countries, and not everyone is mechanically inclined enough to “just figure it out”. That’s where my content comes in!

When I was working as an appliance repair tech, I saw firsthand just how many people don’t know how to use and care for their appliances correctly. In my opinion, this is a failing of our society as a whole. Knowledge of how to use and care for appliances is commonly ONLY passed down from parent to child (and often is only passed down from mother to daughter in households that believe that only women should do housework), so it only takes one family to neglect this knowledge for the generations after them to struggle unless they seek this information out on their own.

And just a friendly reminder--”common sense” is a MYTH perpetuated by those who take pride in feeling superior to others. It is an inherently biased concept that does not represent everyone and does more harm than good.

#ApplianceRepair #Laundry #Kitchen #WashingMachine #Dishwasher

A Funny ADHD Story...

It’s funny, but it’s also annoying. :)

Renae (“renduh”)

I am not a mental health expert or professional; I’m just sharing my own personal experiences living with ADHD. I received MANY customer compliments and had customers requesting me when they called the company I worked for to book a service call.

…

It’s NORMAL to find a little bit of water in your dispenser drawer compartment(s) at the end of a cycle. This is why it’s important to remove and dry out the detergent dispenser when you’re done using your washing machine for the day, otherwise mold can develop. It’s NOT normal to find detergent, fabric softener, etc. in the dispenser compartments at the end of a cycle. This usually indicates either a blockage in the dispenser (which needs to be cleaned), or an issue with the dispenser filling correctly (which needs to be serviced by an appliance repair tech).

…

My apologies to the commenter who asked the original question (that this comment was a reply to) for not responding until 3 years later, but I genuinely didn’t see it until now. The video the comment was left on was posted in 2021, their comment was left in 2023, and the bad tech’s reply to their comment was left earlier this week. I don’t always check comments on older videos because I already have so many to sort through as it is, and it may have been left at a time that a more current video of mine was getting a large influx of comments, so my notifications were flooded and it got missed. Basically what I’m trying to say is that I wasn’t ignoring it; I just literally didn’t see it until now, and that’s probably why.

#ApplianceRepair #WashingMachine #Laundry #FabricSoftener #Cleaning
