This week for The Economics Show with Soumaya Keynes (that’s me) I interviewed Bernd Lange, the head of the European Parliament’s trade committee. (A big cheese.)

I asked him what he thought of a spicy new proposal from the French president and German chancellor for a tool to counter potential Chinese coercion. The anti-coercion instrument is the tool the EU already has to counter potential Chinese coercion.

My column this week was about the EU and China tussling for the UK car market. I made a lot of charts. Too many? Maybe! But also look how much UK car production has fallen over the past few years!

And look at how China’s share of the UK market is climbing!

This week I also went to Brussels for the Bruegel book launch of How to Win a Trade War, and stopped by at the Waterstones there to sign copies. Here is some photographic evidence, which also reveals that I grip my pen in a non-standard way:

On Thursday at 1pm I’ll be doing an FT “Ask an Expert” session with my brilliant colleague and fellow trade nerd Alan Beattie. My understanding is that if you type in questions, Alan and I will type back answers.

I’ll be doing some in-person events this week too for How to Win a Trade War, including at Cambridge (5pm Monday, open to Cambridge students only), Oxford (430pm Tuesday, open to the public) and UCL (330pm Thursday, waiting list only).
