Wherever you find two or three marketers gathered, one way to elicit gists of sweet or bitter experiences is to ask if they would prefer to work with an agency or be on the client side. Regardless of which side of the aisle you fall into, one thing is certain: marketing may nearly drive you mad.

If you think coding or vibecoding a groundbreaking app is all you need to be the market’s darling, we hate to break it to you: you may still have to dance on Instagram. That aside, does anyone pay attention to the details of promotional content on bank apps?

Advertising might be a race after all. A race to out-advertise the last advertising effort, which, frankly, is a whole lot of advertising. And if that last bar was set very high, the new expectations will be even higher. But in every race, you win some and lose some.

Block 4, street 97

Spoiler: we’ve got Claude-shaming on this block. Yeah, we know, it is not ending soon. But on the bright side, there is a non-linear career pathway that may inspire you!

Omawumi sang a song the other time that goes, “If you ask me…”

2.

Maybe you’ll dislike the interruptions enough to remember the product.

3.

You just have to respect the career ladders that have never been laddered before. It’s the kind of versatility you only read about in books.

4.

Put the gun Claude down bro, let’s do this the old-fashioned way.

Block 3, Street 97

1. What a cheeky way for Wet Ones to tell people wipes are for their hands. And yes, you are probably seeing double: hands, not butts!

Content marketing is the unstated job description for various roles in this social media era, so much so that former presidents are jumping on the bandwagon to showcase a side of themselves previously unknown to the public. You either create content or risk obscurity!

Block 4, street 97

How can you go about deleting LinkedIn? Well, to avoid creating content on LinkedIn may involve consistently creating content on other social media. Either way, content remains king, but you have a part to play as the kingmaker. Happy reading!

It’s salary week, take N100k out of your salary for enjoyment, you deserve it! 💚

Some people document every step. Others disappear and return with the finished product. If nobody knows what you’re building, are you protecting your process or scared of being seen trying? And if everyone knows your next move, are you building a business or running a press conference?

Block 4, street 97

Are you really doing marketing if you haven’t felt like the real marketing is convincing people internally that what you are doing works? The customers may be the least of your worries when you meet with non-marketers making marketing decisions. Have a good read!

It’s called organic, but you pay with your sanity.

Consumers access software for free; businesses pay to access the audience. What do you think?

Look who just folded?

Apple. Yes, your fave finally got into foldables with the iPhone Duo. Now the phone folds, the internet has unfolded.

And guess who didn’t fold?

Samsung. Nothing says “welcome to the club” like an old-timer trolling the new member just to remind them who’s been here longer.

Oops, someone crashed out.

Somewhere across the internet, Duolingo heard “Duo” and came running. No phone to launch, no foldable to sell, just a brand fighting for custody of a two-syllable word.

Sometimes, clients offer marketers alternative incentives besides money for their services, even when they cannot pay our bills. One of these alternative payments stands out, and if it were to become a measure of wealth, marketers would dominate the Forbes list. Can you guess what it is?

Block 4, street 97

This week on the block, we can't help but wonder: why do people choose marketing instead of oil fields in this slave-like capitalist world? Will marketers ever go back to squeezing ads into hardcover books? And why do clients and managers keep pushing "passion" as a reward instead of actual money?

1.

Of all fields to work in, you chose marketing that could nearly drive you crazy

2.

If passion were a measure of wealth, marketers would give Musk a run for his passion money

It’s salary week, book a presidential suite at a 5-star hotel and enjoy yourself!

Media consumption shifted from prime-time television to video-on-demand, and so did advertising revenue. VOD media deploy unskippable ads to boost ROI, but do they truly convert viewers, or do viewers see them as a cue to take a viewing break?

Block 4, street 97

Word on the street this week has it that marketers have to improve their statistical literacy or risk missing out on their dream jobs. Neighbours, we can only hope you did not find yourself in marketing because you wanted to escape mathematics.

1. Nutella’s brand positioning was literally out of this world as astronauts on the Artemis II mission were seen using it in space. We hope the brand managers’ performance reviews are stellar because there’s no space left for anything but praise.

2. We assumed Vaseline was in the same rank as garri with regards to not needing promotion, but the brand is not ready to be left out of conversations, as they leaned into the Nigerian Prince stereotype to call out scammers and fake products mimicking their brand.

3. The World Cup is incomplete without brands jostling for mindshare, and the American toy brand, Lego, is keen on emerging as the winner, as they wrote a fat cheque to assemble Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Vinicius for their #EveryoneWantsAPiece campaign.

When a marketing campaign is launched or a communication crisis emerges, observers from within and outside the marketing space usually have a lot to say. The interesting thing about marketing is that everyone is good at it, until it’s time to actually be good at it.

In recent weeks, #GiveToGain found its way into several conversation spaces as the world celebrated women, despite not being the official theme from the United Nations. Which begs the question: when two different themes compete for the same day, are we amplifying the message or diluting it?

Block 4, street 97

If this is you, don’t settle for less; ask HR the corporate version of the “what are we?” question

2.

Marketing is certainly not for the weak

4.

Neighbours, embrace global learning, but apply local wisdom

Block 3, street 97

1. As the world marked another International Women’s Day, brands across the globe creatively challenged stereotypes peddled by society. India’s Tata Capital’s #StopBlamingHer is one you want to watch.

2. Barely a month after Afrobeat icon, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, was honoured at the Grammy Awards, his cultural impact was etched further into global pop culture as Apple used one of his tracks as the soundtrack to launch its new MacBook Air.

3. CEOs saw us entertained by the Maid War in Bridgerton, and decided to create theirs. McDonald’s CEO became a laughing stock among his peers after his unconvincing attempt to launch McDonald’s Big Arch Burger drew criticism instead of applause. His counterparts from Burger King and Wendy’s decided to show him how it’s done. We can’t help but be entertained!

Block 2, street 97

1. If you noticed a dip in social media performance metrics for some brands you managed over the past year, you are not imagining things. Buffer reports that Instagram, LinkedIn, and Threads engagement rates declined in 2025, while Facebook, Pinterest, and TikTok rates increased slightly, and X posts saw significantly more engagement. Full report here

2. International Women’s Day has a slogan problem! Oh, that’s not our opinion; we are restating what this article stated. If you posted #GiveToGain as the IWD2026 slogan, we are sorry to inform you that you promoted the wrong theme. UN’s actual theme was “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.”

Block 1, street 97

Why spend heavily to have Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi as your brand ambassador when there is a cheaper way to get them to rock your brand? This was Burger King’s approach when they sponsored an unknown English football club, Stevenage, in 2020.

If your plans for Easter Saturday do not involve Engage2026, then you need to replan!
