I wouldn’t change a thing—it has been a fantastic adventure and a huge learning experience. Financially, though, I’m back at square one and beginning another chapter.

One of my biggest realisations over the past couple of years has been learning how my brain and nervous system work. Call it ADHD, neurodivergence or something else: I need stimulation, challenge and novelty.

For years, I criticised myself for building something successful and eventually walking away when a new interest took over. I did it with web design, my books, online training and several other careers. I saw it as repeatedly screwing things up.

I understand it differently now. My task is to work with my own design. For me, that means pursuing several meaningful interests and building multiple sources of income around them.

Chess has remained a consistent thread for six or seven years because it offers an endless challenge. I’ve built a YouTube channel of nearly 20,000 subscribers, coached players online and created several courses.

I’ve now brought those courses together and begun expanding them into Spice Rack: a complete, growing chess repertoire for beginner and intermediate players. It costs $99 during September and rises to $149 in October. Buyers get lifetime access, including every new opening I add in future.

I’m currently house-sitting for my dad. He returns in three weeks, and my goal is to have earned enough by then to rent a place of my own and begin this next chapter properly.

If you play chess, please watch the launch video below. If you know somebody who does, I’d be extremely grateful if you forwarded it to them.

Here’s the launch video (link):

You Can't Be "More Spiritual"

You are spirit. This is the other example. I wrote a book in 2010 that was published in 2011 called “Convert!” and that came out with through John Wiley and Sons.

A couple of years later, I got a message from Kirk, who had been helping his buddy who ran an immigration law firm. And Kirk said,

“Hey, I got your book. I can’t remember where I found it, but I got your book and I read it. And I thought, I kind of understood it, but that didn’t mean that I knew exactly what to do myself.”

The book was to do with conversion optimisation, helping your website to get more people to say yes. And so they hired me initially to redo their website, to get more traffic and more conversions.

And that led to an engagement that lasted probably three years and was worth six figures.

So what’s the point?

The point is just put it out there. Put yourself out there into the world.

You, or I, and nobody else can predict where your success is going to come from.

Just be a flower and bloom.

Sell Yourself!

Put aside your fear of offering to help others

Ben Hunt

Do you feel that you struggle to sell yourself? Because if you do, it’s very, very common. I completely get it.

I just had a call with a couple of wise and learned friends and we had this discussion about putting yourself out there and saying to people, “This is how I can help you.”

And wondering why? Where does this come from, this reticence or fear about just saying, “This is what I can do.”

And it may be, it may go back to the Industrial Revolution, it may be to do with power structures in society. We can’t know for sure, but it would make sense for society to prefer individuals who just think, “You know what, I just need to turn up to my job, I need to collect my paycheck, I need to pay my taxes, etc.”

A society that doesn’t really want people out there knowing their value. And your value really is realised by doing what you do, in service, helping others.

Homework assignment

So if you want a homework assignment for today or for the next week, why not go out, put yourself out there, contact a few people, have these conversations or even just put something on social media saying, “Hey, this is what I do. This is how I can help you.

And why should we be afraid of doing that?” It doesn’t make sense.

Maybe we grow up thinking that it’s blowing your own trumpet, being arrogant, even narcissistic, to say, “This is what I’m good at. This is what I can do and this is how I can help.”

So let’s say no to that! Let’s just try putting it to one side, just for today or just for a week or whatever and see. Because if you don’t ever put it out there, if you don’t ask the question, then there’s only one answer: the answer will always be no.

I love that piece by Marianne Williams in Our Deepest Fear, where she says,

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are adequate beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

So in some way we’ve been trained to fear success, and to fear thriving, to fear stepping up to be that bigger and bolder version that believes in yourself.

If you know why you’re here, if you know what your special talents are, your genius, your purpose, your path on this earth, and you don’t tell anyone, then you’re just hiding your light under a bushel.

So forget that. Let’s not do it.

I’ll go first

And this is challenging for me. I think I have currently undiagnosed AuDHD, which is a type of neurodivergence that has traits of ADHD and autism. My ADHD side is very confident in my ability, but my autistic side is scared of talking to people and scared of putting itself out there.

But here’s a few ways in which I may be able to serve you, to help you, to help make you more successful and also for me to thrive in the process. And that’s all good. There’s nothing wrong with charging for what you do. There’s nothing wrong with being compensated fairly or even unfairly for helping other people. Right?

A few ways I can help you

In terms of your genius, I’ve been coaching people for a few years to help identify what it is that’s burning with inside you that wants to come out and express itself and even to to turn that into a business.

As a writer, as a storyteller, I could write a book for you. I’ve written several books for other people, all nonfiction. So if there’s something, if there’s a story in you, even your story, your autobiography, that’s something that I can help to birth into the world.

If you run a business, if you do your own marketing, you would like coaching in how to communicate your message, how to identify it, to focus on the real emotional core of it and to express it effectively in the world. Yes, I will put my hand up and say I can help you with that. I can do your copywriting for you. I am also a freelance copywriter.

And one other thing I think that’s really interesting right now now is is what’s kind of known as “vibe coding.” If you don’t know what that is, it’s using artificial intelligence to create software, websites, web apps (not so much websites). For the last 7 months now, I’ve been building some software at incredible pace, which happens to be online chess coaching software.

I’ve been a web professional for over 30 years. And yet the speed at which AI can produce awesome software is fantastic, but you have to hold the reins!

You have to have a good vision. You have to hold it and stick to it. And one of the problems for many of us, you know, getting into what’s called vibe coding, is you have an idea and AI just wants to please you. And there’s nobody there to say, “Keep it focused on this. Don’t do that. That’s going to lead you down the rabbit hole,” etc.

With 30 years experience in databases and web apps and graphic design, but also my experience in branding, copywriting, all forms of online marketing, I can help to get the absolute best out of you and the AI tools as well.

So that’s a few things. I have to take a deep breath to communicate this. But if any of that is of interest to you, please drop me a message.

If you want to take one message away from this, get yourself out there. Ask the question. Sell yourself.

The more you sell, the more you sell.

And you may be surprised at the results. Have a great day.

The Secret Key to Selling

How to clear the subconscious block that stops people saying "Yes"

Ben Hunt

How long have you struggled to get your message across, and failed to motivate people to say yes to your offers?

I’m going to give you a secret strategy for persuasion, but you’ve got to promise to use it only for good, to help people.

What I’m about to tell you took me over two decades in online marketing to discover, but I’ll going to give it to you for free.

And once you see it, everything will make more sense, and your path to success will become clearer.

If you’re trying to sell your products or services, I bet you’ve tried all kinds of sales tactics, shortcuts, and hacks. You’ve probably talked about features, benefits, quality, price, addressed objections…

You’ve tried implementing a “marketing mix” using all kinds of channels that are available today, multiple different formats, social media, email sequences, funnels... and yet somehow results still don’t match your expectations.

Well, here’s what may be the one thing you’ve been missing.

We’re going to make it EASY for people to say “Yes”, by removing one crucial subconscious block.

The block is,

“It won’t work for me.”

They think,

“I’ve tried all these alternatives, and none of them worked. Maybe there’s something wrong with me!”

So we’ll explain WHY those things didn’t work. Acknowledge the pain.

“You’ve tried all these diets, which have made you miserable, and you’re still carrying that stubborn fat.”

“You’ve done all this work on yourself, paid for programs and courses, you’ve bought books, and you still continue to attract the same pattern of dysfunctional relationship.”

... Whatever it may be.

It’s NOT your fault

Now - without saying it explicitly - we explain why IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT.

IT’S NOT YOU is the subconscious lock we’re going to open!

And the key is… there’s a REASON why all those previous things failed. It’s just that you were missing one thing.

The one thing may be information, an ingredient, an approach, a blockage to remove...

Without the one thing — whatever it is — of course you’re doomed to repeat the same pattern of failure: the yo-yo dieting, the cycle of bad relationships, or negative thoughts, or whatever it may be.

You’ll say to them:

“You can’t heal if... your nervous system is stuck in fight-or-flight.”

(It’s not your fault.)

“You aren’t going to hold down a loving relationship if... you’re holding on to x y z beliefs.”

(It’s not your fault.)

And naturally we go on to present them with the key, in as much detail as we can in limited time. Enough to give them belief, but not necessarily revealing the whole process.

And the secret to bypassing people’s natural “So what” and “BS!” filters that we’ve all got is, we wrap all of it in the medium of story.

You explain that YOU TOO suffered the same frustrations. Tell them how you made the same mistakes, over and over again. You know their pain.

And you explain how you came to discover the secret... the secret that you want to give them.

Saving them the years of pain, cost, frustration, and self-doubt that you had to go through.

In doing all of this, they’ll discover it was never some shortcoming in them.

It was that no one ever told them the secret, or society kept it from them, however the story goes.

Belief and hope rises, trust naturally grows, and you’ve cleared the way to “Yes”.

Which is exactly what I’ve done in this video.

So if I can help you to communicate your story, and to reach people more effectively, just drop me a message.

Fulfil Your Own Ideas About Yourself

Tips for joy and success

Ben Hunt

One of my personal heroes is Judit Polgar. If you’ve never heard of her, she’s the strongest female chess player who ever lived. There’s a documentary Queen of Chess about her on Netflix and at her highest she was the number eighth ranked player in the world. She said,

The biggest challenge is to fulfill your own ideas about yourself.

Now the problem with that is that a lot of the time our ideas about ourselves can either be too small or they can be polluted. Ideas that we’ve taken on that aren’t ours from our upbringing, they have to be your own.

So don’t listen to the haters, don’t listen to people who are jealous or bitter because anyone trying to pull you down by definition is already beneath you.

So it’s important not to judge yourself by anyone else’s standards, but by yours, and make those standards and ideas big and bold.

Choose ideas about yourself that challenge you. Otherwise, what is there to grow into?

And make them high to inspire you to be the best version of you, but most of all make them true to you.

If you’re a visual person this might help: that your ideas about yourself should be aligned directly with your core and also high above you as well. So picture a ball of glowing energy that’s positioned above your head, but it’s completely aligned through your spine, connecting all of you, connecting all all the way to the Earth and all the way to Heaven as well.

So finding your truth is not easy to do, but your emotions can help you as a guide, as can your body.

Think about it like trying on clothes. You can spend some time trying on ideas and have a look in the mirror and see how your body responds.

See how the ideas make you feel. Do you contract or tighten? Do you feel heavy?

Or do you experience symptoms of excitement and lightness. If so, choose those ones because you’re here to be inspired and excited and motivated and to infect the people around you with that energy.

But if you’re carrying around ideas that weigh you down and don’t serve to inspire you, just have the courage to leave them by the wayside so that you can travel lighter.

Own your biggest ideas about yourself and then you can fulfill them.

A Day in the Life

A powerful short exercise for realising what your heart truly desires

Ben Hunt

I’ve been looking recently at little hacks and shortcuts and tips that you can use to visualise the life that you would really love to live.

So we mentioned the, “If I had 10 million in the bank, what would I wish to do?”

And I mentioned the interview intro, again, which is a really good way just to bypass the concerns of the ego, which will always come up with, “Well, how are we going to do that?”

But we’re not worried about the how right now. We’re looking for that beacon in the future. We want to know where we’re going to be heading because that will really help you to make decisions in the day-to-day.

And the tip that I’ve got for you today will really help with that as well.

Step One

Again, you’ll need your pen and your paper.

And what we’re going to do now is look at the slightly more mundane. What would a day in the life of you living your best life look like?

So I’ve written mine down. I’m going to tell you mine, and this is just for an example. This comes in two steps and the second step is really important.

The first one’s very easy. You take literally a couple of minutes and write down what a day in your life — on a regular Tuesday — might look like. So here’s what I’ve written.

Up at 6am, watch the sunrise over the ocean.

Coffee and first walk on the beach.

Early work shift, creative and expansive.

Less than 20 minutes a day on email; less than 20 minutes a day on admin, no employees! (We can look at the negative vision as well, what you don’t choose for your life.)

Write and record an inspiring video that helps people.

Time in the sun, listening to music, writing notes.

Afternoon work. (I’ll go crazy if I haven’t got work to do.) “God, I love what I do!”

Get a massage — give a massage.

Sunset walk on the beach.

Maybe dinner at a restaurant on the seafront.

Early night, relaxed, peaceful sleep.

But that’s me. That’s step one and doing that will literally take you a couple of minutes and that will really help you to make those daily choices.

Is this carrying me more towards that vision or not?

Step Two

But here comes the second step and this is really amazing.

Then what I want you to do is go through that list and say to yourself which of these things could I implement today… in a week… in a month… in a year?

You’ll probably realise that they are not as far off as they might seem.

A Shortcut to Your Purpose

Try this 5-minute brain hack to discover why you're really here

Ben Hunt

It’s my belief that every one of us actually knows what it is that we’re meant to be doing and what kind of life we really would most love to be living.

The issue is that we don’t necessarily know it in our present consciousness.

And there are many techniques that you can use to tap into your superconscious, which is the part of yourself that is eternal and connected to everything. It’s your real creative spirit that goes beyond the concerns of the ego.

The ego is very important! It’s there to keep you safe as an individual, but it’s only based on all of your life experiences, so it will tend to push you towards repeated patterns that it knows and recognises.

Lots of Methods

I recently did William Whitecloud’s “Create Your Destiny” course, which I highly recommend (which is all about tapping into your superconscious power

But a couple of methods that I’ve used in the past very quickly.

One is to visualise your ideal lifestyle. So we ignore all the present situation right now, how it is, concerns about skills, funding, finances, all of that stuff, just put all of that temporarily to one side. And to say (I mentioned this quite recently) let’s just say that you had 10 million pounds in the bank and you could get up and do whatever it is you wanted to do, what would you do? And then just see what comes straight out.

Another one that I’ve used before — this is part of my the prosperous mind program that I ran a couple of years ago — is really creative. I love this one as well, and it’s a way of kind of just tricking yourself into being honest with yourself about what it is you really want.

The interview intro

Imagine that your life in — let’s say three years time — has just gone, whoosh! And that you’ve discovered your genius and you’ve implemented it and it’s out in the world doing amazing stuff.

Now, next thing is, you’re going on a podcast and the podcast interviewer has asked you for a 30 second intro.

Write that intro.

So they’re going to say, “Oh, you don’t want to miss my next guest who’s coming up because they have…”

And you fill in those gaps!

What is it that you’ve achieved? What is it? How did they describe you? How did they describe your work?

How did they describe the impact that your work makes in the world? And you just settle into yourself.

It doesn’t take long. But really important, get a pen and paper and write that down because that will give you some major clues about what it is you’re meant to be doing.

Are You Still Looking For Love Out There?

Love can only come from within

Ben Hunt

If you’re looking for love or confidence or esteem or self-belief and you’re looking to get it from other people then it’s not going to work.

You’re just pouring stuff into a leaky bucket. You need to fix those holes and you need to source the love and esteem and self-belief from within. It’s the only place it can come

People who are constantly needing to be told they’re beautiful, for example, still feel ugly. That’s why they need to be told that.

One of my favourite quotes is from Henry Ford saying,

“If you believe you can or you believe you can’t, you’re right.”

And I would adapt that:

“If you believe you are or you believe you aren’t, you’re right.”

So if you believe you are worthy, you are lovely, you are a good person, then you are those things. This is just the power of your Word. And really, to know that you are lovable and worthy, etc., is just using your Word.

If you keep telling yourself — and you do this even just through the repeated act of looking for things externally — you keep telling yourself that you’re not, that’s what you’re getting. And it becomes your truth. If you tell yourself you are, then the same.

There’s another way of looking at this as well. There’s a quote from Friedrich Nietzsche, I think it was, who said,

“This is a more negative version, but it’s still powerful, it’s still useful, that if you think that somebody is ruining your life, your right, and it’s you.”

So what are we saying? For years and years and years I was beating myself up and calling myself all kinds of names that I couldn’t seem to stick at any one business for more than a couple of years. I would literally get bored and just physically couldn’t continue. I’d have to torch it and walk away.

It isn't me

Because the truth is that for me the way that I’m made is that I crave new, interesting, rich challenges. And doing the same thing for very long isn’t me.

It’s that deep. It goes that deep. It’s identity, because it’s about your soul and your soul’s purpose in this life. So to go against it is going to make your soul weary and strained and that’s been my experience.

So having appreciated that the reality is that I have to have new interesting challenges. And I’m also fascinated with people. My obsession is to see the power and the beauty and the strength in human beings, in individual human beings and to help them to see that. That’s always been my big frustration looking around the world at people with their heads bowed.

So if you take those facts and combine them put them together what does it make? For me personally my calling, my genius, my superpower, whatever you want to call it is to go around the world finding interesting, fascinating, amazing people and to help them, to help you to befriend and discover your unique, beautiful soul talent and to communicate that in a story, in a purpose. However, it’s naturally meant to come out.

So if this strikes a chord with you, if you know that that struggle that frustration, and you’ve been living with it for many years, I’d love to help, it would be a privilege, so feel free to drop me a message and we can have a chat.

<a class="image-link image2 Successes, loving relationships, so many things to celebrate, stuff you’re rightfully proud of.

But there’s also this history of all the challenges, the failures, the times you’ve lost hope, the times you felt you let yourself down, when you felt desperate, when you lashed out and caused pain to others, felt shame and regret.

And that can be overwhelming, but the stories that we tell ourselves are really, really powerful.

So you’ve got that story of pain and grief and loss and it feels like it’s enough for a lifetime. Maybe it feels like you’ve had more than your fair share.

But let me offer you a different story…

What if, all of those things that your mind perceives as your failures and shortcomings are all actually essential to who you’ve become today?

What if they were all necessary for you to experience the joy and beauty and success?

But even more than that.

What if... that story of grief and struggle, failure, despair... is why you’re here?

What if that story of all the things you got wrong, is your message, what if it’s your chosen mission?

What if telling that story is your divine purpose? It doesn’t have to be an autobiography, it doesn’t have to be a documentary, it doesn’t have to have a final page or a final scene. It’s live, it’s here, it’s now, you’re living it.

And what if what you’re being called to do is to start telling that story today?

So try this story…

Your higher purpose chose exactly this life for you because it’s perfect.

It’s perfect for your soul’s development. It’s perfect for becoming who you’re meant to be, which is an inspiration.

We’re all here to inspire others to lead each other home. You’re here to inspire, to offer hope and love and possibility.

And of course it starts with yourself. You’ve got to inspire yourself first.

So your new story, this life with all its mess and its textures and shades and highs and lows, nothing is wrong, nothing is wasted.

The mess is the message.

The point is, this life you are living is your perfect life.

And can you see that it’s full of beauty and hope and light?

So, shine.

A.I. copy, blessing or curse?

Be careful to keep A.I. tools in their own lane

Ben Hunt

Let’s talk a little bit about AI-generated copy. It’s all over the place right now, and if you’re anything like me, you can spot it a mile off.

There’s actually been some research on this done recently, and 50/50 is all you need to remember.

Around 50% of respondents in one survey believed that they could accurately identify AI-written copy.

When they actually tested people, their performance was about 50% success rate at identifying it.

What really matters is that 52%, of people claimed they find it AI copy a turn-off. They are less likely to engage by copy that they perceive as having been written by AI.

Now, I’m not here to say that AI does not have its uses. It absolutely does. And in copywriting — and I’m a copywriter.

It’s fantastic for research.

It can help you to organise arguments.

It can help you with structure.

It can help to summarize stuff into bulleted lists.

It can boil down two paragraphs into one and do a really, really good job at that.

But… there’s something really crucially important here, which is that copy isn’t just about the facts. That there’s something that comes through words when we tell stories to each other that have a much deeper eternal value and essence.

Human beings have been telling stories other for way, way, way longer than we’ve had writing. We’ve had writing for about 10,000 years. So, you know, maybe for a million years we’ve had, we’ve had speech and we’ve sat around fires and we’ve told stories to each other.

Stories actually bypass a lot of your mental filters and speak straight to the core of the human being. AI does not get that. And it doesn’t get the essence of you because your messages should come from the core of you, from your being, from your purpose, from your mission, from your heart and it can fake it some of the time but it won’t get it all of the time.

So my recommendation is that yes absolutely use it where it saves time but do not give it the final say. We should never hand over the keys of the kingdom finally to AI. Use it as a servant, use it as a tool, where it’s useful, but don’t let it do everything.

So it’s a huge difference because AI is quick and it’s easy and it’s kind of cheap, but that’s not everything that matters because 50% of your market could be put off when they start reading it.

I’ve done this recently. I’ve got friends on Facebook who are posting stuff written by AI, I get emails through that I can tell immediately are written by AI and I just cannot finish reading that message.

I don’t want to shame anyone here because it’s really, really common. But your soul needs to come through your messages. And there’s no replacement for that.

A good copywriter will understand that. A good copywriter will understand how to not just to speak in your voice, but to get the essence of what it is that you’re about to come through.

So that you wake up in the morning and you look through a video script or an email that’s been written for you properly by a human who really understands this and understands what how great copy makes you feel.

And that can bring tears to your eyes to feel like you’ve somebody’s got you to that extent where they can write that for you. If you need help with that, then let me know.

Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. Use AI. It is a fantastic tool. Just keep it in its place.

Please add in the comments, how much AI copy do you think you can see going around these days? And more importantly, what’s your response?

Stop Fighting Yourself

How I can help you resolve your inner conflicts and embrace your true path

Ben Hunt

Get in touch by adding a comment or email ben@benhunt.com

Self Love Challenge

Love yourself because you are clearly worthy

Ben Hunt

You are completely worthy of good things, including love, acceptance, and compassion.

For no other reason than the fact that you’re here.

One of my absolute favourite quotes is attributed to the Buddha, and says,

“You could travel the whole Universe and never find another being more worthy of love and compassion as you.”

So let’s do something naughty, a little challenge, and do something that says, “I love you” to you for no other reason than you’re here, and you deserve it.

Why not? You’ve got to be out of the country to do that, so I flew out one day, basically stayed awake most of the night, probably had three hours’ sleep in bits and bobs over 24 hours, then flew back and got back to my hotel at midnight.

Anyway, I woke up this morning with a painful cough, that kind of sensitive-skin feeling, aching gums, and all that stuff.

Proper fluey symptoms.

I know the general opinion on the street is that flu and things are caused by viruses. I’m not convinced about that. These things haven’t been isolated.

My personal view is that this is your body saying:

We need to recover and/or detox.

Which would maybe explain why people tend to get sick around the same time.

But think about what I just did.

Not enough sleep.
Quite a lot of emotional stress.
Quite a lot of physical stress on my body for a couple of days.

Then I get back, have an eight-hour sleep, and my body goes:

Right, you. You need to reboot. Reset. Nothing.

I mean literally, I’m doing 20 minutes’ work and then I need a nap.

So what I’m doing right now is reframing this in my mind.

I’m saying:

Actually, do you know what? This isn’t something to fight.

This is my body looking after itself.
Looking after me.

This is me looking after me.

It wasn’t a conscious decision, but the body knows better.

So listen to it.
Trust it.

Here’s another example.

How many times have you been working, working, working like a bugger, building up to going off on holiday?

You want to get all those last bits of work out of the way, so you push and push and push.

Then you fly out on holiday, which is stressful in itself.

And as soon as you stop, you get sick for a couple of days.

It’s the same thing.

It’s your body saying:
“Right, you. On your arse now. You’ve got to recover.”

True or not, I don’t know. I really don’t know.

But right now, it works for me to say thank you to this physical form, to this vehicle, for doing what’s necessary to keep going.

I’m somebody who hates being idle.

I can’t do nothing. That is the hardest thing for me to do.

And yet, I’ve got to breathe through it and embrace it.

So I don’t know.
