That’s right. It’s officially COZY SEASON.

This year, to kick off what we personally believe to be the best season up here, we’re offering an extra special deal of the month. But first, the classics: a few of our favourite things.

This has been the best summer The Stonewater has ever seen. We served more guests, booked more spa sessions and had more fun than ever. If you were one of the guests or visitors who came out to see us, thank you! The Stonewater is a magical place, but it’s people like you who help keep that magic alive!

We’ve had a lot of awesome things happen around here this season. First, we hired an assistant GM, Sebas. You might have talked to Sebas on the phone when you called to book a reso or ask a question about how much time you have in the circuit spa (it’s 75 minutes. And yes, you get it all to yourself). He’s been stepping in on Crystal’s off days and vacations and absolutely crushing. So glad to have him on the team!

Also new to the team this summer: our rag tag team of local teens. This summer we were in a hiring crisis after one of our longterm cleaners had a health scare (she’s mending up, don’t worry). No one and nothing was working out. Someone pitched some hardworking teens who were looking to make some summer ca$h and the rest is history. These kids have hustle! It’s their energy and hard work that’s being put to work everyday getting your rooms spotless. Obviously, as school starts up, they won’t be here everyday. But we’re working something out with the kids who have some extra time on weekends and holidays. So you’ll see them around.

Per usual, we hosted so many incredible guests this summer. Birthdays, parties, retreats and more. Every single event was a blast to host, but it was especially rad getting to have Bad Academy up again for their annual Bad Summer Camp retreat. This is the third year in a row we’ve hosted and it just gets better each and every year.

If you didn’t get to make it up and see us this summer, you missed out lowkey. But that’s okay, we’re gonna be here for a long time to come. You’ll make it here eventually. And if we’re not at the top of your to-visit list yet, here’s a little something that might help entice you to come hang: 10% off any weeknight hang until the end of September! Book now!

Be back real soon with October’s deal.

Love ya lots,

Here’s a few monthly faves and of course what you came for: the July Deal of the Month!

Record of the Month - Grand Funk

Animal of the Month - These baby hummingbirds

Photo of the Month - Tiny Cabins looking cute and tiny as ever!

Deal of the Month

For the month of July we’re offering something we don’t usually do, 10% off any weekday stay, Sunday through Thursday (two nights minimum)! We don’t do discounts in the summer because we’re so busy, but we love all the love our newsletter gets and wanted to give you a little something something. Typically our weekdays don’t book up until a few days before, so you’ve got time to figure out when you can easily play hooky from work.

I’ll be back with a monthly update real quick.

If the deal doesn’t make you wanna come visit, maybe a few of our updates and behind the scenes goss will pique your interest.

To start, our hot tub exploded. Not quite full on kaboom style, but pretty close. If you’ve come and used the Moonshine Spa you may have noticed that there was a little baby leak — nothing substantial, nothing problematic. That was until all of a sudden the little trickle was no longer a trickle, but a full fledged water feature no one asked for. Turns out there was a manufacturing defect, but it was nothing I couldn’t handle (after discussing with several experts (YouTube), and helpful non-experts (people who have literally any handy experience) as I have little know-how, though more than you’d expect for a city guy). I discovered that the builder screwed the benches THROUGH the liner causing the leak. After some research I was put onto this special curing glue that can be applied wet and added some flex tape on top of that. Miracle of miracles, it held! We only had to cancel two spa sessions!

Don’t worry, a permanent solution (a new liner) is coming soon. But I wanted to flex my fix. On a scale of 1-10, how impressed with me are you?

Beyond the drama of the tub, we’ve deployed even more signs. Wood ones for all the trailers, and now some cutie little guys for the Moonshine Spa. Did you know how the Moonshine Spa got its name? Well, now everyone will with these here signs. Reading is a gift (math isn’t. I said what I said).

An update on Reggie! As you know, we’ve been on a pimp my ride journey. The under lighting has arrived. And now, drumroll please, WE HAVE MOCK UPS!

It’s gonna be real sick when all is said and done!

That’s all I have for now. I’ll let you know if there are any other crises I am able to avert for us. In the meantime HAGS! And use that discount code to get a weekday getaway, you deserve it.

Love you forever!

Qaid Jivan

Per usual, since we last checked in there’s been a lot going on around here! All of our tiny cabins and trailers (which are open for the season by the way) have projectors for you to use and enjoy. Who needs a big screen when you have a big blank wall?

We also have new signage courtesy of Fritzworks! The team really pulled out all the stops to make our signage dreams come true. Fun, vibey, NOT cartoony, and most importantly, USEFUL. Finding your way to the Skookumchuck Trailer just got a lot easier.

When we first took over The Stonewater, opening the Moonshine Spa was a big dream of mine. It also seemed like the most unrealistic and the biggest question mark. I mean a cedar wood circuit spa SOUNDS really good, but it was scary wondering if we’d have anyone come use it. Any questions we may have had when we first opened have gone to the wayside since. People come to us JUST for the spa, in fact we have so many spa guests we’re currently trying to figure out some automations so we can increase our hours and host MORE guests. Or just let you book the spa for waaaaay longer. I’ll keep you posted when those automations come into play.

In other news, our beloved Honda Ridgeline, Reggie ran over someone’s trailer hitch on the highway the other day. Don’t worry, we’re alive. Just a little traumatised. That was scary lol. Reggie will possibly be getting a makeover soon a la Pimp My Ride. We just got a quote. So if we book a few more spa sessions, Reggie gets souped.

Deal of the Month

For our June deal of the month we’re giving you one last chance to have a free fire starting kit with any stay booked in June. This deal is subject to fire bans, however, it’s looking like this may be another Juneuary. Just send an email to stay@thestonewater.com when you book and say that you’re a newsletter subscriber and want to get your paws on the June deal.

Love you forever. Can’t wait to see you visit soon.

All the best,

It’s officially the end of the year, and it’s been another exceptional one for us over here at The Stonewater. It’s all thanks to you of course – every single post you tag us in on Instagram, or review you leave for the Moonshine Spa, or even just waving and saying good morning when we cross paths by the tiny cabins – it’s people like you who make The Stonewater the special place that it is. We’re just curating the setting for you to make special.

And to be honest, we do a pretty good job of setting the vibe around here, I must say. Credit where credit is due. We’ve had artists visiting in our ongoing artist in residence program, adding a little beautification from the windows in the Big Cabin to custom painted picnic tables. We also hosted our very first DJ set in the tiny cabins.

All this is to say: watch this space. We’re just getting started.

Everyone say, “Hi, Crystal!”

I didn’t hear you. A little louder please. Okay now, that’s more like it.

Some of you may have met already, but for the sake of this newsletter let’s pretend you haven’t.

We’ve officially hired someone to take over from me behind the desk at The Stonewater. And that person is Crystal. We truly couldn’t have gotten any luckier with her. Not only is she a total pro who already runs the joint better than I ever did, but she’s also cool as hell.

I’ll still be around all the time (it’s less than 3 hours to get here from my place in Vancouver after all), but it’s great to know that we’ve got the best person possible for the job up there looking after you all.

Next time you’re staying with us, visiting the spa, heck, next time you’re just driving by, stop in to to say hey to Crystal. You wanna do it. She really is so cool.

Deal of the Month

You may have seen the flash sale on our Instagram already, but in case you didn’t:

To give back to our friends who might need an escape we’re offering 25% off all stays now until April 30th, if you book in the next two weeks. Two-night minimum required!

Book here and use the promo code: COZYSZN

Now for our newsletter subscribers we’re giving you an extra little something something: If you are one of the first 5 bookings, we will also throw in a free spa session! (provided we have space).

That’s all I got for now!

Love ya and until next time,

Of course it’s hard to beat jumping into Hotel Lake at the end of a long hot day, or quenching your thirst on a sticky, sweaty evening with an ice cold cider from Brickers… BUT when you’ve had a summer as good as the one we just had, Fall doesn’t sound so bad. It’s just an opportunity to do things a little different. A hike up Pender Hill in the afternoon that won’t put you at risk for heat stroke, anyone? A cozy dinner at Tubird, watching the waves crash against the shore perhaps?

We’ll miss summer though – this one has been extra special. Our second busy season brought record-breaking moments, more guests, more smiles, and more good times than ever! Thanks for being a part of it.

Last week Bad Academy returned for Bad Summer Camp and that sure was a blast! Thanks to everyone who made it so special. I had so much fun getting to meet everyone and then leaving them alone to do their thing. They’re a really cool group, and I encourage anyone who’s thinking about joining a workshop to take the plunge. They really are the coolest community out there.

In other news, as you may recall, we do an Artist in Residence program out here at the ol’ Stone Zone. So far we’ve hosted @maedstudio_ (who painted the murals on our glamping trailers), @lisa.taniguchi (who painted some signs to help you get from point A to point B with ease), and Nickie Lewis of @thewizardsmakery, who made the most beautiful frames for the windows in our soon to be open to the public Big Cabin! We caught up with Nickie to hear a little bit more about their world for our Pretend We’re Around a Campfire series.

What’s your favourite thing to do outdoors?

Kayaking or building sculptures.

How do you like to unwind?

Watching drag shows!

What’s your favourite board game?

UNO.

What's your hyperfixation meal/snack of the moment?

Chocolate, tahini, peanut butter, almonds and honey in a tortilla.

What’s the last hobby you took up and then put down to never pick back up again? How long did the hobby last? Did you really think you’d be into it forever?

Vinyl cutting with a Vinyl cutting machine. It lasted just over a year, and of course I thought I'd last forever... just like the hundreds of others before it lol.

Best part about escaping to The Stonewater?

The Sauna and the sound of the frogs!

Where can people find you online? Anything you want to shout out?

Shout out to the excellent hosts of The Stonewater for allowing me to create something I'd never tried before!

Thanks for sitting down with us, Nickie!

Next month we’ve got Jenny Zheng (@cozyconnectionstudio) coming out to paint our picnic tables. So much to look forward to!!!

REMINDER: you’ve still got time to use our August deal of the month! We’re giving 50% off any spa booking to guests who stay 2-nights or more!

August Deal of the Month

And last but not least, our August deal of the month! We’re offering 50% off any spa booking for those who are staying with us for two nights or longer. Come get your zen on in our circuit spa before the back to school season arrives! You’ve earned it. I can tell. No really. I can. You did earn it.

Love you lots!

July has slipped by in a blink! We’ve been awfully busy with all the guests coming through on their summer vacations, and the spa has been booked solid over the weekends well over a month in advance (this is a PSA to always book your spa session as early as you can – especially if you’re hoping for a dip in the cold plunge on a weekend). I’m loving it! I’m also tired, but in a good way!

I’ve also got to thank everyone who replied to last month’s newsletter about looking for a new manager out here. We received so many awesome emails and met with so many truly amazing candidates. If I could hire every qualified person, I would! We’ve managed to narrow it down to some great candidates though, and I know we’ll end up with someone perfect to take over running the desk.

In other news, if you’ve visited The Moonshine Spa in the past few months (or just walked past it when you’ve stayed with us), you’ll have noticed that we’ve been in the process of finishing our Big Cabin! The vision? An indoor space that accommodates bigger groups no matter the season – all in Stonewater style of course with a comfy seating area, a woodburning fireplace, a bar, and everything else you need when get your friends together. In good weather there’s tons of places to hang out on site as a big group. But when the weather is bad, the only covered area you can hang with your buds is your room. Now with the Big Cabin you and your group will be able to chill with your group without having to worry about the weather. We’re hoping to have everything done and dusted in the Big Cabin by early August – very soon I’ll be able to share some pics!

This month we’re also hosting Bad Academy’s Bad Summer Camp! Bad Academy has sold out once again — we couldn’t be more stoked to have all those rad people come stay with us. Gonna be so much fun!

REMINDER: our July deal of the month is 10% off any stay of 3-nights or longer for the month of July. It’s still good for a few more hours!!!! Use the code StayLonger10 at checkout to book.

I’ll be back tomorrow with August’s deal! Will it be better than July’s? Who’s to say!? That’s your gamble to make. Where will your heart guide you?

Talk to you soon,

May went by in a real whirlwind. June’s racing by too! Since our last email lots has been going down out here – we sponsored the Attack of Danger Bay again and got to see some rad skateboarders and longboarders, we hosted all the artists performing at Blues Fest again, and spun a bunch of new records from a recent haul I made when I was back in Vancouver for a couple days (shout out to Kendall, our resident comms strategist for switching gears and manning the desk while I was away).

Now, it’s time for some news: I’m moving back to Vancouver full-time later this year and The Stonewater is looking for someone to fill my shoes at the front desk on a permanent basis. I’ll still be the owner of the property and on-site a bunch, but my tenure at the desk is coming to an end.

This has been the best job I’ve ever had and I’m sad to give it up, but staying on as the manager full-time was never the plan. In fact, the plan is much bigger and grander, but I won’t bore you with those details just yet. So, it’s come time to find my replacement and I figured, hey, maybe you newsletter subscribers know someone who’d be interested! It’s an interesting job after all.

Here’s a little about the role and what we’re looking for:

Above all, you’re responsible for keeping all guests comfortable. You have a high bar for service and cleanliness, and top-tier emotional intelligence.

• Manage the phone, always.

• Manage the spa.

• Be available for emergencies for guests.

• Manage bookings online.

• Lead the groundskeeper, cleaner, and other contractors as needed.

• Cover for the groundskeeper and cleaner, if required, re-hire if needed (with support from management).

• Create content for Instagram, TikTok, and other media forms (we can help).

• Connect with the community via community events.

• Most importantly: a long-term commitment to the business and the vision (5 years).

And obviously what everyone is most interested in… Compensation and working conditions:

• $35,000-40,000/year.

• Over $25,000 in extras (no major expenses): Free rent (furnished onsite 1 bed/1 bath home), free utilities, free internet, company vehicle (Reggie the Ridgeline), company phone, and additional perks – spa passes for friends, spa access for you, 2 free 2 night stays for friends, etc.

• 4 weeks paid vacation, 6 weeks paid vacation in year 2.

It’s an amazing job for the right person, it gives you time and space to work on your hobbies, save (without any expenses), enjoy an amazing part of the world, while only being a couple hours outside of the city. My partner and I have loved living here! I know this is someone’s dream job – do you know that someone?

If you refer a candidate and we end up hiring them, we’ll give you a free two-night stay! So forward this email, or reach out to us yourself at stay@thestonewater.com. We can’t wait to find the right person for the job.

Reminder: Our June deal of the month is for anyone getting ahead and planning a trip this fall. Book more than two rooms and get 15% off your stay for any booking after the September long weekend.

Someone’s here for their spa sesh, gotta jet.

Love you lots,

Qaid Jivan

The weather is getting warmer and warmer every week on the Coast. We’ve already had a couple no-vacancies and heading into May Long, we anticipate another full house. Can I just say once again what an honour it is to play a role in your getaways? Thanks for choosing us to be your home away from home. We couldn’t be more thrilled.

Since my last newsletter we’ve had another artist in residence come and create for us – Lisa Taniguchi. Lisa is kind of a big deal – if you’re from Vancouver and have spent any time in Kits on West 4th you may have seen some of her work already – she’s the artist behind some Kitsilano street murals, a mural at YVR, and now some signs right here at The Stonewater.

Here’s our interview with Lisa for our Pretend we’re around a campfire series.

What’s your favourite thing to do outdoors?

One of my favourite things in life is relaxing in an outdoor onsen (hot springs). I’ve been to many in Japan, some with endless views of the sea, some surrounded by trees and flowers. They're the quintessential Japanese experience and oh so relaxing.

How do you like to unwind?

Drawing helps me decompress and clear my mind. Rough sketches, pretty letters, whatever is going through my mind.

What's your hyperfixation meal/snack of the moment?

Oooo, definitely homemade strawberry matcha lattes. Perfect spring pick me up!

What’s the last hobby you took up and then put down to never pick back up again? How long did the hobby last? Did you really think you’d be into it forever?

I took a single hand tufting workshop thinking it would kickstart a new hobby, only to never touch it again. I still want to try making rugs with a tufting gun though!

Best part about escaping to The Stonewater?

Listening to the sound of frogs at night, soaking in the hot tub, surrounded by trees. Similar to Japanese onsens, it's such a calming, grounding experience. A refreshing change of pace from my life in the city!

Where can people find you online? Anything you want to shout out?

They can find me at @lisa.taniguchi and at my very first solo art show, "the things we tell ourselves" happening mid-September this year! I’m so excited to present a collection of original art inspired by vulnerable, hopeful and hopeless thoughts I’ve captured over the years.

Are you in need of a vacay, like right now? Well, friendly reminder: Our newsletter-exclusive May deal of the month is 10% off on weeknight stays of two-nights or more! Give us a call at (604)908-1455 to book now!

Cozy season is officially over at The Stonewater. All of our tiny cabins and glamping trailers are officially open for the season. The birds are chirping – specifically the crows I’ve spent the past several months attempting to befriend by feeding them peanuts out of the palm of my hand. The cherry blossom trees are in full bloom. We’ve officially already had our first no-vacancy of the season, and there are even a few more on the horizon. It’s only April but the vibes are high already!

At the end of last month we hosted our first artist in residence, Ali Munn. Ali came and created the most beautiful shelves with custom animal decals. They’re absolutely stunning and have made our office way way cooler than it was before. And it was already cool because I invested in a late 70s entirely Pioneer sound system with custom speakers for the space. As an audiophile, even I can admit that Ali’s art is cooler than the record player.

Pretend We’re Around a Campfire

Ali also took part in our interview series! So pretend we’re around a campfire and read Ali’s answers to our questions.

What’s your favourite thing to do outdoors?

In the summer I like to hike, bonus points if there is a lake to jump into at the end. I have been trying to visit a couple of new gulf islands each summer and will be going to Gabriola for the first time in June.

Year round I am always happy to sit around a campfire.

How do you like to unwind?

Cooking at home is my favourite way to spend an evening in. Music on, minimum of 3 beeswax candles burning, maximum coziness.

What’s your favourite board game?

My favourite board game is Gobblet, but my favourite game of all time is a card game called Dutch Blitz! It's very addictive and quick to learn.

What's your hyperfixation meal/snack of the moment?

Black licorice covered chocolate twists!

What’s the last hobby you took up and then put down to never pick back up again? How long did the hobby last? Did you really think you’d be into it forever?

I don't want to rule anything out! I have tried so many things and while many haven't stuck I may return to them again one day. Or at least this is how I am justifying holding onto all the random craft supplies filling my cupboards.

Thanks for sitting down with us, Ali!

Now remember our sick April deal of the month? The waived pet fee for all April bookings. Well that’s still going on, so give us a call to book your April visit with your favourite pet. BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE. To celebrate the good weather and the tender kiss of spring we’ll be posting something very exciting on our Instagram tomorrow. As our loyalest fans, we’re giving you the heads up in advance to keep your eyes peeled for a sweet deal coming your way real soon.

That’s all for now.

Spring will come eventually though, even if it doesn’t feel that way yet. If you’re thinking about getting out of town for spring break, The Stonewater could be the exact right place. I know most of the people who read this newsletter are past guests, but in case you’ve never come out here we’ve got tiny cabins, glamping trailers, and standard suites and rooms, we’ve got an on-site, entirely Canadian-cedar and Canadian-built circuit spa, and we’re we’re just 2.5 hours away from downtown Vancouver? Get the group out of the group chat and come out to The Stonewater for spring break this year! We’re super cool, I swear. As a special incentive we're offering 2 hours of free spa time (valued at $400 or more) to any group that books out the entirety of a certain kind of unit – i.e. all the tiny cabins, all the glamping trailers, all of the garden suites. Give us a call to book now at (604)908-1455.

In my last newsletter I said I’d have some special announcements to make so without further ado, here are those announcements:

Announcing the Artist in Residence Selections

You might remember that a couple of months back we teamed up with @maedstudio_ to give our glamping trailers a makeover. Well, they really knocked it out of the park, and now we have gorgeous trailers fit for glamping, and some friends for life. The whole experience worked out so well, it sparked an idea – what if we made this a thing? That “thing” went on to become the Artist in Residence program: Come stay at The Stonewater and in exchange, make your mark on the property with your creativity.

I was overwhelmed with the responses we got. There were more than 100 talented artists reaching out and pitching all sorts of amazing ideas. It was so hard to whittle it down to just _ many, but I think the artists we’ve got coming out to join us in the next several months are the perfect people to help The Stonewater level up its game.

When every artist comes out to join us, I’ll share a Q&A with you in the newsletter and give you more specifics on what exactly they’re going to be doing for us! I can’t wait to share more down the line, but for now I’ll just tell you who the artists are that have been selected for the 2025 Artist in Residence season.

From March 27-29 we’re hosting the Art of Living Experience. This course teaches SKY (Sudarshan Kriya) — a powerful rhythmic breathing technique that harmonises the body-mind complex. Over the course of one weekend participants will experience reduced stress, anxiety, better sleep, a stronger immune system, and increased energy levels.

You don’t have to take it from me. Over 70 independent studies on four continents and published in peer reviewed journals, have shown that practicing SKY leads to a 218% increase in deep sleep, a 50% increase in well-being hormones, a 56% reduction in stress, and a 70% reduction in depression. Priceless benefits, priced at only $395 for new comers.

At the rate I’m greying, I might just have to join the sessions. If you’d like to join, sign up here! There are only two spots remaining.

That’s all for now! TTYL

We’ve got less than a month of winter to go! To celebrate the upcoming Spring Solstice we’re offering 2 hours of free spa time (valued at $400 or more) to any group that books out the entirety of a certain kind of unit – i.e. all the tiny cabins, all the glamping trailers, all of the garden suites. This spring, get out of the group chat and into The Stonewater! Come make memories here. You won’t regret it.Give us a call at (604)908-1455 to book this deal now.

That’s all for now. I’ll be back at the beginning of March with my monthly newsletter and will be sharing some exciting announcements.
