I want to talk about problems. More specifically, how we as human beings actually perceive them.

Let’s establish what we are really talking about here. Strip away the anxiety, and a problem is simply a situation that requires our attention and needs to be resolved. It can centre around a person, a place, or an object. It could be a difficult colleague you have to interact with daily, a new city where adjusting to the local rhythm clashes with your deeply ingrained habits, or a personal goal you desperately want to pursue but find the path blocked by endless obstacles.

At their core, problems are just situations demanding a resolution. But they are entirely subjective. A situation that feels like a crisis to one person might not even register as an inconvenience to another. Furthermore, problems have an expiration date dictated by familiarity. The first time you parallel park a car on a busy street, it feels like an agonising problem; by the hundredth time, the problem has completely dissolved into muscle memory. It hasn’t changed, but you have.

What I really want to dissect is the psychological mechanism behind this: how do we choose to label these life events as “problems” in the first place?

Viewed closely, life is just a continuous sequence of neutral situations. Moment after moment, the universe constructs different scenarios. From your childhood to the very second you are reading this, your existence has been a tapestry of events and environments. Yet, we don’t call all of them problems. We only slap the label of a “problem” onto a situation when reality refuses to conform to our desires—when we want something to happen in a highly specific way, according to our personal timeline and taste.

The greater our demand for a specific outcome, the heavier the problem feels. The more urgently we want it fixed, the more critical the situation appears. Conversely, if you possess the exact tools, resources, and past experience to handle the issue, the friction vanishes.

Yet, there are times when you have the resources and the know-how, but the situation remains stubborn. Certain variables remain entirely outside your control—and outside the control of anyone else. What happens then? The problem persists, and its resolution is handed over to time, fate, and that mysterious, unknown factor we call luck or magic.

What this reveals is a profound truth: situations are objective, but problems are personal. They demand more effort, time, and mental energy than we are initially willing to give, aggressively defying our expectations of how things should go. When a situation pushes past our comfort zone, we must recognize that we cannot carry it alone; it requires collaboration. And if we hit the absolute ceiling of human effort, the only sensible choice left is to step back and let time activate the missing variables we cannot yet see.

However, the most crucial dimension of any problem is not its complexity, but how we choose to look at it.

Think about how you perceive the troubles of others. Have you ever noticed how natural it is to step in when a friend needs help? When a neighbour’s pipes burst, or a coworker is overwhelmed by a deadline, you offer your support without an existential crisis. You don’t freeze up thinking, “How will I ever do this? What if I fail? What will happen to me?” You simply act because you know you can. Even if you don’t fully understand the technicalities of their dilemma, a pure, unburdened willingness to help takes over. You do it because the situation in front of you simply calls for it.

But a strange phenomenon occurs when that exact same situation happens to you. Even though you successfully navigated it for someone else, you suddenly find yourself paralysed when you are the one in the crosshairs.

What is that invisible weight that makes a task effortless when done for a friend, but excruciating when it belongs to you? What shifts?

We have all experienced moments where, despite the odds, we push through a tough situation to the finish line. And we have all experienced the opposite: moments where we give our absolute everything, yet the situation refuses to budge. While it is true that not every dilemma can be solved, there is a massive category of problems that could easily be resolved, but aren’t. Something inside us sabotages the process. Even when we have the knowledge and the resources, we hit an internal roadblock. We build an invisible obstruction, remaining completely blind to it, or worse, refusing to look at it.

This obstruction is entirely born out of our perception. In the majority of our daily struggles, we allow our analytical, thinking mind to hijack the present moment. We trigger a cycle of mental rumination, spinning terrifying narratives: “What will happen to my life if this goes wrong? How will I survive this? What will people think of me next?”

Is it only limited to the moving ones or also the ones which cannot. Like to the quiet kingdom of plants. Where do we place the seemingly inanimate elements of our world—the stones, the grand mountains, the shifting sands, and the flowing waters? What is their rightful position in this thing we call life?

At the core of everything , what is that singular, universal truth: isn’t it the existence itself?

Do me and you as a human being posses a greater degree of existence than plants and animals. Conversely, do the stones, the mountains, and river exist any less than us. Is human existence inherently more valuable than theirs?

While the absolute reality of an existence may elude our complete understanding, but the undeniable fact of existence itself, remains absolute.

Let’s look at what does existence mean to different forms of being:

• For a stone, is it to exist simply to endure and remain?

• For a plant, is it to draw nourishment from nature and growing in harmony with it?

• For animals, birds, insects, is it the primal drive to survive?

• For humans, however, existence is a apparently a complex journey(from mind’s perspective)— to endure, to nurture ourselves, to survive, and ultimately, to actualise our full potential so we may truly realise what it means to be human?

Yet, a profound disconnect remains, where non-human world simply rest in a state of pure being— existing effortlessly the way their true nature— we humans often disrupt the nature flow of life through us. We attempt to force the universe into our own rigid definitions and demands; demands we cling to stubbornly despite having no real understanding of them.

Are we asking too much from life, demanding answers and outcomes prematurely, while remaining blind to the abundance what life is already offering us ? Have our relentless desires left us too distracted to notice.

What if the natural flow of human life is to be simply be—to act with intention on what really is needed to be done in this present moment, and let the rest of the existence take care of itself and unfold naturally?

Yet the one I always wanted.

Their dwellings may differ from ours,

But our daily rhythms are aligned.

We both share the same system,

Yet we barely seem to realise—

They live in harmony with the Earth,

While we foolishly try to rewrite.

Me and my neighbours:

I wake in the morning, practice my daily gratitude, and step out of bed. Heading into the kitchen to warm a glass of drinking water, I look through our large window at the open, tree-lined lawn in front our apartment building. This little green space acts as a tiny miniature sanctuary for nearby birds and animals. Every now and then, we get visitors— like a tiny baby fox hunting for a bite to eat, with its mother trailing just a short distance behind to keep her adventurous pup in line.

Among these wild neighbours of ours, there is a particular squirrel. I don’t know its gender, so to keep things simple, I will just call it ‘it’.

This squirrel has become something of a morning companion to me. We generally wake up around the same time—somewhere between 7:00 and 8:00 AM—or at least, that is what I like to believe. It is the very first thing my eyes search for when I step into the kitchen to pour my warm water. Out there, it is likely starting its own day, hunting for food to bring back to its family.”

Occasionally, a pigeon, a crow and another white-black bird called magpie also cross paths with the squirrel in the morning. They mind their own business, focused entirely on finding breakfast in close quarters. They seem to know each other and respect each other’s routine. It’s a beautiful scene reminding how different pieces of nature can share the same space and coexist in perfect harmony.

He is in the ever present Now,

Where Past & Future has no place.

He is in you,

in me,

in every one of us.

Yet we may never find Him

the way we seek.

He knows, what you know,

Also what you don’t.

Knowing is how you know Him,

For Knowing itself is what He is.

You cannot see Him,

yet He reveals Himself

when you yearn for Him deeply.

You cannot imagine Him—

He is the very One

who makes imagination possible.

And yet you may imagine Him

to be whatever you wish Him to be.

But the real Him

is beyond imagination.

You pray to Him.

You question Him.

Yet the answers do not come—

perhaps you are not open

to listen when He speaks.

He speaks through Silence,

For Silence is what He is.

His blessings are upon all creation,

yet really blessed are those

who recognise His presence.

He is not hidden

somewhere in the distant beyond.

It is only that you have not looked

deeply enough—

with a keen heart

and a longing that do not fade.

He has never left you,

nor will He ever leave.

He is always there

with open arms.

You only need

to turn towards Him

and embrace.

Questions are the engine of Human evolution. Our evolutionary journey was not just shaped by survival, but by the relentless curiosity that drove us to question the world around us.

A child’s first interaction with the world is an act of inquiry. By deploying their senses to touch, taste and observe, a new born is essentially embarking on the lifelong human quest to quench curiosity.

As we grow older, most of us hit a crossroads, a sudden moment of clarity where an ultimate questions demand an answer: Who Am I ?, What Am I doing in this world?, What is this world?, What is the purpose of it all? If you haven’t faced that moment yet, let this be it.

For most, these questions are fleeting thoughts—brief flashes that quickly fade. But for some of us, they refuse to be ignored. They return at different stages of life, steadily building into a profound curiosity that forces us to hunt for answers.

External answers are easy to find. They can be fascinating, intellectually stimulating, and highly informative. But they only scratch the surface. None of them resonate truly deep within you, leaving you still waiting for that elusive “Aha! moment”

Of all the questions we ask, the most fundamental inquiry remains: Who Am I? Resolving this mystery illuminates everything else. To guide us towards this ultimate answer, sacred texts offer several time-tested frameworks- specifically the paths of Karma, Gyan and Bhakti Yoga.

To step onto the path of self-inquiry is to become a Seeker. In truth, you can be in any of the above path and still be a Seeker. You may be consciously identify with this label, or you may not - but the quiet, underlying desire to uncover the Unknown is the thread that binds us all together.

For the mind inclined toward absolute truth, the path of self-inquiry becomes inevitable. Following are some pointer questions may act as a guideposts for those who are seeking, the newly curious and anyone who has found their way to this page right now.

This self-inquiry is the inquiry on the self or the Self depending entirely on how you look at it. To someone who has already realised the True Self, this inquiry reveals a self-evident fact. For those who are still seeking, and still identified with the individual self, these questions serve as a compass, aligning the direction of their search.

From childhood to now,

I lost the touch to my true nature,

I know what I am now,

I really don’t know what the “I-am” is.

Let’s start right at the threshold You came into this world crying the shit out of yourself😎

From there on, journey is pretty much better, only till at some point though, then you grow and “Life(worldly)” happens which we will talk about later. The next you then cried mostly when body demanded something. That is your genes doing the work. Even if you think about why do we cry when we come out of mother’s womb, one of the apparent reasons could be you are leaving the peace and comfort which you had known for 9 months and entering into a world of Unknown.

If you observe the child, most of the times child is mostly at peace, enjoying seeing stuff through his/her eyes, licking stuff around, kicking things, trying to put anything and everything putting in mouth. But during all this activities, he/she is happy only, right?

Crying happens naturally for bodily reasons for something bothering, stomach ache for gas, feeling hungry, not feeling good for poop in the bum and such usual stuff we don’t need to go into.

Even when the child grows up, and learn new worldly things, the energy around a kid would always be positive and he/she will always be full of energy and joy. Joy about a little things like play time with toy, happy meal time and such other stuff. Where did they learn to be happy, who told them how to be joyful and throbbing with energy - nobody. It’s what come to them naturally.

The question is then, what happens to this innate happiness, that joyful nature, that evergreen attitude, when the same kid turns into a pre-schooler, a teen, grown up young adult and so on. The portion of the happy feelings start diminishing little by little with time.

But why?

Why do we lose the touch to that happiness, that feeling of joy.

What happens to our mind and body that it no longer knows how to be happy and joyful most of the time?

The short answer would be Life happens - that worldly Life - understood from a scope of our limited mind.

The more important question we need to ask ourself is, if this is generally happening with large portion of the population, still is it the only way it can be. Doesn’t that point towards a fact, that there is seriously something we are not getting or doing or understanding right. With time we should be more happy and more joyful and able to handle things better than before, right.

Is it because while growing, the society, the culture and the environment around us, were putting this weird definition of Success and Failure like if we only do certain things in a certain way and achieve certain goal, then only we would be successful else we are a failure, where peace, happiness and satisfaction are not even considered to be something of importance.

We live in a world, where people around us have been relaying their ideas to their next generation without being aware that the general idea they picked during their conditioning has never worked out for themselves. It’s not that the intentions are not right, but they themselves have no clue about the real truth about the idea, or if they have, they have somewhat mastered to cover it up with a mask.

The idea of a financial milestone, perfect corporate ladder, the relationship timeline checkbox, the always positive, never rest grind and so on. Such things are always going around a child till he grows up and collect some of these ideas and build his/her own reality around it, thinking this is what they think should be good for them.

The underlying curiosity, that quotient of happiness, satisfaction and peace fades away between this superficial society imposed definitions.

We forget to figure out who we are, how do we think, what do we know, what we don’t know, what interest us, what do we want to really find out to know better, to understand better, what makes us happy, when do we feel satisfied, what excites us, what can I do better and comes naturally to me, what feels like this is me, I can do this, I can do this better.

We forget that the happiness was our nature, peace was the ground reality of our psyche, joy is what we spread in our childhood wherever we were.

What we need to remember is, we still feel those moments of happiness, peace and joy.

Remember when we are in love, when we are around the nature and are able to embrace the beauty of it, the beauty of the still and gigantic mountains, that silent lake, the musical sound of that continuous flowing river . When we are so engrossed in an activity say dancing - performing our favourite routine, singing, playing or listening to favourite music or doing a task where we get lost in our own world, that only when we come out of it, we get hold of something we call our self. That flow state.

The point is, we still can be that joyful child, who is ever happy for no reason. We just need to find out and know who we are, in the absolute sense, and the process itself will yield results from time to time, by bringing in us what we need to be at any given point in the journey.

Remember true peace is our nature, the more close to our nature we are, more happy and joyful we feel.

Let’s define it first in simple terms, Gratitude is to be grateful for something or anything you feel happy for or about.

It can be for anything like exam you passed, date that went as you expected, the job you have been wanting, the kiss that you wanted to happen, the toy your child was always asking for and you could provide and so on.

It can be anything from anything mundane to something huge like winning a lottery at the time when you needed the money most.

The point is we all have been practicing this Gratitude from the time we even don’t remember. The one thing which we are sure and we do remember is that we have/had our moments of Gratitude.

Now, apart from this momentarily feeling where we felt grateful on particular event like thank God, you saved me from that embarrassment, and like Wow, I don’t know how I did that presentation, but it went awesome, thank you Universe, we also can make this a practice and convert this into habit, which can do wonders for you, silently and gradually that your mind cannot discern how it happened but somewhere in your gut, your inner Self knows it helped.

Let’s deep dive into this thing called ‘Gratitude’.

What is it🤔??

It’s a feeling which appears to be initiated at the surface level, i.e., mental level but it has roots deep into the source, which is your true Self.

It is tied to a faith that there is someone, something who is listening, which is receiving this. Someone would call it God, others would say Universe, someone would just leave to what it is for them without naming, or they even didn’t think about that who or what it is.

Let’s call it the Unknown. It does not matter what name you give it, what matters is the faith in that Unknown, which consciously or unconsciously you have. It comes from intuition.

“That Faith and intuition has everything to do with the true Source/Self within you.”

So, when you pay your gratitude, it reaches to your True Self, that True Source which we all are. It is like the thing in you which you have lost touch to, is bubbling up on the surface on such happy events, which makes you feel psychologically safe that someone/something is there, who/which is listening, it’s there for you, silently saying: “No problem/It’s alright/Everything will be fine/Don’t worry/I am there”

It calms you down, brings you at peace, makes you nervous system be at ease.

That is why it is powerful.

That is the best thing you can do as a body-mind apparatus to start your day.

If you are not already doing it then here is what you can start with as a practice to build a habit that you will be grateful for, to your own Self.

The first thing when you wake up:

Close your eyes or Don’t - whatever suits you.

“Be grateful/thankful for anything/everything you truly feel about deeply and comes to your mind intuitively.”

e.g.

“Thank you <God/Grace/Unknown/Universe/Nature>

Thank you for this life, this healthy life,

Thank you for the loved ones, family, friends.. and they are also healthy or getting healthy(whatever is the situation)

Thank you that you are always there for me, I don’t know how, but I know you are. Thank you for whatever I already have,

It is all you, who takes care of things, things which I understand and don’t at this moment.

Thank you for being there and always there.

Thank you.”

Note: It’s a practice you do to build a habit, it works better when you truly feel that the thankfulness within, so pick what comes naturally to you.

Leave everything else into that Unknown.
