When asking questions becomes divisive, perhaps it’s time to ask who benefits from the silence.

There is a growing accusation being directed at people who investigate questionable activity within the MAGA movement, including those examining the Michael Flynn network and its associated political, organizational, and financial relationships.

We’re being told we’re causing division.

We’re being accused of infighting.

And inevitably, someone invokes Q:

Divided we fall. WWG1WGA.

But I have a question.

Since when did unity mean we stop asking questions?

Since when did supporting a movement require unconditional loyalty to every public figure who claims to represent it?

And when did investigating potential fraud, conflicts of interest, financial exploitation, or misleading narratives become more offensive than the possibility of those things actually occurring?

Because somewhere along the way, some people seem to have confused unity with immunity.

Those are two very different things.

UNITY ≠ IMMUNITY.

1. Let’s Revisit What Q Actually Posted

I’m not interested in arguing over someone’s personal interpretation of Q. Let’s look at the published material.

On May 11, 2018, Q Drop #1339 directly addressed people claiming insider access, collecting followers, controlling information, and potentially profiting from the movement.

It included these words:

“We are a threat to profiteering.”

It also cautioned readers to be careful about whom they follow.

The following day, Drop #1343 went even further, discussing alleged attempts to infiltrate, repackage, rebrand, and turn the movement into a profit vehicle.

Read that again.

The published posts themselves raised the possibility of individuals exploiting the movement for personal benefit.

So why, years later, is investigating potential financial exploitation suddenly being labeled divisive?

How can we demand accountability from Washington while treating certain personalities within our own circles as untouchable?

We cannot have two standards.

2. WWG1WGA Does Not Mean Follow Everyone Who Claims to Be on Your Side

Where We Go One, We Go All.

It’s a phrase many people have carried with them for years.

But unity around a cause is not the same as unconditional allegiance to individuals.

A person does not automatically become trustworthy because they wear a MAGA hat, served in the military, have a large following, attended a political event, or claim to possess insider information.

Those things are not substitutes for evidence.

And supporting President Trump does not require supporting every person who has positioned themselves somewhere within his political orbit.

Drop #2352 is especially relevant here.

It explicitly states that the movement is not about one person or a group of people.

That principle deserves to apply consistently.

If the mission is greater than any individual, then no individual should be allowed to become greater than the mission.

3. There’s a Difference Between Division and Discernment

Not every disagreement is an attack.

Not every investigation is a smear campaign.

And not everyone asking uncomfortable questions is secretly working against the people they are questioning.

There is a difference between deliberately manufacturing conflict and uncovering information that some people would prefer remain unexamined.

Division for its own sake serves no productive purpose.

But neither does manufactured harmony.

A community that cannot question its influential members is not necessarily united. It may simply have developed an environment where people are afraid to speak.

Drop #4462 speaks about unity while also emphasizing individual judgment.

That distinction matters.

Unity without discernment becomes conformity.

And conformity is a dangerous foundation for any movement that claims to value independent thought.

4. The Money Matters

Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get nearly enough attention.

The political influence economy.

Followers have value. Attention has value. Access has value.

Political personalities can generate revenue through subscriptions, donations, merchandise, speaking engagements, consulting arrangements, sponsorships, investment promotions, and businesses built around their audiences.

There is nothing inherently fraudulent about earning money from legitimate work.

Independent journalists, researchers, content creators, and commentators all have expenses. They deserve to be compensated for their labor.

The issue is not monetization itself. Q Drop 1366

The issue is transparency.

Are financial relationships being disclosed?

Are claims of insider access being used to encourage financial participation?

Are supporters receiving accurate information about where their money goes?

Are business interests influencing the narratives being presented?

Are audiences being asked to trust personalities instead of examining evidence?

These are reasonable questions.

And they become even more important when individuals use patriotism, political loyalty, or a shared identity to market their products and services.

A movement should not become a shield against scrutiny simply because someone has figured out how to monetize its loyalty.

5. Why We Investigate the Flynn Network

Our research into Michael Flynn and the broader network of organizations, businesses, political relationships, financial interests, and public narratives associated with him is not predicated on requiring everyone to dislike the man.

Nor does investigating a network establish that its participants are engaged in wrongdoing.

We examine relationships because relationships matter.

We examine financial arrangements because incentives matter.

We examine public statements against documented actions because consistency matters.

And we examine the origins and distribution of narratives because the public deserves to understand who is influencing the information they consume.

A documented business relationship is not automatically evidence of corruption.

A political disagreement is not proof of infiltration.

An allegation is not a conviction.

But neither should an influential person’s reputation automatically invalidate legitimate questions about their conduct.

If our research is wrong, show us where.

If a document has been misinterpreted, provide the correct context.

If a relationship is being misunderstood, offer evidence that clarifies it.

We welcome factual corrections.

What we will not accept is the suggestion that an entire subject should be declared off-limits because examining it might upset someone’s followers.

That is not how independent research works.

6. The Convenient Use of Unity

Here’s where I believe this conversation becomes particularly important.

Some people are perfectly comfortable investigating corruption in government, intelligence agencies, corporations, financial institutions, and the media.

They demand transparency.

They demand accountability.

They insist that no one should be above scrutiny.

But when those same investigative standards are applied to an influential figure within their own political community, the conversation changes.

Suddenly, we’re supposed to stop asking questions.

Suddenly, we’re creating division.

Suddenly, WWG1WGA is invoked as though it settles the matter.

Why?

If the evidence is wrong, challenge the evidence.

If the conclusions are unsupported, challenge the conclusions.

But telling researchers to abandon an investigation for the sake of unity is not a rebuttal.

It’s an attempt to end the conversation without addressing its substance.

And we should all be willing to recognize that distinction, regardless of whom we personally support.

7. When Someone Claims MAGA, Their Actions Deserve Examination Too

There’s another aspect of this conversation that deserves attention.

What happens when someone publicly identifies themselves as part of the MAGA movement, builds an audience around that identity, benefits from the loyalty of Trump supporters, and then consistently promotes narratives or takes actions that contradict President Trump’s publicly stated agenda?

Are we supposed to ignore that, too?

Let’s be clear: Supporting President Trump does not mean agreeing with every decision he makes. Independent thought matters. Good-faith criticism is healthy, and disagreement is not evidence of disloyalty.

But there is a meaningful difference between occasional disagreement and an identifiable, sustained pattern of contradiction.

When someone repeatedly claims to represent a movement while actively working against its stated objectives, that discrepancy deserves examination.

Especially when that individual has built influence, credibility, or financial opportunities around their claimed allegiance.

We should be asking:

• What is this individual publicly claiming to support?

• How do their statements and actions compare with Trump’s actual policies, directives, and publicly stated objectives?

• Is there a consistent pattern of contradiction, or are we looking at isolated disagreements taken out of context?

• Are they presenting supporters with accurate information about what the administration is doing?

• Are they financially benefiting from narratives that keep their audience fearful, angry, divided, or distrustful?

• Who benefits from the discrepancy between their professed position and their documented conduct?

These are investigative questions, not declarations of guilt.

And they are particularly relevant when influential personalities position themselves as trusted interpreters of Trump’s intentions while repeatedly telling their audiences something fundamentally different from what his administration is publicly saying or doing.

At what point do we stop accepting someone’s self-proclaimed allegiance as sufficient evidence of their actual position?

At what point do we begin examining the pattern?

You cannot demand that the public investigate every institution in America while insisting that certain individuals within your own political movement remain exempt from the same scrutiny.

That is precisely why we document statements, examine timelines, compare public claims against official actions, and follow financial relationships where the evidence warrants it.

Not to manufacture enemies.

Not to enforce ideological conformity.

But to determine whether the public is being given an accurate representation of the people, policies, and interests they are being asked to support.

If someone claims MAGA, their actions are fair subjects for scrutiny.

If their actions consistently contradict their claims, asking why is not an act of division.

It’s an exercise in discernment.

And if the movement truly stands for transparency and accountability, that standard cannot stop at the edge of someone’s popularity.

8. Accountability Is How We Protect a Movement

We need to be careful about another trap: allowing legitimate concerns about exploitation to turn into indiscriminate accusations.

Not everyone who disagrees with us is an infiltrator.

Not everyone who earns money from political commentary is a fraud.

And not every questionable connection proves a coordinated operation.

If we expect others to be accountable to the evidence, we must hold ourselves to that same standard.

That means distinguishing documented facts from allegations, interpretations, unresolved questions, and speculation.

It means correcting errors publicly.

It means refusing to manufacture guilt through association.

It also means refusing to abandon legitimate research simply because the findings are inconvenient.

The purpose of accountability should be to establish what is true, not to decide in advance who deserves to be condemned.

If the objective was to encourage independent thought, why should that principle suddenly disappear when the questions concern someone within our own circles?

We cannot demand that people challenge official narratives while expecting them to unquestioningly accept the narratives of influential personalities who claim to represent us.

The standard must remain consistent.

Question the claims. Examine the evidence. Follow the documented relationships. Apply the same scrutiny to everyone, including ourselves.

That is how credibility is built.

And credibility is worth protecting.

9. So, Are We Dividing the Movement?

No. Our objective is not to divide people into competing personality camps.

Our objective is to make information available so people can exercise their own judgment.

If someone believes our work is divisive, they are entitled to that opinion.

But they should be prepared to explain which facts are incorrect, which evidence is unreliable, or which conclusions are unsupported.

We can disagree about Flynn.

We can disagree about political personalities.

We can disagree about the meaning of individual Q posts.

We can even disagree about the direction of the MAGA movement.

What we should not have to do is surrender our ability to investigate in order to prove that we belong.

I do not owe any public figure my silence. I owe the truth my best effort.

And that includes holding my own research accountable.

Let me make something else perfectly clear.

I believe in unity. I believe in standing together for a common purpose. But I do not believe unity requires me to hold hands, sing kumbaya, and pretend that documented contradictions, questionable conduct, or efforts to undermine the very principles we claim to defend simply don’t exist.

I will not manufacture division for the sake of disagreement, but I will not manufacture unity for the sake of appearances, either.

You cannot demand my solidarity while simultaneously demanding my silence.

Final Thought: Where We Go One, We Go All

I want to leave you with one final consideration.

What good is a united movement if the price of admission is agreeing never to question the people leading it?

What happens when protecting a personality becomes more important than protecting the principles that brought people together?

And who ultimately benefits when legitimate scrutiny is discouraged?

We don’t need everyone to agree with our conclusions.

We need people willing to examine the evidence.

We need independent thinkers, not unquestioning followers.

We need transparency that applies to everyone, including ourselves.

We can stand together without standing behind every individual who claims to represent us.

We can support a shared cause without endorsing conduct that contradicts its principles.

And we can challenge questionable behavior without abandoning our commitment to one another.

WWG1WGA is not a loyalty oath to personalities. And claiming MAGA is not a lifetime exemption from accountability.

If we are going to question the establishment, we must be willing to question those who have established themselves within our own movement.

Unity is not the absence of accountability.

Unity built on integrity is stronger than unity maintained through silence.

WWG1WGA.

That should never mean leaving our discernment at the door.

We stand united in our principles, not blindly behind those who claim to share them. Unity does not obligate us to stand alongside those whose actions undermine the very movement we are fighting for.

Our loyalty belongs to the mission, not the personalities.

UNITY ≠ IMMUNITY.

My 18-year-old son asked me a question the other day that caught me off guard.

“Mom, why hasn’t Trump brought the gas prices down?”

It wasn’t an argument. He wasn’t criticizing Trump. My son has always supported him.

It was simply an honest question from an 18-year-old who is now working, driving, buying his own gas and beginning to understand just how much everyday life costs.

But his question stuck with me.

Because I realized that if my own son doesn’t understand how gasoline prices actually work, there are probably millions of other Americans asking the exact same question.

And with midterm elections approaching, we’re going to hear plenty about the price at the pump.

So I started digging.

And I realized there is something very basic that we probably haven’t done a very good job of explaining.

The President Does Not Set the Price of Gas

Let’s start with the simplest part.

There isn’t a gasoline-price lever in the Oval Office.

Think about it this way.

If a new Ford F-150 costs $50,000, would we ask:

“Why doesn’t the president just call Ford and tell them to sell it for $20,000?”

If bread costs $4 a loaf, do we expect the president to call the company that makes it and announce:

“Starting tomorrow, your bread is $1.”

Of course not.

We understand that private companies manufacture products and sell them in a market.

Gasoline isn’t fundamentally different.

A president can influence the conditions under which energy is produced and sold. Presidential policy can affect drilling, permitting, regulations, infrastructure, refining and even how the United States responds when something disrupts the global oil supply.

But influence is not the same thing as control.

President Trump cannot call every refinery, distributor and gas station in America tomorrow morning and announce that regular unleaded will now be $2.50 a gallon.

Just like he can’t call Ford and dictate the price of an F-150.

That doesn’t mean a president can’t do anything about gasoline prices.

Far from it.

But before we get to what a president can do, we need to understand what we’re actually paying for.

What ARE We Paying For?

When we pull into a gas station and see the price glowing on the sign, most of us think we’re looking at the price of oil.

We’re not.

Crude oil is only the beginning.

Think of it as a chain:

Crude oil → transportation → refinery → gasoline → distribution → gas station

And then there are taxes.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says the price of a gallon of gasoline contains four basic components:

Crude oil.
Refining costs and profits.
Distribution and marketing.
Taxes.

So when gasoline is expensive, asking “What does a barrel of oil cost?” only tells us part of the story.

We also need to ask:

Which part of the chain is making gasoline expensive?

And that becomes very important when we look at what happened this summer.

Crude Fell. Gasoline Didn’t Fall Nearly as Fast.

There was a period this summer when crude oil prices dropped significantly.

Gasoline prices declined too, but much more slowly.

At first, that didn’t make sense to me.

If the main ingredient becomes substantially cheaper, shouldn’t the finished product become cheaper too?

Eventually, lower crude costs would generally be expected to work their way through the system.

But they don’t necessarily reach your neighborhood gas station immediately.

In fact, economists have a name for something consumers have probably noticed for years.

It means exactly what it sounds like.

When crude oil prices rise, gasoline prices can shoot upward like a rocket.

When crude prices fall, gasoline prices sometimes float downward like a feather.

The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis examined this very phenomenon in August.

There are legitimate reasons for some of the delay.

The gasoline being sold at your neighborhood station today wasn’t necessarily made from crude purchased at today’s price.

Inventories have to move through the system.

Transportation matters.

Supply matters.

Contracts matter.

Refinery operations matter.

But there is another part of the gasoline supply chain that most of us rarely hear about.

Meet the Refinery

Crude oil isn’t gasoline.

Somebody has to turn it into gasoline.

And this is where something called the crack spread becomes important.

Don’t let the terminology lose you. It’s actually pretty easy to understand.

Imagine a bakery buys flour and turns it into bread.

The difference between what the bakery paid for its raw material and what the finished bread is worth tells us something about the economics of turning flour into bread.

That doesn’t mean the entire difference is profit. The bakery still has employees, electricity, equipment and plenty of other expenses.

The same basic idea applies to oil.

A gasoline crack spread measures the difference between the price of crude oil and the wholesale price of the gasoline made from it. It is commonly used as an indicator of refining margins.

And recently, those margins have been unusually high.

The EIA reported on September 4 that gasoline crack spreads had been elevated since May. In New York Harbor, they had averaged about $1 per gallon, compared with a peak of around 60 cents per gallon in 2025.

In plain English:

The refining portion of the gasoline-price equation has become unusually expensive.

And suddenly, looking only at the price of crude oil doesn’t tell us nearly enough.

Does That Mean Refiners Are Gouging Americans?

Not necessarily.

And this is where I want to be careful.

A high refining margin by itself is not proof that anyone is breaking the law.

The EIA says the elevated crack spreads are primarily the result of tight global gasoline supplies. Refinery disruptions overseas, reduced imports and other supply problems have contributed to that tight market.

But President Trump noticed the disconnect too.

On June 24, he publicly complained that falling crude prices weren’t being reflected quickly enough at the pump and directed the Justice Department to investigate possible price gouging.

The oil industry disputed the accusation and argued that tight global gasoline supplies and refinery disruptions helped explain why gasoline wasn’t falling as quickly as crude.

And that is precisely why the evidence matters.

There Is Still a Question I Can’t Ignore

This is where I want to clearly separate what I can prove from what I question.

We can document that refining margins have been unusually high.

We can document periods when crude prices fell much faster than gasoline prices.

We can document that Trump publicly questioned that disconnect and directed the Justice Department to investigate possible gouging.

What those facts alone cannot tell us is the motivation behind every company’s pricing decisions.

But with midterm elections approaching, I believe there is a question worth investigating:

Are market conditions completely responsible for what we’re seeing, or are some companies deliberately maintaining unusually high margins for reasons beyond ordinary supply and demand?

Maybe it’s simply about maximizing profits.

Maybe the explanation really is tight supplies and refinery constraints.

Could other considerations be involved?

I don’t know.

And I’m not going to tell you I know something I cannot prove.

But I do want the question investigated.

If the evidence shows this is entirely the result of supply shortages, refinery capacity and ordinary market forces, then that’s where the facts should lead.

If investigators discover deliberate manipulation, whatever the motive, Americans deserve to know that too.

I would like to see those receipts.

So What Can a President Actually Do?

This brings me back to my son’s original question.

If a president cannot simply order gasoline prices lower, what can a president do?

A president can pursue policies intended to increase American oil and gas production.

President Trump has done that.

His administration has pursued expanded drilling, leasing and permitting and has made increasing domestic energy production a major part of its energy policy.

A president can try to remove federal barriers that the administration believes unnecessarily delay energy development.

President Trump has done that.

But producing more crude oil is only part of the equation.

Remember the refinery?

A President Can Address Refining Capacity.

President Trump has done that too.

On April 20, Trump invoked authority under the Defense Production Act specifically addressing domestic petroleum production, refining and logistics capacity.

And the reasons listed in that presidential determination are important.

Constrained financing.

Long lead times.

Permitting and infrastructure bottlenecks.

Supply-chain limitations.

In other words, you can’t decide on Monday that America needs another refinery and have it producing gasoline on Friday.

That’s important because America could produce enormous amounts of crude oil, but somebody still has to turn that crude into gasoline.

Think about milk.

You can produce all the milk you want.

But if you don’t have enough facilities capable of processing, bottling and distributing it, producing more milk doesn’t immediately put another gallon on the grocery-store shelf.

Oil works similarly.

We need the ability to:

Produce it → Move it → Refine it → Distribute it.

Every step matters.

A President Can Respond When Global Oil Supplies Are Disrupted.

President Trump has done that too.

In March, following major disruptions to global oil supplies, Trump authorized the release of 172 million barrels of crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve as the American contribution to a coordinated 400-million-barrel action by International Energy Agency countries.

This wasn’t merely announced and forgotten.

The Department of Energy subsequently began awarding contracts and moving that oil into the market.

Again, the president couldn’t order the world oil market to lower its price.

But he could use crude controlled by the United States government to add supply during an emergency.

And he did.

A President Can Protect Critical Oil Shipping Routes.

President Trump has done that too.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes.

The war involving the United States, Israel and Iran severely disrupted traffic through the Strait.

But the United States didn’t simply stand by.

American forces cleared Iranian mines from international shipping lanes and provided protection for commercial vessels traveling through the Strait.

By August 28, the White House reported that nearly 1,500 commercial vessels carrying approximately 750 million barrels of crude had moved through under U.S. protection.

That’s an enormous amount of oil.

But here’s another important distinction:

Protected passage is not the same thing as instantly returning the entire global petroleum market to normal.

Shipping companies still have decisions to make.

Insurance costs matter.

Regional instability matters.

Refineries matter.

Inventories matter.

And damage that has already occurred doesn’t magically repair itself because ships can once again move through a shipping lane.

Then There Is Russia and Ukraine.

This is another example of why American gasoline and diesel prices don’t exist in a bubble.

Ukrainian drone attacks have damaged or disrupted major Russian refineries.

In September, Reuters reported that six of Russia’s largest diesel-producing refineries had reduced output. Together, those facilities account for about half of Russia’s diesel production.

That matters beyond Russia because petroleum products are traded globally.

President Trump has also been involved diplomatically here. In September, he announced an agreement aimed at stopping Russia and Ukraine from attacking one another’s energy infrastructure. Ukraine publicly indicated willingness to pause strikes if Russia also stopped attacks on its critical infrastructure, while questions remained over implementation.

So again:

A president can use diplomacy to try to reduce the disruption.

Trump has.

But even if another refinery isn’t attacked tomorrow, that doesn’t instantly repair the refinery damaged yesterday.

That’s the difference between taking action and controlling every outcome.

A President Can Investigate What Companies Are Doing.

President Trump has done that too.

When crude prices fell and gasoline wasn’t following quickly enough, Trump didn’t simply say there was nothing he could do.

He publicly challenged the discrepancy and directed the Justice Department to investigate possible price gouging.

That doesn’t prove gouging occurred.

An investigation exists to determine what the evidence shows.

But it does mean the administration recognized the same thing American consumers were seeing:

Something between the price of crude oil and the price at the pump deserved a closer look.

So Let Me Answer My Son’s Question Again.

“Mom, why hasn’t Trump brought the gas prices down?”

Because that’s not quite how it works.

It isn’t because presidents have absolutely nothing to do with gasoline prices.

They do.

Presidential policies can affect production, regulation, permitting, infrastructure, refining, strategic reserves, foreign policy and the broader conditions affecting energy markets.

But:

Influence is not control.

A president can pursue policies intended to increase American energy production.

Trump has.

A president can address federal permitting and regulatory barriers.

Trump has.

A president can take action aimed at expanding American refining and petroleum infrastructure.

Trump has.

A president can use the Strategic Petroleum Reserve during a major supply disruption.

Trump has.

A president can deploy American power to protect one of the world’s most important oil-shipping routes.

Trump has.

A president can use diplomacy in an effort to reduce attacks on critical energy infrastructure overseas.

Trump has.

A president can direct federal authorities to investigate suspected price gouging.

Trump has.

What he cannot do is pick up the phone tomorrow morning and order every privately owned gas station in America:

“Regular unleaded is now $2.50.”

Just like he cannot call Ford and announce:

“Starting tomorrow, every F-150 is $20,000.”

That’s not how a market economy works.

Maybe We’ve Been Asking the Wrong Question.

Instead of simply asking:

“Why hasn’t the president lowered gas prices?”

Maybe the more useful question is:

“What is making gasoline expensive right now?”

Is crude oil expensive?

Are refining margins high?

Are refineries operating near capacity?

Are global gasoline supplies tight?

Has a refinery gone offline?

Is shipping disrupted?

Are inventories low?

What are taxes adding?

How much of the price is coming from refining?

Are companies responding to ordinary supply and demand?

Or is something happening that deserves investigation?

Those questions require more than a meme.

But they also give us something much more valuable:

Understanding.

My son is 18.

He’s entering adulthood in a world where he’s going to be bombarded with political claims from every direction.

I don’t want him simply repeating what I believe.

I want him to understand why he believes something.

I want him to know how to ask the next question.

When somebody tells him:

“Gas is expensive because of Trump.”

Or:

“Gas is cheap because of Trump.”

I want him to understand that neither statement, standing alone, explains very much.

Ask what crude costs.

Ask what refining costs.

Ask what’s happening with supply.

Ask what’s happening overseas.

Ask what policies have actually been implemented.

Ask what a president actually has the legal and practical power to control.

And then follow the facts wherever they lead.

Because the number glowing above the gas station is the end of a very long story.

And sometimes understanding that story is the difference between being informed and simply being told whom to blame.
