Think about what makes New York so unique. It’s a city of millions of people, all living their own lives, following their own routines, and rushing to get somewhere. But on marathon Sunday, everyone seems to have the same destination: the streets.

And that’s what makes it so special.

From the moment you step outside your apartment, you can feel it. Even if the race isn’t passing right by your street, the excitement is in the air. The streets are packed, music fills the sidewalks, cheers echo through the neighborhoods, and some of the best homemade signs you’ll ever see are held high above the crowds. The atmosphere is almost impossible to describe. Even if you aren’t running, you feel like you’re part of something. You might even find yourself wishing you could join in, running alongside thousands of others and becoming part of this magnificent day. At least, that’s how I felt (even though I know for a fact I could never run 26.2 miles- whoa!). This might be the best day of the year in New York City.

The marathon is one of those days that truly brings the city together. The race takes runners through all five boroughs, connecting communities that don’t always feel connected. Each neighborhood has its own personality, spectators, music, traditions, and energy. From Brooklyn to Queens, the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island, the entire city becomes part of the experience.

This year, I spent time in both Brooklyn and Manhattan to take in two different sides of marathon Sunday. My boyfriend and I headed to mile 10 in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, specifically through the Hasidic Jewish community, a stretch of the course often referred to as the “Silent Mile.” It’s a particularly interesting part of the race because the atmosphere feels noticeably different from what you might picture when you think of the NYC Marathon. The community traditionally observes the race more quietly, with spectators asked to respect the neighborhood and its residents. In fact, it’s not unusual to see residents attempting to cross the street while the race is underway, carefully making their way between waves of runners as everyday neighborhood life carries on around them. And quieter it was. Compared with the packed sidewalks and roaring crowds in Manhattan along the course, noticeably fewer people lined the streets. But that didn’t mean there was no enthusiasm. In fact, the people who did show up made themselves heard. Music, enthusiastic cheering, and plenty of encouragement filled the air as thousands of runners passed through. A group of girls standing next to us took it upon themselves to read the names printed on runners’ shirts and shout them out as they passed. These were strangers, people they had never met and would probably never see again, but for those few seconds, they were the loudest supporters in the world.

It was such a simple thing, but it captured something I love about marathon Sunday. You don’t have to know someone to cheer them on. And while the girls beside us were making their own little corner of the Silent Mile a whole lot louder, the scene elsewhere along the course was an entirely different spectacle.

If there’s one thing New Yorkers know how to do, it’s show up. The homemade signs are practically an attraction in their own right, ranging from genuinely heartwarming to downright hilarious. Cowbells, speakers blasting music, elaborate costumes, and cheers so loud you hear them long before you see the runners approaching fill the air. Families wait for hours to catch a glimpse of their loved ones, friends gather in groups to support their runners, and entire neighborhoods turn the race into their own Sunday celebration. Some people have been doing this for years, making it an annual tradition, while others wander outside and get swept up in the excitement.

What I find particularly special is that all of this happens for people most spectators have never met. For a few seconds, as a runner passes by, hundreds of people are rooting for them. No one expects anything in return, and no personal connection is required. Just a sidewalk full of people reminding someone to keep going.

There’s something incredibly generous about that. New Yorkers have a reputation for being busy, impatient, and always on their way somewhere. But on marathon Sunday, thousands of people willingly spend hours standing on the sidewalk, cheering for strangers and celebrating individuals they’ve never met. And I think that’s one of the most beautiful things about this city.

New York can be chaotic, overwhelming, (ridiculously) expensive, crowded, and exhausting. Oftentimes, we’re so caught up in our routines that we forget to take a breath and appreciate the city around us. I know I do this. But Marathon Sunday offers a little reminder to do just that. It encourages us to slow down, look around, and participate in something bigger than ourselves.

There’s something beautiful about seeing people from every background, age, and walk of life come together to celebrate something that, in a way, belongs to all of us. You might not be running the 26.2 miles, but you’re still part of the race. Picture this: a runner stumbles, and before they’ve even had a chance to catch their breath, the people lining the sidewalks clap, shout words of encouragement, and urge them to keep going. Someone reaches out a hand, another person starts chanting their name, and suddenly a stranger has an entire crowd rooting for them. Moments like these make Marathon Sunday so special. We’re not all running the race, but we’re all cheering it on together.

For one day, the usual frustrations of living in New York seem to take a backseat. The city feels lighter, friendlier, and much more connected. You see it in strangers high-fiving runners, families proudly holding up signs, and neighborhoods that come alive with excitement. An unmistakable sense of optimism hangs in the air, a reminder of the resilience, ambition, and community spirit that make NYC what it is. And honestly, it’s hard not to fall a little more in love with this city when you see it like that.

The marathon may last just one day, but the feeling it leaves you with sticks around long after the last runner crosses the finish line. At least, it did for me. I spent the entire day feeling an overwhelming mix of emotions, and by nightfall, I was practically exhausted. My heart felt tight, tears kept threatening to spill from the corners of my eyes, and I felt unusually emotional, inspired, and, above all, incredibly happy. There’s something about witnessing so much determination, generosity, and genuine human spirit all in one place that stays with you.

By Monday morning, New York is back to being New York. The streets are busy again, everyone is rushing to get somewhere, and the homemade signs that once lined the sidewalks have come down. The city returns to its usual rhythm, and life carries on as always. But for one Sunday in November, something shifts. Strangers become supporters, neighborhoods become celebrations, and the city feels a little more like one big community.

And maybe that’s why I love this day so much. For all the things that make New York chaotic, overwhelming, and occasionally impossible to deal with, marathon Sunday reminds me of everything that makes it worth it. It’s a day filled with heart, excitement, and love for this city. If you ask me, there’s simply no better day to be a New Yorker.

After finishing The Lieutenant’s Nurse, I was desperate for something lighter: a smutty romance, a good, easy read. Then I remembered that my mom had gifted me Fall Shook Up by Piper Sheldon. I started reading and was immediately hooked. I read 70 pages in my first sitting, completely intrigued and desperate to find out what happened next. Fast forward to today, and I’m 250 pages in, about 67% of the way through. Wow, I am ecstatic. I haven’t read a book this quickly in forever.

Something is exciting about finding a book that makes you want to keep reading, especially when it reminds you just how much you enjoy the experience. And lately, I’ve been thinking about how we can encourage more people to feel that way about reading, too.

Recently, Elle Magazine posted on Instagram featuring TikTok star and podcast host Olivia Ponton (@bookedblondeandbusy), who grew up hating reading but now can’t imagine going without it. Ponton says, “If I can influence anyone to read or to think that reading is cool, then my job is done.”

This. This is exactly the kind of influence we need on Gen Z. With 2.7 million followers on Instagram and a podcast where she interviews her favorite authors, Ponton has a platform that can make reading feel exciting and accessible. Rather than simply telling people to read more, she’s encouraging them to make time for books every day and showing that reading can be something to look forward to, not another chore on the to-do list.

There’s always a new place popping up on your feed, a restaurant your friends can’t stop talking about, or a reservation that feels impossible to get(which they usually are). This week, we made our way to The Four Horsemen in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a wine bar and restaurant that feels exactly like the kind of place you want to discover and tell everyone about.

They’re right. Rap music in the late 2010s was something special. I’m talking 2016 to 2019, when it felt like a new song, album, or artist dropped every other week and completely took over. Migos were everywhere, Travis Scott released Astroworld, and Lil Uzi Vert gave us Luv Is Rage 2. The playlists were stacked, the beats were unforgettable, and somehow every song became the soundtrack to a specific memory.

After seeing video after video celebrating the era, I couldn’t help myself. I had to revisit my own high school and college playlists. So I dug through my old rap rotation and started listening to songs I hadn’t played in years. And let me tell you, it felt SO good. Suddenly, I was back in that era, remembering the songs I had on repeat and the feelings attached to them. It’s funny how a few opening notes can transport you straight back to a completely different version of yourself.

The sun is shining, the leaves are slowly turning yellow, orange, and red, and the city seems to come alive in a new way. The streets fill with people pulling out their favorite long coats, brown is back in style (one of my favorite colors to wear, of course), and suddenly even an ordinary walk feels a little more special.

On Tuesday evening, I decided to take a stroll along one of my favorite places in the city: the Hudson River Greenway along the West Side Highway. I headed out just in time for sunset, and I couldn’t have planned it better. The sky was beautiful, the water reflected the last of the evening light, and a gentle breeze made it feel like fall without being cold enough to make me regret leaving the house. People walked, ran, and stopped to take in the view, while sailboats drifted across the river in the distance. For a moment, everything felt a little slower. It was one of those evenings that reminds me why I love living in New York, and why I try to take advantage of these fleeting fall days before the city trades its golden sunsets for freezing temperatures.

Somehow, my boyfriend managed to secure a reservation—what a feat! I was brimming with excitement, as this place has long been on my culinary bucket list. In a city where even the most affordable drink hovers around $18, New Yorkers truly love happy hour—and I’m no exception! On Wednesday night, I enjoyed a delightful girls’ night out with my sister, my mom, my friend, and her mom—essentially a fabulous mama-daughter happy hour!

We chose Stafili Wine Cafe in the West Village for some delicious drinks and bites. The evening was enchanting: fall leaves painted the sidewalks in hues of yellow, the temperature was a perfect 80 degrees—no sweater needed—and a gentle breeze topped it off. It was the ideal setting for a joyful outing!

Stafili is a great place; I think I have mentioned it before. Their mission—that food and wine should be enjoyed in equal measure—shines through in their delicious Greek wines and dishes. From charcuterie platters to bread, sandwiches, and more, they truly deliver. This romance TV genre is huge right now, and the girls are loving it more and more each time. Off Campus was a huge hit—even though that books are better than the show, I still love it. My sister and I are slowly making our way through Crew Girl, and even though the show is a little cringey, I’m obsessed. I am obsessed, like I am literally on the edge of my seat every time I watch, or I’ll look at my sister and be like, “Oh yes, I am obsessed. I love this show,” and she eyes me like, “Huh, really? She teases, but I know she likes it too. It really is a good series.

Concerts are the hottest ticket in town right now. It seems like everyone I know is sharing stories from the crowd. My Instagram and TikTok feeds have been filled with posts from exciting shows like Harry Styles, Audrey Hobart, and many more. This week, it was finally my turn. On Wednesday night, my friend called to tell me that she had tickets to see Chris Brown and Usher; I couldn’t believe it. She was inviting me, and I thought I was dreaming.

The next night, we took several trains to New Jersey, and I witnessed Usher and Chris Brown set MetLife Stadium on fire. Yes, you read that right: Usher and Chris Brown, live! As soon as the lights dimmed, the crowd went wild and pulled out their phones to record. I was swept up in the excitement. I couldn’t believe I was really there. My heart raced as the stage burst into a riot of color and sound. The crowd pulsed with energy, voices rising in unison, and excitement crackled in the air. It was pure magic—a night I will replay in my mind again and again.

That said, here’s how much I read this week and how I’m getting through Sara Ackerman’s The Lieutenant’s Nurse. I read maybe 20-30 pages this week (I know it’s not a lot, but I’m trying here). Truth be told, I am struggling in a way I haven’t with a book in quite some time. The pace is hard, and there is a lot of war lingo that is hard to follow. I don’t want to DNF (did not finish) it because I want to challenge myself to finish it, so we’ll see how that goes.

I really enjoy certain aspects of the story, particularly Eva, the female main character. I find her incredibly fascinating. She is charming, even though she is hiding a significant secret that we, as readers, haven't uncovered yet. Eva catches the attention of Lieutenant Clark Spencer, the male lead, who also harbors his own secret. However, Eva’s past—and the future she is trying to build—prevents her from following her heart.

A new restaurant, bar, or coffee shop opens in New York City all the time—one more expensive than the last (yay, spending more money!). I visited a new coffee shop this week that I really liked: Devoción in DUMBO. I met up with a new peer to discuss the editorial world. Even though it’s known for its good coffee, I chose an iced green tea and a slice of banana bread. The place was spacious, comfortable, and cozy, making it a great spot to chat with someone new. They have a couple of locations around the city, so it’s a wonderful place to check out. I will be back to try the coffee next time.

Recently, a lot of new shows have been coming out on streaming platforms, and the girls are talking about them on social media. Crew Girl is one I have been seeing and hearing a lot about. A close friend told me, “Luiza, you have to watch this show; it’s so good.” I'd had it in the back of my mind to start it soon; I just haven’t pulled the trigger. But this week I finally did; I watched only the first episode, and I instantly understood what my friend meant.

It’s good, cringey, but one of those shows taht you watch one episode and then immediately need to continue to see what happens next. I love shows like that, a mix of drama, romance, and a scandal between the main character and her family. Another show that generated a lot of buzz on social media is the coming-of-age series Sterling Point on Prime Video. I started the first episode but didn’t finish it, though I got the gist. I definitely plan to catch up and watch the rest of the series because I’m curious to see how Annie’s life in Muskoka will unfold.

Fall has officially arrived (kind of), and I couldn’t be more excited! Today (I’m writing this Thursday), the sunny 73-degree weather still feels summery, but cool nights dipping into the low 60s remind us autumn is on its way (I hope).

The buzz around Halloween costumes is already heating up, fleece jackets are making a comeback, and yes, the beloved pumpkin spice latte is back in full swing! We New Yorkers are ready to embrace all that fall has to offer. Autumn in New York City is truly magical—everything feels a bit more enchanting, and you can sense the excitement in the air!

The weather has been absolutely delightful lately! On Wednesday evening, I took my usual stroll by the Hudson River, and it was simply breathtaking. Picture this: I wore a cozy crewneck and a fuzzy jacket, but by mile 1, I was SWEATING. It’s a testament to how wonderfully warm it still is.

As I was walking, I paid close attention to what the girlies were wearing, and I noticed the usual: Alo leggings, fleece sweaters, Salomon sneakers. But something new and trending was seen on almost everyone I saw. The wired headphones are SO back, and so in. Are you rocking the wired look as well? I’m still with my AirPods, but maybe I’ll switch over- who knows.

Prime Day is a widely recognized sale, but when it comes down to it, do we all truly care? Perhaps not, and that’s perfectly fine. Personally, I find myself overly invested, sometimes to a fault, because I covet so many items but can’t possibly buy everything I want.

Every time I opened Instagram during the lead-up to Prime Day, I was bombarded with ads highlighting lists like “Halley Kate’s Prime Day Picks” and “Shop Acquired Style’s picks.” These curated lists featured enticing options, from top skincare products to makeup, trendy clothing, and hair care essentials—pretty much everything a shopping enthusiast could dream of.

Despite the temptation, I made a conscious effort to restrain myself and focused on only purchasing what I really needed. I ended up buying a long-sleeve shirt, a comfortable pair of flats, and a chic skirt that would be perfect for the upcoming fall season. I envisioned this as the ideal outfit for various outings during the crisp autumn days ahead.

Now, the big question is: will I keep everything I ordered? I guess I’ll find out soon enough once the packages arrive and I can try everything on to see if it fits as well as I hope!

I have been trying to get more into historical fiction, so on my trip to Hawaii, I picked up a book called The Lieutenant’s Nurse by Sara Ackerman, which I am currently reading. I was a little hesitant at first because I am not a big fan of third-person books; for some reason, it stresses me out, and I have always preferred first-person perspectives. However, I am enjoying it much more than I expected. Ackerman’s writing is smooth and feels different in a way I can’t quite pinpoint. Perhaps it’s because it’s set during wartime in Pearl Harbor, and you can sense the tense energy radiating off the pages. I love the mix of romance and intense conflict.

Unfortunately, it’s been a slow read, and I am not as far along as I would like. Hopefully, by the end of this week, I will have more to share in my next report!

Eating.

As I’ve mentioned before, my boyfriend is a huge foodie, and I guess I am slowly becoming one as well. This past weekend, on October 3, we attended Infatuation’s Eatscon 2026, where they bring some of the best restaurants from New York City and other cities to Pier 76 in Manhattan. The event goes all day; we arrived at 11 a.m. and left at 3:30 p.m. We almost rolled out of there like a ball because we were so stuffed!

Some of the highlights:

• The Banh Mi from Golden Hof x Banh An Em: This was the best Banh Mi sandwich I think I have ever had. I’m a big fan of the balance between crunchy onions and carrots and the softness of the bread and meat.

• Bark Barbecue: This place truly surprised me. They were almost out of everything when we got to their stand, but thankfully they had some delicious brisket left with a side of cornbread. The cornbread is drizzled with a sauce that tastes like dulce de leche but has a different consistency. So, so good!

• Ceres Pizza: I am a huge pizza lover, and Ceres is a spot that is hard to get into and only serves whole pies for about $80, but not at Eatscon—they serve by the slice. It was delicious; the olive oil is the star, and it is fantastic. Great pizza!

I always listen to music when I’m out and about. When I’m walking around New York City, I need music in my ears. My AirPods are always in. I want to listen to more music every day, so I’ve been trying to increase my listening time (got to boost my Wrapped numbers, haha!).

I’ve also been watching Season 3 of My Life With the Walter Boys on Netflix. It’s still as cringeworthy as ever, but I’m going to keep watching it because, despite the cringe, I’m excited to see how the storyline unfolds.

I started a Bookstagram account not long ago, and it’s been so much fun! Although it can be challenging to stay consistent, I really enjoy posting, meeting new people who love books as much as I do, and discovering new recommendations. I’ve already added several titles to my TBR for fall, and I’m super excited to dive into them. I haven’t really explored fall-themed books before, so this should be a great experience! I think I will start with either “You Again” by Kate Goldreck or “Trust Fall” by Lynn Painter, but I’m not sure yet, so we’ll see!

Even though I hate paying $8 for coffee in New York City, sometimes you have to. Sometimes, you really need a coffee. I’m a sucker for La Colombe Coffee, but this time I decided to switch it up and go to Vesuvio Bakery on Prince Street in Soho. I ordered my usual: an iced latte with vanilla and almond milk (which explains why my drink is so expensive—yes, I know, haha). It was delicious! I took my first sip and was hooked. I thought to myself, “Oh yeah, I am definitely getting this again” (not all the time, for money reasons, of course). But it felt like a nice treat, for sure.

I just got a new pair of glasses, and I couldn’t be more excited! Typically, I go for big round frames that offer both comfort and support for my strong prescription. This time, I decided to step outside my comfort zone and try a smaller, adorable pair in a lovely color. I have a mix of nerves and excitement—what if they don’t work out? But I can’t help but think: what if they do? I’ll definitely keep you all updated on how it goes. It’s thrilling to embrace something new and see where this journey takes me!

Which leads me to this moment, pencil in hand. My boyfriend and I discovered Harbor House Inn on YouTube and were instantly enchanted. We shared a glance, and both declared, “We have to go there.” Now, two years later, we’ve made it. Harbor House Inn rests in Elk, California, about three hours north of San Francisco. Had you heard of it? I hadn’t either, until that serendipitous YouTube find.

Harbor House Inn, established in 1916, is both a two-Michelin-star restaurant and a Michelin Key hotel—pretty incredible, right? Perched on the Mendocino coastline, it offers sweeping Pacific Ocean views. This is the very definition of tranquility, where only the sounds of nature fill the air—no chatter, no music, just you and the wild beauty all around.

That’s exactly how I feel in this moment, jotting down thoughts in my notebook on a bench overlooking the ocean, surrounded by a quilt of vibrant flowers. I am completely at peace, a feeling I haven’t known in so long. Honestly, I didn’t expect to write today—I brought my trusty pencil and notebook, but inspiration felt distant. Yet here I am, letting the words pour out.

Lately, I’ve been in a writing slump. The words just haven’t come naturally, and I haven’t written anything worthwhile—or anything at all—in quite some time. So sitting here and letting the words spill out feels incredible. Inspiration has returned, and I feel so grateful to be writing creatively again, not just churning out reports. Writing, I missed you dearly, and I hope you missed me too. This place feels truly special. The energy, the nature, and the people at Harbor House Inn are extraordinary. Today, the sky is crystal clear, not a single cloud in sight. The sun glimmers on the water, the trees sway gently in the breeze, and the waves crash in a mesmerizing rhythm. It is spectacular.

​There is something deeply powerful about being by the ocean in a place of stillness. My best ideas and deepest focus always seem to come when I’m near the water. On a day like today, I never planned to write, but here I am, letting the words find their way. I’m currently reading And Now Back to You by B.K. Borison, the second book in the Heartstrings series! At first, I was struggling with the story. It felt slow, and I couldn’t really get into it, which was frustrating because I loved First Time Caller and thought this one would feel similar. Thankfully, I am now thoroughly invested in the book and excited to keep reading to see what happens next.

B.K. Borison excels at creating swoon-worthy characters, funny banter, and plot twists that you would never expect to be spicy, especially when the characters seem so put together.

Eating.

My boyfriend celebrated his 25th birthday (yay, quarter-life crisis!) at the lovely restaurant One White Street in Tribeca. This place is a hidden gem with great food, fantastic music, and even better service. The one Michelin star is 100% deserved. I love it when the atmosphere is top-tier, paired with exquisite food and service, creating an amazing experience you will remember for a lifetime.

We enjoyed delicious wines—white, red, and champagne. For starters, we had tuna crudo and a little gem salad, followed by chicken, Montauk bass, and cavatelli with tomato sauce and shrimp for the main course. The food was incredibly tasty, and the flavors were delightful.

One White Street is a perfect spot for a fancy and special occasion, so save it for when you are celebrating something!

My Life With the Walter Boys season three just came out on Netflix, and I am so hooked! This show is so bad that it’s good. It has all the cringey moments, but nevertheless, you’re on the edge of your seat, looking forward to what will come next. There’s a love triangle between two brothers—check! I’ve only watched the first episode and a bit of the second, so I’m definitely excited to keep watching and see what happens!

I recently created an Instagram account for Through and Through the City with Lu, and it has been such a rewarding experience. I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, but I kept pushing it back, and it finally happened! I’m excited to connect with new creatives, share my favorite books, and establish a solid presence on Instagram to grow my platform.

Building my Canva posts definitely takes a lot of work and time, but it’s absolutely worth it. I’ve been teaching myself how to use Canva to make my posts look cute and artistic. It’s been great because I’ve been eager to learn Canva for so long! While I’m not an expert just yet, I’m starting to get the hang of things, and each post is an opportunity to improve.

I have mentioned before that I love buying books in the places I visit. During a trip to Maine, I stumbled upon a charming little bookstore and picked up a book set in Maine: Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes. I found this book a bit challenging to read. It felt slow at times and dragged on, but I still managed to finish it. I rated it three stars on Goodreads. It was a cute story, but the pacing made it hard for me to enjoy it fully.

I’m currently reading First Time Caller by B.K. Borison. I’m only about 50 pages in, so I don’t have too much to say since I’m just at the beginning. However, I can already tell you that it’s made me laugh quite a few times. I’m excited to keep reading and see where the story goes!

Eating.

I visited a quintessential New York City restaurant this week: Minetta Tavern, located on Macdougal Street. The ambiance is captivating, with its dim lighting, original artwork adorning the walls, and cozy red booth seats, all complemented by vintage photographs that transport you back in time. The waitstaff operates like a well-rehearsed team, gracefully placing and clearing dishes with impeccable timing.

The atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit, but the food—now that was perfection. I ordered the Filet au Poivre, and it was served to absolute perfection. The portion was generous, truly justifying the price. Each bite was a delight, bursting with flavor, and cooked to my liking.

For dessert, we ordered their famous soufflé for two. We tried both flavors, but the chocolate was my absolute favorite—what can I say, I love chocolate! It was served with ice cream, and since there were three of us, we ordered all three flavors: salted caramel, vanilla, and dark chocolate. I really enjoy chocolate dishes paired with chocolate ice cream; I think it’s the cherry on top!

If you’re looking for a true taste of New York, Minetta Tavern is an experience you shouldn’t miss!

I’ve been absolutely loving Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast on Netflix! Seriously, it’s like a warm hug in audio form. The lightness and tenderness of the show really hit the spot. Every episode feels like hanging out with your funniest friend who can’t help but laugh at everything. Poehler’s infectious giggles create such a good vibe, and her energy with the guests is off the charts! If you’re ever feeling down or find yourself stuck in that doom-scrolling rabbit hole, trust me, this podcast is the perfect antidote.

I used to hate, and I mean really hate, running and never wanted to do it again. However, I’ve found myself running 2-3 times a week now! It has become therapeutic for me and something I look forward to doing. For some reason, I struggle to focus on running outside; I can only do it on the treadmill. It might sound silly because everyone says that running outdoors is much better, but being inside the gym helps me concentrate and run better.

I discovered some guided interval runs on YouTube, and they have been incredibly helpful as I get back into running and actually want to do it. They provide motivation and step-by-step guidance, which helps ease my stress.

The brigadeiro cake slice from Brigaderio Bakery never disappoints, but this week it was truly exceptional. I had been craving this indulgence all day on Wednesday, and it turned out to be the perfect way to unwind after a long workday. The rich, chocolatey goodness paired with that delightful creamy texture was everything I needed. Each bite felt like a little celebration, making all my stress melt away. I can’t help but rave about Brigaderio Bakery! I’ve recommended it time and again, but honestly, if you haven’t tried it yet, run over as soon as possible and treat yourself.

I love Uniqlo for their basics; the prices are affordable and reasonable. The material is great quality, lasts a long time, and definitely gives you good value for your money. Just the other day, I went shopping and picked up some baggy linen pants. I know summer is ending soon (UGHH), but I couldn’t resist! Linen is perfect for staying cool, and I know I’ll continue to enjoy wearing them into early fall. Plus, they’ll be easy to layer with sweaters as the weather gets cooler. Uniqlo truly excels at combining comfort and style without breaking the bank!

I drag myself to the elevator and jab the button, maybe a little too hard. When the doors open, I almost collide with someone. Holy hell. He’s tall, dressed in a navy suit, and his smile could melt even the iciest mood. His cologne wraps around me, warm and sharp, like cedar mixed with something mysterious I can’t quite name but want to chase. I mutter an apology, but he just grins, lounging against the mirrored wall. The doors slide shut, and suddenly it’s just us, the low hum of the elevator cables and my heart pounding in my ears.

I lean my head against the elevator wall and sigh—loudly enough that he glances over. “Long day?” he asks.

I let out a short laugh. “Yeah, more like a long week,” I reply, trying to sound casual but probably failing. He raises an eyebrow, amused. “It’s only Tuesday.”

“Exactly my point,” I say, giving him a weary smile. He laughs, and the sound is deep and unexpectedly comforting. He studies me for a moment, curiosity flickering in his dark eyes—a look that feels almost electric. The scent of his cologne lingers in the small space, making it hard to focus. I catch myself staring, but he doesn’t seem to mind.

“Taking a break?” he asks, his voice low and kind.

I nod, cheeks warming. “Yeah. I desperately need a cold drink,” I admit, trying not to sound as parched and desperate to escape the office as I feel.

“I’m Ethan,” he says, extending his hand.

“Liza. Nice to meet you,” I reply, my cheeks flushing. His eyes are dark brown—like melted chocolate, rich and impossible to look away from. He’s so dreamy, it’s almost distracting. My brain can’t help but wander: maybe I just really need to get laid.

I force myself to look away, hoping I’m not as obvious as I feel. Ethan’s still smiling, and when the elevator jolts gently to a stop, I realize we’ve reached the lobby.

He steps forward, pausing before the doors open. “Well, Liza, maybe I’ll see you around,” he says, his voice light but his eyes lingering on mine just a beat too long.

And after the brutal winter we had this year, Summer 2026 in New York City has felt like a reward.

There has been something undeniably special in the air. Between the FIFA World Cup matches and the Knicks bringing home an NBA Championship, the city has been buzzing with an energy that’s impossible to ignore. It’s contagious. You feel it while walking down the sidewalk, riding the subway, grabbing your morning coffee, or squeezing through crowded streets.

Strangers have become a little less like strangers. All it takes is spotting someone in a jersey for the same team you cheer for or hearing a familiar chant. “You’re cheering for x too?” Suddenly you’re talking like you’ve known each other for years. In a city where everyone is usually rushing to get somewhere, this summer has slowed us down just enough to connect—and that’s been one of the best parts.

Restaurants have been overflowing with fans gathering around televisions. Bars have spilled onto sidewalks, packed shoulder to shoulder with people cheering for teams from all over the world. Watch parties have taken over neighborhoods, and Times Square has transformed into one giant celebration. Every match feels like an event, and every victory gives people another reason to gather.

One of my favorite memories from this summer happened the night the Knicks won the NBA Championship.

Earlier that day, my boyfriend and I had gone to the Brazil vs. Morocco World Cup match at MetLife Stadium. Even though it was a tie game, I honestly didn’t care all that much. I had just watched the Brazilian national team play soccer in real life—not through a TV screen or highlights online, but right in front of me. As a Brazilian, that was one of those moments that almost didn’t feel real.

After arriving back in the city, we decided to walk from Penn Station to the West Village and get some steps in. The walk itself felt like a snapshot of New York City. We passed groups of fans still wearing their Brazil jerseys, others wrapped in Morocco flags, people decked out in Knicks gear, tourists trying to figure out where they were going, and New Yorkers weaving through the crowds because they were trying to make their dinner reservations on time. Somehow, everyone had a different destination, yet we were all sharing the same excitement.

The city just felt... alive.

We ended up at a bar in Greenwich Village for the second half of the game. The crowd was so big that we were blocking traffic on the street. Everyone was locked in, eyes focused on the screens in front of them. There was a palpable silence; we were nervous; it was a tight game. There was a lot of tension in the air; people had their hands in their heads, bringing them down their faces, sighing.

Then, before I knew it, the Knicks had won.

Within seconds, everyone watching exploded. Friends were hugging each other. Champagne was flying through the air. Garbage trucks rolled by blasting their horns as if they were joining the celebration. Music started playing from every direction, and people poured into the streets.

Before long, the roads were completely packed. Cars couldn’t get through. People climbed onto crosswalk signs, stood on top of food trucks, waved flags, danced, and celebrated with anyone standing next to them. Nobody cared if they knew each other. For one night, everyone was simply happy.

The celebration didn’t end there. After leaving the bar, we made our way to Washington Square Park. Technically, the park was closed, but that didn’t stop anyone. The gates were knocked down, and everyone poured through the entrance, still carrying the excitement from the streets. The fountain was turned off, and people were dancing inside it; music was playing, strangers were laughing, and the entire park felt like one big celebration.

It was one of those moments where you stop and look around and think, this is New York City—a place where a random summer night can turn into a memory you’ll carry forever. Thousands of people who had never met before were suddenly sharing the same joy, the same energy, and the same feeling of being exactly where they were supposed to be.

I think that’s what I’ve loved most about this summer. It has reminded me that New York isn’t just the buildings, the skyline, or the endless list of things to do. It’s the people. It’s thousands of strangers sharing moments they’ll probably never experience together again. It’s celebrating with people you’ll never meet, cheering alongside someone whose name you’ll never know, and citi-biking home thinking, I can’t believe I get to live here.

My New York City heart has never been happier. It will always be New York or Nowhere.🧡

I mentioned before that I needed to pause after finishing The Night We Met by Abby Jimenez, and indeed, I did. That emotional rollercoaster left a lasting impression on me, and I needed time to reflect on the characters and the story’s poignant moments. I wanted to ensure I was ready for my next literary adventure.

After a few days, I felt refreshed and eager to start a new story. I headed to the library to check out a new book. The smell of old pages and the whispers of fellow book lovers always fill me with a sense of peace. I have been eager to read The Deal by Elle Kennedy. After watching the show Off Campus on Prime Video, I’m desperate to jump back into the story. Although I read it years ago, I want a refresher, especially after seeing the show.

However, I’ve unfortunately found it challenging to dive deeply into the story so far. Every time I open the book, I feel myself fighting off sleep. This week has been particularly exhausting. Between work, a few late nights out with friends, watching the Knicks game, and trying to manage a tangled schedule, I feel quite drained. The fatigue has been relentless, and I often find myself rereading the same line without absorbing it. I’m definitely looking forward to taking some much-needed time to read this weekend.

Eating.

One thing about me is that I love a good sandwich, especially an Italian one. There’s a place called Al’Antico Vinaio, an Italian sandwich shop known for its delicious offerings. Originally from Florence, Italy, it brings authentic flavors that transport you to a small street in Italy.

There is a location just a five-minute walk from my house, and I love having it so nearby. The other day, I went there with my sister for dinner, and we both ordered their La Toscana sandwich, which comes with Salame Toscano, pecorino cheese, and the best part: truffle honey. We also added arugula for a nice touch. If you have never tried Al’Antico Vinaio, I couldn’t recommend it more!

I am currently watching Love Island US Season 8. I’m not quite caught up yet, so I’m playing catch-up and trying to watch episodes as quickly as possible. I’m curious to see what this season brings. So far, I’ve noticed a lot of drama, which is typical for the early days in the villa, and I expect plenty more to come.

I had the opportunity to attend the World Cup match between Brazil and Morocco at MetLife Stadium last Saturday, and it was absolutely incredible. The energy was wild, packed, loud, with big cheers, and full of spirit. Never in my life had I attended a soccer game, and I was so ready to experience it. I could not believe I had actually gone and was there, watching the Brazilian soccer team play. I saw it with my own eyes right in front of me, not on TV. I am incredibly blessed to have been granted this opportunity, and I will never forget it.

As I was coming home, I joined a crowd of people standing outside a bar on Bleecker Street, watching the second half of the Knicks game on a small television. There were big crowds, loud cheers, and an even greater sense of excitement—this is New York City!

The energy has been incredible lately, with the World Cup taking place and the Knicks winning the championship. New Yorkers are in great spirits, and the vibrant atmosphere fills the streets. It has been wonderful to step outside and feel the warmth in the air, both literally and figuratively. People are excited, watch parties are happening, and the community is growing and thriving. It is truly amazing.

For a while now, I have been doing Peloton cycling classes at my gym, and I have become obsessed. I recently downloaded the app, which offers quite a few free class options, including full-body strength, core workouts, and more. Obviously, more features come with a membership (which I haven’t gotten yet), but it is still a great app for guided workouts, especially when you’re not feeling 100% and need that extra push.

If you enjoy cycling, I highly recommend Peloton’s on-demand cycling classes. Their motto, “Feel good, look good, do better,” is truly inspiring. I always love how I feel after a bike workout. Is it hard? Yes. But do I feel amazing afterward? Absolutely!

If you decide to take a Peloton class, Cody Rigsby is my favorite instructor. I can’t recommend his classes enough. The music is always a vibe, and he has great energy!

On Thursday, June 18th, 2026, Lower Manhattan buzzed with excitement as the Knicks paraded through the streets to celebrate their remarkable championship victory. It felt like millions of fans had transformed the city into a vibrant sea of blue and orange, united in their love for the team. The atmosphere was electric, with people of all ages donning jerseys and waving flags in joy.

Although I didn’t make it down to the parade right at 10 a.m. when it officially kicked off, arriving later only made me feel more immersed in the beautiful chaos around me. The streets pulsed with laughter, cheers, and classic New York songs, creating a truly heartwarming sense of community. It was a day I’ll always remember, celebrating not just a victory but the unifying spirit of the city and its passionate fans.

I finished The Night We Met by Abby Jimenez, and I haven’t been able to pick up another book since. The story keeps playing on repeat in my head, and I simply can’t shake it off—nor do I want to just yet. There was something about this book that stood out to me and continues to linger. I genuinely enjoyed reading her work; I have always appreciated how Jimenez writes complicated love stories with characters who have intricate backgrounds.

As I write this, I feel a sudden urge to visit the library and grab a new book. I can’t wait to start reading again. Reading has always been one of my favorite pastimes, and I tend to get bored when I don’t have a book in hand. There’s something magical about getting lost in a story, immersing myself in different worlds, and experiencing the lives of diverse characters.

Eating.

I had Cava for the first time recently and have been obsessed with it ever since. I love the bowls there; everything is so flavorful and meshes together perfectly. It’s one of my favorite bowl places in the city. I could probably eat there every day if I wanted to—it’s that good to me. I also enjoy eating my little bowl on a park bench in Soho, soaking up the sun. It’s such a nice feeling.

On Wednesday night, I caught up with a friend over dinner in the West Village, on Carmine Street, at a place called Nami Nori. As soon as we sat down, I was excited; I had already looked at the menu online before heading over and was ecstatic. Everything looked delicious! After we got settled in, we started with some cocktails. I ordered the strawberry one, although I don’t remember the name, and then we placed our food orders. I chose the temaki starter set—it’s the best way to do it since you get a bang for your buck with five temaki rolls for a set price.

We also got some spicy tuna dip to start, which came with light and airy chips. The tuna dip was delicious—so fresh and flavorful, with spices that danced on my tongue perfectly. Following the dip, our rolls started coming out. And it was divine. The rice on the inside and the crispy seaweed on the outside were just right. Each bite got progressively better; the dishes were incredible, and the rolls paired so well. I was very happy!

Like every other girl (and maybe guys, too?), I’ve been watching “Off Campus” on Prime Video. I just finished the series this week, and I am so emotional! Gosh, I love this show so much. The characters are great —like Wyesss, a college TV show without any mean girls, featuring hot guys and good friends. The energy is so good: exciting, fun, and filled with the emotions of relationships and life. I really appreciate how themes of love, family, class, and different lifestyles are all explored.

I read The Deal by Elle Kennedy a while back, and I think I also read The Score, but I can’t quite remember. I was beyond excited to watch the series. I used to spend hours imagining what Garrett Graham and Dean Di Laurentis looked like. Imagining each scene of Garrett and Hannah together and seeing it come to life on screen was even better. Although I think they looked different in my imagination, they still look hot on screen, and that is fantastic to me (haha)!

Obsessing.

Hot girl walk season is finally back in New York City, and I couldn’t be more excited! Recently, I’ve been walking by the Hudson River (as usual) and soaking up the sun. When my feet start to hurt, I take a seat at Pier 26 and sink deeply into the wooden chairs as I read for hours, almost falling asleep.

If you haven’t had the chance to walk along the Hudson River path, make sure to do so this summer! I promise you won’t regret it one bit. Wear comfy shoes, grab an iced drink, walk with a friend, and enjoy!

Recommending.

Although I’m not a fan of paying $7 for a small iced coffee, I can’t help but recommend La Colombe Coffee highly. This place truly stands out for its exceptional offerings, and luckily, it has a few locations around the city for convenience.

The coffee itself is rich and flavorful, making every sip enjoyable. La Colombe also features a variety of special flavors and unique brews that keep things interesting. Whether you’re a fan of classic blends or looking to try something new, there’s always something delightful to discover.

I have been loving this weather, even though it's already extremely hot, and I’ve been taking advantage of it by walking everywhere. I’m trying to be outside as much as possible. Reading.

I was working on my book at the library when I suddenly felt an overwhelming urge to check out a book from the New York Public Library next door. So, I set aside my writing and made my way over. I stumbled upon “The Night We Met” by Abby Jimenez and immediately picked it up and checked it out. I was elated—I’ve always loved reading Abby Jimenez’s books; they feel so smooth and comforting, like a warm hug.

Her use of detail and description is spot on, and her characters resonate deeply. Even if they don’t make sense together at first, there’s something about them that just clicks. Her work is truly a chef’s kiss, and it inspires me in my own writing.

I headed over to sit by the water to enjoy the nice weather, and I ended up reading 50 pages in one sitting, followed by another 50 pages later that day. I was hooked. I was in the mood to be captivated by a book and didn’t want to put it down. So, I did exactly that.

As I write this, I’m about 170 pages in, and by the time I post this article, I’ll likely be around 200 pages. It’s safe to say that I’m really enjoying this book!

Eating.

I spent the long weekend outside the city with my family and some family friends. Despite the awful weather, we still gathered together and prepared a delicious meal. My boyfriend grilled up a storm, making a Brazilian barbecue. He cooked picanha (top sirloin), fraldinha (flank steak), linguiça (sausage), and many other tasty treats.

As we gathered around the table, the aroma of the barbecue filled the air, making our mouths water in anticipation. The sun peeked through the clouds every now and then, creating a cozy atmosphere despite the rainy weather. We shared stories and laughed a lot together. It was amazing.

I recently discovered the series Running Point on Netflix and have been enjoying it quite a bit. I typically watch it in the morning as I eat breakfast. It is the perfect way to start my day; the show is lighthearted, fun, and overall filled with good vibes.

The cast is hilarious, with great chemistry that makes their interactions feel genuine. The jokes are cringey but funny, and they often leave me chuckling out loud. Each episode is packed with quirky situations that keep me entertained, and I appreciate how relatable the humor is. It reminds me of those lighthearted sitcoms from my childhood that always delivered a good laugh.

Obsessing.

I have been writing a lot recently, and it has felt amazing. It has been a year since I opened the draft of my book. I was putting it off because I wasn’t feeling good about it and, frankly, I wanted to start over for the third time. My boyfriend has been a huge supporter and motivator during this process, so he definitely helped.

This week, I had a sudden inspiration to write again. Since Tuesday, I have written three new chapters. It’s a word dump—just that “shitty first draft” material. My creative teacher in college always says the first draft is the worst one, so I’m not too concerned. But I am writing again, and it feels so good! I am so excited to keep this story going!

It is officially happy hour season, and I am on the hunt for the best and most affordable places to go. The West Village is one of my favorite areas for happy hour, and I discovered Roey’s after seeing it on TikTok. It looked delicious! I arrived at 5:05 and put my name down on the list for a table for two. The wait was about 15 minutes, but we were seated beforehand (yay!).

We sat down and ordered two Rosemary’s Spritzes and a Margherita pizza. The Spritzes are $5 each, and the pizza is $10 during happy hour. Naturally, we ordered two rounds of drinks. We sat outside, people-watching and chatting, and it was perfect.

If you’re looking for an affordable happy hour spot in the West Village, Roey’s is an excellent choice, and I will definitely be going back soon. The drinks are divine, and the pizza is amazing!

Treating.

I initially had no plans to indulge in a sweet treat after happy hour; it simply wasn’t on my agenda. However, as I walked by Little Sweet Treat, I felt tempted to stop in and grab a bit of candy. I thought to myself, “Why not? It’s perfectly okay to treat yourself now and then.”

I absolutely adore this place! The candy here is so delicious, and it doesn’t leave me feeling sluggish like traditional candies like Sour Patch Kids or Skittles do. Those options always leave me feeling a bit off afterward. At Little Sweet Treat, however, I feel like I’m making a better choice, even if it’s just in my head!

I checked out, opened the bag, and popped a sour candy into my mouth. It was perfect! It’s more than just a snack; it’s a way to celebrate the little moments in life. Sometimes, you just need to embrace that sweetness!

I just finished reading A Family Matter by Claire Lynch, and I did so faster than I ever imagined—it’s definitely the quickest I’ve read a book in a while, and that felt amazing. I really liked the story; it was interesting and highly emotional. I felt a constant grip on my heart throughout, pulling me in deeper. There is a lot of sadness in this book, so much so that I’m surprised I didn’t cry. I guess I’m realizing that I don’t cry from books as much as I used to—haha!

Unfortunately, I wasn’t too fond of the ending. It felt abrupt, as if there was just a sentence to conclude it, and then that was it. It left off like a cliffhanger, catching me by surprise. I found myself sitting with a puzzled look on my face, the book closed on my lap. I had to open it again just to reread the last line to really understand how the book ended.

Overall, I truly enjoyed it; it teaches lessons about love, family, custody battles, and the possibility of carrying pain that lasts a lifetime. I rated it 4 out of 5 on Goodreads.

Almost immediately after I finished A Family Matter by Claire Lynch, I picked up the next book on my list, The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. I have been quite fond of his books recently, so I was super excited to get started on this one. I was also thrilled about the prospect of finishing two books in one month; this would be huge for me! I hope it happens, and it probably will because I am flying through The Midnight Library.

Gosh, I love this man’s books! I appreciate how he writes about life and prompts us to reflect on our own experiences. Are we truly happy? Can we unlock feelings we didn’t realize we had before? I truly believe I am changed after reading his work.

Eating.

Every morning, my boyfriend sweetly asks me to send him a picture of my breakfast, which I find absolutely charming. Lately, I’ve been focusing on incorporating more fruits and protein into my meals, particularly after my morning gym sessions.

My breakfast staples include eggs, a variety of fruits, kefir yogurt, and iced coffee. I typically switch between bananas, strawberries, kiwis, and pineapple, and I make sure to have at least two of these fruits daily. I can’t help but have a soft spot for bananas; they’re just so delicious and satisfying!

So, each morning, I take a moment to capture a picture of my breakfast and send it to him. Here are some of my favorite and most delicious breakfast creations from the past week. I love sharing this part of my day with him, and it’s such a fun way to stay connected!

I have been binge-watching Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story while eating my breakfast every day. I love starting my day this way! The show is fantastic, and some people even say that Queen Charlotte is better than the original Bridgerton series. I’m not sure if I can agree with that, but I am really enjoying it.

I particularly love the sneaky bits of modernity, like the classical rendition of “If I Ain’t Got You” (an Alicia Keys cover) during one of the balls. It’s such a great touch—subtle but definitely does not go unnoticed!

I recently tried the Joe and the Juice Hydration Station signature juice, and it was delicious. If you’re looking for a refreshing pick-me-up that fuels your thirst while also being tasty, this is the perfect choice.

The last day of the Sephora Spring sale was this Monday (4/20/26), and I treated myself to a little shopping spree! The excitement in the store was contagious! I managed to grab a couple of restocks and a few new products that caught my eye.

1. Amika Frizz-Me-Not Hydrating Anti-Frizz Treatment

   1. As a girl with curly hair that often becomes frizzy in the heat of New York, I have been desperate for a product that can hold my curls and prevent my hair from looking like a crazy mess. I’m especially concerned about keeping my hair in place when it blows out. A lovely Sephora sales associate recommended this product to me because I can use it when my hair is wet and curly, as well as when it’s dry from a blowout. I also loved that it can work as a leave-in conditioner, which is a bonus. So excited to try it out this weekend!

      

2. Sephora Collection All Day Setting Spray.

   1. I absolutely swear by this setting spray! It’s honestly one of the best products I’ve come across, and it’s affordable, which we love. This spray keeps my makeup locked in place, and it truly lives up to its name—my look lasts ALL day long! I feel fabulous every time I use it.

      

3. Hyaluronic Acid by The Inkey List

   1. As someone with dry skin, I can’t say enough about how much this product has truly transformed my skincare routine. I can’t imagine my routine without it! I’ve been using it for a couple of years now, and I cannot go without it. My skin feels plump and hydrated, which is especially important in New York during the winter. I highly recommend it!

      

4. Saie Glowy Super Gel Lightweight Dewy Multipurpose Illuminator in shade WarmGlow

   1. A long time ago, I had this product, but it didn’t work for me. I think I unfortunately bought the wrong color. I hadn’t planned on buying it when I went into the store, but I gave in and thought, “Yeah, I definitely want to look glowy this spring and summer, so why not give it a try?” I bought the mini version to test it out before fully committing.

      

5. Amika Superfruit Star Lightweight Hair Styling Oil

   1. Last but certainly not least, I bought another Amika product—a hair oil. I’ve been using one from Kerastase, but it feels way too heavy and makes my hair look overly oily, even after washing. I wanted something with a light finish that still adds shine. The sales associate in the store recommended this product, and I am beyond excited to give it a try. I really hope it provides the nourishment my hair needs without the extra weight!

We walk hand in hand along the path by the beach, the ocean breeze blowing through our hair, but neither of us cares. For a few moments, it is quiet—nothing but the sound of the waves crashing and the occasional voice of passersby.

I squeeze her hand tighter and pull her closer, wrapping my arms around her waist. I love this girl more and more with every second. I plant a big kiss on her forehead. She blushes and kisses my forehead back, letting out a small chuckle. Then she takes my hand from her waist and kisses my palm.

Our hands reconnect, and I am suddenly very aware of how big my hands are compared to hers, her tiny little fingers interlocking with mine. Something so simple but, in the moment, feels so grave, and I can’t possibly believe how much I am thinking about this, the simplicity of hands. I think she makes me nervous.

My heart races; she makes me feel things I haven’t felt in a long time, or perhaps ever. We continue to walk, listening to the ocean and breathing in the summer air. It is a perfect night.

The moonlight still glows on her, and she looks so beautiful.

I have to stop her in her tracks.

“I love you,” I say softly.

“I love you,” she replies even softer.

I pull her close once more and kiss her. Her skin feels smooth, like whispering silk. I long to run my fingers up and down her arms for hours without getting tired. When our lips meet, everything feels right and electric. Her kiss is the color of a constellation falling into place. There is nothing quite like it; I want to live in this moment forever. I pull back slightly to gaze into her eyes—those deep, expressive blue eyes that always hold a thousand unspoken words.

“Can you believe how lovely this night is?” I ask, my voice barely above a whisper.

“It feels like a dream come true,” she replies, her eyes sparkling under the moonlight. “Like something out of a fairytale.”

We resume our walk, our fingers intertwined, and I can’t help but steal glances at her radiant smile. Every laugh, every shared secret, feels monumental. Each moment is etched into my memory, vivid and alive.

I think back to the sensation of her skin against mine, vibrant and alive, like a flame burning brightly. Gently, I run my index finger up and down her arm, soothingly. Her strawberry blonde hair dances in the wind, and she appears magical, just like a dream come true.

Last week, I shared my excitement about diving into the first Bridgerton book, The Duke and I, by Julia Quinn. That thrill is still 100% there, but then fate intervened at McNally Jackson on Prince Street in Soho. I spotted A Family Matter by Claire Lynch on the front table, labeled “new in fiction,” and simply couldn’t walk away. I cracked open the first four pages right there, swaying on my feet, and instantly felt a spark. I just had to keep reading.

The past few days have been filled with beautiful weather and lots of reading outside at Pier 26, which is my favorite spot. I’m about halfway through the book now, and the story still pulls at my heart. There’s a bittersweet sadness in the pages that makes me want to keep reading and feel every emotion with Maggie and Heron.

Eating.

​Two Hands is a cozy Australian spot I’ve loved since I was a little girl growing up in the city. It’s a great restaurant for a flavorful snack or lunch. My friend and I went there for lunch on Wednesday, and it was pure bliss. The weather was gorgeous, and we snagged a window seat, soaking up the sunshine while enjoying the cool air inside.

I ordered a quinoa salmon bowl with lots of greens, shredded carrots, and a poached egg. I wanted something healthy, and it tasted great. We also shared a berry smoothie with açai, banana, strawberry, and other tasty ingredients.

Of course, we had to get dessert. We shared the banana bread with espresso mascarpone, and it was just as delicious as always.

This week, I had not one but two unforgettable ice cream moments.

I treated myself to two scoops from Van Leeuwen: chocolate and cookies and cream. It was so good, I almost went back for more. I used to think I didn’t like Van Leeuwen, but as I waited in line, I couldn’t remember why. Every bite was pure joy. Later, I had a craving for vanilla soft serve with rainbow sprinkles, so I bought some and went back to reading. Even though it cost almost eight dollars (yes, it’s that expensive now), I really enjoyed it.

BieberChella happened, and I’m still a bit jealous I couldn’t be there. Watching the videos on social media brought back all my Belieber feelings from when I was younger. I even teared up seeing him perform. Afterward, I put the Journals album on repeat, and it’s just as amazing as ever. It’s definitely my favorite of his.

When the weather is nice, readers seem to appear everywhere, reminding you of the magic of stories and connection. Seeing so many people with their heads in books made me realize how many of us love to read, even if we don’t always notice it.

This week, I managed to work out every single day, and honestly, it felt like such a gift. I’ve been falling a little out of my gym routine lately, and it’s really affecting my mood—everything just feels off when I skip it.

I noticed that when I make it to the gym in the morning, the rest of my day feels brighter and more focused. Even on days when I woke up tired and unmotivated, I pushed myself to go, and I’m genuinely proud of that. Sticking with it made me feel strong and energized all week.

The weather has been so nice that staying inside feels wrong when it’s 85 degrees in April. I spent a lot of time outside, reading, walking my dog, and enjoying the scenery, though I did sneeze a lot because it’s allergy season, even though it feels like July.

​It’s amazing to see the city come alive when the weather is nice! I saw someone on TikTok write, “I am solar powered,” or something like that, and I completely agree. The sun and warm weather are such mood boosters, and it was exactly what I needed.

As she contemplated the origins of the note, Stacey’s mind raced. Was it Claire playing some practical joke? She tended to be a bit too loud and over-the-top, but this felt different. Could it be Paul or Joseph? They were both known for their quirky humor, but even they wouldn’t stoop so low as to target someone like that… right? The more she thought, the more her frustration bubbled to the surface. It didn’t make any sense—why would someone want to frighten her in a finance office of all places?

Stacey pulled the sticky note off and tossed it in the trash bin by her desk. The movement was almost therapeutic; she felt powerful for a moment, as if she’d defeated whatever bizarre conspiracy was trying to creep into her daily routine. There was no way she could take a note seriously that was written in a kid’s marker. If someone were genuinely trying to convey a serious message, they wouldn’t have chosen something so juvenile. She convinced herself this was merely an instance of childish nonsense.

But the following day, when Stacey arrived at her desk, she was met with two new Post-it notes, both written in deep black ink—definitely not a marker this time. A chill ran down her spine as she glanced around the office. Everything seemed normal, yet an underlying tension simmered just beneath the surface. Claire sat to her right, her voice booming as she chatted animatedly with a client, completely oblivious. Paul and Joseph, the usual late-night stragglers, were half-asleep at their respective computers, typing absentmindedly. Nothing flagged her suspicions, and yet.

Stacey felt a gnawing curiosity mixed with dread. Were those notes meant for her? Or was someone just trying to unnerve her? She shook her head and tossed them into the trash without a second thought, her heart racing as if she were dodging an impending threat.

On yet another day at work, Stacey returned to find two new Post-it notes waiting for her. Dread pooled in her stomach as she hesitated, her instincts warning her that she ought to ignore them. But a morbid curiosity, mixed with growing paranoia, compelled her to read what was written.

The first note urged, “You really should not trust anyone.” Her breath hitched as her mind spiraled into uncertainty. Was she being watched? Who had noticed her days of ignoring the notes? The mere thought of being tracked as some secret project filled her with a sense of violation.

The second note read, “Why do you keep throwing my notes away? I write them just for you.” A wave of horror washed over her, choking her nerves into a tight knot. “Just for you…” The words echoed in her mind, and she felt a stomach-dropping realization that this wasn’t just a joke anymore; someone was deliberately targeting her. Had they been watching her?

A deep-seated paranoia crept in. Stacey felt more alone than ever. The familiar laughter and chatter of her co-workers faded into the background, their camaraderie replaced by a sordid sense of isolation.

Before I get into what I’m currently reading, I have to talk about a book I recently read, The Life Impossible by Matt Haig. I finished it feeling both incredibly light and deeply emotional. It’s one of those books that gently stays with you.

I loved the journey's unexpectedness, the way it explores growth, grief, and the idea that life doesn’t stop evolving just because you’re older. There’s something so comforting in that reminder—that you can still change your life, still make a difference, still find new meaning.

The themes were beautiful, soft, but powerful. I truly think everyone should read this book, especially if you’re feeling a little lost or heavy. It will make you laugh, maybe cry, and feel so much—but in the best, most healing way.

Currently, I’m reading Bridgerton: The Duke and I by Julia Quinn, and I’m honestly loving it. It’s so interesting reading it after watching the show—you get a deeper look into the characters and their emotions.

Quinn writes in such a vivid, engaging way; her words feel alive. You can feel everything the characters are going through, which makes it so easy to get swept into their world. I’m really enjoying it so far and can’t wait to keep going.

Eating.

My current obsession: the yogurt bowls from Chobani Café on Prince Street in Soho. Yes, they are a bit… okay, very expensive—but they’re such a perfect afternoon treat.

I always get the fresh berries yogurt bowl with granola and honey, and it just hits every time. It feels like a little moment of indulgence in the middle of a busy day.

Another highlight this week was Kesté Pizza on Gold Street in FiDi. Such a classic Italian spot and so good. They have a wide variety of pizzas (and can make everything gluten-free!), and it’s perfect if you’re looking for a relaxed, not overly expensive dinner—definitely a go-to.

I’ve been in full catch-up mode with Bridgerton and finally made it to the newest season. I did it.

Now I’m watching it with my boyfriend—who very patiently waited for me to finish seasons 1–3 before starting the new one together (which I appreciate more than anything, honestly).

This show is just so good in every way. The romance, the drama, the visuals—I’m completely hooked.

Obsessing.

The weather in New York City has been getting progressively better (with a few random cold days, because… of course). It’s that in-between season where you want to believe it’s spring, but you still need a jacket.

Still, the sunshine has been everything. It genuinely shifts your mood. Sitting by the water, feeling the sun on your face—it’s such a simple thing, but it makes such a difference. I’ve been soaking it all in whenever I can.

Recommending.

I took my first hot yoga class at ID Hot Yoga in FiDi, and I truly could not recommend it more. I was so nervous going in—mainly about the heat and whether I’d even be able to finish—but it ended up being such an amazing experience.

It felt less like an intense workout and more like a mind-body reset. Slowing down, stretching, breathing with intention—it was exactly what I didn’t realize I needed.

I’ve struggled with upper back and neck pain for a while now, and this kind of movement felt incredibly relieving. It’s not about burning calories—it’s about taking care of your body, opening it up, and moving with purpose.

Treating.

This goes hand in hand with the above, but hot yoga felt like such a treat.

I didn’t realize how much I needed that release until I was in it. I’ve never sweated that much in my entire life—but the feeling afterward? Unreal.

It honestly felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. After a long and overwhelming couple of weeks, it was exactly the reset I needed—and something I’ll definitely be going back to.

On Monday, the first beautiful spring day we had this week, I finished So Old, So Young by Grant Ginder while sitting at the pier. Upon closing the book, I felt my stomach drop. I was in shock from the entirety of the story and wasn’t prepared for it to end. I wanted more chapters, more of Mia and her bizarre but extremely interesting thoughts. I craved more. Nevertheless, the story ended, and I took a moment to breathe, enjoying the sun glistening on my face.

I decided I didn’t want to wait to start another book, so I began The Life Impossible by Matt Haig, a gift from my mom a few months back for Christmas. It had been on my list for a while, and I was eager to check it out. I wasn’t prepared for how I would feel just reading the first page. I immediately felt a profound tug to this story; I needed to know what would come next and couldn’t stop flipping the pages. I read 59 pages in one sitting (yeah, that’s good for me, haha).

I’m now about 30% through the book, and I feel the eeriness creeping in with every page. Grace Winters is an amazing character to follow, and I’m excited to see how her narrative unfolds on the island of Ibiza in Spain.

My food highlight for the week was enjoying my Cava bowl in a park in Soho. It was Monday, the first sunny and glorious day of the week, with temperatures reaching almost 70 degrees. I was desperate to get outside and bask in the sunlight that my pale skin so desperately needed. I grabbed Cava from their Spring Street location and headed to the park. I had an hour for lunch from work, which I spent fully in the sun, and it was marvelous. I read, ate, listened to music, and people-watched—all good vibes.

Playing.

I binge-watched Heated Rivalry and finally finished it. Okay, yes, don’t yell at me–I know I’m late to the game, but I’ve been extremely obsessed with Bridgerton and didn’t have time to watch both and read at the same time. There were way too many characters for my brain to handle, haha. So yes, I finally finished Heated Rivalry and feel the need to rewatch it again very soon.

Obsessing.

My obsession for the week was the lovely weather we experienced in New York. It was finally nice outside—sunny, warm, with a touch of a cool breeze. Everyone was outdoors, walking, running, playing, or whatever. We needed this; I needed this. It felt so good not to wear my puffer jacket even for just 2 days, to bask in the sun, and to stroll along the West Side Highway in sunglasses, leggings, and a cropped tee. Recommending.

I’ve found that when I’m in the mood to read a lot, I tend to start a new book on the same day that I finish one. If I wait too long, I know for a fact I won’t get back to reading and will put it off even more. If you’re like me, I suggest starting a new book shortly after finishing the previous one, if that works for you, of course. It helps me feel productive as I work towards my 2026 reading challenge and push myself to read more.

Treating.

I treated myself to a manicure this week. I went to my nail tech and got a cute short French pink set. I needed to pamper myself and really enjoyed getting my nails done. It felt like a small reset in the middle of a busy week. There’s something about sitting down, slowing down for an hour, and walking out with fresh nails that makes everything feel a little more put together. I was genuinely so happy doing it, and it reminded me that sometimes the smallest acts of self-care can shift your mood in the best way.
