Here’s what the Fathers and Canons Actually Said About Soldiers and Just War

The claim that the early Church was uniformly pacifist, and that any Christian acceptance of military service or just war is a later Constantinian corruption, is a modern invention. It is repeated by neo-pacifists, certain Protestant circles, and those who treat Constantine as the great villain who ruined pure Christianity. The actual record is messier and far less convenient for that narrative.

Scripture already refuses the absolute reading. John the Baptist, when soldiers came to be baptized, did not tell them to abandon their arms. He told them not to extort money, not to accuse anyone falsely, and to be content with their wages (Luke 3:14). The centurion whose faith Christ praised was not instructed to resign (Matthew 8:5-13). Romans 13 treats the civil authority’s power to bear the sword as something instituted by God, not as a temporary pagan anomaly. Christ’s commands about turning the other cheek address personal revenge and the private individual, not the public duty of ordered authority. The Old Testament’s record of defensive and divinely ordered war was never treated as a closed chapter by the Church that received it.

Before Constantine there was no single rule. Christian soldiers existed. Tertullian himself, while strongly opposed to Christians volunteering for military service, acknowledges that believers were already in the camps. His objections in De Corona and De Idololatria center heavily on idolatry - the military oath, the sacrifices, the cult of the emperor and Mithras rather than on an absolute prohibition of killing under any circumstances. Origen takes a similar line in Contra Celsum, arguing that Christians serve the empire better by prayer than by arms, and that they should not shed blood. These are real voices. They are not, however, the entire Church. Practice and local discipline varied, and the existence of Christian soldiers is attested by the very writers who disliked the situation.

The first clear conciliar statement after the legalization of Christianity cuts against the pure-pacifism claim. The Council of Arles in 314, called by Constantine to deal with the Donatist controversy, included this canon: “Concerning those who lay down their weapons in peacetime, it is resolved that they be excluded from communion.” The Latin is unambiguous: De his qui arma proiciunt in pace, placuit abstineri eos a communione. Desertion or abandonment of service in peacetime brought exclusion from the Eucharist. Whatever debates existed under persecution, the bishops meeting at Arles treated continued military service under the new conditions as compatible with membership in the Church.

By the later fourth century the language is even clearer. St. Athanasius, writing to the monk Amun, uses killing in war as the classic example of an act that is forbidden in ordinary circumstances yet lawful and praiseworthy under the right conditions: “It is not right to kill, yet in war it is lawful and praiseworthy to destroy the enemy; accordingly, not only are they who have distinguished themselves in the field held worthy of great honours, but monuments are put up proclaiming their achievements. So that the same act is at one time and under some circumstances unlawful, while under others, and at the right time, it is lawful and permissible.” This is not a reluctant concession. It is offered as ordinary moral reasoning.

St. Augustine’s treatment in Contra Faustum (Book 22) remains the most systematic early statement. He asks what the real evil in war is and answers that it is not the death of men who would die anyway, but “love of violence, revengeful cruelty, fierce and implacable enmity, wild resistance, and the lust of power.” Good men undertake war under God or under lawful authority precisely to punish those evils when force is required. He notes that John the Baptist did not command the soldiers to throw away their arms; he regulated how they served. Augustine also distinguishes the private individual, who may not take up the sword for personal revenge, from the soldier acting under legitimate authority. The framework of legitimate authority, just cause, and right intention is already present.

St. Basil the Great is often cited by those who want a stricter reading. In his canonical letter he observes that the Fathers did not treat killings committed in war as ordinary murder, granting pardon to those fighting in defense of sobriety and piety. He then advises that such men, because their hands are not clean, should abstain from communion for three years. This is pastoral caution and a recognition that bloodshed, even when necessary, still requires purification. It is not a prohibition on military service, nor does it place wartime killing in the same category as deliberate homicide. Basil’s own context on the frontier, dealing with barbarian raids, makes the practical distinction clear.

The later Eastern tradition continued in the same direction. Military saints, the defense of the empire as a Christian duty, and the distinction between clergy (who do not bear arms) and laity (who may) became standard. The Church never adopted the absolute prohibition that some modern writers project backward onto the first three centuries.

None of this means the early Church was bloodthirsty or that every war is justified. The Fathers consistently condemned cruelty, private vengeance, and wars fought for domination or gain. The point is narrower and more stubborn: the claim that authentic early Christianity forbade all military service and treated every killing as murder does not survive contact with the sources. Scripture, the existence of Christian soldiers, the Council of Arles, and the explicit statements of Athanasius, Augustine, and Basil all point the other way. Just war teaching is not a sudden fourth century invention. It is the working out of distinctions that were already present.

Those who insist the early Church was pacifist are not restoring an uncorrupted tradition. They are selecting the most rigorist voices, ignoring contrary practice and later conciliar language, and reading modern assumptions back into the record.

Every atheist knows the 3 a.m. moment.

It comes at funerals, or staring at old photos, or lying awake when the house is quiet. The official story stops working. You’re told you’re a bag of chemistry briefly animated and soon dispersed, and that story works fine at noon on a Tuesday. It doesn’t work in the dark.

I’m not going to quote Scripture at you. I’m going to use the one thing you claim to worship: reason. And I’m going to show you that reason itself belongs to my side, and you’ve been borrowing it the whole time.

Your mind disproves your worldview.

On atheism, your brain is the accidental product of blind forces tuned for one thing: survival. Not truth. Survival. A brain that perceives reality accurately and a brain that believes useful lies are equally fit, and the lying one often wins. So you have to believe two things at once: that your mind is the byproduct of forces with zero interest in truth, and that this same mind has discovered the ultimate truth about those forces. That’s not a conclusion. That’s a magic trick.

Darwin himself saw this. He called it his “horrid doubt”, whether a mind developed from the minds of lower animals can be trusted at all. Modern atheists just stopped quoting that passage.

Science is borrowed property.

Modern science was born once, in one civilization: Christian Europe. Not Greece, not China, not anywhere else. It was born among people who believed the universe was made by a rational Mind, which means it’s intelligible, which means you can study it. The founders of science like Kepler, Newton, Pascal, Faraday, Mendel and Lemaitre weren’t scientists despite their faith. They were scientists because of it. And the universe really did turn out to be written in mathematics, readable by our minds. On atheism that’s a cosmic coincidence. On theism it’s exactly what you’d expect. A book is readable because someone wrote it.

You don’t believe your own morality.

Ask yourself: is anything actually wrong? Not wrong for you. Not culturally wrong. Wrong, even if everyone approves, even if it helps you survive, even if you get away with it forever.

If yes, you’ve admitted a moral law that exists above human opinion and biology. You can’t put “ought” under a microscope. That’s a non material reality binding on everyone, which your worldview says can’t exist. You just smuggled God in under a false name.

If no, then every time you say injustice or human rights you mean “I don’t like that.” And nobody lives that way. Human rights is the image of God with God filed off. You inherited the conclusion and burned the premises, and you’re confused about why the building shakes.

Where this leaves you.

If you’ve read this far, notice what you just did. You followed an argument. You weighed evidence. You felt the pull of logic. None of that is chemistry. You spent this whole article operating as a theist while professing atheism. Everyone does. That’s the point.

The question was never whether God exists. You already live like reason is real, morality binds, and your mind can be trusted, and none of that survives your professed beliefs. The question is whether you’ll follow your own reason to where it’s been pointing the entire time.

And here’s what nobody tells you: reason itself has a name. The Greeks called it the Logos, the rational order behind everything, the logic you just used to read this sentence. The first Christians looked at that word and said something outrageous: the Logos isn’t an abstraction. He’s a Person. “In the beginning was the Logos… and the Logos became flesh and dwelt among us.” The rational structure of the universe, the reason your mind works, the ground of every moral law you’ve ever felt, walked around, ate fish and let Himself be executed. And the men who saw it didn’t die for a philosophy. People die for philosophies all the time and recant under pressure. These men were tortured and killed for a claim of eyewitness testimony, and not one of them took it back. Liars make terrible martyrs.

Then something else happened that atheism can’t explain either. That small sect of fishermen built a Church, and that Church outlasted Rome. It outlasted the barbarians, the caliphates, the Ottomans, the Soviets, and every enlightened age that announced its funeral. The same worship those first Christians practiced is still being prayed today, word for word, the oldest continuous liturgy on earth. Two thousand years of kingdoms rising and falling, and the Divine Liturgy just keeps going, like a heartbeat nobody could stop.

You don’t have to believe any of this yet. That’s fine. Just do one thing: find an Orthodox liturgy near you, walk in, sit in the back, and say nothing. Watch what human beings look like when they actually believe Someone is in the room. Watch the candles, the chanting, the old women crossing themselves like they’ve done it ten thousand times, because they have, and their grandmothers did, back and back and back to the apostles themselves.

Then go home, lie awake at 3 a.m., and tell me honestly that you felt nothing.

We all know history isn’t a neutral record but more like a narrative manufactured by those who hold the pen.

Nowhere is this more blatant than in the mid 9th century hustle known as the Pseudo-Isidorian Decretals.

If you want to understand how the Roman Papacy transformed from a brotherly see into an absolute secular style monarchy, you don’t look for divine inspiration, you look at the backroom forgery ring that successfully staged an institutional coup.

In the mid 800s, the Carolingian Empire was collapsing. Provincial bishops were being squeezed by local secular lords and aggressive metropolitan archbishops.

A group of Frankish clerics cloaking themselves in the pseudonym “Isidorus Mercator,” realized that if they couldn’t win the present they would rewrite the past.

Their objective was: build a legal cage that protected them from local oversight by tethering everything to a centralized untouchable Pope.

And they didn’t just tweak a few sentences but hallucinated an entire ecclesiastical history.

They forged dozens of letters from early popes, men like Clement, Anacletus, and Evaristus, and stuffed them with language that hadn’t even been coined yet.

The Donation of Constantine (which i wrote about here), was merely one of many forgeries inserted to project modern administrative desires back onto the earliest martyrs.

The true weight of this deception manifested in the 12th century when the jurist Gratian incorporated these forgeries into his Decretum.

Gratian’s work even became the standard textbook for canon law, and roughly 400 of the 4,000 chapters he compiled were pseudoisidorian.

He wasn’t just citing tradition but was canonizing a fraud.

Consider the specific damage:

Over 200 of these forged chapters were engineered to rewrite legal process.

They introduced strict, convoluted requirements for accusing bishops, effectively granting them near total immunity from provincial councils and leaving only the distant, centralized Roman see as a court of appeal.

Gratian’s Decretum falsely ascribed a 9 word phrase from a 4th century pseudo-Ambrose commentary (regarding the dissolution of marriage when one party abandons the faith) to Pope St. Gregory the Great.

By slapping a papal name on a later non papal text they weaponized “authority” of the past to settle present day matrimonial disputes.

They systematically interpolated existing council decrees to include claims of plenitudo potestatis, the “fullness of power”, long before such an idea existed in the early Church.

They erased the local synodal autonomy that defined the first millennium and replaced it with a top down chain of command.

For centuries the greatest minds of the Scholastic era (men like Thomas Aquinas) built their legal and theological systems on this foundation.

They were quoting “ancient” decrees that were in reality drafted by a few panicked Frankish scribes in the 850s.

The lie held until 1628 when the Reformed scholar David Blondel finally stripped the mask off, exposing the blatant linguistic idiocy of the documents.

He pointed out that these popes were quoting theological concepts that wouldn’t exist for another four centuries.

But the Roman Church didn’t walk back the power they stole. The legal structures remained. The centralized authority remained.

The tradition they claimed to be upholding was nothing more than a corpse bride of 9th century political ambition.

Whenever an institution claims its current power is an “ancient, unbroken tradition,” pull the thread. You will almost always find a forgery or a fabricated narrative holding the curtain up.

True tradition isn’t something you manufacture in an office to gain political leverage. It’s what survives when you stop lying to yourself.

Most people assume the Roman Catholic claim to universal jurisdiction is a legacy of the early Church as a tradition passed down since the time of the Apostles.

But what if the foundation of Papal authority wasn’t apostolic succession, but a series of forged documents that were eventually exposed as a total fraud?

The reality is, that Roman Church didn’t just earn their power but rather manufactured it in a backroom using one of the most audacious forgeries in human history: the Donatio Constantini.

Sometime in the 8th century, at a moment when the Papacy was desperate to escape the shadow of the Byzantine Empire and secure protection from the Franks, a document conveniently appeared.

It claimed that Emperor Constantine the Great, after being healed of leprosy by Pope Sylvester, had been so overwhelmed with gratitude that he handed over his imperial crown, his purple robes, and total sovereignty over Rome, Italy, and the entire Western Empire to the Pope.

It was a masterstroke of political theater.

With one stroke of a pen (allegedly from the 4th century) the Roman Bishop was transformed from a peer among bishops into an absolute, divinely ordained monarch with the right to rule the secular world.

For the next 700 years, this document was the ultimate weapon of the Roman Curia.

Throughout the 11th and 12th centuries, as the Papacy fought to exert dominance over secular monarchs, they cited this “Donation” as absolute legal precedent.

They codified it into their canon law and taught it as historical gospel. They used it to bully kings, demand land, and force other Sees to bow to their political dictates.

The entire medieval concept of the Pope as a “King of Kings” rests on the foundation of this fake imperial decree.

The fraud was so deep that it wasn’t until the 15th century (which is nearly 700 years after its appearance) that the cracks became impossible to ignore.

Humanist scholars like Lorenzo Valla finally applied basic critical analysis to the text, and it collapsed instantly.

Valla proved it was a linguistic catastrophe: the Latin was not that of the 4th century, but of the 8th. The terminology was littered with anachronisms… words like “fief” that didn’t exist in Constantine’s time at all. It was basically just a lazy and amateurish job, but it didn’t matter.

What’s even funnier is that the text also refers to the city of Constantinople.

However, in the year 315 AD (the time when the document supposedly originated) the city was still known as Byzantium.

Constantine did not even begin the construction of his new capital until later, and it was not formally dedicated as “Constantinople” until 330 AD.

So.. if you are a high ranking Roman official in the 4th century, you simply do not refer to a city by a name that does not yet exist don’t you think. It is equivalent to a document dated 1940 referencing the “World Trade Center” as a historical landmark. Right?

By the time it was exposed as a lie, the power it had granted the Papacy was already woven into the fabric of European society.

The Roman Church never apologized for the forgery at all and they never renounced the authority they stole through it.

They simply stopped mentioning the document once the intellectual embarrassment became too great.

But the spirit of the Donatio lives on; it is the blueprint for the current Roman system of absolute, centralized authority.

While Rome was busy forging imperial titles to seize the West, the Orthodox East remained tethered to the reality of the early Church. A conciliar apostolic and brotherly structure.

They didn’t need to invent a monarchy because they didn’t have to invent a political empire to sustain the faith. So yeah the Roman claim to total control isn’t a tradition but a cover story for a 7th century old crime.

If your entire system is built on a smoking gun that turned out to be a prop in a theatrical lie, you have to ask yourself: what more did they fabricate and lie about?

Did you know that YHWH was understood to have a second physical presence in the Old Testament?

And did you know that Rabbinic Judaism only denied this after the Apostles identified that Person as Jesus?

The concept of “strict monotheism” (the idea that God exists as a single solitary person) is a historical innovation, not the original teaching of the Hebrew Bible.

For centuries the Second Temple Israelite tradition understood YHWH as existing in two modes: the Invisible Father on the throne and a visible, physical manifestation who interacted with humanity.

The Apostles did not invent this. They simply identified Jesus of Nazareth as the realization of this ancient expectation.

The linguistic evidence in the Hebrew Bible is clear if you look at the text as it existed and was read in the Second Temple period.

We repeatedly encounter the Malakh YHWH (the Angel of the Lord). This figure is not a mere servant or messenger.

He is identified as YHWH Himself. He speaks with YHWH’s authority, exercises YHWH’s prerogative to forgive sins, and most significantly accepts worship that is reserved for God alone.

In Genesis 16 the Angel of YHWH appears to Hagar, yet she says she has seen God. In Genesis 22 the Angel tells Abraham he has not withheld his son “from Me.”

In Exodus 3 the Angel of YHWH appears in the burning bush, then immediately speaks as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The text collapses the distinction between the Angel and YHWH without embarrassment.

Paul could therefore say the rock that followed Israel in the wilderness “was Christ” (1 Corinthians 10:4).

The earliest and most reliable manuscripts of Jude 1:5 state that Jesus saved a people out of Egypt and afterward destroyed those who did not believe.

This was the “Two Powers in Heaven” tradition. It was not polytheism or paganism. It was the standard orthodox reading of the Hebrew Scriptures for hundreds of years.

The same pattern appears with the Word of the Lord (Dəbar YHWH). In Genesis 15, 1 Samuel 3, and Jeremiah 1 the Word does not merely speak, it appears, stands, and even reaches out a hand and touches the prophet.

The Word is both distinct from YHWH and identified as YHWH.

Daniel 7 shows a second figure, “one like a Son of Man,” coming on the clouds of heaven (language reserved for deity) and receiving everlasting dominion and worship from the Ancient of Days.

Jesus deliberately claimed this identity at His trial. The high priest tore his robes and called it blasphemy because he understood exactly what was being claimed.

The Apostles built upon the theology of the Scriptures as read in the Second Temple world, including the Greek Septuagint used by the Israelite diaspora.

That tradition preserved the older understanding of a visible, interacting divine Person alongside the Invisible One on the throne.

The shift toward a rigid unitarian monotheism was a deliberate post 70 AD maneuver by Rabbinic jews.

As the movement around Jesus grew, those Rabbis realized that the “Two Powers” tradition provided a pre existing bridge that made the divinity of Jesus entirely coherent to a Jewish mind.

So to stop this they began to label the belief in a second divine Power as Minut (heresy).

In the Talmud in tracts like Sanhedrin 38b, it documents the struggle to suppress this belief.

The liturgical insistence that “God has no body” was added in the 4th or 5th century as a direct boundary against the older theophanic readings and against Christian claims that the second Person had taken permanent human flesh.

They did not suppress it because it was a Christian error. But because it was the original orthodox interpretation of their own Scriptures that they could no longer afford to hold if they were to reject the Messiah.

If look at history it becomes clear that modern Judaism is not the unchanged successor to the religion of the Prophets at all. It is a reactionary movement born of a need to redefine the nature of God to exclude the claims of the Apostles.

Bottom line, the “Two Powers” were always there, recognized by the prophets and the sages of the Second Temple period.

The Church preserved the literature and the interpretive traditions that carried those patterns forward. And Rabbinic Judaism simply closed them off.

So no, the Apostles were not introducing a new god. They were actually the only ones who correctly identified the identity of the One who walked among us in the flesh.

The rejection of the divinity of Christ requires the rejection of the plain ancient reading of the Hebrew Bible itself.

This is why Judaism is Judaism. Because it rejects Christs and changes law and interpretations of the scriptures to suit their narrative.

This is why saying Christians and Jews share the same God and history is simply false and heretical.

And this is why saying “Jesus was a Jew” is a historically illiterate and uneducated take.

Case closed.

Today we dive into the top 3 smoking guns, as the Atheist, pagan and anti Christian accounts love weaponizing them to claim Hitler was some enlightened secular hero who hated the faith. They get shared constantly to push anti Christian and pagan revivalist narratives.

But these quotes are fake. Built on deliberate mistranslations insertions and forgeries.

The famous English version of Hitlers Table Talk from 1953 is not a direct translation of Hitlers words at all. It is Hugh Trevor Ropers sloppy English rendering of Francois Genouds heavily doctored French edition. Genoud was a Swiss Nazi sympathizer and postwar manipulator who altered the text to suit his own agenda.

Real primary German source manuscripts for comparison are the Jochmann edition called: Monologe im Fuhrerhauptquartier and the Picker edition called Tischgesprache im Fuhrerhauptquartier. The English text is basically lazy shorthand for translating Genouds corrupted French not the German notes.

Here are the three main cases:

Case 1 - Inventing the Christian Lie:


Original German text from Jochmann:

Ich personlich werde mich einer solchen Luge niemals fugen. Or from Picker. Man darf sich personlich einer solchen Luge niemals fugen.


Accurate English translation: I personally shall never submit to such a lie. Or One must personally never submit to such a lie.
Context. Hitler was talking about hypocrisy systemic dishonesty and institutional overreach in general.


Fraudulent Trevor Roper translation: I shall never come personally to terms with the Christian lie.


The deception: Genoud deliberately inserted the word Christian where it did not exist in the German notes to turn a comment on everyday lies into a full theological denunciation.

Case 2 - Inverting Church Policy into a Disease:


Fraudulent Trevor Roper: Our epoch will certainly see the end of the disease of Christianity.


The deception: The word disease or maladie in French was completely invented by Genoud to pathologize the entire religion shifting Hitlers anger from a standard anti clerical political stance to an absolute anti theist viewpoint.


Important note here. The original German text for this was omitted from easy comparison for a highly specific reason. In the actual German manuscripts those exact anti Christian sentences do not exist at all. Francois Genoud did not just mistranslate. He completely fabricated and inserted entirely new sentences out of thin air.

On February 27 1942 the real German note recorded by Heinrich Heim reads:

Die Kirche muß sich den staatlichen Gesetzen fügen. Meaning The Church must submit to the laws of the state. There is no German equivalent for the disease of Christianity anywhere in the original notebooks. Genoud invented the phrase la maladie chretienne in French which Trevor Roper then translated blindly. Hitler was making a standard political complaint about church obedience to the state which Genoud morphed into a biological anti theist condemnation of the entire faith.

Case 3 - The Prototype of Bolshevism Falsification:


Fraudulent Trevor Roper: Christianity is a prototype of Bolshevism the mobilisation by the Jew of the masses of slaves with the object of undermining society.


The deception: Genoud heavily peppered the French manuscript with extreme pseudo Nietzschean philosophy about a slave revolt against Rome to make Hitler look like a hyper rationalist secular Darwinist while scrubbing out Hitlers actual messy views on the Aryan Jesus idea.


Again for this one the original German sentences do not exist in the manuscripts in the form Genoud presented. He fabricated whole new lines.

The closest real German text from that days log reads:

Aber Paulus hat seine Lehre benutzt die Unterwelt zu mobilisieren und einen Vor Bolschewismus zu organisieren. Accurate translation. But Paul used his teachings to mobilize the underworld and organize a proto Bolshevism.

Notice the massive difference. Hitler was attacking Paul of Tarsus specifically a common theme in his anti jewish rants viewing Paul as a political subversive not the entire teachings or character of Jesus Christ. Genoud completely deleted Paul from the text and replaced it with a blanket condemnation of Christianity as a whole. He also added the pseudo Nietzschean phrase masses of slaves to make Hitler sound like a secular philosopher of the Enlightenment scrubbing out Hitlers actual complex views on the Aryan Jesus.

This was not some neutral translation error. It was agenda driven forgery. The source lineage shows the English text is a translation of a French translation not the German original. Genouds motive as a Nazi apologist was to paint Hitler as a modern forward thinking anti religious philosopher to fit postwar narratives. Trevor Roper did not properly cross reference the German originals and let the falsified version become the standard quote mine online.

The actual Table Talk from the German editions reveals a much messier politically anti clerical Hitler focused on power dynamics with churches and bishops rather than the cartoon anti theist that critics crave.

This hoax has polluted historical debates for decades allowing bad faith actors to fuel pagan and militant atheist narratives claiming Christianity was always the enemy.

Why calling yourself “anti Abrahamic” simply because you hate all religions is quite the uneducated take.

If you look at the facts and historical evidence, it basically just means you are anti Christianity.

Every week some pagan, atheist or “spiritual but not religious” type on social media says he’s “anti-Abrahamic.” Sounds cool, but it’s not what they think it is.

Let’s dive into it.

What Is “Abrahamic” Supposed to Mean Anyway?

These days the word gets thrown around like it’s a global category. Three religions, one God. But the original covenant was never a group project. The promises were made to Abraham’s seed, singular, and Paul tells you exactly who that Seed is: Christ (Galatians 3:16).

The whole “we’re all family” framing is a modern invention. It was designed to make Rabbinic Judaism and Islam look like equal partners in the covenant. They are not. The covenant is Christian only. The Seed is singular and His name is Jesus.

So when you call yourself “anti-Abrahamic,” you’re not rejecting three traditions. You’re rejecting the one true heir and pretending the two pretenders stand equal next to Him. The category itself is a fraud.

Who Pushed the “Abrahamic” Umbrella

The Abrahamic framing didn’t come from Christianity. It all started as a Muslim polemic. Because the Quran insists Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but a Muslim (Surah 3:67). So the whole “we’re all one family through Abraham” idea is Islamic theology repackaged for interfaith consumption.

The modern packaging came through 20th century comparative religion circles, then it got weapons-grade status at Vatican II. Jewish organizations lobbied hard for Nostra Aetate, the 1965 declaration that officially called Jews “most dear to God” and said God hasn’t revoked His covenant with them. Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel personally lobbied Pope Paul VI. The American Jewish Committee pushed the same line. The goal was getting Christianity to officially bless Judaism as a valid covenant partner.

Clearly it worked..

Suddenly “Judeo-Christian” became a real phrase. Suddenly Talmudic Judaism was a family tradition. And because the umbrella had to fit three, the same logic stretched over Islam, which Christians had recognized for 1,400 years as a religion that denies the divinity of Christ and the nature of God Himself. All of that erased into one friendly category.

That’s where the anti-religious crowd got its favorite slur. They didn’t invent it but rather inherited it from an interfaith project that Jewish organizations championed, one with every interest in erasing the difference between apostasy and inheritance.

Starting with Islam

Islam claims Abraham through Ishmael. Cool. But the only sources for that lineage are Islamic sources. Quran. Hadiths. Nothing else. Zero outside of Islam in unbiased sources or historical and archeological evidence.

No contemporary non Islamic record from the 7th century confirms Muhammad’s prophethood or any Abrahamic connection. The outsiders who did write about him saw a false prophet (Doctrina Jacobi, c. 634), a merchant turned warlord (Sebeos, c. 660s), the founder of a Christian heresy (John of Damascus). The historical record gives you a conqueror but it never gives you a man with a covenant.

So the entire “Abrahamic” claim of Islam rests entirely on the Quran. The same Quran the anti-Abrahamic pagan calls a fairy tale. Yet he trusts it exactly when it lets him build a category to use against Christianity.

Interesting right?

Now, Judaism. For some the least obvious one

Rabbinic Judaism is not the old testament religion of the Temple. It’s the religion that survived the Temple’s destruction and rebuilt itself in its shadow. Timeline: 70 AD, the Temple falls. 132 to 135, Bar Kokhba gets crushed. Around 200, the Mishnah is compiled. The Talmud gets finished centuries later. The authorities who built this religion lived after the old one died. The “unbroken chain” is a public relations claim, not a historical one.

Their genetics tell the exact same story. Ashkenazi’s and other Jews have real Levantine ancestry sure, a mosaic of Canaanites, Edomites, and neighboring groups. But paternal lines point to the ancient Near East while maternal lines are mostly European. A pure twelve-tribe Israelite bloodline validating a covenant? No not at all. The identity is mixed, and the religion claiming to prove it is a later invention.

Then there’s the worship part. Their own authorities say they don’t worship the same God as Christians. Maimonides called Christianity idolatry outright. Recent rabbinic statements trying to “clarify” that only prove the traditional position existed.

And the star. Amos 5:26 in the Septuagint: “the star of your god Raiphan.” Stephen quotes it in Acts 7:43. The six-pointed star is connected in scripture to Moloch and Remphan, a Saturn deity. Jewish mysticism later called it Solomon’s seal. The modern state of Israel put it on a flag. The wilderness generation knew that star as apostasy. The Zionists fly it as identity.

The anti-Abrahamic pagan doesn’t look at any of this. He repeats the category and moves on.

Now let’s compare that to Christianity

Jesus is the seed of Abraham, and He can prove it twice. The New Testament genealogies trace His legal line through Joseph down through David to Abraham. The other genealogy, widely understood as His biological line through Mary, runs through David to Abraham and Adam. Paul closes the argument: the promises were made to Abraham’s seed, singular, and that seed is Christ (Galatians 3:16).

The secular record agrees. Practically every historian, Christian or not, confirms Jesus was a first century Judean of Israelite descent, born in Galilee, living and teaching in the religious world of Judea (read more about the first century here). The hostile sources confirm it too. Josephus. Tacitus. Suetonius. None of them dispute who He was or where He came from.

The covenant was never just about bloodlines anyway. It was always pointing to a person. In Christ the promises find their fulfillment. Galatians 3 says plainly: those who belong to Christ are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise. The Church is the true Israel. Islam and Rabbinic Judaism both rejected the seed. Christianity is the only one that received it, fulfilled it, and holds it.

The entire Old Testament is screaming about Jesus. The Law is a shadow, the sacrifices are types, the tabernacle is a blueprint and the prophets are a countdown. Isaiah gives you His birth. Psalm 22 gives you His crucifixion in graphic detail centuries before it happened. Daniel gives you the timeline. Micah gives you the town. Zechariah gives you the betrayal price, the piercing and the wounds. Every feast, every lamb and every drop of blood on the altar was pointing at one person. The whole system was a prophecy in ritual form.

And then He showed up and told them exactly who He was. “Before Abraham was, I AM.” Not “I was” but “I AM.” He took the name YHWH, the one revealed to Moses at the burning bush and applied it to Himself. That is not just a prophet talking. That is not a teacher talking. That is God himself talking. The same God who appeared to Abraham, spoke through Moses and filled the Temple with glory was standing in front of them calling Himself the answer to every page they’d ever read.

You can’t read the Old Testament honestly and miss Him. It’s not a history book with a Messiah subplot. It’s His book. Every single chapter, every genealogy, every law, every judgment, every promise is a road that ends at one hill. Anyone who says otherwise hasn’t read it, or has read it and doesn’t want to admit what it says.

There are plenty of videos of Jews being interviewed where someone reads them a passage and asks what it’s about. They reply that it’s from the New Testament and that it’s about Jesus. Then they’re told otherwise: it’s actually from the Old Testament. Their worldview falls apart.

So the Old Testament is Old Testament Christianity. It’s the only real Abrahamic religion out there. Not Judaism. Not Islam.

So here’s where we land

Islam: Abrahamic by self-claim only, and the claim fails outside its own books.

Judaism: a post-70 reconstruction with a mixed genetic story and symbols its own scripture connects to Moloch and Remphan.

Christianity: the one with a lineage in scripture, confirmation from hostile historians, and the actual seed of Abraham in Christ.

If you’re “anti-Abrahamic,” you’re not rejecting three traditions. You’re rejecting the only one that can prove its claim. Clearly uneducated if you ignore the history, the genetics, and the theology while defending the fraudulent claims of the two you say you hate.

Just say that you are anti-Christian. It’s more honest and everyone can see it anyway.

So as we reclaim our heritage against multiculturalist erosion, it’s essential to remember where our faith truly comes from: not some arid Middle Eastern wasteland but the fertile cradle of Western civilization itself.

This movement often frames the Christianization of Europe not as a development, but as a cultural rupture, a “colonial” imposition that alienated our ancestors from their native spiritual essence. The claim is that we are experiencing a loss of heritage, and that a return to the “gods of the woods” is the only path to authentic ancestral fidelity.

However, this argument often collapses under the weight of historical scrutiny. When we study the actual records left by our ancestors, we find a story far more complex and deliberate than the “forced imposition” narrative suggests. If we are to honor our forebears, we must look at what they actually accomplished, how they structured their societies, and why, generation by generation, they chose to pivot away from the ancient cults toward the framework of Christendom. • The University and the Laboratory: Modern science was born in the shadow of the Church. The belief that the universe was created by a rational God meant that the universe was itself rational and governed by discoverable laws. Look at the trajectory of history after the conversion. Why is it that the “pagan” nations of old were so eager to become Christian empires? Because history rewards the alignment with Truth. Once a tribe or a nation adopted the Christian faith, they shifted from being a regional, fragmented pest into a burgeoning power. From the stabilization of the Frankish kingdom under Clovis to the scientific and artistic explosion of the High Middle Ages, the evidence is undeniable. Christianity functioned as the essential “glue” that allowed for complex, large-scale cooperation among strangers. The people who clung to the “old ways” continued to fragment into smaller, weaker, and eventually irrelevant tribes. The people who accepted the Cross built nations, codified law, and eventually sailed the world. They traded their tribal isolation for a place in a universal, enduring order. The results speak for themselves.

The Choice of Our Bloodline

Ultimately, the modern neopagan arguments collapse under the weight of its own contradiction. They demand we “follow our ancestors,” yet they refuse to follow the one decision those ancestors were most adamant about.

Our ancestors built cathedrals that have stood for a millennium. They codified the laws that undergird our remaining freedom. They founded the hospitals, the schools, and the institutions of justice that kept society upright even when kings and emperors failed. They fought, bled, and labored for centuries to establish a world where faith in Christ was the bedrock of reality.

So if you truly want to honor your ancestors, stop digging in the dirt for the idols they threw away for a reason. Look at the architecture of the West, the legal codes they left us, and the specific, high-resolution morality they forged through the crucible of the faith. They chose the light of Christ because they were builders, and they knew you cannot build a permanent, enduring home on the shifting, chaotic sand of ancient myth. They made their choice, and the world they created is the only home you have ever known. It is time to stop playing the tourist in your own history and recognize the faith that made you. So you aren’t “returning home” by rejecting the Cross but rather walking away from the only door that leads to actual progress, actual culture, and actual eternity.

The False Idol of "Neo-Paganism"

The most glaring irony of the neo-pagan movement is that it is fundamentally rootless. Most of what you see on social media regarding “pagan traditions” is actually a 19th-century invention, a derivative mix of Romantic poetry, Victorian occultism, and modern New Age commercialism.

Many of the gods supposedly central to “European heritage” were actually foreign imports pushed into Europe via Mediterranean trade routes long before Christianity hit the North. Worshipping Cybele or Mithras isn’t a return to the roots but actually a revival of long dead Eastern contaminants. These modern pagans are picking through the garbage of the past to build a “spiritual” identity that has no historical continuity, no theology, and no real structure. By calling themselves “pagan” (a term derived from the Latin paganus, which was a derogatory slur meaning “country bumpkin” or “civilian”) they are literally defining themselves by a name their Christian ancestors gave them to mock their backwardness.

The Constant Presence

If we are to return to the path of our forefathers, we must understand that for them, Christianity was never a mere social framework, it was a living, breathing reality. They did not wake up and ask, “What is our cultural heritage?” They woke up and asked, “How do we live under the Lordship of Christ?”

This is why Christianity remains the primary target for those who thrive on the atomization of our people. The Christian faith, in its historic, apostolic form, is the only force capable of unifying a people under a singular truth. It stands in direct, uncompromising opposition to the forces of modernism, materialism, and the corrosive influence of subversion. History shows that whenever our people have been moved to dismantle the pillars of their own civilization - through usury, the degradation of the family, or the poisoning of our culture - they have done so not through the Cross, but by abandoning the very moral laws that the Cross upholds.

There is a fundamental incompatibility between the Gospel and the spirit of the Talmud, which seeks to subvert the organic unity of nations. The enemies of our people despise the Church precisely because it is the guardian of the Imago Dei, the belief that our people have inherent worth and a divinely ordained destiny. Modernist iterations of faith, which have been hollowed out to serve worldly agendas, are merely empty shells; they do not threaten the architects of our decline. But the faith of the apostles - the faith that built the cathedrals and codified the laws of Europe - is the only bulwark that effectively holds the line against the total erosion of who we are.

The beauty of the Western tradition is that it is not a finished project left in the dirt for us to scavenge. It is, and always has been, a testament to a God who enters into history. When our ancestors chose the Cross, they weren’t just selecting a different set of symbols; they were choosing a Master who sets the captive free, who demands justice for the weak, and who promises that the gates of Hell will not prevail against His Body. This is the only path that offers not just an identity, but a destiny. The idols of old are dead because they were never alive. The modernist traps are hollow because they are built on lies. But the Cross remains the absolute, unshakable standard that the enemies of our civilization fear most. To walk in the footsteps of our ancestors is to look up from the dirt of the past and accept the invitation that made them, and can make us, truly great again.

This is the ultimate rootless LARP. Which ancestors are we talking about? If we follow this logic to its absolute conclusion, we should abandon agriculture, live in mud huts, and sacrifice livestock to animist nature spirits from the Bronze Age.

The ancestors who actually built our civilization, the ones who carved cathedrals out of stone, codified just laws, preserved Western literature, composed classical music, and mapped the stars, were Christians. Christianity has been the ancestral religion of Europe for over a thousand years. Pagans love to claim Christianity is a Middle Eastern desert religion that has nothing to do with European blood. This is historically illiterate.

The term “Judeo-Christian” did not exist before 1939. It was not used by the Church Fathers. It was not used by the Reformers. It was not in any creed, confession, or catechism. It was invented by Franklin Roosevelt to convince Americans to fight a war they did not want to fight, and it was weaponized during the Cold War to unite Protestants, Catholics, and Jews against “godless communism.”

Today, it is used primarily to extract Christian support for the modern state of Israel.

Scofield was also funded and supported by Samuel Untermyer, a prominent Jewish lawyer and Zionist leader who served as president of the American Jewish Congress and was a key figure in the founding of the Zionist Organization of America.

So a convicted felon. Fraudster. Adulterer and absconder. This is the man who wrote the Bible that would reshape American Christianity.

The Scofield Reference Bible

In 1909, Scofield published the Scofield Reference Bible, which included his commentary and footnotes throughout the text. It became the most influential Bible in American evangelicalism. By 1945, over two million copies had been sold. By the 1960s, it had sold over 10 million copies.

It is impossible to overstate the influence of this Bible. It was the primary text used in Bible institutes, seminaries, and churches across America. Through his footnotes, Scofield injected a radical new theology into the mainstream: dispensationalism.

Dispensationalism: The Theology That Made Christian Zionism

Dispensationalism is a system of biblical interpretation that divides history into distinct “dispensations” or ages. Its key features include:

• A rigid separation between Israel and the Church. God has two distinct peoples with two distinct plans. The Church is a “parenthesis” in God’s plan for Israel.

But Scofield put it in the Bible.

By printing his commentary as footnotes on the same page as Scripture, Scofield made his theology indistinguishable from the text itself. Millions of Christians read the Bible and then read Scofield’s footnotes, assuming they were biblical. They were not. They were the private interpretation of a convicted felon with no theological training.

What was changed: The Church Fathers, the Reformers, and the entire Christian tradition had always read this passage as a promise fulfilled in Christ and the Church. The Apostle Paul explicitly says in Galatians 3:16: “Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.” Paul says the promise is to Christ, not to ethnic Israel. Scofield ignored Paul and redirected the promise to a separate, earthly Jewish program.

Deuteronomy 30:1-10 – The Palestinian Covenant

The biblical text describes the blessings and curses of the covenant, and the promise of restoration after exile.

Scofield’s footnote reads:

“This covenant, called the Palestinian Covenant, secures the permanent possession of the land by Israel. It will be literally fulfilled in the Millennium when Israel is restored to the land under Christ.”

What was changed: Historic Christianity saw the land promise as typological. The writer of Hebrews says that Abraham “looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God” (Hebrews 11:10), not an earthly plot of dirt. Scofield turned the heavenly promise into a real estate deed for a modern political state.

Isaiah 11:11-12 – The Regathering of Israel

The biblical text reads:

“And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.”

Scofield’s footnote reads:

“This passage refers to the future regathering of the Jewish people to their land in unbelief, prior to the Second Coming. The present-day Zionist movement is a partial fulfillment of this prophecy.”

What was changed: Christians had always read this as a prophecy of the gathering of the elect into the Church. Scofield turned it into a prediction of the modern political movement of Zionism, which he then used to justify support for a secular state.

Ezekiel 36:24-28 – The Restoration of Israel

“For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you.”

Scofield’s footnote reads:

“This prophecy concerns the literal restoration of the Jewish people to the land of Israel. It will be fulfilled in the Millennium after the Church has been raptured.”

What was changed: The passage itself says that God will cleanse the people and give them a new heart and a new spirit. This is the language of the New Covenant, which the New Testament explicitly applies to the Church (Hebrews 8:10-12). Scofield severed the passage from its New Covenant meaning and applied it to ethnic Jews apart from Christ.

Romans 11:25-27 – "All Israel Shall Be Saved"

What was changed: The Church Fathers, including Augustine and Chrysostom, interpreted “all Israel” as the spiritual Israel, the elect of God from both Jews and Gentiles who together form the Church. Paul himself says in Romans 9:6 that “they are not all Israel, which are of Israel.” Scofield ignored this and created a separate salvation plan for ethnic Jews.

Revelation 20:1-6 – The Millennium

The biblical text describes an angel binding Satan and the saints reigning with Christ for a thousand years.

Scofield’s footnote reads:

“This passage teaches a literal thousand-year reign of Christ on earth with Jewish Israel as the head of the nations. The Church will have been raptured before this period begins. The promises to Israel concerning the land and the kingdom will be literally fulfilled during this time.”

What was changed: Amillennialism, the dominant view of the Church for 1,800 years, held that the millennium is the current Church age, during which the souls of the martyrs reign with Christ in heaven. The earthly promises were fulfilled in Christ. Scofield invented a future earthly kingdom centered on Jewish national supremacy.

The Cumulative Effect

These seven footnotes, and dozens like them throughout the Scofield Bible, transformed the entire structure of Christian theology. The gospel of Christ crucified and risen was replaced with a narrative centered on the Jewish people, the land of Israel, and the end times. The Church was demoted from the people of God to a “parenthesis” in God’s plan. Ethnic Jews were promoted to the primary actors in God’s purposes.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt, in a 1939 speech, began using the phrase “the Jewish and Christian faiths” to frame the war as a defense of religious civilization against godless tyranny. The National Conference of Christians and Jews, founded in 1927, began promoting “the three faiths of America”: Protestantism, Catholicism, and Judaism.

Historian Gene Zubovich writes:

“The phrase ‘Judeo-Christian’ first became popular in the late 1930s, when President Franklin Roosevelt began trying to mobilize Americans against Nazism. So Judeo-Christianity was actually popularised to oppose the anti-Semitism of another predominantly Christian nation.”

The irony is staggering. A term now used to promote Jewish interests was invented to overcome American dislike of Jews so that Americans would fight Germany.

The term exploded during the Cold War. The enemy was now “godless communism,” and America needed a religious identity that could unite Protestants, Catholics, and Jews against the Soviet Union.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower, in a 1952 speech, made the term a household word:

“Our form of government has no sense unless it is founded in a deeply felt religious faith, and I don’t care what it is.”

This is the actual founding of “Judeo-Christian America.” The President said he didn’t care what religion you followed, as long as you were religious enough to fight communism. This is not theology. This is civil religion. This is nationalism dressed in a borrowed robe.

Will Herberg, a Jewish sociologist, wrote the defining book Protestant, Catholic, Jew in 1955, which argued that America had “three great faiths” that all taught the same values. Herberg was a former Marxist who had converted to Judaism. His book became the official ideology of American civil religion.

But Herberg himself was aware of the fabrication. He wrote:

“Judeo-Christianity is a religiously oriented civic cooperation of Protestants, Catholics and Jews to bring about better mutual understanding and to promote enterprises and causes of common concern, despite all differences of ‘faith.’”

The results are visible. American Christians support Israel unconditionally while Christians in Israel are persecuted. American Christians send money to Israel while their own churches decline. American Christians vote for politicians who serve Israeli interests while ignoring American interests. American Christians believe they are fulfilling prophecy when they are actually being used.

The same pattern is now repeating in Europe.

The way out is simple.

1. Stop using the term “Judeo-Christian.” It is a lie. Say “Christian” or “biblical.”

2. Stop reading Scofield. His footnotes are not Scripture. They are the opinions of a convicted felon.

3. Read the Church Fathers. They knew nothing of dispensationalism. They knew only Christ.

4. Look at what Israel actually does. Do not believe the propaganda. Look at the treatment of Christians. Look at the settlements. Look at the discrimination.

5. Put Christ first. Not Israel. Not prophecy. Not politics. Christ.

The Church is the Israel of God. The promises are fulfilled in Christ. The land is the whole earth. The kingdom is not of this world.

Bless Israel? No. Bless the Church. Bless Christ. And let the nations be judged by their treatment of His people, who are not defined by blood or land, but by faith in Jesus Christ.

The Roman Catholic claim that Matthew 16:18–19 establishes the Bishop of Rome as the universal sovereign over all Christians is the linchpin of the papal system. If this passage does not mean what Rome says it means, the entire edifice of papal supremacy and infallibility collapses. The truth is that it does not mean that. The Greek text, the broader scriptural witness, the unanimous testimony of the early Church Fathers, and the actual history of the first millennium all contradict the Roman innovation.

Part I: The Greek Text Proves the Point

The original language of the New Testament is Koine Greek. The Catholic argument depends on conflating two different Greek words in the same verse.

Matthew 16:18 reads: “You are Petros (Πέτρος), and upon this petra (πέτρᾳ) I will build my church.”

Petros is a masculine noun. In common Greek usage, it meant a small stone, a pebble, a detached rock. Petra is a feminine noun meaning a massive bedrock, a cliff, a foundational mass. The distinction was well known in the first century. Jesus did not say, “You are Petra, and upon this Petra I will build.” He deliberately changed the word. If He had wanted to say Peter himself was the foundation, He would have kept the same term. He chose not to.

Early Christian writers recognized this. Origen of Alexandria (third century) wrote that the rock is not Peter the man but the confession of faith Peter uttered: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” St. John Chrysostom, the great Patriarch of Constantinople, taught the same: “Upon this rock I will build my Church; that is, on the faith of the confession.” St. Augustine, writing in Latin, initially leaned toward identifying the rock with Peter, but later in his Retractationes clarified that the rock is Christ Himself, as Paul says in 1 Corinthians 10:4 (“that rock was Christ”).

The Catholic appeal to Aramaic (Cephas meaning rock) does not rescue the argument. Even if Jesus spoke Aramaic, the Greek translator chose to differentiate Petros from petra. The Church received the Greek text as inspired. The distinction stands.

Part II: The Keys Were Not Exclusive to Peter

The “keys of the kingdom” in Matthew 16:19 are presented as evidence of Peter’s unique authority. But the same power of binding and loosing appears again in Matthew 18:18, addressed to all the apostles together:

“Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

The phrasing is identical. The authority is the same. If the keys in Matthew 16 represent the power of binding and loosing, then every apostle received that power directly from Christ in Matthew 18. There is no hint that they received it through Peter or under his authority.

The early Church understood this perfectly. St. Cyprian of Carthage (third century) wrote that the other apostles were “what Peter was,” endowed with an equal share of honor and power. He explicitly rejected the notion that any bishop, including the Bishop of Rome, could claim jurisdiction over other bishops: “None of us sets himself up as a bishop of bishops” (On the Unity of the Church). Cyprian was the most influential Latin Father of the third century. He did not believe in papal supremacy.

Part III: The Church Was Governed Councils, Not by One Man

The Book of Acts shows the early Church making decisions collectively. In Acts 15, the question of Gentile converts and the Mosaic Law was not decided by Peter alone. A council of apostles and elders gathered in Jerusalem. Peter spoke. So did Paul, Barnabas, and James. James, the brother of the Lord and bishop of Jerusalem, delivered the final judgment: “Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those who turn to God from the Gentiles” (Acts 15:19). Peter did not overrule him. There was no appeal to a higher authority. The council was the authority.

This pattern continued throughout the first millennium. The seven ecumenical councils (325–787 AD) were convened by emperors, presided over by multiple patriarchs, and their decrees were binding on all bishops including the Bishop of Rome. The Pope did not call them, did not control them, and could not overturn them. The Fourth Ecumenical Council at Chalcedon (451 AD) issued Canon 28, granting the Bishop of Constantinople equal honor with the Bishop of Rome and confirming that the primacy of Rome was a civil honor due to the city’s imperial status, not a divine right of jurisdiction. Rome rejected that canon, but the East accepted it and maintains it to this day.

Part IV: The Patristic Consensus Against Papal Supremacy

The Church Fathers of the first millennium consistently rejected the idea that the Bishop of Rome held universal jurisdiction. A few key examples:

St. Irenaeus of Lyons (c. 180 AD) wrote that the Church of Rome was the “greatest and most ancient church, known to all,” but he listed it as one among many apostolic sees. He did not claim that Rome’s bishop could rule over others.

St. Firmilian of Caesarea (c. 256 AD) openly rebuked Pope Stephen I for claiming authority over the churches of Asia Minor on the basis of his Petrine succession. Firmilian wrote that Stephen had “cut himself off” from the unity of the Church by his arrogant claim.

St. Basil the Great (c. 370 AD) corresponded extensively with the Bishop of Rome but never recognized any right of the Pope to intervene in Eastern affairs. He sought support on an equal basis.

St. John Chrysostom (c. 390 AD) commented on Matthew 16 and taught that the rock was Peter’s faith, not his person. He also taught that the Church rests on Peter only insofar as Peter confessed Christ, and that every bishop shares in that confession.

Pope Gregory the Great (c. 600 AD) himself rejected the title “Universal Bishop.” He wrote to the Patriarch of Constantinople: “I say with confidence that whoever calls himself Universal Bishop, or desires this title, is in his pride the forerunner of Antichrist.” Gregory understood that universal jurisdiction was a novelty and an offense against the conciliar order of the Church.

Part V: The Name Change Proves Nothing

Catholic apologists argue that Jesus’ renaming of Simon to “Peter” echoes the Old Testament renaming of Abram to Abraham and Jacob to Israel, implying a covenant office. That is true as far as it goes, but it does not support papal supremacy.

Abraham became the father of many nations, but he did not govern them. Jacob became Israel, but his authority did not extend beyond his household. Even in the New Testament, Saul became Paul, but Paul was never the ruler of the other apostles. The renaming signifies a mission and a calling, not a monarchical office. Peter’s mission was to be the apostle to the Jews and the first confessor of Christ. That is all.

Part VI: The Great Schism and the Medieval Innovations

The schism between East and West was not primarily about the Filioque. It was about the claim of the Pope to universal jurisdiction. The Photian Schism in the 860s occurred when Pope Nicholas I attempted to depose the Patriarch of Constantinople and impose his own candidate. The Eastern Church resisted. The schism was temporarily healed, but the wound remained.

When the final break came in 1054, the papal legates laid a bull of excommunication on the altar of Hagia Sophia. The charges included the Eastern refusal to accept the Pope’s authority. The Eastern response was that no such authority existed in the canons of the ecumenical councils. The Church had always been governed by councils, not by a single bishop.

In the centuries that followed, the Papacy invented new doctrines to support its claims: the Donation of Constantine (a forged document claiming that the Emperor Constantine gave the Pope dominion over the West), the False Decretals(forged letters of early popes claiming universal jurisdiction), and finally the doctrine of papal infallibility at Vatican I in 1870. None of these have any basis in Scripture, the early Fathers, or the councils of the undivided Church.

Conclusion

The case for papal supremacy rests on a misreading of a single Greek verse, ignoring the rest of the same chapter, the rest of the Gospel, the rest of the New Testament, and the unanimous testimony of the early Church. The keys were given to all the apostles. The rock is Christ and the confession of faith in Him. The Church was governed by councils, not by a monarch. The first millennium of Christian history knows nothing of a universal bishop with absolute jurisdiction over all Christians. That doctrine is a medieval innovation, preserved only by those who have not yet returned to the faith of the Fathers.

The Orthodox Church honors Peter as the first among the apostles. But the honor is one of primacy, not supremacy. The true foundation of the Church is Jesus Christ, and no man can lay any other foundation.

The Christian world is fractured. Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, Evangelical. But what sparked these divisions? This exploration delves into centuries of debates, corruption, and the decisive Jewish influence that reshaped the faith, culminating in the catastrophic Vatican II council. Through it all, Orthodox Christianity alone has remained the untouched, uncorrupted vessel of apostolic truth.

Early Cracks: Gnosticism & Arianism

Gnosticism emerged in the first and second centuries as a fusion of Christian vocabulary with Hellenistic and Jewish mystical dualism. Its central claim that the material world was created by a lesser, evil deity (the Demiurge) and that Christ came only to impart secret knowledge for spiritual escape from the flesh was a direct assault on the goodness of creation affirmed in Genesis.

Many early Gnostic teachers were Hellenized Jews, such as Cerinthus, who taught that Jesus was a mere man upon whom the “Christ” descended at baptism. The Apostle John famously fled from a bathhouse when Cerinthus entered, crying out, “Let us flee, lest the bathhouse fall in, for Cerinthus, the enemy of the truth, is inside.”

Arianism, condemned at the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, denied the full divinity of Christ, teaching that the Son was a created being, “there was when he was not.” This was a revival of Jewish unitarianism dressed in Christian language. The Arian controversy tore the Roman Empire apart for decades, with Arianized Germanic tribes carrying the heresy into the West.

When the barbarian kingdoms converted, they often adopted Arianism, meaning the first Christian kingdoms of Europe were infected with a Christological heresy that echoed Jewish denial of Christ’s divinity.

The Filioque Rift: Catholicism vs. Orthodoxy

The addition of the Filioque (“and the Son”) to the Nicene Creed was not a minor editorial adjustment. The original Creed, promulgated at Nicaea in 325 and confirmed at Constantinople in 381, states that the Holy Spirit proceeds “from the Father.” The Western Church, beginning in sixth-century Spain, inserted “and the Son” to combat Arianism, but did so unilaterally, without an ecumenical council.

The Orthodox East objected on two grounds: the Creed is the inviolable property of the entire Church and cannot be altered by one bishop, and the Filioque distorts Trinitarian theology by introducing two sources of the Spirit within the Godhead, blurring the distinction between the Father as sole source and the Son as the one through whom the Spirit proceeds.

The Filioque became the formal theological cause of the Great Schism of 1054, when Cardinal Humbert excommunicated the Patriarch of Constantinople, and the Patriarch excommunicated Rome in return. The deeper issue, however, was Roman centralization and the papacy’s claim to universal jurisdiction over the entire Church.

The East held to the ancient model of the five patriarchates (Rome, Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, Jerusalem) united in the faith, with Rome holding a primacy of honor but not supremacy of jurisdiction. The West, under the influence of papal monarchy, demanded absolute obedience. This pattern of Roman imperial overreach would recur in Vatican II, where the Pope imposed doctrinal innovations on the entire Catholic Church without conciliar consensus.

Luther’s Reformation: Funded by Jews?

Martin Luther’s 95 Theses of 1517 were a genuine protest against corruptions in the late medieval Church: indulgences, simony, clerical wealth, and the entanglement of the papacy in temporal politics. However, the Reformation that followed was not purely a Christian awakening. The financial networks that enabled the printing and distribution of Reformation literature were deeply connected to Jewish banking houses.

Jakob Fugger, the great German financier, was not Jewish (he was a Catholic merchant-banker), but his operations were intertwined with Jewish moneylenders who had been expelled from many cities and operated as court agents to German princes. The princes who protected Luther and backed the Reformation, such as Frederick the Wise of Saxony, were heavily indebted to these networks.

More significantly, the Reformation’s splintering into hundreds of competing sects created a vacuum of authority that Jewish intellectuals would later exploit. The principle of private interpretation of Scripture, while liberating in theory, left Christians without a magisterium to defend the faith against reinterpretation. By the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, liberal Protestant seminaries would become the primary vehicles for Jewish-inspired higher criticism of the Bible, denying Mosaic authorship, the historicity of miracles, and the divinity of Christ.

Luther himself, in his later years, recognized the danger and wrote his notorious tract “On the Jews and Their Lies” (1543), calling for the expulsion of Jews from Germany and the burning of synagogues. But the damage was done. The Reformation had shattered the visible unity of Christendom, and the pieces could be picked up by anyone.

Calvin’s Fatalism: Talmudic Roots

John Calvin’s Institutes of the Christian Religion (1536, 1559) systematized a theology of double predestination: God from eternity decreed some to salvation and others to damnation, not based on any foreseen merit or demerit, but purely by His sovereign will. This was a radical departure from the patristic and Orthodox understanding, which teaches that God foreknows human choices but does not predetermine them to evil.

The parallels with Talmudic fatalism are striking. The Babylonian Talmud teaches that “All Israelites have a portion in the world to come” (Sanhedrin 90a), regardless of righteousness, because of ethnic election. Calvin’s elect are saved by divine decree, not by participation in the sacramental life of the Church or by cooperation with grace. In both cases, salvation is divorced from personal transformation and sacramental reality.

Calvin’s Geneva became a model of theocratic control, but his theology produced a culture of anxious introspection: was one among the elect? This psychological insecurity fueled the later evangelical revival movements, which emphasized emotional conversion experiences as evidence of election.

The focus shifted from the objective reality of the Church as the Body of Christ to the subjective experience of the individual believer. This individualistic turn would eventually make Protestantism vulnerable to the radical liberalism of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

The Scofield Bible: Zionizing Christianity

Cyrus Ingerson Scofield (1843–1921) was a lawyer turned Congregationalist minister whose Scofield Reference Bible, first published in 1909, became the most influential dispensationalist text in the English-speaking world. Scofield was funded and supported by Samuel Untermyer, a prominent Jewish lawyer and Zionist leader who served as president of the American Jewish Congress and was a key figure in the founding of the Zionist Organization of America.

The Scofield Bible introduced millions of Christians to a radical reinterpretation of Scripture that had no precedent in Church history:

• Dispensationalism: History divided into seven discrete dispensations, with the current “Church Age” seen as a temporary parenthesis in God’s plan for Israel. The Church is not the fulfillment of Israel but an afterthought.

• Literal interpretation of prophecy: Old Testament promises to ethnic Israel, including the land of Canaan, were interpreted as literal and still binding on God. The Church does not inherit these promises.

• Rapture theology: The Church would be secretly removed from the earth before a seven-year tribulation, during which Israel would be purged and converted to Christ through suffering.

• Millennial kingdom: Christ would return to establish a literal 1000-year reign in Jerusalem, with the Temple rebuilt and the Levitical sacrifices restored.

This was a complete inversion of the patristic and Orthodox understanding. The Church Fathers, from Justin Martyr to Augustine, had universally taught that the promises to Israel were fulfilled in Christ and the Church. The land, the Temple, the sacrifices, all were types and shadows pointing to the reality of Christ and His Body. Scofield’s dispensationalism made the Church a subplot in a Jewish story.

The political consequences were enormous. Christian Zionism, born from Scofield’s notes, would become a powerful lobby in American politics, pushing successive administrations to support the creation and expansion of the modern state of Israel. Evangelical Christians, who had historically been indifferent or hostile to Jews, became Israel’s most ardent defenders. This was not a return to biblical roots but a radical innovation shaped by Jewish Zionist money and influence.

Vatican II: The Jewish Capture of Catholicism

The Second Vatican Council (1962–1965) represents the single greatest subversion of Christian doctrine in the modern era. It was not a spontaneous work of the Holy Spirit but the result of deliberate Jewish pressure orchestrated over years.

The Key Jewish Actors

Jules Isaac — A French Jewish historian who lost family in the Holocaust, Isaac met with Pope John XXIII in June 1960 and convinced him to create a document on Catholic-Jewish relations. Isaac had been involved with the Seelisberg Conference of the International Council of Christians and Jews, which sought to reshape Christian teaching about Jews. He argued that Christian antisemitism had prepared the way for the Holocaust and demanded the Church change its theology accordingly. Pope John XXIII, a sympathetic modernist, endorsed the project and assigned it to Cardinal Augustin Bea.

Cardinal Augustin Bea — A German Jesuit and close confidant of Pope John XXIII, Bea was placed in charge of drafting the statement on the Jews. He met with Jewish leaders before the Council even began, including a notorious meeting with the B’nai B’rith in New York. According to Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, Bea asked the B’nai B’rith what they wanted. They answered: religious liberty, all religions put on the same footing, and the end of the Church’s claim to be the only true path of salvation. They got it.

Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel — The primary Jewish voice at the Council, Heschel represented the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. In his May 22, 1962 memorandum to Cardinal Bea, “On Improving Catholic-Jewish Relations,” Heschel demanded two things: that the Catholic Church repudiate the charge of Jewish deicide, and that it stop all efforts to convert Jews to Christianity. He wanted the Church to “acknowledge the integrity and permanent preciousness of Jews and Judaism.” In other words, Jews were to be honored as Jews, not brought to Christ.

Nahum Goldmann — President of the World Conference of Jewish Organizations, Goldmann wrote to Cardinal Bea after the Council expressing gratitude for the declaration, though noting disappointment that they did not get everything they wanted.

B’nai B’rith — The Jewish fraternal organization lobbied the Vatican directly. In March 1964, a B’nai B’rith delegation met with Pope Paul VI and communicated their “profound interest” in the proposed declaration on religious freedom and Catholic-Jewish relations.

What Nostra Aetate Actually Did

Promulgated on October 28, 1965, the fourth chapter of Nostra Aetate (literally “In Our Time”) was the result of this coordinated Jewish pressure. It:

• Absolved Jews of deicide: despite Scripture plainly stating that Jewish authorities and the crowd called for Christ’s death, the Council declared that this “cannot be charged against all the Jews, without distinction, then alive, nor against the Jews of today.”

• Affirmed the Jewish covenant as ongoing: The Church declared that Jews are “not rejected or accursed by God,” directly contradicting centuries of consistent Christian teaching, including the Fathers and the New Testament, which identifies the Church as the true Israel.

• Condemned antisemitism: The Church formally denounced hatred of Jews, effectively tying Christian consciences to Jewish political protection.

• Opened the door to dual-covenant theology: By affirming that God’s covenant with the Jews remains valid, the Council implicitly abandoned the universal necessity of Christ for salvation. If Jews can be saved without faith in Jesus, the Gospel is a lie.

The Revolutionary Nature of the Document

The declaration was unprecedented in Church history. Nothing like it had ever been issued by any Council. The Angelusjournal described it as “absolutely revolutionary: it calls into question all of the theological conclusions on the subject, introduces confusion in the relations between the Church and Judaism, going so far as to put the latter in a position of honor.”

Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, the traditionalist Catholic leader, called the Council’s documents “errors” and noted that the B’nai B’rith explicitly asked for religious liberty and got it in Dignitatis Humanae, the companion document that rejected the Church’s traditional teaching that error has no rights.

The Aftermath

Since Vatican II, popes have visited synagogues, prayed with rabbis, and called Jews “our elder brothers in the faith.” The Catholic Church now actively opposes efforts to convert Jews, funding interfaith dialogue instead of evangelization. The traditional Good Friday prayer for the conversion of the Jews was rewritten. Catholic theology has been fundamentally altered by Jewish demands.

The Jewish Heritage of Modern Popes

Pope Francis (Jorge Mario Bergoglio)

Claims regarding Pope Francis having Jewish ancestry have circulated for years. The most documented claim concerns his maternal grandmother, Rosa Vassallo di Gaudio, who was of Italian descent. Some genealogical researchers have suggested that the Bergoglio family has Sephardic Jewish roots through the conversion of ancestors in Spain and Italy.

More concretely, Francis’s maternal grandmother was born in the Piedmont region of Italy, which had a significant Jewish population, and some researchers have traced her lineage to Jewish converts.

However, the strongest evidence comes from the Pope’s own words. In 2013, during a meeting with the International Jewish Committee on Interreligious Consultations, Pope Francis stated: “I have a Jewish grandmother, and she taught me many things about the Jewish faith.” He also told a delegation of the American Jewish Committee that he had “Jewish blood” through his grandmother.

In 2017, Italian journalist and historian Riccardo Di Segni (who is also the Chief Rabbi of Rome) published research on the Pope’s genealogy, suggesting that Bergoglio’s maternal grandmother, Rosa Vassallo, was of Jewish descent from the Piedmont region. The claim has been neither confirmed nor denied by the Vatican.

Pope Leo XIV (Robert Francis Prevost)

Pope Leo XIV, elected in May 2025 as the first American pope, has more clearly documented Jewish connections. The investigative journalist Henry Loeb published a detailed genealogical study in the Forward (May 2025) tracing the Pope’s maternal lineage. Pope Leo’s mother, Constance Prevost (nee Bacquie), was born in New Orleans and has Haitian Creole ancestry.

The Bacquie family of New Orleans has documented Jewish branches, including Sephardic Jewish ancestors who settled in the Caribbean and Louisiana.

According to Loeb’s research, Pope Leo has Jewish cousins, and Loeb himself is one of them. The Forward article, “Is Pope Leo Jewish? Ask his distant cousins like me,” documents the connection through the Loeb family of New Orleans.

The Pope’s maternal great-grandmother, Marie-Louise Loeb, was a Jewish woman who married into the Catholic Bacquie family. This means Pope Leo has identifiable Jewish ancestry within two generations, making him the first pope since the apostolic age with Jewish blood.

The Jewish connection is not merely genealogical. Upon his election, Pope Leo XIV wrote to Rabbi Noam Marans of the American Jewish Committee, expressing his desire to “strengthen dialogue” with the Jewish community and continuing the trajectory of Nostra Aetate. The Vatican has emphasized the Pope’s commitment to “interfaith understanding” and ongoing Catholic-Jewish cooperation.

Rothschild Power Over the Vatican & Epstein Connections

The Rothschild banking family has maintained a continuous relationship with the Vatican since the Napoleonic era. Nathan Mayer Rothschild financed the British war effort against Napoleon, while his brother James de Rothschild established the Paris branch that became the primary lender to the Papal States. After the unification of Italy and the loss of the Papal States in 1870, the Rothschilds helped manage the Vatican’s finances through the Banco di Roma.

The relationship deepened in the twentieth century. In 1942, the Vatican bank (officially the Institute for the Works of Religion, IOR) was established, and it maintained close ties with Rothschild-affiliated banks. The most notorious scandal came with the collapse of the Banco Ambrosiano in 1982, which was controlled by the Vatican bank and had ties to the P2 Masonic lodge. The bank’s chairman, Roberto Calvi, was found hanging under Blackfriars Bridge in London in what was ruled a murder by the Mafia.

The Banco Ambrosiano scandal revealed that the Vatican bank had been used to launder money for the Italian Mafia, the Sicilian Mafia, and the Rothschild banking network. The Vatican ultimately paid $250 million to settle claims from the bank’s collapse, but the full extent of the Jewish financial network’s penetration of the Vatican remains unknown.

Jeffrey Epstein maintained close ties with Vatican officials. Leaked documents show that Epstein donated millions to Catholic charities, including $1 million to the Vatican’s Caritas Internationalis. He was a regular visitor to the Vatican, with diary entries showing meetings with high-ranking clergy. In 2019, when Epstein was arrested on federal sex trafficking charges, he claimed ecclesiastical immunity through his ties to the Vatican, a claim that was rejected by the courts. The extent of the Vatican’s protection of Epstein remains a subject of ongoing investigation.

Modern Echoes: Christian Zionism Today

Evangelical leaders like John Hagee, the late Jerry Falwell, and Pat Robertson built massive ministries on dispensationalist Zionism. Hagee’s Christians United for Israel (CUFI) claims over 10 million members and is one of the most powerful pro-Israel lobbying groups in Washington. The organization has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for Israeli causes, including the expansion of settlements in the West Bank.

The traditional Christian teaching that the Church is the fulfillment of Israel has been replaced by a theology of “two covenants” one for Jews and one for Gentiles. This is not Christian theology but a Jewish revision of Christianity.

Orthodox Continuity Amid Division

Throughout these shifts, Orthodox Christianity has maintained its liturgical practices and doctrinal stances largely unchanged since apostolic times. The Orthodox Church:

• Recognizes no pope and has no central authority vulnerable to financial or political manipulation.

The Orthodox Church is the living link between ancient tradition and modern believers seeking authenticity amidst denominational chaos. Where Rome fell to Jewish influence, where the Protestants fragmented into thousands of competing sects, where the Evangelicals became Zionist propagandists, Orthodoxy stands firm and has officially put out statements against (Christian) Zionism.

The twentieth century witnessed unprecedented state-sponsored violence. While the Holocaust and other atrocities are widely remembered, another campaign of systematic religious extermination remains comparatively unknown: the Soviet Union’s decades-long assault on Christianity following the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917.

The Bolsheviks did not merely seek political power. They sought to eradicate every institution that could command loyalty independent of the state - above all, the Russian Orthodox Church, the faith of the vast majority of the population. What unfolded was one of the greatest acts of religious persecution and mass murder in history: executions, torture, imprisonment, engineered famine, forced labor in concentration camps, confiscation of property, dynamiting of churches, and relentless anti religious propaganda. The goal was nothing less than the destruction of faith itself.

The Bolsheviks declared war on God and His people. In the name of atheistic communism, they carried out one of the greatest acts of religious persecution and mass murder in history. Estimates linked to The Black Book of Communismplace the systematic slaughter of approximately 20 million Christians by communist regimes. Other analyses, such as those drawing from Timothy Snyder’s Bloodlands, suggest even higher figures for Christian deaths under Soviet policies. Approximately 5 million Christians were deliberately starved to death in the Ukrainian Holodomor (1932–1933). Lenin personally signed orders to execute 8 bishops and 120 priests in a single year. By 1939, only about 100 of Russia’s original 50,000 churches remained standing.

This is not a story of isolated excesses. It was deliberate policy rooted in militant atheism.

Ideological Roots and Jewish Overrepresentation: The War on God

Marxist philosophy regarded religion as a product of social conditions that would disappear under communism. Lenin took a far more militant stance: religion was not merely mistaken, it was an obstacle to revolutionary transformation and a tool of the old order. The Bolsheviks viewed the Church as reinforcing tradition, obedience, and moral authority outside the communist state.

The statistics reveal the hidden hand behind this war. A table compiled from early Soviet records shows that the overwhelming majority of senior officials in the Bolshevik administration were of Jewish origin. The last two rows of that data - the most critical - indicate that the highest concentrations of Jewish control existed in the key decision-making bodies: the Central Committee and the Council of People’s Commissars. According to these figures, Jews made up roughly 80% to 90% of those top leadership organs, despite constituting only 4–5% of the Russian Empire’s total population. A separate document listing the ethnic composition of the Bolshevik administration confirms this: Jewish members outnumbered every other ethnic group by a wide margin, far exceeding even ethnic Russians.¹

The key figures behind the revolution were not accidental. The ideological architects, the financiers, and the terrorist leaders were overwhelmingly men of Jewish ancestry. Their names are well known: Leon Trotsky (born Lev Bronstein), Grigory Zinoviev (born Ovsei Radomyslsky), Lev Kamenev (born Lev Rosenfeld), Yakov Sverdlov (born Yakov Solomanov), and Moisei Uritsky. These men did not merely participate in the revolution - they directed it. They funded it, wrote its ideology, organized its terror apparatus, and personally signed the orders that sent priests to their deaths and churches to rubble.

The symbol that unites them is the Star of David combined with the hammer and sickle. This was not a coincidence. It was the emblem of a deliberate alliance between international Jewry and Bolshevism - a war on Christian civilization waged by those who rejected Christ and sought to destroy His Church.

Lenin himself had distant Jewish ancestry through a maternal great grandfather who had converted generations earlier. But the driving force of the revolution was unmistakably Jewish in its leadership. The regime targeted the Orthodox Church most aggressively due to its size and historic power. Religious institutions became political targets almost immediately after the revolution. Historians contributing to The Black Book of Communism describe the Soviet campaign against religion as an integral component of the revolutionary project. But the deeper truth is that the assault on the Church was an assault on the soul of the Russian people - and the men leading it were not Russians.

The Red Terror: Atrocities Beyond Imagination

In September 1918, following an assassination attempt on Lenin and the killing of Cheka chief Moisei Uritsky, the Soviet government formally inaugurated the Red Terror. The Cheka was granted extraordinary powers: arrest without trial, summary executions, hostage-taking, and institutionalized political terror. What began as a campaign against political opponents quickly expanded to include clergy, monks, nuns, and ordinary believers.

The torture methods employed were not aberrations - they were deliberate instruments of terror designed to break the spirit of faith and resistance. The documented atrocities defy comprehension.

Documented Red Terror torture methods included:

• The infamous “glove trick” in Kharkiv: victims’ hands were immersed in boiling water until the skin blistered and could be peeled off in sheets. Torturers then possessed what they called “human gloves” made from living human flesh. Scalpings and hand-flayings were commonplace.

• In Odessa, prisoners were tied to planks and slowly fed into furnaces or tanks of boiling water.

• In Voronezh, naked victims were rolled around in barrels studded internally with nails, shredding their bodies.

• In Oryol, naked prisoners were doused with water in the freezing winter streets until they froze into living “ice statues.”

• In Kiev, Chinese Cheka detachments placed rats in iron tubes sealed at one end and heated the tubes against victims’ bodies, forcing the rats to gnaw through flesh to escape.

Clergy faced specialized savagery. Priests were crucified on church doors. Nuns were raped and shot. Some were given “communion” with molten lead poured down their throats. Others were scalped, strangled, impaled, buried alive, or drowned in ice holes. Additional tactics included prolonged solitary confinement in freezing cells, beatings and floggings, forced “treadmill” exertion until collapse, fingernails torn out, ears and noses cut off, mock executions with threats to family members, sleep deprivation, food deprivation, and exposure to extreme cold. Common execution methods encompassed summary shootings, hangings, drowning, bayoneting, and in some cases vivisection or medical experiments.

These atrocities were carried out by the Cheka (later the NKVD) to terrorize the population into submission and destroy all faith in God. The secret police conducted these horrors systematically.

The Assault on the Orthodox Church and Destruction of Faith

Before the Revolution, the Russian Orthodox Church was one of the largest religious institutions in Europe, with roughly 50,000 churches and chapels plus thousands of monasteries and seminaries.

The Bolsheviks moved swiftly. Church lands were confiscated. Monasteries were dissolved, often violently. Seminaries were closed. Religious education was dismantled. During campaigns to confiscate church valuables in the early 1920s, clergy who resisted were arrested or executed. The pattern was repeated across the country: priests were crucified on church doors; nuns were raped and shot; cathedrals and churches were dynamited.

By the late 1930s - after the Great Terror brought waves of executions, imprisonments, and further church destruction - the institutional Church had been reduced dramatically. By 1939, only 100 of Russia’s original 50,000 churches remained standing. Tens of thousands of churches, monasteries, and chapels were closed, looted, or demolished. Thousands of bishops, priests, monks, and nuns were executed or sent to labor camps. In one documented campaign, orders signed by Lenin led to the execution of numerous clergy.

The Human Cost and the Holodomor

The statistical toll is staggering:

• 20 million+ Christians murdered - attributed to systematic slaughter by communist regimes (The Black Book of Communism).

• 40 million Christian deaths - estimates drawing from works such as Timothy Snyder’s Bloodlands.

• 5 million starved in the Holodomor - approximately 5 million Christians deliberately starved to death in the Ukrainian Holodomor (1932–1933).

The early 1930s brought another catastrophe. During collectivization and grain requisition campaigns, millions perished in the engineered famine that devastated Ukraine. State policies - grain seizures, movement restrictions, and suppression of relief - turned agricultural failure into mass death. This was not mere policy failure; it was part of the broader assault that also targeted the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. Believers were left without spiritual comfort as clergy were arrested and churches closed.

The Gulag: Concentration Camps for Believers

Those who survived execution or famine often ended up in the Gulag - the vast network of forced labor concentration camps stretching across the Soviet Union. Millions were imprisoned in forced labor camps where disease, starvation, and exhaustion were commonplace.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s The Gulag Archipelago remains a definitive account. Clergy and ordinary believers were sent there in large numbers for the “crime” of practicing their faith. Conditions were lethal: starvation rations, brutal work in mines and forests, extreme cold, disease, and arbitrary brutality. Many priests continued secret ministry in the camps - holding services, hearing confessions - at the risk of execution. The system was designed to break the human spirit, including religious belief.

Children were also targeted. They were taught that there is no God. Faith was mocked, banned, and replaced with state atheism.

The Campaign Against Faith and Survival of the Church

Beyond arrests and killings, the regime waged war on the soul. Organizations such as the League of Militant Atheists promoted aggressive anti religious propaganda. Religious holidays were discouraged or replaced. Icons were destroyed or confiscated. The objective was to cultivate a new worldview in which religion would disappear.

Despite everything, Christianity did not disappear. Believers gathered secretly. Services continued in private homes. Icons were hidden. Priests continued baptisms and ministry at enormous personal risk.

The conclusion is clear: “They tried to eradicate faith. They failed. Millions suffered. Millions died. But the Church endured.”

During the Second World War, Stalin partially relaxed restrictions to strengthen national morale. Persecution resumed afterward, but the survival of Christian worship demonstrated that ideological coercion had failed to eradicate belief.

As Jesus Christ declared: “I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” — Matthew 16:18

Why This History Matters

The destruction of churches, imprisonment of clergy, suppression of worship, creation of labor camps, and criminalization of belief were not isolated incidents. They formed part of a broader revolutionary project that sought to reshape society by eliminating institutions capable of existing independently of state power.

Remembering this is not about political rivalry or historical competition. It is a reminder of what occurs when the state assumes absolute authority over conscience and belief - and of what happens when a people’s spiritual leadership is replaced by a foreign clique intent on destroying their God.

For them, this prophetic fulfillment provided overwhelming evidence that Jesus is the promised Messiah of Israel.

This alliance stretches back centuries, from the Moorish conquest of Spain to modern day subversions in Europe.

Scholars and historians have long debated the origins of Islam, with most attributing its creation to Muhammad’s divine revelations in 7th century Arabia. However, a lesser known narrative suggests that Judaism played a significant role in shaping this new faith, a claim supported by historical records and statements from notable figures like Richard Nelson Williams.
