Make System.gc collect under the java-web command - #9
The second v0.1.0 release run failed on one OpenJDK test: java/util/HashMap/HashMapCloneLeak.java went past the 2048 MB memory limit.
The test allocates and calls System.gc() until a WeakReference clears. Runtime.gc calls globalThis.gc, which node defines only under --expose-gc. The java-web command, and the jtreg runner that drives it, start node without that flag, so System.gc() did nothing and the reference cleared only when V8 chose to run a full collection. That took 5 rounds on a small board and over 200 on the runner.
The Node entry now turns on --expose-gc at startup when it is off and takes gc from a new context, so System.gc() collects under the command as it does under pnpm test. With it, the test clears after one round.
A new test runs Refs through node src/node.ts without the flag and compares it with HotSpot; it fails without this change.
Verified: the new test, Refs, pnpm typecheck, and the full passing OpenJDK list on x64 (see below).

`Refs` is compiled and run for this test even when `ONLY` excludes it, then
assert that the HotSpot reference process exits with status zero before
comparing stdout and exit codes.

Remove inherited GC exposure from the child.
If NODE_OPTIONS contains --expose-gc, the child inherits it. The test can then pass without exercising exposeGc. Remove that option from the child environment. (nodejs.org)

Bug Fixes
Improved compatibility for Java programs that call System.gc() when launched through the Node.js runtime. Garbage collection is now available without requiring users to start Node.js with an additional flag.
Existing garbage-collection behavior is preserved when Node.js already provides a gc function.
The Node entry point now ensures globalThis.gc is available before JVM construction. A regression test compares the Refs output and exit status from HotSpot and the direct Node command.
Changes: Node GC exposure
Layer / File(s)
Summary
GC setup and regression test src/node.ts, test/programs.test.ts
nodeVm calls exposeGc before constructing the JVM. The helper leaves an existing globalThis.gc unchanged; otherwise, it enables --expose-gc and assigns gc from a new VM context. The test compares Refs output and exit status between HotSpot and the direct Node command.
The change makes System.gc work when running under java-web without --expose-gc. It can still fail at startup for hosts that freeze V8 flags or rename the GC extension, and the new regression test can pass without running Refs in some filtered runs. These are narrow configuration cases with workarounds, so the risk is low. Handle them before or soon after merge.

The PR enables --expose-gc at runtime in the java-web Node entry so that System.gc() works under the command. It adds an exposeGc() function that sets the V8 flag via setFlagsFromString and retrieves the gc function from a new context, then calls it once per JVM startup. A new test verifies the command's System.gc behavior matches HotSpot.

The PR enables --expose-gc at runtime in the java-web Node entry so that System.gc() triggers a V8 collection. A new exposeGc() function checks whether globalThis.gc is already present, guards against --freeze-flags-after-init, calls v8.setFlagsFromString("--expose-gc"), then retrieves the gc function via vm.runInNewContext and assigns it to globalThis. A test compares the Refs program output between HotSpot and the command to verify the fix.
