cargo clippy -- -Dwarnings fails on main with the current stable clippy. Open PRs hit it in clippy (windows-latest) and Check the WASM package and demo (for example #9706).

  • crates/stdlib/src/elementtree.rs: uses Self instead of PyElement and inlines the format! arguments (use_self, uninlined_format_args).
  • crates/host_env/src/socket.rs:
    • allows unnecessary_cast on header.cmsg_len as usize. cmsg_len is usize on Linux glibc but u32 on macOS and musl, so the cast stays.
    • splits #[cfg(all(test, unix, ...))] into #[cfg(test)] plus a platform cfg so tests_outside_test_module recognizes the test module.
    • uses is_multiple_of and an inclusive range in those tests.
  • crates/vm/src/stdlib/posix.rs: allows needless_collect on the environ snapshot. The comment above it says the snapshot is intentional.

Testing:

  • The CI clippy command (--features capi, encodings, jit, sqlite, threading --workspace --all-targets ... -- -Dwarnings) passes on macOS.
  • cargo clippy -p rustpython-host_env --lib --target x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu -- -Dwarnings passes.
  • cargo test -p rustpython-host_env ancillary passes.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Element sequence and slice assignments now consistently recognize values matching the receiver’s concrete element type. Invalid assignments continue to be rejected, and slice assignments retain their length validation before reporting invalid items.
    • Improved consistency in how invalid element assignments and slice-size mismatches are handled, helping provide more predictable behavior when updating elements individually or in slices.

- elementtree: use Self and inline format arguments.
- host_env socket: allow the cmsg_len cast, which is not a same-type
cast on every platform; mark the ancillary tests module as cfg(test)
so clippy recognizes it; use is_multiple_of and an inclusive range.
- posix: allow needless_collect on the intentional environ snapshot.

Explain Change →

Walkthrough

The PR updates ancillary-message parser lint and tests, changes ElementTree child assignment checks to use the receiver’s concrete type, and adds a Clippy allowance for the POSIX environment snapshot. The POSIX change does not alter runtime behavior.

Changes: Ancillary-message parser

Layer / File(s) Summary
Parser lint and test updates
crates/host_env/src/socket.rs
The parser allows a platform-dependent cast. Its tests adjust cfg attributes, use is_multiple_of for alignment, and extend the control slice by one byte.

ElementTree assignment

Layer / File(s) Summary
Child assignment validation
crates/stdlib/src/elementtree.rs
Integer and slice assignment check items against the receiver’s Self type. Slice size validation still precedes invalid-item reporting.

POSIX environment snapshot

Layer / File(s) Summary
Snapshot lint allowance
crates/vm/src/stdlib/posix.rs
The intentional fast-dictionary snapshot allows the clippy::needless_collect lint. Runtime behavior is unchanged.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "Fix clippy warnings on main" names the primary change. The PR fixes Clippy warnings that make cargo clippy -- -Dwarnings fail on main. The changes touch three files: elementtree.rs (use of Self and inline format! arguments), host_env/socket.rs (cmsg_len cast allowance, split test cfg attributes, is_multiple_of in tests), and vm/stdlib/posix.rs (needless_collect allowance). The title is specific enough for a teammate scanning history to understand the main change. It does not name the individual files or lints, which is acceptable because the title need not cover every detail.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 4 functions across 3 files.

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.
