Keep a green pull request green on master and at release - #14
A pull request could pass CI and master or the release run could still fail: the selection skipped tests outside the areas a file was mapped to, and slow tests could hit the timeout on a busy runner.
select.ts no longer guesses areas from file names. Natives are shared across the class library, so any change to code the OpenJDK tests load runs all of them: every .ts file reachable through imports from src/node.ts (the VM each test runs), the runner and select.ts, and every non-TypeScript file except docs, Markdown, types and the other tests. Only page-side code (src/browser/api.ts, worker.ts, idb.ts, protocol.ts) and the web build and dev server fall outside. Lines added to passing.txt run just those tests.
run.ts --only-passing prints the 15 slowest tests at the end of each run and writes every test's time to build/jtreg/times.tsv, so tests creeping toward the timeout show up in CI logs.
A jtreg / result job always runs and passes when every shard passed or none was needed: one check that branch protection can require, whatever the number of shards.
The OpenJDK tests run on pull requests only. With branch protection requiring pull requests to be up to date with master and these checks to pass, the merged tree is the one CI tested, so the push to master does not run them again. Releases still run the full suite before publishing.
AGENTS.md: a test that fails without a code change is fixed or taken out of passing.txt.
Taken out of passing.txt, from this pull request's first full run: java/security/SecureRandom/NoSync.java took 521 s of the 600 s timeout, and java/security/KeyPairGenerator/Failover.java generates RSA keys, whose time varies from run to run (214 s). Every other test took under 240 s. Speed up crypto and BigInteger so NoSync and KeyPairGenerator/Failover can return to CI #15 tracks the crypto and BigInteger speed that would bring them back.
After this merges, branch protection on master requires test and jtreg / result and up-to-date branches.
This pull request changes the runner, so its CI runs the full suite.

Summary
Summary by CodeRabbit
Improvements
Pull requests now run the relevant OpenJDK tests, while releases run the full listed test suite.
Changes to files not loaded by OpenJDK tests trigger the full test suite.
Test runs now report the 15 slowest tests and save timing results.
A consolidated test check is available for branch protection.
Documentation
Clarified which tests run for pull requests and releases, and how consistently failing tests are handled.
The pull-request jtreg workflow now has a result check. Test selection runs all tests for changes outside specified untested patterns. Passing-test runs also report test runtimes, and the passing-test list has two entries removed.

Summary
Test selection and passing-test list scripts/jtreg/select.ts, test/jtreg/passing.txt, AGENTS.md
The selector now runs all tests when a changed file does not match an untested pattern. The passing-test list and repository instructions were updated.
Issue 42 (Project516/java-web): It calls for pull-request testing and release test workflows; this change updates pull-request jtreg testing and documents the test behavior for releases.

Explanation
The description is specific and related to the changeset. It explains the selection change in select.ts (running all tests when code loaded by OpenJDK tests changes, and excluding docs, browser-only code and other tests), the duration reporting in run.ts (15 slowest tests and times.tsv), the new jtreg / result job, moving OpenJDK tests to pull requests only, the AGENTS.md rule, and the removal of two tests from passing.txt with timing evidence. It also covers the branch protection change. It matches the raw summary and the objectives.

This PR simplifies test selection to run all OpenJDK tests for any non-documentation/browser change (since natives are shared), adds per-test timing output to catch slow tests, introduces a consolidated 'jtreg / result' check for branch protection, and restricts jtreg runs to pull requests only (releases still run the full suite). The changes are coherent and address the stated flakiness and timeout issues.

This PR changes the OpenJDK test selection to run all tests for any source change (instead of guessing affected areas), adds per-shard slowest-test reporting and timing output, introduces a single jtreg / result check for branch protection, and restricts jtreg runs to pull requests only. The logic is sound and the workflow changes correctly implement the described strategy.

This PR changes the OpenJDK test selection to run all passing tests for any change to code the tests load (natives, fs, sockets, net, tls), while docs, browser code, types, and non-jtreg tests still run none. It adds a consolidating jtreg / result check for branch protection, moves jtreg runs to pull requests only (master pushes skip them), and emits per-shard slowest-test logs and a times.tsv artifact. Two flaky tests were removed from passing.txt.

This PR changes test selection to run all OpenJDK tests when any file loaded by the test VM changes, adds timing output to catch slow tests, and adds a consolidated result check for branch protection. The import detection in select.ts only matches double-quoted relative imports with .ts extension, which may miss other import styles used in the codebase. The times.tsv write assumes the output directory exists. The test.yml change removes the full input to the jtreg workflow; release.yml (not shown) may depend on it for full-suite runs.

The PR changes test selection to trace imports from entry points instead of using file-pattern areas, adds per-test timing output, introduces a consolidated 'result' check for branch protection, and removes two flaky tests from passing.txt. A defect in select.ts: the notLoaded regex excludes docs, types, and non-jtreg tests for non-TypeScript files, but omits the page-side directories (src/browser/, src/bridge.ts, src/library.ts, src/image.ts, src/http-proxy.ts, scripts/build-web.ts, scripts/serve.ts) that the old areas list and the PR description explicitly say should fall outside. Non-TypeScript files in those directories will incorrectly trigger 'run all tests'.
